Transcript
00:00West Indies skipper Shay Hope is looking forward to the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
00:22The Windies play their opener against Scotland on February 7th in Kolkata.
00:26Hope says in order for the Caribbean side to lift the trophy,
00:29they have to improve in all departments.
00:31I just think execution with both, well all three facets of the game,
00:35especially from a bowling standpoint,
00:37when we find ourselves in pressure situations,
00:40the better we execute and the better we hold our nerve.
00:44I think that's going to be the defining factor of how many games we win and lose.
00:49From a batting standpoint, as you mentioned,
00:51dot balls have been our Achilles heel for quite some time.
00:55And it's important that as batters, as long as we limit those dot balls,
00:58and we've naturally got power hitters, guys who score freely and know how to get boundaries.
01:04So if we can limit those dot balls with the boundaries,
01:06then we're going to give ourselves the best chance of maximising runs and scoring big totals,
01:11or chasing anything that teams put on the board.
01:14Western East coach Darren Sammy was the captain when the men in Maroon won the T20 World Cup in 2016.
01:20As such, Hope says the players can learn from Sammy since he knows about winning on Indian soil.
01:26It's great to have him around and someone who's been there, had success all the way, lifting the trophy.
01:34We've also got Johnson Charles who's been part of that team as well.
01:38So some experience in the dressing room, Jason Hall, I think he was part of that as well.
01:42So a lot of experienced guys who've been there have that feeling of getting all the way across in line.
01:48So it's something that we can always use as a unit, transfer all of that information.
01:53We know it's going to be slightly different. Cricket, I would say cricket is evolving a bit more.
01:58Things have changed, different things we need to focus on a bit more.
02:02But it's always good to have that experience and that feeling, that winning feeling within the camp.
02:08Coach Sammy has said the Windies are capable of winning their third T20 World Cup title on the subcontinent.
02:14Speaking of which, he says there are certain similarities between the 2016 squad and the present one.
02:21To see the progression, you know, when I look at that squad now with, you see Rothman Powell, Hetmeier, Chase,
02:32the skipper Hope, Matthew Ford, Shepard, all the all-rounders we have.
02:38It reminds me of that team that we had in 2016 in terms of the firepower.
02:44Besides the Scots, the others in the group with the Windies are England, Italy and Nepal.
02:50I have had a much better light for it as you can see as sir and more.
02:52I would like to see the Australian people would love the
03:09solution to the centre side.
03:12In 2016, the ilysses operate.
