06:42When our team gets out there on offense, you got four defensive linemen up front,
06:53and you have seven men within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage every time.
07:00How do you defeat that?
07:03You get two wide receivers, and you have them run go routes every single play.
07:09You got to get these guys off of the line of scrimmage.
07:12You got to get them outside of 10 yards in order to clear space for people to run.
07:18When Prince Saul went out, I knew that we had no chance of winning that game
07:23because he was the only guy that could get over it.
07:27He was the only guy that could stretch the field like he did in game one.
07:32Shanahan continually does things he tries to do on his terms, his way.
07:37And if he doesn't have the horses in the table, he's not doing it at all.

11:04So if you want to go ahead and, I don't know, max protect,
11:07which would mean you have seven blockers and you've got Brock,
11:10so now you've got three people in the route,
11:12and they're going to have seven guys covering,
11:15you're not going to catch them off guard.
11:17And, oh my God, they're going to go max protect,
11:20and here goes Sky Moore down the field.
11:22We'll go ahead and just let him go.
11:23So this offense doesn't do that, and this defense that you faced,
11:27they were damn near flawless.
11:30Where you caught it, they tackled, you had a contested throw,
11:34they came up and hit you and broke you up,
11:36and other than that, they got after your quarterback with four all night.
11:40I mean, I want to pass something along from someone who means a lot to me
11:44and is also listening right now.
11:45My father-in-law, Lincoln Morita, apparently is listening to us,
11:48and we were talking after breakfast this morning,
11:50and he and I see very, very eye-to-eye on this,
11:53but I know today is not a day for this kind of an opinion.
11:56Maybe later in the week we'll get to it,
11:59but, like, when you look at a performance like that on Saturday,
12:04I find it hard to divorce myself from what we were all thinking halfway through the year,
12:12and even before this game.
12:15Everybody said, man, it'd be amazing with all of this if they could just make the playoffs.
12:20It would be incredible if they could just make the playoffs.
12:25And I looked at the schedule, and the Niners play the Eagles this weekend,
12:30and it doesn't feel incredible.
12:35It doesn't feel incredible to a lot of you because we've arrived at this spot
12:39where, like, sort of an unfair carrot got dangled in front of our face.
12:45That's the way I look at it.
12:47The one seed was dangled in front of our face.
12:49The Niners are not the one seed.
12:52They're not.

12:56They could have been, but that would have been a true miracle.

13:32Then you beat Arizona.
13:34They're terrible.
13:35You beat Carolina at home.
13:36They're a team with a losing record.
13:38I know they're a playoff team.
13:39You beat Cleveland, and Cleveland had a rookie QB making his first ever start,
13:45and that was the end of a long road before the bye.
13:48You beat Tennessee.
13:49They're terrible.
13:50You beat a grandfather in Indy.
13:52You beat Chicago.
13:53Very impressive win against a good team,
13:56and it took every last ounce of everything to do that.
13:59And then Seattle, who now is the odds-on favorite to win the Super Bowl,
14:03they came in, and they beat you.
14:05So between the Ram loss and the Seattle loss, you were 6-0.
14:09So is it unbelievable?
14:11No, but it's impressive.
14:13Like, there could have easily been a hiccup against Cleveland.

14:54But you know what to tell me is that, and like a lot of long-time 49ers fans, if you
14:58watch professional sports, I wasn't frustrated.
15:01When I first saw the game start off, my response was, oh, no.
15:05Because in sports, you can tell oftentimes when it's clear one team is already, from the
15:13very jump, is imposing its will on the other team, and you realize we're outmanned.
15:19We're outgunned.
15:20We don't, we don't, we're going to have to, we're going to need something special or amazing
15:25to turn over a major thing to go, to go, to try to win this game.
15:29So that, that game, don't forget about the score.
15:32That was the old-fashioned, we got a butt whipped by a, by a professionally superior team.
15:36And, yeah, you can always go back in a game that you lose and say, man, we could have
15:42called it to play here and there or whatever, but Kyle could not have coached that team to
15:46win that game.
15:47There was just no way.
15:48It was just, the reality is, like we've been saying, this team has been fighting like hell
15:53to get past every win, get every week, you know, under man, losing the best players.
15:58And to their credit, as we've said many times, they've gotten every bit of juice out of this
16:04orange, but the reality is the orange isn't as good as their competitors.
16:09And so when you have these injuries, you just, sooner or later, it's going to catch up with
16:13you because in many ways, the team that wins in the end in playoffs is the team that's healthier.
16:18And so for the larger question is, for Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch is, you know, how far
16:26can we go?
16:26But really is, how are we going to somehow close the gap against a team like Seattle in
16:33the future?
16:33Because they got a lot of work to do to get this roster to the point where they can, they
16:38can match that kind of talent, even when you've had some, some losses to your players.
16:43Nathan, I think that's a great, thank you very much.
16:45This is a, this is a great call.
16:47Again, like we're talking earlier about micro and macro frustrations.
16:51The micro frustration is, um, that either they didn't, or they just never got a chance
16:56to try to move Brock Purdy around a little bit, get him out of the pocket, get some pace
17:01going with your drives on offense that we finally saw there in the second half and it worked.
17:06And then only because of the McCaffrey play did not, not turn into points.
17:10So that was kind of frustrating.
17:12The macro frustration is I do think that the Niners need to look at the idea of if one
17:20of our greats goes down on our lines, our line is over like that.
17:26That feels a little bit too flimsy to me.
17:29Trent Williams doesn't play.
17:31Your offensive line is overwhelmed.
17:33Nick Bosa gets hurt and you have the lowest sack total that your team has ever had in the
17:39history of its existence.
17:41I mean, honestly.
17:42You also lost Mike L. Williams.
17:43Yeah.
17:43So, but, but he wasn't crushing it like when he was playing either.
17:47Right.
17:47But he's not going to ever be a big sack master, but he's at least a guy who could help you
17:52maybe free up other people to be a part of the action as well.
17:56And he's a rookie.
17:56So like, I can put out all on his shoulders right away.
17:59But I, that, that's what I would, would hope for is that, because for instance, like the
18:05Steelers lost TJ Watt for a couple of games.
18:08They didn't like, just be like, so that's the end of sacks.

18:16But they also have Hayward and they've got other guys who are like veteran big boys up

18:24And they got Keon White and you've got Sam O and you've got a bunch of 23 and 24 year
18:30old pups.
18:30So I don't know about you.

18:34I'm like, when Sam O finally got home for that sack.

18:38I was like, you guys don't need an invitation.

18:47I get why they don't, they don't have the people they need to rush the passer.

18:57And even when they now have blitzed more than they normally do and normally would like
19:01to, like a lot of times when you are blitzing, you're bringing a linebacker late.
19:05And I think it was D winners or, oh yeah, D winners when he got hurt, he blitzes late
19:10and Sam Donald kind of sidesteps him.
19:12Yeah, he whiffed.
19:12But he collapsed in pain.
19:14He got hurt on the play.
19:15Either stepped on or whatever it was.
19:17So Sam Donald's like, oh, okay, let me go ahead and amble for five and first down.
19:21So even when you did the right thing and you brought the pressure, you still weren't making
19:26the effectual plays that you want to make.
19:28Which is why I think Kyle Shanahan keeps talking about tackling and it ticks everyone off because
19:32people don't want Kyle talking about the defense because apparently Kyle's not even about the
19:36defense.
19:36It's only about the offense and it sounds like he's blaming the defense.
19:40I don't think he said great things about the offense either.
19:43I mean, by the way, we can listen to all this here coming up next.

20:00I thought the 49ers, hampered though they are, and linebackers running around I've never

20:08But you have NFL helmets.
20:10So therefore, when there's another player in front of you as a defensive player, you're
20:16supposed to be able to tackle that person.
20:18They didn't do a good job of that.
20:19No, and it was really a stark contrast to me of watching Seattle and every time they had
20:25to roll up and make a tackle, they made the tackle.
20:28I can't remember too many missed tackles and the Niners had a bunch of whiffs and you mentioned
20:33the one before where Jackson Smith and Jigba goes all the way down the sideline for the touchdown,
20:38but he actually stepped out of bounds at like the 30-yard line or whatever.
20:41But on that play, there was like whiff, whiff, whiff, whiff, whiff.
20:45He stepped out of bounds, but it was way further down the field than I realized.
20:49Like when they started, he's running for the end zone and then they blow the whistle.
20:52You're like, okay, thank God.
20:54Like he actually stepped out of bounds.
20:55And then they showed the replay and it was like, step, no, that's in bounds.
20:59Step, no, he's still in bounds.
21:01Step, step, step, step, and then he's out of bounds.
21:04I go, well, he's still got like 16 yards in the first down out of that.
21:11Yeah, they just, they weren't where they needed to be.
21:14And they didn't, yeah, they didn't get people on the ground.
21:17So that's disappointing.
