00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:15There's damage to the back of the vehicle.
00:17What do y'all think, that car hit him or something?
00:19A brutal chain reaction is set off.
00:22Most times in front of the truck,
00:24and I just seen that dude get out.
00:26I seen him hold the gun up.
00:28When the worlds of two strangers collide.
00:31Wow.
00:33They just unload into the car.
00:35And he drives away.
00:38But first...
00:39Blood trail goes all the way down to where those tail lights are.
00:42Tulsa detectives search for answers in a community...
00:45Who are all these people?
00:47Hospital witnesses.
00:49Where one person's words...
00:50He asked me if I saw who had the song.
00:52He was having a tough day.
00:54...have deadly consequences.
00:55He's a dead dead guy.
00:57And turn around, he won't go.
01:08For homicide detectives,
01:10their chance of solving a murder is cut in half,
01:13if they don't get a lead within the first 48 hours.
01:31Downtown Tulsa.
01:33A group of friends walking under a freeway overpass,
01:37see a man lying off the sidewalk,
01:40covered in blood,
01:42and call 9-1-1.
01:48Paramedics arrive,
01:50and find the man...
01:52dead.
02:07Jason, how are you, sir?
02:09I'm all right.
02:09What do we have?
02:11We don't have an ID on the victim yet.
02:13We've been in the late 60s.
02:16These young ladies over here,
02:18these juveniles,
02:19were the ones that walked up the fountain
02:20that they didn't see anything.
02:22Looks like there's gonna be a stabbing on the other side.
02:25Yeah.
02:26The victim has a single stab wound to his right forearm.
02:29He probably just slowed blood out.
02:31Blood trail goes all the way down
02:34where those tail lights are in the police car,
02:37and then jots up up under the underpass right there.
02:42It looked like the knife hit an arm.
02:44Did they find any bloody knives?
02:46No, they didn't.
02:50We've got a blood trail,
02:52and those are all 90-degree blood droplets,
02:55so likely they're probably gonna be one person,
02:58because they're basically in that line.
03:01The blood trail leads to a homeless encampment.
03:04a thousand feet away.
03:06Sometimes you can have dozens of people
03:08that are down here in this area.
03:10They're very transient.
03:11They may be in this city today.
03:13They may be in another city next month.
03:16We've had a couple of other homicides over here.
03:19John Brown had a murder up here probably,
03:23I don't know, about a year ago.
03:26You know what?
03:33Where did you find?
03:35Name for your victim?
03:37Oh, you got that?
03:38The Crime Scene Unit
03:39found the victim's ID in a bag on the trail.
03:42is Eddie Gilcrease.
03:46Eddie stays in
03:48the second bunk end
03:50right there.
03:52And that comes from
03:53here.
03:5763-year-old
03:59Eddie Gilcrease had been living
04:01in the encampment for a few months.
04:07Who are all these
04:09people?
04:10Hospital witnesses.
04:12Okay.
04:13Patrol has gathered the residents
04:14of the camp that were on the scene.
04:17You guys doing all right,
04:18all things considered?
04:19Yes, sir.
04:22I need to get these people
04:23downtown.
04:24Okay.
04:25I need patrol first.
04:26Good.
04:27All right, ladies and gentlemen,
04:28I'm a super nice police officer,
04:30and I'm going to talk to each one
04:31of you downtown.
04:32I'll give you something nice to drink.
04:34I'll get you out of there
04:35as quick as possible.
04:38All that gentleman right there
04:40in the khaki pants.
04:40Much appreciated.
04:47Seems like these individuals,
04:49they're at least willing to cooperate.
04:51Everybody that works in our unit
04:52has been working the streets
04:54for a long, long time.
04:55Our heart breaks for these individuals
04:57that are out here
04:57because they get victimized
04:59just like anybody else.
05:00Actually, more so than anybody else.
05:03There are a lot of crimes
05:04where they don't even call us
05:06because they don't feel like
05:07there's any point to it.
05:16Just have a seat right there for me.
05:18Did you need a drink?
05:20Water?
05:21Okay, I'll get you water.
05:22Just sit tight.
05:28I have a method to this.
05:30You got to get them comfortable,
05:32and then we'll start talking.
05:35You got to build that rapport
05:36with them a little bit
05:37before they just jump to the truth.
05:40And we've dealt with them down there before,
05:42and they realize that we're pretty nice,
05:44and, you know,
05:44we're not out to give them a hard time.
05:51All right, bud.
05:52Yes, sir.
05:56My name's Jason White.
06:02There's good people that live here,
06:04but there are some people
06:05that act like knuckleheads.
06:08So anyway, start off with tonight
06:09and tell me what happened.
06:28He says this afternoon
06:29he saw a man known in the camp
06:31as Sleepy chasing the victim.
06:34Okay, so he's, like,
06:35chasing after the black guy?
06:36Yeah.
06:37Okay.
06:49What did he do when he got there to him?
06:56Did the black guy do anything to provoke this?
07:05You just said
07:06when he stabbed that dude,
07:09did it look like he'd stabbed the guy?
07:12Uh,
07:13I'm sorry.
07:14It could be good.
07:15It's not a thing you're wrong.
07:16It's not just figured out
07:17from the blood
07:17and from what I saw.
07:20He stabbed that guy
07:21and turned around and walked off.
07:23That's what the is.
07:25Did you see him with a knife?
07:28No one, no one did know it.
07:32Within the next 10, 20 minutes,
07:36I'm going to say,
07:37it's just a rough estimate.
07:39He walks back over there.
07:40That's when I asked him
07:41if everything's all right.
07:42Mm-hmm.
07:45He said,
07:46I stabbed that dude.
07:47I'm not doing it.
07:59700 miles away
08:00in Mobile, Alabama.
08:04Mobile Fire Rescue,
08:05what's the location of the emergency?
08:07Jersey Road,
08:08right here,
08:09somebody shot in the truck.
08:11Do you see any people in the truck?
08:12I don't know.
08:13They got the candle one
08:15and they can't see up outside here.
08:17He's a gunshot,
08:18coals in the truck
08:18and the truck not moving.
08:20But it's just one person
08:21in there on the street.
08:22I don't know.
08:23I don't want to go to the truck.
08:25I got you.
08:26All right, help us on the way.
08:29First responders arrive
08:31in an apartment complex
08:32and find a man
08:33in the driver's seat
08:34of the truck.
08:35Shot multiple times.
08:37He's rushed to a nearby hospital.
08:39But doctors
08:41can't save him.
09:01All right.
09:02What you got?
09:04That's the victim.
09:06Martin Hands.
09:0863-year-old Martin Hands
09:10was born in Shirebrook, England.
09:13would move to the U.S.
09:14at an early age.
09:15He served three years
09:17in the U.S. Army
09:17before taking a job
09:18in aviation
09:20and rode motorcycles
09:21in his spare time.
09:23Martin leaves behind
09:24his wife of 26 years,
09:27three children,
09:28and five grandchildren.
09:33Man, we got here.
09:34That door was shut.
09:36Yeah, but the window was down.
09:37Yeah.
09:38It's huge thing at the door.
09:40Oh, is there?
09:41Oh, it's through the door.
09:42Strikes on the door.
09:46Martin was shot
09:48eight times
09:48in the arm,
09:50chest,
09:50and back.
09:52It's on the passenger side.
09:53The team finds
09:5513 7-6-2 rifle casings.
10:02The amount of times
10:04that he fired that weapon
10:06at the victim
10:07was more than excessive.
10:10There's no weapon
10:11or anything in the car?
10:12No.
10:13There's damage
10:14to the back of the vehicle.
10:18So, this guy...
10:21Responding officers
10:22located a witness
10:22to the shooting
10:23who was in the complex.
10:25Hopefully, I have
10:26some good information.
10:39I'm Detective Barton.
10:40So, what'd you see here?
10:42Oh, down here
10:43in these back apartments
10:44in my truck.
10:46Just facing out
10:47up towards the front.
10:48Like, I see the truck
10:49pulled in already.
10:50So, you saw the truck
10:51where it is right now?
10:52Yeah, Mustang
10:53in front of the truck.
10:54Red Mustang.
10:56I see them
10:56hold the gun.
10:57The driver of the Mustang
10:58approached the truck
11:00with the gun.
11:01That's the whole
11:02I started hearing him shoot.
11:07How many shots
11:08do you think you heard?
11:09Um,
11:10six to eight shots.
11:13Could you see
11:14what he was holding?
11:16Yeah, it was a long barrel.
11:18Guess a big AR.
11:20Describe white male,
11:22black male, black male.
11:22Black male, dreads,
11:23about 5'5".
11:25You can see his dreads
11:26clear as they...
11:27I heard of him saying
11:28he got me up.
11:30And I was dunking back
11:31in the car.
11:46All right, thanks, bro.
11:53There's damage to the back
11:54of the vehicle.
11:56Y'all think that
11:57that car hit him
11:58or something
11:58and probably left the scene
11:59if he was following him?
12:01That's what I feel.
12:02You're off of road roads
12:03or something.
12:04Maybe.
12:06What about the video?
12:07The office manager,
12:08she said ADT
12:09is supposed to be
12:10on their way here
12:10to try to come get
12:11past the passcode.
12:12The manager of the complex
12:14will download
12:15their surveillance video
12:16and send it to detectives.
12:19All right,
12:19I think we got
12:20a pretty good moment here.
12:23Then,
12:27eight miles away...
12:29Hello, Mobile, please.
12:31Yes, ma'am.
12:32Oh, I need the police.
12:33A woman calls 911
12:35concerned about a family member.
12:38I want to just follow him
12:40and threaten him
12:41and he shot him.
12:53In the Tulsa killing
12:55of 63-year-old
12:56Eddie Gilcrease,
12:57stabbed near an encampment
12:59beneath an overpass,
13:00Detective Jason White
13:01interviews a resident
13:02of the camp
13:03who says he knows
13:04the killer.
13:13He said
13:14that he stabbed
13:15that black dude.
13:19Was he upset about it?
13:24No, he...
13:26He was just calm, cool
13:29and collected about it.
13:31That's...
13:33Have you seen
13:35this individual
13:36with any kind of weapons?
13:37Sleepy?
13:39No.
13:40No?
13:41Well, describe him
13:42for me from head to toe.
13:44I want to say
13:45he's Mexican.
13:47What's his hairstyle like?
13:51Shaggy,
13:52black,
13:55top part up here.
13:57Probably not quite that long.
13:59And it just...
14:00It just kind of like
14:01a ball going back.
14:04How old would you
14:05estimate his age?
14:06I think probably
14:07around 32.
14:10Sit tight.
14:11Okay.
14:21I just found this.
14:23Corporal Nathan Schilling
14:24finds someone
14:25with the nickname Sleepy
14:27matching the description
14:28of the suspect.
14:29Oh, good.
14:30Let me rent some finance.
14:40It's first getting my deed
14:42is the guy that did it
14:43if he did it.
14:49Would you recognize him
14:50if I showed you a picture?
14:52Yes, I would.
14:56That's him.
14:58That is him.
15:00Perfect.
15:02All right.
15:03Well, sit tight
15:04for a quick second.
15:05I think I'm pretty much
15:05done with you.
15:06Close, sir.
15:20Let's see here.
15:23This is going to be
15:24our suspect right here.
15:2635-year-old Jack Bossin
15:28has previous convictions
15:29for assault and battery
15:30upon a police officer,
15:33burglary in the first degree
15:34and grand marceny.
15:37As far as where he's from,
15:39I really don't know.
15:40He looks like he's probably
15:41new to our area.
15:44He's probably scared right now.
15:47Hiding.
15:50Patrol will search the area
15:51for Jack.
15:52I got to talk to her right quick.
15:54While detectives
15:55interview the other witnesses.
16:00Very kind to be
16:01as patient as you have been.
16:03How long have you
16:04been living down there?
16:07Years?
16:08No, no.
16:10I've only been homeless
16:11since last July.
16:12Okay.
16:14Tell me what you know
16:16about all this stuff
16:18that happened tonight.
16:28What was the commotion over?
16:29Do you know?
16:30He couldn't find his phone.
16:31That's all I know.
16:32And when you say he,
16:34are you meaning?
16:36Sleepy.
16:37Okay.
16:43That's Sleepy?
16:45Yeah.
16:46Okay.
16:48Do you know his real name?
16:49No, I don't.
16:51Did you hear
16:52anything that happened?
16:54I just saw it.
16:55I have to remember
16:55I didn't see anybody
16:56to stand.
16:58You said a knife came out?
17:01Yeah.
17:02And who was holding the knife?
17:05Uh,
17:07well,
17:07Sleepy.
17:10What was he doing
17:11with the knife out?
17:13He was having a tough day.
17:16Sometimes when people
17:17get paranoid,
17:20it's hard to be homeless.
17:22I know.
17:23There's no doubt it is.
17:25And it was over a phone.
17:27Yeah.
17:27So, I mean,
17:27he asked me
17:28if I saw who had the phone.
17:32Did you tell him
17:32you thought
17:33might have had it?
17:35Uh,
17:35the guy
17:36that he was
17:36tussling with.
17:54He was upset about a phone,
17:55and you thought that maybe
17:57that this guy
17:58had had it.
17:59Uh, well,
18:00I mean,
18:01I just kind of got the sense
18:02that he,
18:02I mean,
18:03did he.
18:04Do you know his name?
18:06I don't know.
18:07Okay.
18:15What did the phone look like?
18:18Small one?
18:19Yeah.
18:22Well,
18:24you seem like a nice lady.
18:27It's difficult
18:27being homeless.
18:28I know.
18:30So,
18:31hopefully you can get
18:32on your feet
18:32and you can get out
18:33of that situation.
18:48It's scary for them
18:49to live up underneath there,
18:50and we've had a homicide
18:51up there before,
18:51not long ago.
18:53They're worried
18:54because you never know
18:55who might be a predator
18:56to them.
18:57We've had a number
18:58of murders
18:58that have involved
18:59the homeless population,
19:00and I can tell you
19:02that people have been killed
19:03for very,
19:04very small things.
19:05For a lot
19:06of these individuals,
19:07when they live
19:07on the streets,
19:08their personal belongings,
19:10that's all they have.
19:11A phone
19:12or an item
19:14of property
19:14is priceless
19:16to them.
19:17You may be dealing
19:18also with individuals
19:19that suffer
19:19from some sort
19:20of a mental illness
19:21on top of it.
19:26Okay, sir.
19:28Detective John Brown
19:29interviews another witness
19:31from the encampment.
19:32What can you tell me
19:33about tonight?
19:35There was an argument
19:36that went on
19:36about his phone
19:38being stolen.
19:39The guy called him
19:41by making him sleep.
19:42He had been told
19:43that the black gentleman
19:45stole his phone.
19:46Yeah.
19:47My friend,
19:48the black gentleman,
19:49his name's Hayes.
19:51They were there
19:52and the argument
19:53started,
19:53and he says,
19:54hey,
19:55where's my phone?
19:56My friend,
19:57and he tells him,
19:58I don't have your...
20:01I don't know
20:01where your phone is,
20:03but the girl
20:05says that she saw
20:07my friend,
20:08Eddie,
20:10pick his phone
20:11up,
20:11or if she's laying
20:12by my cooler.
20:14I don't know
20:15Eddie that way, sir.
20:16They started arguing
20:17and I don't know
20:20about the weapons,
20:21but all I saw them do
20:22start like
20:24they were gonna fist fight
20:25because they both
20:26squared up.
20:27The next thing I know,
20:29they dispersed.
20:31And I see my friend run.
20:33Did neither one of them
20:34come back?
20:35No, sir.
20:36Disappeared.
20:37Okay.
20:38So you think they fought,
20:39but you didn't see anybody?
20:41You see them like
20:41they're buried.
20:42Yes.
20:45Have you heard
20:45what happened to Eddie?
20:46No, sir.
20:47Not at all.
20:47I'll just see them go.
20:50Man,
20:51Eddie's dead.
20:54No, sir.
20:56No.
20:57He died.
20:59No.
21:01No, sir.
21:02Sorry about the loss
21:03of your friend, man.
21:05He killed him, sir.
21:06And I'm not no snitch.
21:08That boy killed him.
21:09I believe you.
21:12Well, it's all, sir.
21:13I'll give you the phone I had.
21:17And my friend
21:18didn't steal it,
21:18man, did you?
21:22Hey, hang on
21:23for just a second, man.
21:24We'll get you out of here,
21:25okay?
21:27It's unbelievable.
21:31You're welcome.
21:34Over the
21:35about you're plenty of money.
21:44While detectives
21:45interview the remaining witnesses.
21:48Yeah.
21:49All right.
21:52Hey,
21:53they may have someone
21:54in custody
21:55under the bridge.
21:56Patrol spots Jack Bossin
21:58back at the crime scene.
22:00Suspect has a knife on him.
22:12In the Mobile shooting death
22:14of 63-year-old Martin Hands,
22:16shot 12 times
22:18with an assault rifle
22:18in his truck,
22:19a family member
22:21of the possible shooter
22:22has just called 911.
22:32Where is this happening?
22:34I'm not even sure.
22:37He came to my house.
22:38He's at my house.
22:42Officers respond
22:43to the woman's home
22:44and detain the family member.
22:48So they got him detained?
22:50Yeah.
22:51Say the guy had dreads.
22:58A half hour later...
23:03Just want to see what you got.
23:05He got killed
23:07from his house.
23:09Xavier Dixon.
23:11Nineteen-year-old
23:12Xavier Dixon
23:13has no prior convictions.
23:16He graduated with honors
23:17from Murphy High School.
23:20He lives at that
23:21apartment complex.
23:23End up recovering his car.
23:26A red Mustang
23:27with front-end damage
23:28and black paint streaks
23:30was recovered near the house
23:31where Xavier was detained.
23:33I'm standing by for work.
23:35The apparel and ID.
23:36The Mustang
23:37will be towed
23:38to the crime lab
23:38for processing
23:39while patrol takes
23:40Xavier to homicide.
23:42We got you.
23:43We'll head that way
23:44and just go there.
23:45I got you.
23:46All right, man.
23:56Before speaking
23:57to Xavier
23:59Lieutenant
24:00emailed something.
24:01Oh, this is
24:02the shooting.
24:05Barton gets
24:06surveillance video
24:06from apartment complex
24:08cameras facing
24:09the crime scene.
24:12So you see
24:13the red Mustang
24:14pull up.
24:16Then you see
24:17the black truck
24:17pull behind
24:19the red Mustang
24:19right there
24:20at the front entrance.
24:25He got out
24:26of the driver's seat.
24:27I mean,
24:28it looks like him.
24:29Hey, yeah.
24:31You can see
24:32somebody holding
24:33a rifle,
24:33kind of greeting him
24:34near the front gate.
24:45The person hands
24:46the driver the rifle.
24:54Oh, my gosh.
24:57They just unloaded
24:58into the car.
24:59Wow.
25:17He circles his car.
25:22Then he drives away.
25:25And our victim's
25:26already dead
25:26or dying.
25:35Pretty compelling,
25:36to say the least.
25:39At this point,
25:40I think all we can do
25:41is, you know,
25:42sit down with this
25:43young man
25:43and see
25:43what he's going
25:44to tell us.
25:46Yeah, he may not
25:46tell us anything.
25:53Hey, what's up, man?
25:54Can you just roll over
25:55in that corner for me?
25:57Barton and Sergeant
25:58Nick Cropot
25:59will interview
26:00Xavier Dixon.
26:03Xavier?
26:05I want to give you
26:06an opportunity, man,
26:07to talk to me
26:08if you want.
26:14So, where was
26:15your life threatened?
26:29Had you ever
26:30seen
26:30who was following you
26:31before?
26:32Never.
26:33Okay.
26:35Do you know
26:36where that first started?
26:38Cody.
26:39Cody Ray.
26:40Soon,
26:40as soon as we got on
26:42Hill Christmas.
26:43You were both
26:43turning that left?
26:44Yeah.
26:45Okay.
26:45When we was turning,
26:47he smashed on brakes.
26:49He says that the truck
26:50in front of him
26:51stopped suddenly.
26:52He was in front of me
26:53and then got behind me.
26:56He's behind you,
26:57following you.
26:57Mm-hmm.
26:59He definitely was
27:00following the direction
27:01I was going in.
27:02Was that pretty much
27:03what he was doing
27:04the whole time,
27:05this black truck?
27:06Yes.
27:06No other cars
27:07could even get in
27:08because he was
27:10closing gaps.
27:11Gotcha.
27:13All right, let me ask you
27:13there's damage
27:14to his truck
27:17and your vehicle.
27:19Can you explain that?
27:21I have prior damage.
27:24I wouldn't know
27:24about the back of his vehicle.
27:26So there was no
27:29collision
27:30or any sort of issue
27:31that you guys had?
27:33Mm-hmm.
27:34While you're driving,
27:35this man's following you.
27:37Did you call anybody?
27:40I called my residence.
27:42Who was that?
27:43He says he called
27:44a family member
27:45who was at his apartment
27:45in the complex
27:46where the shooting occurred.
27:48I told him,
27:50I think I'm getting
27:51fought over.
27:52Okay.
27:54Okay.
27:54And I just go home.
27:55Okay.
27:57Once you get home,
27:59from that point,
28:00the video at the apartment
28:01complex shows
28:02what happens.
28:03Okay?
28:04But the video
28:05doesn't speak.
28:06The video only shows.
28:08And so what's going
28:10through a person's mind
28:11is what's important.
28:12And that's what
28:13we need from you here.
28:15And what was going
28:16through your head
28:17when this shooting happened.
28:21I feel...
28:35In the Tulsa stabbing death
28:37of Eddie Gilcrease,
28:38detectives have just learned
28:40their suspect,
28:41Jack Bossin,
28:42has been taken into custody.
28:54I figured he'd be
28:55around close.
29:00Let me take a peek at it.
29:09Did you tell
29:10the crap she types
29:11that he's dead?
29:15Oh, yeah.
29:16There's blood all over it.
29:19That would have hurt
29:20really bad.
29:26All right, Jack.
29:27I'm Detective White.
29:28This is Detective Brown
29:30over here.
29:32Where are you living at?
29:35The Bridge.
29:36It's off the Katy Trail,
29:37behind the jail.
29:41Have you taken
29:42any drugs or anything?
29:43Or are you just tired?
29:44Just tired.
29:45Me too.
29:47Okay, I want to talk
29:48to you tonight
29:48based on what happened
29:50out there.
29:54Yeah.
29:54Tell me what happened
29:55tonight.
30:06Was the guy
30:07white or black?
30:16He says that he chased
30:18the victim
30:18around the encampment.
30:20He knew I was going
30:20to pull the knife,
30:21you know what I mean?
30:21So he pulled his knife.
30:23And that's when we started
30:23going at it with the knife.
30:25You know,
30:25he was going to cover him.
30:28He turned right this way,
30:29and we were fired.
30:30He came at me again,
30:32and when he came at me
30:33this way,
30:33I came at him that way,
30:35and I kind of cut him
30:36right there,
30:36right here somewhere,
30:37and he started bleeding.
30:40Where did you cut him?
30:42He lost my arm,
30:43and that's it.
30:44He walked fast off,
30:45and he was bleeding.
30:48How bad was he bleeding?
30:50I think it was pretty
30:51young.
30:54Is it possible
30:54that maybe he had
30:55something else,
30:56and that to you,
30:57you thought it was a knife?
30:59Well, it's a
31:00name.
31:17Did you pull your knife
31:18out first?
31:20You just don't tell him
31:21who pulled who's out,
31:21you know,
31:22because he had one pulled out,
31:23too.
31:29What did it look like then?
31:32It wasn't like mine,
31:33because mine's kind of black.
31:34Okay.
31:34This is the clear one.
31:36You can see it,
31:37you know what I mean?
31:39We didn't find a knife on him.
31:42Do you have any idea
31:42where that would be?
31:43Uh, no.
31:46I've got a lot of witnesses
31:47of people that live down there.
31:50I mean,
31:51they're right there
31:51watching this happen,
31:52and not a one of them
31:53saw him with a knife.
31:55Whatever they're going to say
31:56about what they say,
31:56they didn't see a thing,
31:57because they were sitting up
31:58there the whole time.
31:59It was us in that circle
32:00that would have seen that.
32:01Who's in a circle
32:02that would have seen that?
32:03They call him
32:04they call him pick,
32:05you know what I mean?
32:06the one that was
32:07sitting right there.
32:08He says one of the witnesses
32:09brought to homicide
32:10saw the altercation.
32:12Yeah, I talked to
32:15said he didn't see
32:16either one of you
32:17with a weapon.
32:20I think you handled
32:21this wrong today.
32:24Would you agree with that?
32:26I only pulled a knife
32:27where I got to use
32:28if somebody else
32:29is pulling a knife
32:29because of self-defense.
32:31You ain't going to tell me
32:31that I'm wrong for that
32:32and you want to come
32:34and meet that
32:34and I have it wrong?
32:37Huh?
32:37I didn't do nothing.
32:38I did everything right.
32:41That's it.
32:43All right.
32:45Do you know
32:45what happened to him?
32:48No, he's welcome.
32:50Yeah, he actually died.
32:53What?
32:54Yeah.
32:57How do you feel about that?
32:59I feel pretty
32:59bad because I didn't know
33:01what, I mean,
33:03I cut him.
33:04I mean, I may have
33:05been in front of him.
33:06And that's being a man
33:06about it, for real.
33:07I mean, that's real.
33:08Yeah, I know.
33:08I cut him.
33:09I'm the one that cut him.
33:11We're going to go ahead
33:12and collect the clothes.
33:14I'm going to go back here.
33:14I'm going to try to figure out
33:15what we're going to do
33:16with you.
33:17But I do appreciate
33:18your cooperation.
33:19Pull your shoes off.
33:21Pull one shoe in here.
33:27I believe that he's
33:28being truthful about
33:30a good many details
33:33to this incident.
33:34I don't think
33:36that the victim
33:38was the aggressor
33:39in any way.
33:41I don't have any witnesses
33:43that claim that he was
33:44pulling a knife on them.
33:46There was none of that.
33:47I don't think the suspect
33:49meant to kill him.
33:51If he wanted to kill him,
33:52he could have stabbed him
33:53in the chest,
33:54in the neck.
33:56It's still a problem.
33:59Six hours after
34:00Eddie Gilcrease
34:01was found dead,
34:02White closes his case.
34:21I will say this.
34:23I was very, very impressed
34:24with the people
34:26that were there
34:26and their willingness
34:28to come forward.
34:29Those individuals
34:30that live under there,
34:31they can be victimized
34:33any moment.
34:38They were really upset
34:39by what had happened,
34:40and they felt that
34:41the victim did not
34:43deserve this.
34:44but I am glad
34:45that we got the knife.
34:46I'm glad he's
34:47off the streets.
34:55As it stands right now,
34:57we can't locate anybody
34:59to be able to
35:01pass along the information
35:02that Mr. Gilcrease
35:03has died.
35:05I've been able
35:06to track him back
35:07to basically Arizona,
35:08and that's where
35:09I hit a brick wall.
35:11A lot of homeless people
35:12out here are certainly
35:13estranged from their families,
35:16and I think a lot
35:17of these individuals
35:17opt to not go
35:18at the shelter.
35:19I think that they
35:20just become hardened.
35:22They become very,
35:24very tough people,
35:26and they have to
35:28because their survival
35:29depends upon it.
35:31It's just sad.
35:32It really is.
35:34I don't know
35:34what the answer is.
35:35You got encampments
35:37everywhere,
35:37and we just can't do that.
35:40There's got to be
35:41some better way.
35:57In the mobile killing
35:58of Martin Hands,
35:59detectives are trying
36:00to find out
36:01why the suspect,
36:02Xavier Dixon,
36:04opened fire on the victim.
36:14The man inside the truck,
36:16what was he doing
36:16when y'all first
36:18pulled up to the complex?
36:21I walked to the
36:22side of the car
36:23when I asked him,
36:26like, what are you doing?
36:28What is he saying?
36:29Nothing.
36:30He started moving.
36:35I started shooting
36:36when he did like that.
36:42So you could see
36:43through the window
36:43and see him?
36:44Yeah, like,
36:45maybe like the elbow
36:46is where the window
36:48went down to.
36:50Did you ever see a weapon
36:52in this vehicle?
36:55Hmm.
37:05All we're asking you
37:07to do is be truthful
37:08and honest.
37:29I'm going to see you're not
37:30going to answer the question.
37:31I'm sorry.
37:42Where's the gun at?
37:43Can you tell us that?
37:45Bend the rear car.
37:47Bend the trunk.
37:50Would you be willing
37:51to give us consent
37:52to look in your car
37:53and get that weapon?
37:58Okay.
38:01All right.
38:26I'm going to call the DA.
38:30The suspect is a Xavier Dixon.
38:34He said he was alone
38:35when he did the shooting.
38:38Yeah, that's good.
38:39Yep.
38:41Hi.
38:44We're going to go ahead
38:45and charge Xavier Dixon
38:47with the murder.
38:50The person that provided
38:51the gun,
38:52that gave the gun
38:52to Xavier,
38:53he's not being charged
38:54in this situation.
38:56It doesn't appear
38:57that any laws were broken
38:59by him giving Xavier a gun.
39:02The suspect Xavier
39:04made a phone call
39:05to somebody
39:06that he cared about
39:06saying,
39:07man, this person's
39:08following me.
39:09This kid's already
39:10had a plan.
39:12Pulls into
39:13the apartment complex,
39:14is handed a rifle,
39:16walks up to the truck
39:17and shoots into the truck.
39:19Never saw a gun,
39:21saw the guy maybe moving.
39:22But you can't just then
39:24turn the gun on a guy
39:26in a truck
39:28because he was following you.
39:30He's not justified
39:31in what he did to Martin.
39:34He's going to be
39:34held accountable for it.
39:36You're going to walk him out?
39:38Straight to the car, right?
39:41Just four hours
39:42after Martin Hands
39:43was killed in his truck,
39:45Xavier Dixon
39:46is charged
39:46with his murder.
40:09Something had to have happened
40:11that caused the victim
40:12to follow Xavier
40:14to the apartment complex.
40:16Was this a situation
40:17where, you know,
40:19there was some type
40:19of traffic accident?
40:21Or was this some type
40:22of road rage incident
40:23where they had words
40:24with each other somehow?
40:26There's a number of things
40:27he could have done
40:28instead of walking up
40:30to the man's vehicle.
40:31Could have called 911,
40:33which is what he should have done.
40:35It's a tragic situation
40:37all the way around.
40:39I think this is a situation
40:41where Xavier's emotions
40:43got the best of him.
40:44Xavier took things
40:45way too far.
40:47It's one thing
40:47to be upset about
40:48an incident,
40:49but he took matters
40:51into his own hands,
40:52introduced a gun
40:53in this situation,
40:55and shot and killed somebody.
41:13I think I cried
41:16most of the way here.
41:18Four months
41:19after the killing
41:20of Martin Hands,
41:21his friends and family
41:23gather to celebrate his life.
41:24Did you see our shirts
41:26that we had made?
41:28This was Martin's
41:29favorite thing to do,
41:31is to ride with his friends
41:32down the Mississippi road.
41:38He liked the freedom,
41:41the, you know,
41:42going down these back roads,
41:43smelling the trees,
41:45the lakes,
41:45and enjoying life,
41:48you know.
41:49His bike is the orange Harley,
41:52and mine was the blue.
41:54Our plan was
41:55to retire in Phoenix,
41:56and we were going
41:57to take a lot of trips
41:58and do small rides
42:00all over the world.
42:03You would never think
42:04it would happen,
42:05but within a blink of an eye,
42:07we lost one of the greatest
42:08mans on earth.
42:10He was the most kind-hearted
42:12person you could ever meet.
42:13He would just genuinely
42:15help you out if you need it.
42:16If you needed $5,
42:17he'd give you $20.
42:19He just,
42:20he's had a console.
42:22He's going to turn 64.
42:25For someone to take his life,
42:30I just don't understand.
42:32He took away somebody
42:34very special.
42:36He's going to take his life,
42:38and he's going to take his life,
