00:00a double murder would be deeply traumatizing for anyone to witness but
00:06imagine you're a toddler and both victims are your parents unfortunately
00:11it was the reality lived by a three-year-old girl last week Friday when
00:16a gunman walked up to Devon to say shooting him and then chasing his
00:21girlfriend Amelia Hernandez and killing her to a hands-length away from the
00:26child at the Jade Court Play Park in Coover near to where Toussaint lived at
00:31least eight other children who played daily in the park witnessed the
00:35horrific scene according to residents and one week later they say most parents
00:41refused to let the children out of their homes some of the parents are telling
00:45the children still stay inside they don't want them outside have me
00:49uncomfortable as well being an adult I was not wrong my grandkids was outside at
00:55the time and they was devastated so that as well we are trying to deal with it
01:01but they are coming along slowly the DTP has provided a counseling session last
01:08Sunday and residents say it has helped a little in general every noise makes
01:13residents jumpy and every strange vehicle they say has them uneasy residents say
01:20drastic measures are needed to deal with today's criminals who are not even
01:24deterred from committing murders in the presence of a park full of young
01:28children while earlier intervention they say with troubled children is also
01:33desperately needed we can't just wait for the government to do stuff we as a
01:37community need to come together and you know try and make sure that we you
01:41notice how it takes a village to raise a child if all of us come together and
01:45make sure that the young ones don't go astray maybe in a few years things might
01:49get better but I don't see anything happening no neighboring local government
01:53counselor Ramjan Maraj says the ttps investigations have been intense and
01:58are ongoing and expressed confidence that those responsible will be held he too
02:04worried over the impact acts like these have on the nation's youth people should
02:09really be mindful because you know is what happens in the community to run
02:15pattern and pattern very quickly you know and this is something disturbing that it
02:21should it would have taken place in a park a people the children would have been
02:25around let us set better examples let us live better lives let us grow and develop good
02:32families so that we will all benefit as we live together in peace and harmony
02:37meanwhile president of the couver police station community council says he was
02:42approached by calypsonian brian london to host a concert for the community on
02:47sunday this year's calypso monarch terry lyons he says has also come on board mr london and other artists
02:57who would be supporting that project which would which would be a somewhat of a peace concert and candlelight
03:06which would be a great vigil you know not only for the deceased but also to bring
03:11awareness and show unity in the community Cindy Raguba Tika Singh TV6 news
