00:00Wore this in Dallas and the butt ripped so front row got an interesting view.
00:05When I was in high school I served a detention for a cleavage violation.
00:08I wanted to take the waist in a little bit, make my shoulders look a little bit broader so I can skip the gym some more.
00:30Hi, I'm Luke from Voila and welcome to Stage Threads.
00:42Today I'm going to walk you through some of my clothes that I've been wearing on this Magic Word Tour.
00:46Yeah, it's really exciting to talk fashion with you.
00:48I think I've always had an affinity for it and an allergy to buttons.
00:52As a matter of fact, when I was in high school I served a detention for a cleavage violation.
00:57I'm the only one who ever served that as a guy because I just refused to button up my shirt.
01:01I feel like some of that is coming from like Steven Tyler, Rod Stewart,
01:05but also just a lot of the books and movies that I loved to consume as a kid.
01:09I definitely got into all sorts of different fantasy books, fantasy movies,
01:13and I feel like a lot of those characters were always on horseback or even like Fabio on my mom's old romance books.
01:19Those kind of things I saw and I was like, this is really interesting to me.
01:24And I feel like that translates to the music with Voila being all magic themes.
01:31I feel like magicians, Criss Angel, all the way down to Houdini,
01:34have always had an air for showmanship, for sparkle, for ruffles and frills.
01:39And I feel like that is kind of always how I've dressed.
01:42I don't even wear sweatpants and t-shirts in my own life.
01:44I always feel better in my own skin when I'm dressed up in the way that I feel the best version of me.
01:51I was fortunate my first introduction into entertainment was through modeling.
01:54And so I kind of really got lucky.
01:56Someone was looking out for me from above and got me into all of these fashion houses.
02:00And I kind of just picked things apart and kind of brought them into the Voila space.
02:04Voila, everything's about magic and magicians.
02:06And that's definitely where I take influence.
02:08I think of Criss Angel, I think of all the way back to Houdini.
02:10But a lot of it is like the Regency era, if I think of like the golden age of Bridgerton, so to speak.
02:17And then also pirates.
02:19So if we go over here.
02:21All right.
02:21So I tried to do a different outfit for every night of this tour, which was a nice thought, but it's been a little bit harder in execution.
02:27But this is kind of what we've got going on for the rest of the tour.
02:31This particular piece I like.
02:33This is like a Regency era kind of think Bridgerton pirate type situation.
02:39I think that might make it to my hometown show in Milwaukee.
02:43I like it a lot because it's a combination of fabrics.
02:45We have a velvet and then we have this nice little like, I don't think that's like a paisley.
02:51But yeah, it's really cool.
02:52And it's a long coat.
02:53It's kind of like the daughter to this one.
02:55Move over here.
02:56We've got this beautiful velvet and it's got these high collars that'll pop out.
03:00I love the detailing there.
03:01I think that's really nice.
03:03I might cut this zipper out because I'm not a big fan of zippers.
03:07I'm definitely more of a button person, but I feel like these little almost military buttons and this little like decolletage situation here.
03:16It's kind of cool.
03:17I love things on the lapels.
03:19I think that's always really nice.
03:20It kind of breaks it up, especially on stage when you have the light hitting different parts.
03:24It kind of makes something that's solid black look a little bit more interesting.
03:29This is actually from the lovely city of Chicago.
03:31I had to get it tailored, brought it in here.
03:35But that's kind of like your classic Admiral pirate vibe, which I think deep down I really want to be a pirate.
03:44And then it's a little sister over here.
03:47It's a little more Disney Prince-ish.
03:49This would probably go with white pants and that's like a real Admiral type coat.
03:55And that's kind of like the dichotomy I'm going for, really, is this like as if a Disney Prince was stuck on a pirate ship for a long time.
04:04It allows me to kind of grunge things up nicely and it's just a nice history.
04:10And that's kind of my love of literature has always been from fantasy and historical fantasy, historical romance.
04:17So this allows me to be a character and quite frankly, I don't love just being in front of the camera as me.
04:23So this allows me to be voila.
04:26And then this bottom row is definitely my magpie tendencies.
04:34This is really cool.
04:35I like this a lot.
04:36This is probably one of the nicer pieces I brought with me.
04:40I feel like this is red carpet ready.
04:42But I love this detailing.
04:45And the back shows the same.
04:49But this would catch the light really nice.
04:51I like that a lot.
04:53It's just a standard suit coat length.
04:57Not quite the long coats that we see on the top, but that leaves room for belts.
05:02This one here is a two-piece.
05:06So this is the pants on the top.
05:09This is a blue, which I do like.
05:10It's one of my favorite colors.
05:12But this is these awesome little sequins.
05:15This detailing is really cool.
05:17And we've got the double lapel, which I like.
05:20I wore this in Dallas and the butt ripped.
05:23So the front row got an interesting view for a while.
05:28This one I got from a tailor online.
05:30This is a three-piece suit.
05:32It's got the vest as well.
05:33I think it's really nice.
05:34Love these buttons.
05:35How cool is that?
05:36This guy is really talented.
05:39He did all the measuring over zoom with me.
05:41And I have so much respect for designers.
05:45And that's actually kind of how I got into this whole thing is started my career in entertainment
05:49as a model doing runway and fashion and seeing the way that not only the designers work,
05:57but also the tailors and how important it is to get something nice and tailored.
06:00And the fabrics that you're working with are so important with how it moves.
06:03These things can look good on mannequins, but guys have to look good on moving bodies.
06:08This last piece, it's pretty wild.
06:11This one I might wear tonight.
06:14But wow, that's a brave choice.
06:18Got like a double-sided little sequin action and a silky little lapel.
06:25But yeah, we'll see if I'm feeling bold.
06:29But all this stuff is great, but it doesn't last the whole show because it's quite warm.
06:33It's really like thicker coats.
06:35So I like to do layers and that's where this comes in.
06:39And this is kind of where it all...
06:41Actually, this is the shirt where it all started.
06:44This really felt like a Lord of the Rings shirt and it's actually my mother's.
06:51And once I got over the tough guy portion of wearing my mother's shirt,
06:54I was kind of keyed into the look.
06:57But this is cool.
06:58It reminds me a lot of just like classic stage magic, right?
07:03And that's what Boilas is all about.
07:05This lace detailing, the frills, loose cuffs.
07:09I love this little mother of pearl, little button inlay.
07:12Pearl is my favorite stone.
07:14I try to find that in a lot of stuff.
07:16Yeah, a lot of these suits really aren't expensive suits.
07:18A lot of them are thrifted.
07:19Some of them are just kind of found in little corners of the internet.
07:22But I think what makes a suit look nice is the tailoring.
07:25So all of these I have a tailor next to where I live and I definitely try to keep him in business.
07:30But I take a suit to him all the time.
07:33He gets it done in a day because I'm very last minute.
07:35And then, yeah, like this one here I think is really cool.
07:38This actually comes from someone in Chicago, but it did not fit super well.
07:43So I wanted to take the waist in a little bit, make my shoulders look a little bit broader
07:48so I can skip the gym some more.
07:50And yeah, now we've got this working out.
07:53So this is where I would get into like the underlayering.
07:58These are some awesome see-through little lace tops.
08:04And they have ruffles too and the high collars, which I like a lot.
08:07But those will pair with any of these suits, which is nice.
08:11I'd probably go like that or I really like a black and white situation.
08:15So I'd probably go here or there.
08:19This is a cool shirt.
08:22This one doesn't have buttons at all.
08:23It's just a low V.
08:24And I would throw a vest on that puppy.
08:28And all of a sudden you're playing in like elf territory.
08:34Cool.
08:36This is asymmetry, which I just love.
08:39This is like one of my favorite things.
08:43Same with this.
08:45This has like a nice little asymmetrical tie, which I think is really cool.
08:49It also has some glitter on it, like a gauze.
08:53Yeah, it's just neat.
08:54That's what caught my eye.
08:55Oh, I have no idea.
08:56Some sort of thrift store.
08:58Looks like it's on my mom would have worn too.
09:02Thanks, mom.
09:04Then this stuff is my favorite.
09:06I have these.
09:07I have like three of each of these.
09:10But they're similar to the see-through shirts or even to the one that I'm wearing now with
09:15the ruffles.
09:16But these have little rhinestones on them.
09:20Yeah, so this would look so cool.
09:23Take this rhinestone jacket off and he had this underneath.
09:28Yeah, that's what I would do.
09:31Well, this is like these white lace tops like this and this.
09:36I feel like if you put this under a black suit, you get that like old school conductor
09:40with a tail coat type look.
09:43Very magic.
09:45This one is, I haven't worn this one yet, but this is like a tuxedo shirt.
09:53Yeah, maybe this will get its appearance tonight.
09:56We'll see.
09:57And then, of course, the most important part is your belts.
10:02The one I wear the most is this lion belt that I got on our spin the bottle tour last
10:07year.
10:08It's got this little sister here.
10:09But I've got a bunch.
10:11I've got some brown belts.
10:12These are all cool thrift store finds.
10:15This I got in Germany.
10:16It's this belt maker.
10:18All of these amazing handmade little buckles.
10:22This one's very like Norse Viking, Scandinavian heritage.
10:27And this is like probably my favorite.
10:30This quintessential big old pirate belt.
10:32This you could wear like this.
10:34You could wear over the shoulder.
10:36Really, yeah, Will Turner vibe.
10:40And then, I do like a scarf belt.
10:43I've kind of always done this.
10:44This started when I was in, I was doing modeling war and I would go from LA to New York in the
10:50winter.
10:51And in LA, it was quite warm.
10:52So I get like a thinner scarf and I wear it around my neck.
10:54When I was going through the airport, they make you take your belt off.
10:56My pants would fall down.
10:57So I started tying a scarf around instead of a metal belt so I could get through security.
11:01And it just kind of became something I do.
11:03I love a handkerchief too.
11:06Silk handkerchief.
11:07You can tie it around your wrist.
11:09You can tie it around the belt loop.
11:11But yeah, it gives it a little more character, which I like.
11:15And then, of course, jewelry.
11:17It's just kind of my tattoos.
11:18I'm always picking up new pieces.
11:20I have to wear less rings when I play guitar because they get caught.
11:23But yeah, I've kind of always been picking up little pieces.
11:26I've got this one on this tour.
11:29It's Latin and it says, as wise as the serpent and as innocent as the dove.
11:34Which means, to me, I have an old soul but a young heart.
11:37Yeah, I mean, when it comes to thrifting in general, a lot of the stuff is really just hidden.
11:44You kind of just have to enjoy going to thrift stores in general.
11:47I've never had success at a place that I thought was going to be successful.
11:51They're usually in places you don't expect it because you're really going through people's
11:55grandparents' clothing to find this stuff, especially with the vintage stuff.
11:58But also, costuming stores are really good.
12:00I mean, most of this is just costumes.
12:02And yeah, so I mean, around Halloween time is a great time to start poking around.
12:06I have luxury living in Los Angeles, so there's a lot of costume shops and estate sales.
12:10And a lot of these estate sales are from people who are in costuming.
12:13So as long as you are willing to dig and make a day out of it, you'll probably find some good stuff.
12:17For boots, I just have this one pair with me because I wear a size 14.
12:22And so this takes up a lot of suitcase space.
12:24So these have been holding up with a little bit of super glue for the entire tour.
12:29But normally I do love boots.
12:30I have a lot of different boots.
12:31I'm also an equestrian, so I have a lot of like Ariat boots, old like British English riding boots.
12:36And once those get worn into and broken into, they look really cool.
12:39But they take up a lot of space.
12:42For pants, I usually have black dress pants.
12:44Or these black dickies are really nice because they're a little bit thicker.
12:47I get down on my knees a lot during the show or climb things.
12:51And these are really resistant to tearing on like my Dallas pants, as we talked about.
12:56So I like these a lot.
12:57They're nice wide-legged and they're pretty much indestructible.
13:00I've got these in black and white and same with the dress pants.
13:03But yeah, I've kind of keyed into the dickies for a while now.
13:07Well, I have to go to Soundcheck.
13:08It was nice talking with you guys.
13:09If you want to hear more about my band, Voila, you can check it out anywhere you stream music
13:13or anywhere you consume social media.
13:14Cheers, guys.
