00:00Guyana is all set for the second edition of the Global Super League, which is a T20 tournament.
00:05It bowls off on Thursday with a doubleheader at the Providence Stadium, with matches at 10am and 7pm.
00:11Guyana-based cricket journalist John Ramsey says the tournament has an international flavour attached to it.
00:18In terms of what kind of excitement you can expect at Providence for the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League,
00:24it's T20 cricket all over again.
00:26So with T20 cricket you get excitement on field.
00:30Because the players bring the vibe, so to speak, in cricket.
00:34Providence behind me, you can see, is pretty much ready for the action.
00:37The teams that are well stacked up from around the world definitely bring in their A-games
00:42because they are champions from the respective T20 leagues, their domestic leagues,
00:47and they're coming to compete to see who really is the best in the world.
00:50So that sort of brings out the exciting aspect of the Global Super League.
00:55The host nation will be represented by the Guyana Alzon Warriors,
00:58who won the Republic Bank's CPL in 2023.
01:02According to Ram Singh, Guyanese fans are sure to have a whale of a time from July 10th to the 18th,
01:08that being the day of the final.
01:09Well, cricket in Guyana don't happen often, especially at this type of level.
01:15We have CPL, which comes once a year.
01:18We do not have a lot of international cricket otherwise.
01:21So now that the Global Super League is here,
01:23this certainly is going to bring the fans back to Providence.
01:26Fans really want to see this exciting form of cricket, international players, world-renowned players.
01:33Despite being T20, a lot of persons have their reservations about T20 cricket.
01:37This format, this tournament, certainly bringing our Guyanese fans to Providence
01:42because they want to see the best of the best take on each other in fantastic style, world-renowned venue.
01:49This is going to just get better and better.
01:51He says a tournament of such magnitude means all eyes will be on this region.
01:56That, in turn, he says, is going to make the game more popular, resulting in a win-win situation.
02:02People will gravitate to what is the Caribbean brand, what we call Calypso cricket and so on.
02:08So that cricket, people want to see when they see the Guyanese team lined up the Amazon Warriors.
02:12They want to see some of the Caribbean players as well.
02:14So this type of cricket, the Global Super League, is actually showcasing Guyanese and the Caribbean
02:21because everyone wants to see why the Caribbean is so rich in talent,
02:26what is really so special about cricket in the Caribbean.
02:29The five teams in the tournament are central districts from New Zealand, Dubai Capitals,
02:35Guyanese and Amazon Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes and defending champions, Rangpur Riders.
