00:00But right now, let's let you hear the full conference call from Kyle Shanahan today.
00:05Obviously, a lot to get to, and he started out by talking about the injuries.
00:10All right, guys.
00:11Injuries from the game.
00:12Ben Bartsch had a mild knee sprain.
00:14He'll be day-to-day.
00:15Juwan Jennings with his shoulder.
00:17We're still evaluating.
00:18Waiting for the information to come back.
00:20George Kittle did have a hamstring.
00:22He's going to be out a few weeks.
00:23Brock Purdy hurt his left shoulder and toe.
00:27We'll see how this week goes for him.
00:28And that's it from the game.
00:30Kyle, is one of those two Purdy injuries more severe than the other?
00:36And he in risk of missing a start or two?
00:40I'd probably say the toe's worse than the shoulder.
00:43And what about his availability this week?
00:46Yeah, we're not sure.
00:47We've got to see how it heals and how the week goes on it.
00:49Is there any indication on how severe Juwan Jennings' shoulder injury could be?
00:55No, the MRI was good.
00:56We're just waiting for a CT.
00:58Kyle, with Brock's toe, is that a turf toe injury?
01:03Just toe.
01:04That's all I've got here.
01:05Have you guys made any decision as far as how you plan to proceed at the place kicker position?
01:11We're looking into all that stuff now.
01:13I mean, there's options.
01:15Whether it's status quo, bringing guys for workout, practice squad.
01:20But we're going through all that stuff right now.
01:21I'm just finished with the team.
01:23And I know the personnel department is going to look into all that stuff and give us those options.
01:28And then as far as the re-signing or bringing back, I should say, of Kendrick Bourne, can you kind of give a reasoning or just what you believe that Kendrick can bring to the team?
01:42I mean, you obviously know him very well.
01:44Well, yeah, we love KB from his time here.
01:48And he did a hell of a job while he was in New England.
01:51So when he got let go, we tried to bring him in here a couple weeks ago.
01:55And we weren't able to quite get it done.
01:57And then Washington didn't either.
01:59And it ended up working out with us in the long run.
02:02So we got him here today.
02:03First time I've seen him back in the building was at a team meeting a little bit ago.
02:07And we're pumped to have him back here.
02:09We'll see how he does when he gets on the practice field Wednesday.
02:12For the Brock Purdy shoulder injury, is that his left shoulder non-throwing?
02:17And did that occur on – it was a play in the first half where he was driven pretty hard into the turf.
02:25Is that the origin of it?
02:28Yeah, that was it.
02:29The one that he threw it, I think it was when he just overthrew Ricky a little bit to the left
02:33and went to the ground on it.
02:36What about some of the other guys?
02:38Did Trent Williams make it through the game okay?
02:41And how did Christian come out of that game?
02:45Yeah, I got no reports on either of them today.
02:47So I'm sure they're normal soreness from a physical football game.
02:51But their injuries were – no reports on them.
02:55So that means they're good.
02:56Kyle, is that a conversation you have with Jake about bringing in guys to try out at kicker
03:04and maybe bringing someone on the practice squad?
03:06No, I haven't had it with him yet because I'm not sure which direction we're going to go.
03:11But whenever we decide on something, then we'll address it with him.
03:15Kyle, Christian was on the field for 58 snaps.
03:18That is 76, which is a lot for an offense.
03:20But was that about kind of where you'd like it to be rep-wise?
03:23I don't really look at it.
03:26I don't put a number on it, never have.
03:27I'd be surprised if I ever do.
03:30Kind of how it plays out, I mean, I think that's around it, give or take.
03:33A few either way.
03:36But he's a hard guy to get off the field.
03:39We did it throughout the game, but sometimes we'll do it more, sometimes we'll do it less.
03:43Kyle, are you going to have to put George Kittle on injured reserve
03:46and call up Braden Willis, or what's the plan there?
03:50I mean, when they tell me a few weeks, you know, it's always a possibility.
03:54I mean, in order to do that, it's got to be a four-week injury.
03:56So I don't think we've decided on that yet.
04:00Kyle, looking at so many young rookies on the defense,
04:03how did you think their performances were?
04:05I know Upton Stout had a challenging day, but other than that, how did you feel they went?
04:09Well, I thought they did good.
04:10I mean, definitely things they can improve, but I mean, I think they're all about on the same level.
04:16I mean, even to throw Upton against all the other guys.
04:18I mean, Upton was at the point of contact a lot more, just being a nickel,
04:23and how much they target their slot receiver.
04:25So I think you could see that a lot.
04:27And I thought he did a good job.
04:29I mean, there was a couple that he missed, but I thought Upton played well,
04:32and I was pretty happy with all the other rookies too.
04:34Definitely a lot of stuff we can coach him on and get better from,
04:36but I thought it was a good first game for him.
04:38What did you see from Michael Williams in particular?
04:42He didn't seem to register a lot of stats, but it seemed like he was a big part of the run defense.
04:49Yeah, I thought he was.
04:50You know, I think we mixed in a bunch of five-man lines and four-man lines,
04:53which I thought he did a good job on, moved around a number of times,
04:56and I thought he played his man well.
04:58I didn't see him on the stat sheet a ton,
05:00but I thought he did a good in his job and what we asked him to do,
05:03and I hope he will continue to get better.
05:05How did you think Marquis Segal performed?
05:09I was real happy with him.
05:11Flew around, made a lot of plays, had that one-missed tackle,
05:13but even I thought his one-missed tackle was good.
05:17You know, he didn't break down at all, shot his guns,
05:18made the bat come to a complete stop,
05:20and had that fumble recovery and played very fast in the game.
05:24Didn't hesitate, and that's where it starts.
05:27You know, you're happy with the way you guys responded to adversity and everything,
05:30but when you look at the stats, do you come away at all thinking that we should have won by more than that?
05:36I mean, you always think that.
05:39I mean, it's not always, but, you know, I think we punted a couple times in the game,
05:45but, you know, when you have four drives in a row, I think there was one missed field goal,
05:51two picks, and a blocked field goal.
05:54You know, that's four drives where you're not giving points,
05:57and you do that four times in a row, I'm worried that it's going to go completely the other way.
06:02So for us to be able to hold them, play good complementary football there,
06:05you know, I think on our four sudden changes,
06:08I want to say we only gave up points on one of them, if that's correct,
06:12which allowed us to stay in it and overcome those things.
06:15And then I love how we controlled the ball in the second half,
06:17how we got the run game going and really leaned on them,
06:19which I really think kind of took their run game out of the game
06:23and allowed us to kind of control momentum and take it back over towards the end.
06:29Kyle, when you went through the Jake Tonjes touchdown catch,
06:32what kind of stood out to you as you were viewing that?
06:38That no one was open, and I didn't think Jake was,
06:41but for some reason Brock did.
06:43And when he threw it, at the end of it, he proved to us that Jake was open
06:48because he made a hell of a play stepping in front of Tariq like that,
06:52and it was a big-time catch.
06:54Earlier in that drive, he had his first NFL catch,
06:56and it was followed the next play by a second,
06:58and I want to say it was three plays later by the game winner.
07:00So I think Brock just ended up getting confidence in him very quickly as the drive went.
07:08He's been around, Jake has, for a while now.
07:12What is it about him that has prompted you guys to
07:17or inspired you guys to keep him around?
07:19What do you like about his game?
07:22Well, I think, I mean, the biggest thing that stands out is his hands.
07:25I mean, he's got really good hands, which you can see on that last play.
07:28He's got athletic ability,
07:30and then when you tie athletic ability with someone's hands and size,
07:33he's got the tools to be good in the pass game.
07:35But he had to come a long way in the run game to be able to make the team
07:39and be out there.
07:40And he has come a long way in the run game,
07:42and he continues to improve in the pass game, too.
07:44So I know yesterday was his first day kind of sticking out to anyone,
07:49and hopefully he'll continue to get better from that
07:51and put together a good career here.
07:54Kyle, you guys got the deal done with Colton McKibbitts.
07:57How meaningful was that for you?
07:59And how nice is it?
08:00I don't think he's missed a game since he became a full-time starter
08:02with all the kind of moving pieces you've dealt with the last couple years
08:05to have a guy dependable like that.
08:07Yeah, Colton's been one of, I think, the most reliable guys on our team
08:11really since he got in when McGlinchey left.
08:15I mean, Colton, to me, is such a good story.
08:17I mean, he was a fifth-round pick.
08:18We cut him once, put him on practice squad.
08:22He ended up coming back and playing for us.
08:25I still remember the Week 17 game versus the Rams
08:28when it wasn't until before the game that we realized Trent couldn't go.
08:32And Colton went in there and played unbelievable, gave us a chance to go to the playoffs.
08:36And it was the next year that he really took over that starting position, that right tackle.
08:40And he's been our guy there ever since.
08:42So just the consistency he's played with, the fact that I believe he gets better each year also,
08:47and really that I think Colton's one of the true leaders on our team,
08:50and truly a 49er, and really pumped that we found a way to keep him here.
08:55Kyle, if Mac Jones does have to start this week,
08:58just kind of what's his state of readiness based on what you saw in camp leading into this?
09:03I think Mac had a really good camp going back all the way to OTAs and training camp.
09:09I think he's gotten really used to what we do.
09:10Had a little setback there the last couple weeks of camp with the injury that he got.
09:14But he had a good week of practice last week, picking up really right where he left off.
09:19And he has to go this week.
09:21He'll lead the guys.
09:22The guys will believe in him.
09:24And I know he'll do his job at a high level.
09:27What about the number three quarterback position, Adrian Martinez?
09:31I don't think that he's attempted an NFL pass.
09:35Would you need to bring somebody in who's more experienced if Brock can't go?
09:40It's a possibility.
09:41I mean, I think it has to do with really how Brock is probably over these next 24 hours throughout the week.
09:46But that's stuff we'll look into.
09:47We've been happy to get Adrian here.
09:49Heard good things about him from the Jets.
09:50And really enjoyed him last week in our first week of practice together.
09:53Just watching him a little bit and getting to get to know him some.
09:57But all that stuff will be fluid probably throughout the week and the next 24 hours.
10:02Kyle, with George coming out, are you comfortable with Braden Willis being bumped up?
10:07Oh, yeah.
10:08Braden was bumped up a ton last year and was on a roster a ton last year.
10:12So Braden's played in a lot of games for us.
10:14And we wouldn't hesitate to bring Braden out there.
10:16Take a few more, guys.
10:17Kyle, does Juwan have a chance to play Sunday?
10:22Yeah.
10:23Okay.
10:24Thanks.
10:24Sure.
10:25And the old guys, all right, appreciate it.
10:28See you Wednesday.
10:29All right, guys.
10:30See you guys Wednesday.
10:31All right.
10:32See you then, Kyle.
10:32Yep.
10:33Wednesday.
10:34Wednesday it is.
10:36Possibly.
10:36I love it.
10:37Does Juwan have a chance to play?
10:39Yeah.
10:40Right?
10:41Like, I mean, he's allowed to.
10:43He's on our team.
10:44Yeah, and we don't know what the injury is.
10:46You're still waiting on that CT scan, so.
10:49It's questionable.
10:50Questionable concern.
10:51Look, so much of this is just learning how to kind of translate what coach speak is doing.
10:57And I don't think any of us are ever perfect at it.
11:00But there are a lot of semantics going on right now.
11:03And also, if you flash back to last week, Kyle Shanahan, when it comes to injuries, does not feel like he should expand.
11:15So, how's he feeling?
11:17And how many games?
11:18It's like, I don't know.
11:19Does he have a chance to play this week?
11:20Yeah.
11:21Does he have a chance to be out for the whole year?
11:22Yep.
11:24Totally.
11:25I mean, yeah.
11:26All things are possible.
11:27Sure.
11:28Ian Rappaport put a number on George Kittle.
11:31Oh, yeah?
11:32What he probably said, three to five.
11:34That's exactly what he said.
11:35Yeah, because that is a few.
11:38And so, nobody really knows.
11:40And you won't know until you get through a week, two weeks, and however many weeks.
11:44But, you know, if you miss a week, or if you say somebody's going to be out a couple, or you say a few, or then you get to many, or then you get to several, all these words have general numerical kind of ballparks to them.
11:59So, when Kyle says at the start of that piece that Grandy just played, he's going to be out a few weeks, that tells me that a few is more than two, and less than six.
12:09Yeah.
12:09Three to five.
12:10I've never had five in my few category.
12:13I've always had few for three to four.
12:15Okay.
12:15Because five is five, and we do kind of, there's that marker of fives in our numerical society.
12:22When you get to five, that's five.
12:24That's not a few, but that's just me.
12:27You're not wrong.
12:28That's what Rap Sheet said.
12:30Three to five weeks.
12:31So, let's look at the schedule and what that means.
12:34Because I'm going to go ahead and assume that that definitely means three.
12:37Like, he's definitely, right?
12:39If he's out three to five weeks, I'm going to go ahead and assume he's going to miss the next three.
12:43So, that's at New Orleans, home to Arizona, and home to Jacksonville.
12:47And, indeed, that is the remainder of the month of September.
12:50Now, we get into the fourth game from now.
12:52And that is not only on the road against the Rams, but it's a Thursday nighter.
12:58So, it's only four days after the three weeks.
13:01So, I'm going to put that at pretty unlikely, too.
13:04Because if you can tell me today that he's not ready to play football on September 28th,
13:08what are the chances that he will be ready on Thursday, October 2nd?
13:12Probably not great.
13:13But, anyway, just so you know, that's the fourth game.
13:16The fifth one is a road game at Tampa Bay on October 12th.
13:22Now, that's obviously coming off of the mini-bye, because you've got a full week and a half in there.
13:29Atlanta at home on October 19th would be the game, seemingly, that the tweet suggests he will definitely be back for.
13:36Yeah, and you never know how these things are going to react and just how severe the injury is.
13:42If it's going to be that long, then you may think about an IR situation, because, you know, you start running out of bodies pretty fast.
13:51And, you know, Braden Willis is a guy who you can elevate, and now you're looking at your tight end room already was relatively thin,
13:58because, you know, you've got Tonjes, who just got targeted for the second time in his entire life,
14:04three catches now for his career, Farrell not a guy who catches the ball a lot,
14:09and Willis is somebody who hasn't really played a lot,
14:12so all of a sudden you're going to be looking at a month of no-kittle, most likely,
14:17so you're going to have to figure out other ways to make this thing work offensively.
14:21All right.
14:22As am I with my fantasy team.
14:23Yeah, well, good luck to you.
14:25Devastating.
14:25Yeah.
14:27We're 16-team, Lee.
14:28What's that?
14:30I'm going to have to pick up Jake Tonjes.
14:31What's the situation for you in your, yeah, what's the situation for you?
14:36I got beat by Ken.
14:37No, no, no, I know, yeah, but, like, what's the larger situation?
14:42You know what I mean?
14:43Yeah.
14:43Yeah, you lost your tight end.
14:45Sure.
14:45What else?
14:45What popped for you?
14:46What didn't?
14:47What changes are you looking to make?
14:48I think I'm going to get a new kicker.
14:51I got Jake Moody as my kicker, and he got five points,
14:54and that is, that's not going to work for me, Jake.
14:57I'm going to need you to make the field goals when you get a chance.
15:00He missed one, and he had one blocked.
15:02So that right there is six points.
15:04That hurt me.
15:06Harvey, the rookie running back for Denver, R.J. Harvey, he'll get there,
15:10but Denver was, that old thing was kind of a flat offensive effort.
15:15Bo Nix was not looking great there, Grandy.
15:18Bo Nix, not a great season debut.
15:21Well, let me just collectively for everybody, let's kind of take all that in for a second,
15:27everything from Kyle.
15:28And let me just say a word that rhymes with duck.
15:35Oh.
15:36Yeah.
15:36That's what he said after the second kick got blocked.
15:39I mean.
15:39That's what Kyle said.
15:40He did say that.
15:41Like, ugh.
15:43We're already here.
15:45So, everybody worried about injuries all August.
15:50Then the Niners got to week one, and they were very largely healthy.
15:54Except for late in the week, everyone freaked out about Christian McCaffrey.
15:58And what's the only room unaffected by injury right now?
16:01The running backs.
16:02The running backs, yeah.
16:03So, that's crazy, but here we are, and the tale of the tape right now is we don't know
16:10anything on Juwan Jennings, but we do know this.
16:14We know that George Kittle is going to miss September, and we know that Brock Purdy is a
16:19maybe for this week against New Orleans.
16:21And that's a tough one-two punch to come out of game one with.
16:25Thank goodness they won that football game.
16:28And you'd like to think that even a patch-together group can go beat the Saints, but I don't know.
16:36I don't know.
16:36I don't know what Mack Jones would look like, especially with receivers that just showed up.
16:41I mean, that's tough against any, any, any NFL team.
16:44So, no two ways about it.
16:47This is a, this is a day after Victory Monday gut punch.
16:51A little sobbing.
16:52To get, to get this.
16:53Yeah.
16:53No doubt.
16:53And I just was looking at the play where I believe Purdy got hurt.
16:58It was in the second quarter, third and five, and he rolls and he rolled back and he threw it out of bounds.
17:03And the defensive lineman basically planted him straight on his left shoulder on the turf.
17:10Was Ricky Pearsall the target?
17:12I think.
17:12This was a throw that just sailed wildly out of bounds.
17:15Lombardi did do a thing as far as, he said it happened.
17:19Brock Purdy's injury is on the left shoulder.
17:22It happened when he was hit on an attempted pass to Ricky Pearsall.
17:27He did not expand as to when, and obviously nobody knows what's going on or when the toe happened.
17:33Right.
17:33But Kyle says that's the more serious of the two.
17:37I mean, if, like, come on, Brock's tough.
17:40If we're talking about a non-throwing shoulder, I would like his chances to be able to play this weekend.
17:46Don't want to dismiss it, but that'd be my guess.
17:49But the toe injury, when they say, hey, is it a turf toe?
17:52And Kyle's like.
17:53It's a toe.
17:53It's a toe.
17:54I'm being told it's a toe.
17:56And I saw something that it says left big toe.
17:58I don't know if that's officially the toe.
18:00I mean, you have a 1-in-10 chance of guessing the toe.
18:04But if the shoulder happened when I think it did with 12 minutes to go in the second quarter,
18:09he played three quarters of football.
18:11He played through it with his non-throwing shoulder.
18:14So I wouldn't be as worried about that.
18:16And the toe, same thing.
18:18You mentioned it on the Tungus winning touchdown.
18:21He running around like a crazy man back there.
18:23I know, but you know how injuries work.
18:25And you wake up the next day, and all of a sudden they're twice the size or whatever.
18:29Yeah, adrenaline.
18:30Adrenaline is gone as well.
18:32And so I don't know.
18:33I don't know what to think about this.
18:36But, like, man, you're sitting here watching the Niners.
18:39They win.
18:40You know that Kittle is probably going to miss a little bit.
18:42Still don't know what's going on with Jennings.
18:44But you're like, dude, you won a game on the road in the division.
18:47This is amazing.
18:48And then 24 hours later, you're like, wait, I'm sorry, what?
18:52Brock?
18:53Brock Purdy's hurt?
18:54So didn't know that and didn't think we'd be dealing with that going into New Orleans in six days.
19:01But here we are.
19:03Here we are.
19:04And the Niners seemingly fighting the injury bug not just as much as anyone, but at a higher level, too.
19:11I mean, I don't know how many, like, how many big names came out of yesterday with injury problems.
19:16I'm trying to think, like, looking around the league, if there were any other.
19:20And I know we're just going to get these updates now, Puka Nakua left to get, he got bloodied.
19:25But, my God, that guy's tough as nails.
19:28Looking around the league, Brock Bowers left.
19:31He said he was going to be okay.
19:33But I can't recall any other names this big dealing with question marks for next week.
19:43And for sure, the first sort of, like, big name slash fantasy football tremor of the year belongs to none other than George Kittle.
19:53Yep.
19:53Yeah.
19:54Just looking at some of the lists, Drake London of the Falcons had a shoulder.
19:58He did.
19:58He missed the last series.
19:59Xavier Worthy dislocated shoulder by his own guy, and that happened back on Friday.
20:05Evan Ingram, my other tight end.
20:07Good luck to you.
20:08Had to leave the game with a calf.
20:10So, I have two tight ends.
20:13I started both, and now neither one of them will be available for me, it looks like.
20:16Yeah.
20:17Because Ingram's got a calf, and we don't know what that's going to be like.
20:20But, you know, other guys, Joe Mixon, who didn't play.
20:24Well, Mixon's on IR, and I don't even know if he's going to play football this year.
20:27Yep.
20:28So, I've heard some weird things coming out of that one.
20:30But, anyway.
20:31But, no, that is fairly high profile, not only for fantasy, but also for the Niners.
20:36And when you look at how they were going about their business, that opening drive, 95 yards, and, you know, Purdy was spectacular.
20:45And Kittle was awesome.
20:46And you got Robinson and CMC.
20:49The only one for Purdy.
20:51And I don't even know what the hell was going on.
20:54The jump pass?
20:55Like, is that something he's developing?
20:58I'm out on the jump pass.
20:59I'm out on the jump pass.
21:00Like, you know, good try.
21:03That's creative.
21:04I love creativity.
21:05Try new things.
21:06Be you.
21:07But, eh, wasn't my favorite thing.
21:10Yeah.
21:10I don't even know if it was, like, that necessary.
21:13I don't know.
21:13Yeah.
21:14Was that on purpose, Brock?
21:16Exactly.
21:17Or just, like, a spasm?
21:18I don't know.
21:18I don't know what happened there.
