01:08Moonlight.
01:10First of all, there's going to be spoilers.
01:13I don't wanna hear it from you, okay?
01:15If you have not seen this film yet, where have you been?
01:19So Moonlight is a film written and directed by Barry Jenkins, loosely based on the semi-autobiographical
01:28play by Terrell Alvin McCraney, and the play's called In Moonlight, Black Boys Look Blue.
01:35Moonlight is a coming-of-age drama about Chiron living in Miami.
01:42His mother is like a crack addict, and he's all alone in the world.
01:47The movie is really divided into three different sections, the three stages of his life.
01:53So act one is childhood, and act two is his adolescence.
01:59Act three is Chiron as an adult.
02:03The adult Chiron is played by Chavonte Rhodes, who is fine.
02:11Fun fact, we actually went to the same university at the same time.
02:15I didn't know who he was, that's a failure on my part, okay?
02:19Because he could have been bae, and my life would be a lot different right now.
02:26Let's go back to the beginning though.
02:27In act one, we see baby Chiron, and you know, it's that innocent age where kids just want
02:35to be accepted.
02:36We see him running away from bullies, and he runs into an abandoned house, and that's where
02:40he meets Mahershala Ali.
02:43He plays the character Juan, and he is a drug dealer, right?
02:48But he is the most loving, tender character that Chiron ever comes in contact with.
02:57Mahershala Ali, kind of takes Chiron under his wing.
03:00Chiron goes home with Mahershala Ali, and I don't know if it's his girlfriend or his wife,
03:06it's played by Janelle Monae, who is also my wife.
03:10Would you look at that?
03:11Basically Chiron's been called the F word, right?
03:14F being the slur for gay people.
03:16And so at the dinner table, baby Chiron asks, what does the F word mean?
03:21And everybody goes silent.
03:23And so, Mahershala Ali basically says, the F word is what people say to make gay people
03:29feel bad.
03:30It's okay to be gay, don't ever let anybody call you the F word.
03:34Now we transition to act two, which is Chiron's adolescence.
03:39His mother is still a drug addict, right?
03:41And so he still hangs out with Janelle Monae.
03:44She is still like the only adult who's really looking out for this child, right?
03:51His adolescence is full of turmoil, the bullying has gone to like even more violent levels.
03:59So then, we meet Kevin, who is this boy in school that's really Chiron's only friend.
04:08But they have like a thing, right?
04:10And at this point, you don't know necessarily that Chiron is questioning his sexuality.
04:18But as he gets into his adolescence and like meets Kevin and hangs out with Kevin, you realize
04:23that oh, he feels a little something, something in his heart chakra, you know what I'm saying?
04:28Then we fast forward to act three, which is adult Chiron, played by Trevante Rhodes.
04:38And we find out that now he is a drug dealer in Atlanta.
04:42Very attractive one, but still.
04:44That's not the point.
04:45That's not the point.
04:46And guess who calls him out of nowhere?
04:49Girl.
04:50Kevin.
04:51They start to like rekindle at least their friendship.
04:53Shyron goes to Kevin's house.
04:58And he admits that he's never been intimate with anybody since that day on the beach when
05:05they were like fifteen.
05:07Adult Chiron leans over and they kinda hug each other.
05:11And then the movie ends.
05:12So I'm gonna go rinse this out, style my hair in the sink cause I need soaking wet hair.
05:17And I'll be back with my final review.
05:20I'm back.
05:24So I give Moonlight a smooth seven out of five stars.
05:31This rocked my whole entire world.
