00:00okay next big change is repentance actually repentance actually means to
00:05change change our mind change our direction first miss
00:10of jesus mark chapter one the time is fulfilled the kingdom of god is at hand
00:15repent and believe the gospel repent turn around
00:20turn from your sins believe the gospel believe the good news follow jesus the messiah
00:25say the greek word for repentance is metanoia which means to change your
00:30mind to change your thinking so it comes in line with god's thinking
00:35hebrew word is teshuvah which means to change your direction you're going in one direction turn around and go
00:40the opposite direction going away from god turn to go towards god
00:45i guess david have been going away from god and then he encouraged himself in the lord
00:50and he turned around and began to go god's way god's always calling us right through
00:55our lives to repent to turn to him because all the time we can
01:00continually fall short of the glory of god so it's a process it's not just a one-off thing when you
01:05become a christian something which goes right through your life
01:07and the next chapter
01:10chapter 17 it says the times of ignorance
01:11god overlooked but now he commands all people everywhere to
01:15repent because he's appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he's
01:19ordained
01:20given assurance of this by tracing him from the dead
01:25One of the reasons why we should repent is because there's a day coming when God's going to judge us.
01:30He's going to judge us on how many good deeds or bad deeds we've done.
01:32He's going to judge us on how we've responded to the message.
01:35Repent, believe the gospel.
01:40He's now commanding all people everywhere.
01:42He's not suggesting it.
01:43He's commanding it.
01:45He's applying this to everybody in the whole world.
01:50So that's the way in which we can overcome.
01:55And continue in the faith.
01:58Philippians, he has begun a good work in...
02:00...and you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
02:03I've said this before.
02:05That once you become a Christian, you haven't reached the conclusion.
02:08You've reached the starting point.
02:10Continue in the faith.
02:11Continue in the faith until you're going to be with the Lord.
02:15And whoever's begun...
02:16If he's begun a good work in you, his desire is to bring it to you.
02:20...to completion in the day of Jesus Christ.
02:24One of the ways we do...
02:25...this is to continue in fellowship.
02:28Let's read in Acts 2.
02:30They continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship.
02:35Breaking of bread and in prayers.
02:38If you want to be discouraged...
02:40...then break off doing those things.
02:42Sooner or later, your faith will become...
02:45...weak.
02:45You'll stop believing the things which you used to believe.
02:48You'll stop putting them in practice.
02:50We need to meet together with one another.
02:51We need to build up our faith.
02:53We need to strengthen ourselves in the...
02:55...of the Lord.
02:56They continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine.
02:58The apostles...
03:00...not added teachings from the church...
03:02...which have come in later, as I spoke about last week.
03:05We have to teach the things which are written in the New Testament, in the Scriptures.
03:10...and continue in those things.
03:13Philippians...
03:15...to do things, all things, all things without complaining and disputing that you may...
03:20...become blameless and harmless children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
03:25...among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice...
03:30...in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or laboured in vain.
03:35Next point, positive...
03:40...the word of confession, word of faith.
03:43Our words do have power, and if we speak...
03:45...seeking out negative words, discouraging words, lack of faith words...
03:50...it actually works in our lives to cause us to lose faith and to be discouraged.
03:55Romans 10 says, what does it say?
03:57The word is near you in your mouth and in your heart.
03:59That's the word of faith.
04:00...which we preach, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised...
04:05...and from the dead you will be saved.
04:07...with the heart one believes unto righteousness, with the mouth confess...
04:10...and confession is made unto salvation.
04:12So the more that we confess positive words and words...
04:15...about salvation, the more that we're building up ourselves and encouraging ourselves in the Lord.
04:20...more that we express discouraging words and doubt words as they're doing in...
04:25...Canterbury Cathedral right now.
04:27You're discouraging people from going on with the Lord.
04:29So in...
04:30...the very opposite of what the church should be doing.
04:33We should be encouraging ourselves...
04:35...
04:36...
04:37...
04:38...
04:39...
04:40...
04:41...
04:42...
04:43...
04:44...
04:45...
04:46...
04:48...
04:50...
04:52...
04:53...
04:54...
04:56...
04:57...
04:58...
05:00...
05:02...
05:04...
05:06...
05:08...
05:10...
05:12...
05:14...
05:16...
05:17...
05:18...
05:20...
05:21...
05:22...
05:23...
05:24...
05:26...
05:28...
05:30...
05:37...
