00:44or do y'all want to start with the uh the wild story what do you think local story get
00:48rid of
00:48the wild um i don't know i feel like i want to start with the cool story all right let's
00:53start
00:53with the cool story all right i'm gonna get to the cool story right here it's a local cool story
00:58and y'all know i love the good people at h town houston has some of the best people in
01:03the world
01:03here's a guy by the name of ben smith who went viral for helping the people over on the northwest
01:09side
01:10with something that been causing a lot of issues in that area and here is makina earnhardt of fox 26
01:18news
01:19with this story if you drive down pinemont drive on the northwest side near acres homes you already know
01:26this railroad crossing can be a complete nightmare and one guy actually went viral over it hey y'all
01:32see me houston texas we hold it up people out here tell me this crossing arm at pinemont near
01:39antwan breaks down at least twice a month gates stay stuck down traffic backs up for miles when there's
01:46no train in sight now last week ben smith he just got fed up he got out of his car
01:52manually lifted the 40
01:53pound crossing arm and held it over his head for two hours so drivers could get home but the time
01:59it went down people were trying to go to work trying to pick up their kids from uh daycare and
02:03stuff like that so that kind of gave me like more motivation to lift it longer because i didn't want
02:08them to have to cancel or be late to anything they were doing because this thing was down people were
02:12bringing him gatorades tipping him cash and his tick tock got over two million views now here's the kicker
02:18when drivers call the number on this box to report an issue they're quoted a five hour wait time i
02:25reached out to bnsf railway today they told me their gates drop as a fail safe for safety and warned
02:31people don't touch the equipment telling drivers to find an alternate route but they totally dodged
02:37why this happens twice a month or why the wait time takes five hours crazy crazy but salute to ben
02:44smith man shout out to ben smith that's big time this is the type of stuff that makes houston unique
02:49where it's just like okay you got people like that that's willing to hold up and that arm is ain't
02:54ain't light yeah and especially i don't care if it's 20 pounds much like 40 you're holding it up for
02:59two hours yeah you're holding up for that long yeah and the quiet part that we all know is it's
03:04not
03:04like he's holding it up here in uh in beautiful weather yeah my man's just standing in the heat holding
03:09up an
03:09arm yeah yeah so salute to him man these are the cool stories i love uh unfortunately i gotta get
03:16to
03:16the other story that's a local story and like i said i'm gonna i'm gonna say this again i love
03:21the
03:22good people in houston um there are some of the best people in the world but sometimes they be out
03:27here
03:27wild oh no so um here's a man a houston a houston man who was facing felony charges after being
03:34accused
03:35of threatening the governor's office and this audio is from kytx 19 and tyler a texas man is facing
03:44felony charges after being accused of threatening the governor's office it was all over an age
03:50restriction state lawmakers put into place on his favorite anime platform joseph osmond likes to watch
03:55anime on a website called crunchyroll he logged on a few weeks ago to watch a show but was met
04:00with
04:00this age restriction osmond says he tried to verify his age 35 years old but the restriction wouldn't
04:07go away that's when court documents say he allegedly called the governor's office i had a mental breakdown
04:13at the end of the day i allegedly left the voicemail i don't even remember what i saw the last
04:20couple
04:20years texas has passed a number of laws restricting access to adult content sb20 passed in 2025 was meant to
04:27cut back on animated and ai generated child pornography critics worried the broad law would
04:33impact anime websites like crunchyroll which osmond says is not an adult website according to a travis
04:40county arrest warrant osmond left this short but expletive filled voicemail on july 25th in which he
04:46allegedly said he would stab everyone if the age restriction was not removed to be honest i don't
04:52even feel like that was the exact words that i said i don't know i'd have to listen to the
04:57recording
04:58over again the arrest warrant says an employee in the governor's office notified law enforcement
05:02because they were alarmed and in fear for their safety osmond says someone tried to call him about
05:07the voicemail when he didn't call them back he was arrested at his home in houston i kept asking over
05:13and over what is this about what is going on why are we why are we even doing any of
05:17this osmond was booked
05:18into the travis county jail charged with impeding a public servant public fear of severe bodily injury
05:24and influence of government a third degree felony osmond has bonded out and returned to houston where
05:29he says he feels the state overstepped i'm not saying it's justified but two wrongs don't make a right
05:37that's a great use of that cliche that's such a good use of that cliche it's not going to help
05:42you at
05:42all my boy but that is hilarious but hey man what you mean you put me in jail two wrongs
05:46don't make a
05:46right but a lot of conflicting things going on here on the one hand don't ever do anything like
05:51that obviously they will arrest you uh he called them direct he had to find the number i would
05:57stab everybody in here i'm gonna stab everyone he said he said he had a mental break brother i
06:03couldn't tell you what the the line to the governor's office is i'd have to i'd have to go on
06:08the internet
06:08and find it but still you knew you knew what you was doing at the same time like yes don't
06:13ever do that
06:13stupid you will get arrested but at the same time you know this kid was a kid 35 this man
06:19this man
06:19no i think he's a kid as someone who's 34 i also believe he's a kid this man was just
06:23like out of sorts he even said i don't remember what i said i may have i'm gonna have to
06:28check the
06:28recording i gotta check the recording you know what it makes me tell me if you think that this is
06:32a
06:32fair comparison it feels like when you got some leftovers in the fridge and you were like man i can't
06:38wait to get to them leftovers and then you open the fridge and they're gone yeah and you just end
06:41up in a
06:42blind rate that's what it felt like he was like i can't wait to watch the new episode of my
06:45show
06:46let me just load up this crunchy roll why is it not letting me in well and then that's the
06:50other
06:51like so many different things going on at once here then i feel bad saying this no you don't
06:57i really don't but but like they they went after him with felony charges and all i know they can
07:03and i
07:04know you will get arrested if you make any threat like that's the law lopers i know but after that's
07:08why i
07:08feel a little bad doing this not really but you know they knew immediately this is just there wasn't
07:14an actual threat here yeah this is just some dude that loves his anime and lost his bleep and said
07:20a few
07:21things and yet there's still three different charges including a felony they should have just said like
07:25hey you know we could do this but we're just going to give you this you know i do i
07:31do wonder at the
07:32governor's office i wonder if they listen to this and like man they probably i wonder if they was
07:37laughing at it like yeah look at this fool man you know what let's let's pay him a visit right
07:42but
07:43they tried to call him this is the thing well that's and this is the question i have do you
07:46think that we
07:47go full full uh full extent of the law sound like the charges are there no but i'm saying do
07:53you think
07:53that they go all that if he answers the phone or gives them a call back i'm not sure if
07:57the answer
07:58is yes if or rather if the answer is no like i think that it's it's a possibility that they
08:02you
08:03know go ahead and do this whole thing but the fact that they called him and he was like i'm
08:06not calling
08:07them back do you think that that's what set them off where they're like well all right yeah we could
08:10we could throw the laws at you yeah no i think it's possible yeah that's like that's like a cop
08:15if a
08:15cop got to chase you you go on the jail yeah because they're not doing you making me run yeah
08:19yeah
08:19yeah nah you ain't about to make me come all the way over here and then let you go slap
08:24on the wrist
08:24you get one of these felonies that's right it's the mistake presented by sheriff injury lawyers
08:32on in the loop 95 7 the fan so uh i gotta give a special shout out lopez you mentioned
08:38how i like
08:39to do shout outs in the show i think i gotta give a special shout out to steven a smith
08:45what he won
08:46the thumbs down award at the national association uh broadcast uh black journalism yeah yeah it was in
08:53atlanta this this weekend yeah uh and here's how i won steven a smith sports analyst and political
09:01commentator smith has established a recurring public pattern of disparaging commentary directed
09:06at prominent black women across politics sports and media such commentary reinforces harmful
09:13narratives undermines the fair and respectful representation of black women in public discourse
09:17and stands in direct conflict with nabj's long-standing commitment to accurate responsible
09:24and inclusive portrayals of black communities so congratulations to steven a smith man i didn't
09:29even know this was a award i didn't either man i didn't either i can't tell you how hard i
09:34laughed
09:34at this i'm like is this real this and i'll need to double check because you know i have nabj
09:41associations
09:41i did not realize this was a thing they gave out and i'm like when did this start yeah because
09:45it's
09:46even better if they started this up just to give it to steven a smith like hey i don't think
09:50that
09:50that's the case but i would love that was the case it was like steven a you're so annoying that
09:53we
09:53don't give we don't create an award and it's called a thumbs down award and you are the recipient
09:58i've got to say i think this one probably smarts for steven a smith no no way i think so
10:02no way he's
10:03already come out and tweeted about oh i'm gonna have my response you're giving him more no i know but
10:08getting more the reason why i say that is did you see the back and forth that he had with
10:12mike
10:13wilbon oh about journalists yes because he he respects mike wilbon and he should mike wilbon
10:19well-respected journalist uh wilbon got there and was like cna smith isn't a journalist and to be
10:24fair wilbon said i'm not anymore correct yeah but him him one it is wilbon who i think steven a
10:30was like
10:31you you can't call me a journal i'm not a journalist unless you've been a journalist and wilbon has been
10:35yeah and so it's smarter for him because that is the and you know this at being having been a
10:40journalist that is you guys view that highly in yourself it's one of the reasons why i do not
10:44claim to be a journalist because i have not been and i know that it is something that is is
10:48honored
10:48and respected and so for him to get that get that one to the dagger to the chest like that
10:53i know that
10:54hurt and so this is a whole journalism organization being like boo you stink boo that's essentially what
10:59they did boo i think that hits you're feeding the beast is what you're doing that that's my take
11:06on it anyway he's gonna he's gonna take it and run and can we make it clear he he hasn't
11:10been a
11:10journalist for a long time like he's been an entertainer for a long time yeah i think he made
11:13michael wilbon's point to be honest yeah he did because like these shows and even like this show right
11:18here like i mean it's it's kind of it's a sports entertainment show and i know a lot of people
11:24get
11:25confused with oh y'all ain't doing good journalism that type of stuff like one of our jobs is to
11:30entertain correct it's not like you know uh being on the beat or something like that this is this is
11:36a little bit different you kind of in the middle a little bit right so um yeah i think i
11:41think michael
11:41wilbon made a good point and steven a is he is the show i can't wait to hear his response
11:47i think he's
11:47supposed to respond today you're gonna go listen to his response for real no but i will find it it'll
11:52be
11:52out this is clip worthy yes just show me the clip i ain't about to go to his youtube and
11:57nothing
11:58like that people have come at steven a and come at him and come at him and he always just
12:02thrives and
12:03by the way it's one of the reasons why he's no longer a journalist because you couldn't get in tit
12:07for tats with the with the people that you're supposedly covering i mean that's not something
12:10a journalist and all his others yeah yeah so uh congratulations on that thumbs down award thumbs
12:16down it's not they didn't even come up with a clever name for it they might as well they might
12:20really might as well have called it the boo award boo this man and uh to be honest i think
12:26i think they had like four other people in this category too oh really let me go look yeah i
12:30think
12:30he was one i ain't recognize the other ones but uh he was the one in there i'm like damn
12:35that's
12:35that is hilarious man all right i'll get y'all out of here on this so um first and foremost
12:43shout out
12:44to the powerball winner i guess yeah so it wasn't you guys huh no you guys didn't win yeah i
12:50was not
12:51in quincy illinois damn which is where the winner is uh i guess got the winning ticket yeah and i
12:59guess
13:00i guess this is a cool thing because a lot of places don't have this law where you have to
13:04show up for
13:05a press conference all that stuff illinois do not have that law so he will be gone in the wind
13:11it's it's honestly it's like you don't have to say you can refuse you know them identifying is
13:16one of those yeah okay you don't know that you won't be made public if you don't want to and
13:19i've
13:20seen people in those states where you do have to uh claim it pay someone off to claim it for
13:25them
13:25yeah yeah so that their identity does not have to be public which just makes me think you got
13:30cousins you're trying to hire for them huh you got i think people just don't want to be out there
13:35yeah like i definitely don't all of a sudden you become a target yes you know whether it's scammers
13:40or criminals or whatever yes or family or family yeah yeah most likely be family
13:45yeah so cousin yeah yeah let me hold 20 dollars somebody behold my dad hostage that's right i need
13:53250 million dollars been real dad wow what that's crazy i would never do that oh my goodness all right
14:08all right since he's taking us to this place there is a number what's the number what's the
14:12number where you're like i can't do it 250 million figgy you mean you win a billion and they asked
14:17for
14:17250 million how old your dad um 70 why are we doing this because you started it to be honest
14:24my dad
14:24will probably be you paid how much it'd be like man i live the good life yeah come on now
14:31it ain't my
14:32dad called me boogie yeah boogie take the money yes don't do this man i'm good man let them do
14:38whatever the hell they want to do to me that's crazy i'm good so that's the number 250 million there
