00:00I'm ready for all of the offseason speculation and reckless, reckless reports of things that
00:08might happen. All the click baiting that goes on with our beloved quarterback C.J. Stroud and
00:16it does just, hey, you know what could happen? Boom. Headline. C.J. Stroud could get traded.
00:22Boom. Headline. C.J. Stroud, the teams might be interested in targeting C.J. Stroud.
00:29Headline. Yeah. Yeah. I say boom after all of them. I kind of like that. It is. It's funny. It
00:33is. You get
00:34these notable national personalities talking about possibilities and, you know, potential
00:41situations and everything. And by the time you get, you play the telephone game with three or four
00:46aggregators and people run with it on social media, it's, it's all but, it's all but a, it's all but
00:51a
00:51done deal that C.J. Stroud is headed off somewhere. Package has been negotiated. It's two first round
00:56picks and a second round pick and boy, the Texans and the Texans have a lot of picks, but they'd
01:01have
01:01no quarterback. So there's that. It's funny because I see C.J. Stroud was trending at one
01:05point yesterday. So I look at it and it feels like it's one of those situations where it feels like
01:11all you find are people talking about how these C.J. Stroud rumors aren't true with none of the actual
01:17C.J. Stroud rumors. The trend becomes debunking something that I don't, I'm not even sure is
01:23actually something that it is, but there were a couple of quotes from Albert Breer and Todd McShay
01:28that kind of fueled the fire about C.J. Stroud potentially. Okay. So should we be the truth
01:32setters then in all this? Should we take all the smoke from yesterday? Yeah. That is really just
01:38one-sided smoke of teams that could call the Texans. We should be clear with people. The Texans don't have
01:44C.J. Stroud on the trade block that we know of. No, no, no. There's just a lot of people
01:47reporting that there might be interest in C.J. Stroud around the league and people might be
01:52calling the Texans interested in saying, which I, that part of it is a hundred percent plausible.
01:58Sure. You're kind of not doing your due diligence as a GM. If you don't have a quarterback and you
02:02don't at least at some point say to Nick, so, uh, you know, you guys, is there a, is there
02:07a package
02:07you might be comfortable with? And it's more, I would say stuff like that is more likely to happen
02:13this off season than in previous off seasons with a player like C.J. Stroud, because there are not a
02:18lot of solutions out there at quarterback right now. Yeah. The market is not flush with veteran
02:25guys looking to latch onto a team. You know, the, the, the top names of guys that could be changing
02:31teams are guys like Kyler Murray and Tua Tunga-Vailoa who are incredibly flawed.
02:35Well, and one of the theories too out there right now is teams gotten really good at retaining their
02:40favorite players and that just trades in general might be a lot more liberal or aggressive this
02:46off season. Yep. So, um, so let's play some of this audio that we're talking about here. Let's
02:50start with Albert Breer. This was on a radio row last week, I believe during the Superbowl where
02:55Albert Breer said that teams may be looking to take big swings at quarterback this off season.
03:01I think some of these teams out here are going to quietly take big swings at quarterback and call
03:07teams. You wouldn't think that you, you'd be able to call. And I think that that's going to be a
03:11big
03:11piece. Now we're going to have like the reclamation. Would you take a swing at Joe Burrow?
03:14I would call. I mean, and that's sort of what I'm getting at. Okay. You know, like I think teams
03:19are
03:19going to call Cincinnati on Joe Burrow. I think teams are going to call Houston on C.J. Stroud. Now,
03:23please don't aggregate this and say anyone is shopping anyone because that's not what this is. Good luck with
03:27that. That's not what this is. But when you look at the makeup of where we are, right. And look,
03:33Fernando Mendoza, I mean, fit him in silver and black right now. He's going to be, he's going to
03:39be a bit, he's going to be Las Vegas Raider. There's a massive drop-off. There's not another
03:44quarterback that people are excited about in this year's class. Okay. And that's true. If you look
03:49at any of the mock drafts, Fernando Mendoza is the only one going in the first round. You got to,
03:53you have to have a two or three round mock draft to see Ty Simpson's name or other quarterback names.
03:59So let's, let's, let's frame that for what it is. That's just Albert. That's that he may as well
04:05be a fan. He's flat out saying don't aggregate. Yeah. Yeah. And you're right. He's in the end.
04:10This is no, this is zero shade at Albert Breer. Right. He himself said, he himself said,
04:15this is just him and educated football mind, the landscape and saying it's a weak draft for
04:21quarterback. There's some quarterbacks out there that, that T that teams may be inclined to listen
04:28to trade offers on because in the case of Joe Burrow, he's, he's at least conducted himself
04:33in a way that it looks like he's not very happy with the situation in Cincinnati. Burrow, especially
04:38is flat out. Just said that, you know, who can say what'll happen in the future? He hasn't really,
04:44he's egged it on. He hasn't. Yes. Yes. He's egged it on. He's been openly depressed on camera.
04:50CJ has been the opposite in terms of talking about the team that he's on. CJ has gone out of
04:54his way
04:55to talk about how much he loves Houston and he wants to be in Houston. I would say the similarity
05:01with Joe Burrow is what you just said, Seth, that the various times throughout games, he hasn't looked
05:05very happy. The big thing with CJ, he hasn't played very well in the last, you know, the last we
05:09saw
05:09him, he was throwing four interceptions in a playoff game and possibly being the catalyst for
05:15the Texans not getting to the Super Bowl. Yeah. And the interesting thing about Burrow,
05:19you know, CJ's had his concussion issues, but other than that, he's been pretty healthy. He's
05:23played through some injuries, but he's, he's been on the field except when his brain isn't bruised
05:27and Joe Burrow's had some, you know, pretty notable injuries throughout his career. So when it comes to
05:33trade compensation, Joe Burrow's a more proven bonafide top tier quarterback, but he's got injury and age
05:40concerns. CJ, there's probably teams out there that look at him as man. All right. He's on it.
05:45A lot of team that, you know, the offense, the offense was 31st in cap hit per, uh, cap hit
05:53for
05:53the offense this year. They just don't spend a lot on their offense. Defense was sixth in the league
05:59in that. The Texans spent a lot on their defense and not on their offense. Texans were also atrocious
06:03as a rushing football team. So there's a lot of teams out there that might say, all right, well,
06:08look, he's been in a bad situation. We know we can run the ball better than Houston has the last
06:12couple of years at the very least. And maybe we've got a better offensive line that it's worth us
06:17trading for CJ, which all of that leads back to the question. If you're the Texans is all right,
06:23if other teams are thinking this about CJ Stroud, then why on earth would we be giving up CJ
06:27Stroud instead of just improving our offensive line, improving our Russian game, all of those things.
06:32Yeah. And I think that's what the Texans are thinking. I think there's, I think there's a 0%
06:36chance they're trading CJ Stroud. And yet let's get to Todd McShay. This, this did get aggregated
06:42quite a bit. This got aggregated. And this is funny. I'm going to, we'll play this in two parts
06:46because the first part is just funny, but the tone of all of this, and I cut this up a
06:51good amount,
06:51but it's kind of one of those things where, Hey, I've heard things, but I can't really talk about
06:57all of it yet. He's hinting that he's got inside info. Okay. So this is the first one. Yeah. Todd
07:03McShay
07:03laying it out. The CJ, CJ Stroud situation. There's going to be some big name quarterbacks
07:10that are currently in destinations that have contracts that are going to be targeted. Teams
07:15are going to be aggressive. CJ Carr is one of them. Okay. CJ Carr. I mean, it's not CJ. CJ
07:23Stroud.
07:23Sorry. Yeah. I was confused as well. The, the, he, he did an old, he pulled a setter in his
07:29mind.
07:30He was thinking about Derek Carr because he's going to be a topic of conversation as well.
07:35But he was trying to say CJ. Well, I think he's a draft expert, Todd McShay. So I think he
07:39was
07:39talking about CJ Carr, the Notre Dame quarterback. Oh, that's right. That's right. You're a hundred
07:42percent in my mind because when he, but he was talking about big, no, no, no, no. He, but he
07:46was
07:46talking about big names that are already under contract. Yeah. So I think that Derek Carr is in
07:50that bucket. Okay. Cause he's also, Derek Carr has hinted that he might be willing to come back.
07:54Only McShay knows who was on his mind. Yeah. Whatever, whatever it was. So here's where he
07:59gets into the nitty gritty of who he's actually talking about. CJ Stroud's a name. Does he need
08:03a new, new scenery? Joe Burrow's a long shot. No one thinks it's going to happen, but like,
08:09I'm just getting out ahead of, you're going to hear some information, whether it's at the forefront,
08:14like on the ticker or some whispers and rumors that, wow, someone allegedly threw a lot of money
08:21and a lot of picks and a lot of, you know, a lot of compensation offer offers in a package
08:27to try
08:28to get Joe Burrow out of Cincinnati. So be prepared for that. Okay. So McShay, McShay is doing what
08:33Breer was doing with more of a prediction angle to it, which is that there will be offers for these
08:38guys that will get reported out there that, that I'm assuming if the Texans are the teams that are
08:44getting, if one of the teams getting targeted, we'll say no, thank you to that. Yeah. And I think
08:48that's again, the scuttlebutt and what people are hearing, everything is probably just that there
08:52are, as, as you already said, there is, there's teams out there that are going to be either
08:57desperate or aggressive and trying to pick up a quarterback and they're going to, they're going
09:01to call around. They should be right. Right. They're going to talk to Derek Carr's agent just to see
09:06exactly what he's thinking. Burrow a hundred percent. Joe Burrow. The big question is, Hey,
09:11is Joe Burrow going to try to force his way out as other, other Bengals quarterbacks before him.
09:17Yeah. And just flat out. It's a, do we get a report this off season that Joe Burrow would
09:22rather retire than play for the Bengals again? Like Carson Palmer that happened with Carson
09:26Palmer. Yeah. Carson Palmer flat out threatened to retire instead of going back to Cincinnati.
09:31Yep. And, uh, really side note to that, by the way, Ryan Fitzpatrick, I don't know if he's just
09:36trying to, we played something of his a week or two ago. Oh, that's right. The, the, he said that
09:41the Texas might just should ride with Davis Mills. Yeah. Trade away CJ Stroud and ride with Davis
09:46Mills that today. Yesterday I saw him on his podcast saying that the Bengals need to get,
09:52uh, Max Crosby on their team. And I'm thinking like, what, what part of Max Crosby is going to
09:58want to go to a team that just showed that they don't want to take care of their franchise defensive
10:04end. Right. It is the one team in the league that's as dysfunctional as the, the Las Vegas Raiders. I,
10:10I know it would be a trade, but there's, he would go kicking and screaming his long and lanky limbs
10:16to Cincinnati. Yeah. Yeah. No chance. So, but again, that's a little bit of a silly talk that
10:20comes when, when there's trade things. I just, I, as of right now, there's no actual reports from
10:26anywhere in Houston. There's no, there's no anything about the Texans wanting to trade or get
10:33rid of CJ Stroud. The real question is, are the Texans going to want to extend CJ Stroud and at
10:39what price and what would that deal look like? Are they just going to make it a prove it year
10:44for CJ
10:45Stroud? And we're coming up on the dates, man. We're coming up March, March 11th is the beginning
10:50of the new league year. That's the first day it can happen. Last year, it happened with Derek
10:55Stingley jr. Just a few days after the start of the league year. I bet the more analogous situation
11:00to Stingley is Will Anderson jr., which I have predicted will happen shortly after the league
11:04year starts. Sean, did you click on the graphic that I had? I did. I've got it open right now.
11:09Yeah. That's very depressing. I like it when they take advanced stats and put it into simple form
11:14for simpletons like you and I. Yeah. The it's, it basically has the, the teams run blocking and
11:21run play efficiency. So it's a graph with all the teams with their logos on there. And all you need
11:26to
11:26know is that right down there in the lower left court quadrant, all the way to the left,
11:32gunked in with the Raiders and the chargers are your Houston Texans where they're that that's how
11:37saints and the Browns are down there too. That's how bad the rushing attack was. So I thought,
11:41you know what, you know, we had a quarterback that people thought wasn't all that great,
11:45but had a good year and ended up winning the Superbowl, Sam Darnold's, where are they on this
11:48graph? Boom. Smack dab in the center. Just an average, just average. Okay. Just an average rushing attack.
11:55Okay. But you pair with that, Jackson Smith and Jigbo, one of the best receivers in the league
12:01and a few other things. And man, Sam Darnold looks like a different version of himself. I would,
12:07without making too many excuses for CJ Stroud, I would really love to see what he looks like if
12:14on a team where the blocking is just average, where they can run the ball at an average clip,
12:19where they can offset some of the things that make it hard for a quarterback to operate. And
12:24we just haven't seen that in the last few years. The last couple of years was Stroud looking at
12:29the teams on the opposite end of this graph. As you mentioned, the Texans are in the lower,
12:33lower, lower left corner. If you're in the upper, upper, upper right corner, it means you're the
12:37opposite. The Rams are Pluto basically on this thing. Probably the second best team in the NFL.
12:43Yeah. Yeah. The Rams, the bills are up there. Uh, Chicago bears, look at old Ben Johnson,
12:48huh? The bears who aggressively rebuilt their offensive line in the off season. And that's the
12:54big one. Hey, how are people feeling about Caleb Williams after his rookie year? Not so hot. They
13:00got him a better offensive line and they still, Caleb Williams is still the limiting factor in that
13:05offense in some degrees, but they, but he looked a whole lot better with a good offensive line in
13:11front of them. A little Vikings action in there, a little Cowboys, a little Colts, Colts action right
13:16next to Ben Johnson. Well, Sean Payton action right there. Yeah. Those are the types of teams that are
13:21in the upper right quadrant. It's not as nice a tale to tell with the Vikings, but it's still no,
13:25but, but, but again, a good offensive coach that didn't have much to work with at quarterback this
13:29year, uh, you know, finds his run game, at least in the upper right hand quadrant there. You know,
13:34that's, I think that's a testament to KOC that they're up there. Some of that, that comes back
13:38on Nick Haley. Also, I think the big difference is that is that the Texans put together a more
13:43viable offensive line this year without guys, without actually guys playing all that well,
13:50they just, the offense was structured to take, to make it easier for that offensive line.
13:56And they didn't hurt you as much, but they still need more studs out there. And part of that is
14:01hopefully just Ariante Hursery continuing to progress. For sure. For sure. Um, I was looking
14:06this morning on Twitter. Today is a big day on the NFL calendar. Teams can begin applying franchise
14:12or transition tags today through March the 3rd, which is a couple of weeks away. Um, the names to
14:19keep an eye on, I would say for the Texans, the candidates that Schefter lists here, Seth, uh,
14:24he lists seven candidates here. Two of them are on the Colts, Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce.
14:30Um, George Pickens with the Cowboys, I think is widely expected to get a franchise tag. And again,
14:34the franchise tag can just be a placeholder to a long-term deal, but it keeps those guys
14:40as, uh, you know, keeps their teams with their, with their rights, uh, for this off season, Kyle
14:45Pitts, Trey Hendrickson, the two that I think Texan fans should have an eye on, on the list that
14:51Schefter puts together, Kenneth Walker, the third Superbowl MVP running back from Seattle
14:56and Brees Hall running back from the New York jets. I think those are those of the guys on
15:01this list right here that Schefter put together on the tweet that I'm looking at. Um, those
15:05are the two names that I've seen Texan fans want. Now I saw a report also this morning
15:09that Seattle is expected to not franchise tag Kenneth Walker. The third it's expected that
15:16he'll hit free agency. So Schefter's just sort of speculating like, Hey, these are potential
15:20candidates. Seattle, the reports are Seattle is going to let Kenneth Walker hit the market.
15:25Which makes sense. Cause they already, they have Charbonneau and you know, how much are
15:29you going to end up paying both of your running backs to keep on it? So they'll try to develop
15:33somebody young and I, yeah, Kenneth Walker, the third, definitely in that bucket of guys
15:37I'd like the Texans to take a look at.
15:38Brees Hall also, I would imagine. Yeah. Yep. So there you go. Um, franchise tag day be good day.
15:44It feels festive out there. It feels like it's a party out there. It's cause the franchise tag is
15:49available. It's kind of like a franchise tag day is the president's day. What boxing day is to
15:54Christmas. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to Canada. Amy and I are going to traditional food
15:59for president's day. Uh, I don't know. I think kind of for the, I would go to the 4th of
16:03July
16:04fair. Hot dogs and hamburgers and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. As opposed to the traditional American diet
16:10where you rarely see a hamburger or a hot dog. Yeah. This is the day. Hey everybody. This is the
16:15day we eat, uh, hot dogs and hamburgers and have dessert. Yeah. It's a special day today.
