01:01The place to be for the next four days
01:03Three days professional
01:05One day open to the public
01:07My name is Michael Rickwood
01:08And I will be your host for these next four days
01:13Now look, this is called the discovery stage
01:15For a reason, right?
01:17Yes, you are going to discover things
01:20Yes, it's entertaining
01:22But the most important thing is
01:24You're going to learn something
01:24And you're going to learn a lot
01:27About technology
01:29For the next four days
01:30We're going to showcase some important
01:33Industrial and technical designs
01:35Which will help us as humanity going forward
01:38And boy, do we have a lot of challenges
01:41So here today and tomorrow
01:43In the next four days
01:44We're going to look at technological solutions
01:46Whether it's architecture
01:48Vehicles
01:50Agriculture
01:51AI
01:53AR
01:53VR
01:54Robotics
01:56Exoskeletons
01:57You name it, we got it
02:00So
02:02Now I'd just like to mention
02:03A little word about our sponsor
02:06Tog
02:07They have a mobility and smart city park
02:10Go and check it out over there
02:11There's many, many solutions
02:13Mobility and city solutions over there
02:16If you need more information about this event
02:18Go to Grand Central
02:19Which can be found in the middle of this event
02:23Okay
02:25I think I've spoken enough
02:26And I know what you're all really here for, right?
02:29That's a lot of people for the first pitch
02:32So
02:33I would like to take the opportunity
02:35Just to introduce our first speaker
02:37Who's going to unveil the air scooter
02:40And boy, it's very, very interesting
02:42So this man, he's an engineer
02:44He's a pioneer
02:46I'm a big fan
02:48He's very modest
02:50So please
02:51Our welcome to the stage
02:53Frankie Zapata
02:54Who's going to tell us about the air scooter
03:02Hello everybody
03:04I'm very excited
03:05It's amazing for me to be here
03:12So I'm here today
03:14To introduce the air scooter
03:16So thank you everybody
03:18To come to see that
03:20And thank you to Viva Tech
03:21For inviting me
03:23So
03:23Honestly
03:25It's
03:25I'm very exciting
03:27It's amazing
03:28It's a very
03:28Two years and a half
03:30Hard work
03:31To build this machine
03:32That is the
03:33Finality of
03:35It's really
03:36Everything that we learn
03:38Is a combination of
03:38Everything we learn
03:39And we develop
03:40Since the last
03:4220 years
03:43Since I
03:44Start from
03:45Jet key racing
03:46To
03:47Fly board
03:48To everything I have created
03:49So far
03:50This machine
03:51Is
03:52What we learn
03:54From
03:54From
03:55The very beginning
03:57And
03:57And we really feel
03:58That is
03:59What we need to achieve
04:01In our life
04:01So
04:04Before we
04:05Show you the machine
04:06I want to explain to you
04:08Why and how
04:09I'm here today
04:10So I have a very
04:12Unconventional career
04:13I left school
04:15When I was just 16 years old
04:16I don't know really why
04:18But I'm always
04:19Looking for
04:20A challenge
04:21And freedom
04:22So
04:23I always
04:24Also dream to fly
04:25But
04:26So I believe
04:27That I will be
04:28And I dream to be
04:29An helicopter pilot
04:30But
04:31Unfortunately
04:32I'm
04:32Colorblind
04:33So
04:33I was refused
04:35To the medical inspections
04:37So it was really hard for me
04:39Especially when
04:40When you are young
04:41And
04:41And so
04:43To
04:43To
04:44To
04:44Realize that
04:45One of your dreams
04:46You
04:47You must
04:48Put it on the side
04:49Because
04:49You
04:50You will never
04:51Be able to do it
04:52Because
04:52Because something
04:53That she's not
04:54Under your control
04:55So
04:55But anyway
04:57I really want
04:58To
04:58To achieve something
05:00In my life
05:00And to do
05:01To live my patience
05:02So
05:02I start jet ski racing
05:05Just by
05:06By chance
05:07You know
05:07And so
05:08In this way
05:09I cross the world
05:11Maybe
05:1120 times
05:13I realize
05:14I fulfilled
05:14All my kids dreams
05:16I become
05:17Several times
05:18World and
05:19European champions
05:20And
05:21I learn
05:22Almost everything
05:23I know today
05:24About technology
05:24And one day
05:27My dream to fly
05:28Was maybe
05:31Always in me
05:32And so
05:32Always I look
05:33At the sky
05:34And say
05:34How can I fly
05:35Even if I'm
05:36Colorblind
05:36And I create
05:37The waterfly board
05:39That maybe
05:40Some of you
05:40Already seen
05:41Flying over the beach
05:43It's a machine
05:44That is connected
05:44To a jet ski
05:46And that gives me
05:47Really this opportunity
05:48To fly
05:50So
05:51It's like
05:53Flying without
05:54All the restrictions
05:55All the problems
05:57Of safety
05:58Etc
05:58But it wasn't
06:00Really enough
06:01For me
06:02Even if it gives me
06:03The opportunity
06:04To scale the business
06:06To have an international business
06:07It wasn't enough
06:08For my dreams
06:09And one day
06:10I decide that
06:13I have
06:13Ready to fly
06:14And how to
06:15How to achieve it
06:16How to be able
06:17To fly
06:18And to be free
06:19To fly everywhere
06:20Over the planet
06:20And I dream
06:22To build this machine
06:23The fly border
06:24So
06:25It took us
06:26About three years
06:27To fly
06:28But
06:28A longer time
06:29To fly
06:29And stay in the air
06:30Don't fall anymore
06:32And
06:33So that
06:35That was something amazing
06:36And maybe some of you
06:37Already seen it
06:38I have the
06:39The chance
06:41To fly
06:41Even during
06:42The bussy day
06:43I have the chance
06:45I get the challenge
06:46With my team
06:46To cross
06:47The British channel
06:49And
06:49And
06:51That's
06:51Honestly something
06:52That
06:53Full file
06:54My key dreams
06:55But
06:56When after you think about
06:57How you can share it
06:59With the public
07:00How we can
07:01Share this patient
07:03Of fly
07:03I was sure that
07:04I'm not
07:06I will be not
07:06The only one
07:07That
07:08That we have this dream
07:09Because
07:09I'm colorblind
07:11I cannot fly
07:12But some of
07:13Some of you
07:13Have some problem
07:15With your eyes
07:16Not just because
07:17They're colorblind
07:17Or some
07:18Problem on their body
07:19They can never
07:21Become a pilot
07:21So
07:22How I can share
07:24This with maximum
07:25People on earth
07:26And the only way
07:27To do that
07:28Was to create
07:30A machine
07:30That was
07:31Stabilized
07:33Where you can
07:35Just fly
07:36You know
07:37Needn't to
07:38Spend years
07:39Or hours
07:40On how to learn
07:42How to learn
07:43To fly
07:43So we create
07:44The jet racer
07:46The jet racer
07:47Use
07:48Almost the same
07:49Technology
07:50Of the flight
07:50Border
07:51Except the flight controller
07:53The flight controller
07:54Is what gives us
07:55The ability
07:56To transform
07:57A normal guy
07:58In a very good pilot
08:00In less than 20 minutes
08:02So we
08:03This machine
08:05Is almost
08:06Just a milestone
08:07We use it
08:08To develop
08:09It's like
08:09A test bench
08:10For us
08:11And we realize
08:12Everything we expect
08:13In terms of
08:15Flight
08:16Flight envelope
08:17And how
08:18It's easy
08:18To fly
08:19But
08:20Anyway
08:21Our goal
08:23Since this
08:24Period of time
08:25Was to build
08:26A machine
08:26That
08:27Achieves
08:28All of us
08:29Explained
08:30Easy to use
08:31Etc
08:31But also
08:32That could be
08:33Mass market
08:34Compatible
08:35And if you
08:36Think about
08:37Mass market
08:37Compatible
08:38You need to
08:39Think also
08:39About sustainability
08:40And
08:42Everything that
08:43Our planet
08:44Needs today
08:44So we have to
08:45Change
08:46The energy
08:47We use
08:48And in a way
08:49To achieve that
08:50We developed
08:51The last piece
08:52We missed
08:53That was
08:53The propulsion system
08:55A system
08:55That consumes
08:56Almost 60 times
08:58Less energy
08:59Than the jet racer
09:00So I will show you
09:01What this means
09:02For us
09:04And what is
09:04The hair scooter
09:06Is
09:07To, to, to, to
09:12The, to
09:34To
09:34Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
10:05We spent approximately two years and a half to develop it.
10:09So I will tell you after more about how it works.
10:13But the technology we use is an hybrid engine
10:17that gives us the opportunity and the ability to fly for more than two hours
10:22under a specific rule that is called ultralight.
10:27It's a rule that exists only in the United States and few other countries in the world.
10:32In reality, this machine can fly approximately five, six hours
10:36if we don't care about the rules.
10:39But what makes this machine extremely different is what I explained before.
10:44It's how it's easy to fly.
10:46So a normal people can be a pilot in less than 20 minutes.
10:52And also the hybrid propulsion system.
10:56So that gives us the ability to be in business in the United States very early in 2024.
11:05So our vision is to start by the entertainment.
11:10So share with maximum people on earth what it means to fly.
11:15I'm sure that most of you already dream to fly.
11:18With this machine, you will be able to join us in Arizona or everywhere in the United States,
11:24pay your ticket and fly for more than one hour over a beautiful planet.
11:29So we will be able to do that.
11:33And no one of you need to be a pilot.
11:36You just need to come, have the training course and fly.
11:39So our vision is to create multiple flying centers over the United States first
11:46and after to expand our business and our business model all over the planet
11:52for all the countries that will apply the Utrelite rule.
11:58So we will start first, as I said, by the entertainment.
12:02The second step for us will be what we call entertainment mobility.
12:06It means like the ability to bring you from some place
12:12and, for example, bring you to an island to hit a pizza and bring you back.
12:17So not for the moment, for the very extreme mobility that people expect,
12:23like flying over Paris or flying over New York.
12:26We need to really gain experience in a way to be able to do that.
12:31So that will be the second step.
12:33And the third step, it's like everybody plans, but we want to go gradually.
12:39It's the real strong mobility to fly over cities.
12:43But to be honest with you, things have to change.
12:47The mentality has to change.
12:48The rule has to change.
12:49And during this time, nobody knows really what will be this machine.
12:55If it needs to be a single-seater, if it needs to be a bus, we don't really know.
13:04So we want to take this time where we will be in business,
13:10that we will collect millions of flying hour times
13:13and really see what will be the directions.
13:18And then we believe that by this way, we will be able to build the perfect machine
13:25for the long-term vision and for the advanced urban mobility.
13:31So it will be step-by-step.
13:35But at day one, next year, all of you will be able to fly.
13:40And that's, to be honest, I will realize one of my biggest dreams,
13:44the biggest dream in my life.
13:46So thank you, everybody.
13:51Thank you very much.
13:52Thank you, Frankie.
13:53All right.
13:54Just one minute for a question.
13:56Listen, so tell us about how it's run.
14:00It's not 100% electric, right?
14:02Yeah.
14:03So the biggest difference with this machine is an hybrid technology.
14:06So that we have, we patented it in 2016.
14:10So the thermic engines produce the thrust that we call an anti-gravity thrust.
14:16But it also generates electric power.
14:20And we have battery inside the hum that are considered as a buffer of energy
14:25that increase the flight envelope, increase the reaction times.
14:29Because the thermic engines don't have the same precision and fast reaction as the electric.
14:35And that gives us the ability to have two really separate and redundant energies.
14:40We can fly full electric.
14:41We can fly full thermic.
14:43But most of the time, we fly 80% thermic, 20% electric.
14:48And we needn't to recharge the battery.
14:50Okay.
14:51Yeah.
14:51Because if, for example, you sell a bunch of these to a city like Chicago,
14:54where it gets to less than 15,
14:56and you find yourself in the middle of the air,
14:58and you're only running on electric,
14:59if the engine cuts out, you're in trouble, right?
15:01But this basically, this is hybrid.
15:03That's what you're saying.
15:04Exactly.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Exactly.
15:05So that gives us the ability to fly full thermic, full electric.
15:08And regarding, for example, a little noise,
15:11most of the noise is generated by the electric and by the props.
15:15So this machine generates about half of the noise
15:20than the quietest EVTOL competitor on the market.
15:24because the machine is extremely light,
15:28and we have a very, very large props.
15:31So our disk load is very, very limited.
15:34So we are about,
15:36our noise signatures is about 55 dB at 100 meters.
15:41So very, very great.
15:42Okay.
15:42Very quickly.
15:43Tell me in 30 seconds about how it's piloted.
15:46Is it autopiloted?
15:47Is there actually a pilot in there?
15:49I mean, it's only a place for one person, right?
15:51Yeah, so at the moment I explained our goal is to start by the entertainment
15:54and the Utrecht rules for transforming all of you in a pilot.
15:58The requirement is 115 kilos, one sitter, and only 20 liters.
16:05So the way it's piloted is almost like every kind of drone or remote control.
16:11It's just you pilot with your thumb.
16:13And it's almost 100% autopiloted.
16:17But you believe you piloted.
16:18But it's like you're taking a pen,
16:20and you show the machine where you want to go on the map.
16:23So even if you release your hand,
16:25the machine will come back to home automatically.
16:27So you feel you're 100% in control,
16:30but in reality it's not.
16:32The autopilot is a copilot,
16:34and you can do everything you want.
16:36You are completely free to do whatever you want,
16:38except the others.
16:39Okay, so basically you're being flown,
16:41but at any point you can take over the controls
16:43and move it around.
16:44But then if you let go, it's automatic again.
16:46No, no, you pilot it.
16:48But you cannot do things that are out of the flight envelope
16:52or out of the directions the flight park already chooses.
16:57Okay, I understand.
16:58All right, well, listen, that's all we have time for.
17:00Thank you very much, Frankie.
17:01Thank you very much.
17:02Air scooter, ladies and gentlemen.
17:04Take a look.
17:05So we're waiting for you on our flight center.
17:10All right, so stick around.
17:13We are going to move into the next segment at 10.30
17:16where we will have something called the good hack
17:19where we will be having a debate
17:20about how can we open the door to more women in tech.
17:24Please stick around.
17:41Thank you very much.
18:03Thank you very much.
18:26Thank you very much.
