00:00You know, eligibility is the other big thing that I think the coaches are trying to figure out right now.
00:05And, you know, they're trying to understand this.
00:07That's why, you know, the five for five has come out.
00:09And that's a big deal to eliminate some of that ambiguity.
00:15Gambling is another big topic as we've watched some of these guys get popped at different schools and in different
00:20sports and really in different levels.
00:22When you start talking about guys in the NFL and looking at the stuff that's happening in the NBA with,
00:27you know, Damon Jones and, you know, Chauncey Billups and the things that are going on there.
00:32Then you get to the Brent Soresby situation, Texas Tech in Lubbock and how Cincinnati apparently knew it was, you
00:38know, that he was being investigated.
00:39He was the Texas Tech there.
00:41They're claiming they didn't know.
00:42Maybe they did.
00:43Maybe they didn't.
00:44I'm not sure.
00:45But Cincinnati knew they said in October it's being reported.
00:50Brent Soresby is, if he's ineligible, he could potentially petition for a supplemental draft opportunity.
00:56Do you think it's possible that he would find a judge in West Texas that would be able to grant
01:01an injunction for him that would allow him to play in college football this year, despite what he's being accused
01:08of?
01:09The cynical side of me says yes.
01:11I mean, obviously, you know what I mean?
01:13Like, that just reeks like an episode of Law and Order, where, you know, the judge grants the injunction, he
01:21gets to play, and in the face of.
01:24But then you risk forfeiting those games later, future NCAA penalties if he's deemed ineligible, if all of these things
01:33are deemed true.
01:34And the NFL supplemental draft window is becoming more intriguing because you're starting to see some stories pop up about
01:42that.
01:42So, you know, would he face potential punishment in the NFL?
01:46I still think the answer is yes.
01:49You know, and obviously, do you skip next year where, you know, the draft next year is loaded with quarterbacks
01:57from Arch and CJ, potentially CJ Carr, Julian Satton, Darian Mensah, Dante Moore?
02:03Do you just go now?
02:04And the supplemental draft, I mean, it always has a couple interesting players.
02:08It has in the past.
02:09I mean, from Terrell Pryor to, I think Bernie Kosar was a supplemental draft pick.
02:14I was like, good, I got that one right.
02:16I think Chris Carter.
02:18Chris Carter was too, yeah.
02:20Supplemental draft pick as well.
02:22So, I mean, it's possible.
02:25And, you know, you get a player in before training camp, and Brendan Sorsby is obviously a talented player.
02:30And you move away from the NCAA side of this.
02:33But, you know, a judge in Texas could alter this.
02:37And, again, you know, for those of us who've watched Landman and all the Taylor Sheridan stuff, yeah, it sounds
02:44like a plot from that in some ways.
02:46Yeah, Josh Gordon also a supplemental draft pick.
02:49Like, it's just, what's interesting to me is, you know, a lot of the stuff was always dealt with amateurism
02:54for the supplemental draft guys who got in trouble in the offseason for taking money or accepting this or that.
03:02Bill, gambling is kind of a universal thing.
03:04Like, regardless of what level you're at, you know not to bet, especially on your own team.
03:11And that's, like you said, the cynical side of you, is there a judge that's a big Texas Tech booster?
03:18Is there one that Cody Campbell maybe supports his election campaigns?
03:25I don't know.
03:26It's just, it would be wild to think that there could be a guy with this much evidence.
03:31This isn't like a bookie testing filing against you now, Bill.
03:34It's, they've got all this stuff documented.
03:36It's all electronic.
03:37Like, there's no way out to say it wasn't me with it.
03:40So, I'm really curious to see the argument that Jeffrey Kessler is going to make and how this is going
03:47to irrevocably harm Brent Soresby, which it will.
03:54But a lot of that harm to me was done at his own doing.
03:58And the fact that, you know, sometimes you've got to, Bill, we've done so much with these guys.
04:04We keep calling them kids, but they're making a lot of money now.
04:07Like, at some point, you've got to grow up and you've got to own the consequences of your actions a
04:14little bit.
04:14Yeah, especially when you're making that kind of money.
04:17And I know there's a lot to be said about that.
04:19But, you know, again, it's about protecting the integrity of the game.
04:22If your best play and college football's best play is to make the college football playoff compelling, and we went
04:29through that discussion in the last segment, then you have to make sure that the results are protected.
04:33And, again, I know we're dealing with 18- to 22-year-old student-athletes.
04:37I know they are exposed to more gambling in their lives than have any generation has ever been exposed to.
04:45But at the same time, you have to have the responsibility to know that when you put on that uniform
04:49or play in the NCAA, the rules are the rules, especially when it comes to gambling, which can be a
04:55very serious issue.
04:56And, you know, with Brendan Swarsby, I still think the NCAA has to take a stand here, as unfortunate as
05:03it is to him, that he will not play college football again.
05:06And if he goes to the NFL supplemental draft, that's a different discussion.
05:11But it sure would be interesting and, like you said, create a lot of content for us.
