00:00And now we're going to be joined by our next guest, Pauline Adon-Calfon.
00:05She is the Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer and member of PwC France and Maghreb,
00:12Management Board at PwC France.
00:23So let's talk about diversity with you, Pauline, again.
00:28Just a quick reminder, definitely a partner.
00:31You're responsible for Web3.
00:32We're going to dive into Web3 in a few.
00:35But first, let's tackle the Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer I have in front of my
00:40eyes here and this story and topics with you.
00:45First question, you don't have four hours because it sounds like philosophy, but how is tech
00:50contributing to humanity's development?
00:54First of all, hello.
00:56And tech is a very powerful lever to transform the existing business models so that they
01:03can meet the challenges of our contemporary world, such as climate, democracy, equal opportunities.
01:11Well, in short, what's the 193 UN members have called the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Goals.
01:22Absolutely.
01:23And as a head of inclusion and diversity, what are some of the challenges you face and how
01:29is technology helping you to overcome them?
01:32Many, but just to mention two of them, I would say probably the first is culture.
01:38Yeah.
01:38Second is measurement, to be able to measure the progress and how tech can be a wonderful
01:45lever.
01:45I would say that, for example, within PwC, we have developed a training based on new technology
01:52called In My Shoes, which is wonderful in terms of impact so that the people understand
01:57and because they really feel in the shoes of the others what are equal opportunities.
02:02Another thing about measurement, obviously tech around all the solution, tech analytics
02:08and so on, is also very powerful to help companies like us to measure the progress.
02:15Absolutely.
02:16Now the French tech sector is really trying to commit to more inclusion and diversity.
02:21and how can technology can actually, or what concrete steps actually can we help them
02:28take in terms of policy creation?
02:31Again, just for commitment's sake.
02:35PwC is really committed for a few years to work with an incredible French non-profit organization
02:43called DiversiDays.
02:44And together with DiversiDays and Occurrence, we released last year a report on diversity
02:51within start-ups and we released this report and shared it with the Minister of Digital
02:56Transition and Telecommunication.
03:01What does the people told us in this report, because we went and we interviewed them, many
03:07things, but one figure I want to share.
03:0940% of the start-up employees tell us that either they witnessed or they were a victim of
03:16discrimination within the companies they work in, the start-ups.
03:22Yeah.
03:22Which is why we are very, as a committed player again, PwC, we're very happy to continue the
03:30work and to join what the Take Your Place initiative has done by aligning investment funds so that
03:40they commit themselves within their portfolio companies for a more inclusive tech and globally
03:47they are putting together some objectives and some measures and nine funds have already been
03:54aligned and signed a charter around this measurement.
03:57Absolutely.
03:58Change needs to be measurable if we actually want to commit to more inclusion and diversity.
04:03And just let me say that Antoine Babkin does an amazing job with diversity.
04:08Now, I mean, I promise we would get back to Web3 because it's also, I mean, your core subject
04:16and topic here at PwC.
04:18So Web3 and the Metaverse, of course they have a massive potential to harness a lot of different
04:25revolution out there.
04:27But I mean, they used to be on the rise a year ago and now we're still trying to see
04:32them and to understand how much and how far they're going to change the way we learn, the
04:38way we live, the way we work.
04:41How can they actually contribute to improving society?
04:45So PwC, we launched with the Elix Foundation, the first sustainable Web3 coalition with Web3
04:53pure players but also traditional corporates.
04:55Because we are convinced that Web3 through the community, which is by design transparent, which
05:08is inclusive and also decentralized, is a powerful accelerator to achieve these 17 sustainable
05:17development goals.
05:18And how are we working together within this coalition?
05:21We have worked around 10 convictions that we have.
05:25For example, Web3 can be a leverage for a fair remuneration across stakeholders that work
05:33on the same value chain.
05:35And we are working together to create some solutions around those 10 convictions.
05:41And today at Viva Tech, if you come on our booth at PwC, we are going to showcase some concrete
05:49examples on how Web3 can really help achieve the 2030 agendas around these sustainable goals.
05:57Now, there's definitely a controversy when it comes to AI about its bias and potential bias.
06:03Now, what you're telling us is that AI and Web3 and, of course, the Metaverse, too, can definitely
06:09reshape our live experience but also the way we can impact on future societies.
06:16Probably, if I would say, in world world, I think it's a hybridization and this implies
06:24to have trusted AI, trusted, you know, these emerging techs so that we really get, in our
06:31society, the expected sustainable outcomes.
06:34And this is precisely the mission of PwC, to help our clients to build trust and achieve
06:40sustained outcomes.
06:41Web3 technology can definitely be a great help and tool when it comes to more inclusivity
06:48and, of course, diversity for our societies.
06:51Thank you so much for stopping by, breaking tech.
