00:00Hey Naturally Curly World! I'm Nikki and welcome to Watch and Go, the series where
00:04we review things that we've watched and we do our wash and go. I'm gonna be
00:08reviewing the Netflix series Girlboss. While I do that I will be washing my
00:16hair with the As I Am Cleansing Pudding. Then I'll follow it out with like my
00:20favorite weave-in conditioner. This is the Brown Butter Beauty Sweet Milk
00:24Detangling Weave-In. And then this is a new product to me. It's the Kristen S
00:29Hydrating Curl Defining Cream. So I'm gonna give this a try.
00:59So what exactly is your business? You know how people flip houses? Well I flip clothes.
01:06Boom! Dollar dollar bills y'all! Okay so I just got through shampoo and conditioning
01:16with the As I Am Cleansing Pudding. It smells really good and I think it
01:20cleansed my hair and conditioned it. I'm gonna do what I usually do take my hair
01:24down and section it. Okay so I went into this you know thinking this gonna be dumb.
01:31I don't care too much about Sofia Amorosa. Amorosu? I don't even know how to say her name.
01:37And now I feel bad because y'all have seen me on Watch and Go so much and all I
01:42have done was complain about the movies I've seen except for like maybe two
01:45Watch and Go's. And it's not my fault. People requested me to see Girlboss and so
01:51you know I did it thinking this gonna be bad. And it was bad y'all. Girlboss is bad.
01:58It's 13 30-minute episodes and I'm not gonna lie to you. I fast-forwarded through a lot
02:05of them episodes. Girlboss the TV series is the basically the story of Sofia Amorosu,
02:12the founder of Nasty Gal. So a little backstory about Nasty Gal and maybe Girlboss
02:19because she wrote she wrote Girlboss the book before it became a series based on
02:23her experience coming up as a young female entrepreneur in the world of
02:27fashion. She made millions of dollars. She was really influential because she
02:33started this little thing from nothing on eBay. She was selling stuff that she
02:36got from a thrift store online for way more than what she paid. She realized this
02:41could be a business and she made it happen. So Nasty Gal blew up. It became a
02:45really popular online site for people to buy clothes. Stuff happens. Eventually she
02:50stepped down as CEO of Nasty Gal. Nasty Girl filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
02:56That ain't in the series. You gonna have to do your research. In 2006, Sofia, budding
03:02entrepreneur, girl who couldn't keep a job, had her own one-bedroom apartment in San
03:08Francisco. You're not broke if you have your own one-bedroom apartment in San
03:11Francisco. So that's just how we start off the series. Right there and I was like, okay,
03:14she ain't as poor as people made a scene. People were like, oh she came from
03:18nothing. It's like, I don't know if nothing is a one-bedroom apartment in San
03:23Francisco. You know, all that aside, money doesn't make a person. You know what I'm
03:26saying? She could have a really nice apartment in San Francisco in a trash car
03:30and be a good human being. You know, sweet, kind. That ain't her. She's like
03:35incredibly annoying and like really whiny and entitled and she walks around like
03:42she owns the world and I think they want you to find her endearing. I think they
03:48want you to be like, oh she's kind of like repulsive but that's cool. She's a
03:50rebel. She's a riled one. She's a millennial. She doesn't follow the rules and
03:54like, you know how they say millennials are like spoiled and whiny. We don't know
03:57how to work. She was that and I was looking at her like, that's not me. I'm a
04:02millennial and I work. I work hard. She got away with it because she was a cute
04:05privileged white girl. Sorry if that offends y'all but that's literally what
04:09it was. As the episodes go on, she doesn't improve and you don't feel like
04:15she's endeared herself to you. You don't feel like, oh I kind of like her
04:20now. I get her. I see why she's so angry and disrespectful to people and she
04:23doesn't care about authority. She doesn't care about rules. It's because, you know, her
04:27dad or her mom or XYZ. You find those things out and you're just kind of like, I
04:30don't, I still have nothing for you girl because I have nothing for you. I think
04:35they wanted us to see that her success was all due to her self-starting, you
04:38know, attitude and her willingness to break the rules and be different but to me
04:43her success was really kind of just like luck. If it's about being a woman
04:48starting your own business, what I get from this is be lucky, be incredibly rude,
04:52take your people for granted. She had a really good friend in the show and she
04:57treated her like crap the entire series. The girl asked for a job after she was
05:01already doing work for Nasty Gal for free and Sophia was like, no, there's no place
05:07for it for you. Don't ever be my friend because you will get punched in the face so
05:11fast. I'm not going to be taking up your invoice and shipping your clothes out and
05:14then you're going to tell me there's no job for me when you can clearly pay my rent and
05:17salary. No boo. So family wise, her mom left her, which is sad. Like her mom left her
05:23ones that she was really young so she didn't really know her mom. She tried to
05:26paint her dad as unsupportive because he was asking her questions. He would be
05:31like, you got a job? How's your relationship? And of course he would get
05:37disappointed with her when it seemed like she wasn't doing or she wasn't on the
05:40right path. Who wouldn't? Like if your dad didn't get disappointed when you were
05:43like, oh yeah, I ain't got a job dad. Ha ha ha. Then your dad don't care about you. She
05:47couldn't get a lease and her dad was like, cool, I'll co-sign it for you. After she
05:52presented him a business plan, a business plan she didn't even put
05:56together. Again, she didn't work hard for this. Somebody put a business plan
05:59together. She was all like, uh, pie charts, bar graphs, uh, I don't wanna. So she
06:06presented this to her dad and he was like, cool, I'll co-sign for you can get the
06:09space. That was about to go down but then her dad was like, I'm putting the
06:12lease in my name. And she was like, oh, deal's off. Pride cometh before fall. That's all I'm
06:17saying. Cometh before fall. Okay, I'm gonna put the curl cream in my hair even
06:22though this does such a good job. If you have hair like mine, you really don't need
06:25more than this leave-in conditioner but, and you know, that's that. That's my wash
06:29and go. That looks great, I think. I'm gonna let this air dry. I'm not gonna diffuse.
06:34Okay, I just remember while watching Girlboss being incredibly frustrated and I
06:38thought for this series to be about a woman starting on business as a young
06:43millennial coming up in the world, I thought it would be more inspired and felt
06:48empowered like I did when I watched Wonder Woman. I mean, even The Devil Wears Prada.
06:54That chick worked hard. She worked her butt off for the fake Anna Wintour. So if you, if
07:00you found that the book was different, more inspiring, more empowering, let me know in
07:03the comments below. For me, this show sucked. I'm gonna give it a 1 out of 5 stars. I don't
07:09feel bad about that. It is what it is.
07:13Okay, so it's my birthday! Oh my god! And I'm a supreme queen here in saying I myself am a girl boss and as a girl boss, I thought I'd give you a little something on my birthday.
