00:28Let's take a closer look at the larger context here.
00:32And of course, he is the president of Medef.
00:35Welcome to Viva Tech News.
00:36Hello.
00:36Good to have you.
00:37So when we look at the larger context of what's happening here, the pandemic hit the world three years ago.
00:43We saw a huge shift in working habits from the office to working from home.
00:48It's been impressive to see how companies and employees have adapted to this major change.
00:52I want to know, how do you see this new way of working?
00:56Well, I think the new way of working is here to stay.
01:00We've signed a major national agreement with the trade unions to make sure that companies have a framework to implement
01:08that in their own companies.
01:10We have now about, I think, 15,000 companies which have signed an agreement.
01:14And the sort of the pattern is now two days at home, three days at the office.
01:22Obviously, that doesn't concern everybody.
01:24You have, I don't know, drivers, people like that are not obviously in a home office and telework.
01:31But we see that growing more and more.
01:35You have security issues.
01:36You have also comfort issues.
01:39Make sure that people can work from home in a comfortable situation.
01:42But that's really changing the world.
01:44Yeah, absolutely.
01:45So in 2023, does a company even need a physical location to reach their objectives and have a good work
01:52culture?
01:52Yes, because you find out that companies which are completely remote lose a sense of leadership.
01:59People need physical contact.
02:01So I think the right balance is somewhere around two days home, three days office.
02:06I mean, it can be three days office and vice versa.
02:10But no physical office leads to a really sometimes burnout, sometimes personal psychological difficulties.
02:19So I really, we're pleading for a good balance.
02:23That's great.
02:24And like any moment in technological transformations, there's both opportunities and risks here.
02:30I want to take AI as an example.
02:32Where do you see the opportunities?
02:33How can we mitigate the risks of AI?
02:35And what are some of the positive and negative impacts on employees?
02:39Well, I'm looking at the positive side first.
02:42I think it's a huge opportunity to create more jobs.
02:47Some jobs will disappear.
02:48There will be more jobs created.
02:50It will suppress some tasks in companies which are no added value.
02:55And I think it's an opportunity more than a threat.
02:59Now, there are threats.
03:01Threats on security, threat on fake news, threat on sovereignty as well.
03:06We're pushing to have alternatives to the American opportunities.
03:11We've just announced, I'm one of the investors, a new venture, Mystery AI, which is a purely French initiative.
03:20They've just raised 105 million euros.
03:23So it's a new world.
03:24Like any new world, you have to take the opportunity first.
03:27In France right now, we are lagging behind in the AI sector.
03:32Or are we lagging behind in the AI sector?
03:34Or are we rising to the challenge of integrating and supporting this new technology, doing it at the right pace?
03:40Well, we just had a study made on the French companies.
03:44And you see roughly two-thirds of the French companies are looking at AI.
03:49But one-third is not.
03:51And that one-third, which is really SMEs, might be in danger to lose opportunities or to lose market share.
03:59So our job at Medef is to make sure that everybody is aware and trained and the managers and the
04:06leaders and the owner of the company are fully aware of what's happening, what will be coming soon.
04:11Wonderful.
04:12And what are you watching here at Viva Tech?
04:14I don't know.
04:15I've just arrived, so I haven't done my tour.
04:17But I think Viva Tech is a fantastic example of how Europe, how France can compete with the U.S.,
04:23can show that they've got the future Elon Musk somewhere in this venture, in this show.
04:30Wonderful.
04:30Well, thank you so much for joining.
04:31Thank you.
04:32I appreciate the time.
04:33All right.
04:33You're watching Viva Tech News.
04:35I want to move on now to one of our reporters on the ground.
04:39Let's check in on the main action.
