00:00Hi, Naturally Curly World. I'm Gerilyn. Welcome to Watch and Go, the series where we review
00:05things that we've watched while doing our wash and goes. Today, I am going to do a review
00:12of the Netflix original docu-series, Rotten.
00:18If you don't know what's in your food, get out of the business.
00:22People will start to realize how wrong this is.
00:25Are anybody's hands clean in this whole thing?
00:27Nobody's hands are clean.
00:30If you eat food, this is an issue you need to worry about.
00:39Rotten is a Netflix original docu-series about our world's food supply chain.
00:50How farms, restaurants, corporations, individuals, how they all work together.
00:59And sometimes not together to get us all the food that we need.
01:03I found this particular docu-series compelling because I started watching it during our Naturally
01:13Curly No Sugar Challenge, which I failed one and a half days into it.
01:20I'm also going to talk about some of the products that I absolutely love.
01:27I have found these particular products to be the most moisturizing for my scalp and for my hair strands.
01:36So first up I have, and this is from one of my favorite brands of all of the times, Sunny Isle.
01:45It's the Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor Oil Extreme Hydration and Detangling Shampoo.
01:51Also, we have its sister here.
01:53It's the conditioner.
01:55Also, I have another all-time favorite.
01:59It is Clear Ice from Ampro.
02:02I'm going to go ahead and wash my hair and then come back to show you some more steps with my wash and go.
02:10I've just come back from washing my hair with the shampoo and also I put in the conditioner.
02:21Let's get into rotten.
02:22As a consumer of food products, I think that it's very important for all of us to understand where our food comes from.
02:30I'm not one of those people that will go to a restaurant and, you know, force the waiter or waitress to tell me precisely where the chicken was raised.
02:40But I do like having a general knowledge of what I'm actually putting in my body.
02:46So when I saw this Netflix docu-series flashing through my feed, I was like, that looks interesting to me.
02:55So I went ahead and I pressed play and the very first episode is called Lawyers, Guns, and Honey.
03:03And if that doesn't spark interest, I don't know what will.
03:07I found it incredibly informative in this particular episode was they educate you about adulterated honey.
03:16Honey that is imported to the United States and it has half real honey and half syrup, rice syrup.
03:28And I was like, wait a minute.
03:30So how do I know if the honey that's in my cabinet is real or not?
03:36A lot of the people that are bee farmers and people that actually extract the honey and put it and process it and give it to us,
03:44they need to be local because not only is it better for you,
03:50but some of the honey that we've been getting has been mixed with syrup.
03:55So you're thinking that you're getting this amazing product from bees.
03:59You're thinking that it's all natural when in fact it's being completely adulterated.
04:05And that's not cool in my book.
04:07That's, that's far out there.
04:09They have another one that I thought was particularly savage.
04:12And man, this one is about chicken.
04:15I don't know about you, but I love chicken.
04:19I like it grilled.
04:21I like it broiled.
04:23I like it fried, especially.
04:26They actually visit chicken growers, people that actually raise chickens for a living.
04:33And in addition to chickens being commodity, being a source of economic gain for these people, these particular people that are raising chickens actually care about the chickens.
04:49It was, it was, it was astounding to me how emotionally involved these people actually were when it came to providing a product.
05:02And in this case, it is chickens, a product that is healthy, that is safe and that people can enjoy.
05:08Right.
05:09But y'all like you have to watch it.
05:11It will change the way that you think about purchasing poultry and other meats because there's one particular moment in this episode that talks about how two of these chicken razors, chicken growers and their surrounding communities.
05:33They had their chicken coops burnt down, like burnt down to the ground.
05:39Like it's that real.
05:40It brings up all these moral questions about how we raise food, how we consume food.
05:49If you have seen it, talk to me because I have a lot of questions.
05:52I'm about to step off camera because I need to get my hair sopping wet.
05:58Uh, the reason why is because I'm going to put this gel in there.
06:03Um, and in order to get my curls to actually shine and elongate, I want to mix both the water and the gel.
06:11If I just do, uh, the gel mixture right now, I'm gonna have a finger coil.
06:15I'm gonna have to band who not.
06:16And like, I don't have time for that.
06:18This is a wash and go.
06:19I'm trying to make it as real as possible.
06:22So that's what I'm about to do right now.
06:24I'll be right back.
06:28Okay, y'all.
06:29So I am back.
06:31As you can see, I've got a lot of product in my hair.
06:36And that's all right.
06:37That's actually what you want.
06:38I took like a hearty scoop of this gel.
06:43I didn't do a scrunch cause I have nothing to scrunch.
06:46I did a squish.
06:47You like, you gotta, oh, you gotta get that product into every single hair strand.
06:52Otherwise, you're just gonna have clumped up weird looking curls and you're gonna get mad at me.
06:57Cause you was like, you told me to scrunch.
06:59I didn't tell you to scrunch.
07:00I told you to squish.
07:01Once this all dries, it's gonna need some help.
07:04I'm gonna need to add some shine back.
07:07It's definitely gonna have a lot of shine.
07:10I'm not terribly worried about that, but it's gonna lose maybe about 60% of the kind of glossy effect.
07:20So what I do to add more is spray on my Shine On Curl Elixir from Jane Carter.
07:27I do my...
07:29Okay, that's what I do.
07:31Let me know if you've seen Rotten.
07:33I really think it's one of those Netflix series that will withstand the test of time.
07:40I also think it's one that's gonna get a lot of people talking and thinking about the food supply chain, how we consume, how we source our food, how animals are being treated, and really just kind of open up a new conversation across the board.
07:56So just for that, I'm going to give this series four out of five stars.
08:02I still have a lot of questions about international types of trade, international food consumption.
08:12I think a lot of this, they tried to pull in the import and export information, which they did a great job of, don't get me wrong, but I don't think that it should just have like this American lens.
08:25So tell me, have you seen Rotten?
08:28Go ahead and comment below and let me know.
