00:00:00My name is Michael Anderson, and I'm not what you'd call a Rhodes Scholar.
00:00:17I don't have much in the way of philosophy either, but I know one thing.
00:00:22In this world, you have to pay as you go.
00:00:26Sometimes, all you have.
00:00:33That's a lesson I thought I learned nine years ago during what folks in these parts call the storm of the century.
00:00:39But I was wrong.
00:00:41I only started learning during the big blow.
00:00:44I finished just last week.
00:00:56I grew up in Maine.
00:01:04But in a way, I never really lived in Maine.
00:01:08I think anyone from my part of the world would say the same.
00:01:10Folks from Little Tall sent their taxes to Augusta, same as other folks.
00:01:33We got either a lobster or a loon on our license plates, same as other folks.
00:01:37We root for the University of Maine's team, especially the women's basketball team.
00:01:41Same as other folks.
00:01:48Hey, Sonny, you forgot one.
00:01:50One for the pot.
00:01:51Good luck.
00:01:51Better double it, Sonny.
00:01:52That weatherman said it's coming on.
00:01:54Seen them come in every winter.
00:01:56They howl in, they howl out.
00:01:57July always comes.
00:01:58Still, they say this one's going to be something special.
00:02:01But we hate the same.
00:02:03Life out on the islands is different.
00:02:05We pull together when we have to.
00:02:07We'll get to work.
00:02:08Yeah, like always.
00:02:10When you mind the swell, you mind the boat.
00:02:13What would a Frenchman like you know?
00:02:15Daniel.
00:02:17And we can keep a secret when we have to.
00:02:22We kept our share back in 1989.
00:02:24And the people who live there keep them still.
00:02:32I know.
00:02:34I stay in touch.
00:02:36Oh, thank you, Matt.
00:03:06You're welcome.
00:03:06Hey, Mrs. Kingsbury.
00:03:07Well, I've got all my canned goods now.
00:03:12You know, you wouldn't think there was a big stall coming, would you?
00:03:17I just pray we don't lose the power.
00:03:28Radio says it's going to snow a bitch.
00:03:30Oh, easy, Ferd.
00:03:31It's just a cap of snow.
00:03:33Trouble don't cross the region.
00:03:35Ain't that why we live here?
00:03:36Yeah.
00:03:38Well, we get in trouble, we're in trouble.
00:03:42Now, as we mentioned before, because we really cannot emphasize this enough, this is the storm
00:03:54that's caused so much misery and 15 deaths as it crossed the Great Plains in the Midwest.
00:04:12And you see its track before you in all its glory.
00:04:14Now, look down here, because, folks, here comes trouble.
00:04:17This is a very atypical storm, almost a winter hurricane.
00:04:21It's the sort of knuckle duster that paralyzed most of the East Coast and buried Boston back in 1976.
00:04:26The first person on Little Tall to see Andre Linoge was Martha Clarendon.
00:04:37He was also the last person she ever saw.
00:04:43Now, we haven't seen one of comparable power since then until now.
00:04:51Will it give us a break and stay out to sea as these storms sometimes do?
00:04:55Unfortunately, the Weather Network StormTrack computer says no.
00:04:58Oh, my.
00:04:59So the state's east of the Big India.
00:05:00And now, northern New England, if none of this changes tonight, you are going to win the boobie prize.
00:05:17Look at this.
00:05:19Now, if neither of these two systems veer, they're going to collide and urge over the state of New England.
00:05:24It's bad news for our friends in Yankee land.
00:05:26We're talking hurricane force winds and phenomenal amounts of snow.
00:05:29So, to this, you can add region-wide blackouts.
00:05:32Now, no one wants to be scared of the Earth.
00:05:33Oh, dear, dear.
00:05:35But folks in New England, every two or three days, you're apt to be getting a whole winter's worth of snow.
00:05:43Now, we sometimes overuse the phrase storm of the century, but if these two storm tracks converge,
00:05:49as we now think they will, the phrase will be no exaggeration, believe me.
00:05:52Judd Parkin is in next to talk about storm preparation.
00:05:55No panic here, just practicalities.
00:05:57The first of this.
00:05:58Oh.
00:05:58When they tell you the world's coming to an end, they want to sell you cereal.
00:06:08When they tell you not to panic, it's serious.
00:06:14Oh, hold on.
00:06:16I'm getting there as fast as I can.
00:06:19I broke my hip last summer, and I'm still as slow as cold molasses.
00:06:24Can I help you?
00:06:42Born in lust, turn to dust.
00:06:46I beg your pardon?
00:06:48Born in sin, come on in.
00:06:51Oh, that's number one.
00:06:57Want to say to yourself, how are my batteries?
00:06:59Are you going to have to keep a portable radio going?
00:07:01Possibly a small TV.
00:07:03And if you have a generator, time to check for gasoline supplies.
00:07:07All your days, all your propane.
00:07:08It's going to be before the end on after.
00:07:10It's too late.
00:07:12It's too late.
00:07:13I think a lot of wisdoms in our northern news have probably heard before, but it's this big.
00:07:20I'm a little teapot, short and stout.
00:07:27Here is my handle, here is my spot.
00:07:31When I get all steamed up, hear me shout.
00:07:35Just tip me over and pour me out.
00:07:39Do it now, before it's too late.
00:08:06Don't forget the bean supper next Wednesday week, my cook.
00:08:34I'm going to need every deacon I can lay my hand on.
00:08:38I'll be there.
00:08:39If we get to the next three days at this.
00:08:40I'm sure we will.
00:08:42God takes care of his own.
00:08:45Michael, I thought for sure you'd still have pork chops.
00:08:48There you go.
00:08:49Brown chops, dear.
00:08:51Don't you have any plain old hamburger, Michael Anderson?
00:08:53Yep.
00:08:54Right.
00:08:56Here.
00:08:56Okay, folks, listen.
00:09:00It's a storm.
00:09:01That's all.
00:09:03We've gotten through plenty of these before, and we'll get through plenty after.
00:09:06So everyone, hey, calm down.
00:09:08Stop acting like mainlanders.
00:09:10No.
00:09:11Don't be smart, Michael Anderson.
00:09:12No, Miss St. Pierre.
00:09:14I won't be smart.
00:09:15Yeah?
00:09:16Hold on just a second.
00:09:18Mike.
00:09:19Hey, Mike.
00:09:20You got a call.
00:09:21It's your wife.
00:09:22She said she's got a little problem down at the daycare center.
00:09:25Uh-oh.
00:09:26Is she hot under the collar?
00:09:27How do I know where she's hot?
00:09:29She's your wife.
00:09:33Hatch, want to take over for me?
00:09:35Yo, Mike.
00:09:36Hey, can I borrow your whipping chair?
00:09:39Better go see about that, huh, Mike?
00:09:45Hey, Ma, what's up?
00:09:46Uh, I got a little problem here.
00:09:48Can you come?
00:09:49Well, uh, I got a little problem of my own, hon.
00:09:51What's yours?
00:09:52Pippa got her head stuck.
00:09:54Pippa, can I leave your bed if you're not going to eat it?
00:09:59No.
00:10:00Pippa.
00:10:02Pippa, honey, don't do that.
00:10:03Just hold still, Annie.
00:10:04Keep her calm.
00:10:05Okay.
00:10:06Pippa, what about Pippa?
00:10:07Oh, shh, please, quiet.
00:10:08The last thing in the world I want is Alton Hatcher coming down on me.
00:10:11Something about Pippa.
00:10:17Oh, it's too late, babe.
00:10:19Uh, what's up?
00:10:22Pippa's got her head stuck in the stairs.
00:10:23It's not serious, I don't think, but I can't deal with a big storm and a crazed daddy all
00:10:29on the same day.
00:10:30If, uh, Hatch comes, you be with them.
00:10:33Uh, yeah, all right.
00:10:34I'll be down.
00:10:35Goodbye.
00:10:36What about Pippa?
00:10:37Uh, she's got a little stuck-itis out here.
00:10:40Let's go see.
00:10:43How upset does she sound, Mike?
00:10:45Molly?
00:10:46Oh, about .5 on a scale from 1 to 10.
00:10:48Don't worry.
00:10:50This is gonna be one bad mother of a storm.
00:10:53Mike and your daddy will be here in another minute, and Mike will get you out.
00:10:59I am hungry.
00:11:01Can I feed her, Mrs. Anderson?
00:11:03I feed the monkey ones of a banger fair.
00:11:06I'm not a monkey, Harry.
00:11:08Look, you guys, I'm a monkey.
00:11:10Ooh, ooh, ah, ah.
00:11:12All right, you kids, stop it.
00:11:17Stop it right now.
00:11:18It's not nice, it's making Pippa sad.
00:11:20Don.
00:11:20Don, you stop.
00:11:22It's me.
00:11:22I, I...
00:11:22I'm not a monkey.
00:11:33I'm not a monkey.
00:11:41I'm not a monkey.
00:11:43I'm not a monkey.
00:11:44You may.
00:11:44I'm not a monkey's My dog, no.
00:11:46It's my monkey.
00:11:47You you're a monkey.
00:11:48It's my monkey.
00:11:48You're get me, honey.
00:11:49You're a monkey.
00:11:49You need to stop that.
00:11:50Donnie, Donnie, you need to stop that right now.
00:11:52He's not a monkey!
00:11:54He's tiny!
00:11:56Oh, Pippa.
00:11:58Hold still, your Yankee ears right off your head.
00:12:00Daddy!
00:12:02Oh, hey there.
00:12:04Pippa got her head stuck, and Don won't stop being a monkey.
00:12:07Mr. Anderson, I stopped being a monkey as soon as she says.
00:12:10Well, that's great, Sally.
00:12:12I gotta put you down, Ralphie.
00:12:14Hey, hey, hey.
00:12:15Ow, hey, why'd you do that?
00:12:17You're acting smart.
00:12:19I ain't afraid of you, my dad's town manager.
00:12:21He pays your salaries.
00:12:23Pushers get pushed, Donnie Beals.
00:12:25You remember that.
00:12:26It's a true fact of this sad life.
00:12:29Pushers get pushed.
00:12:31Honey, why'd you do this?
00:12:34How do you see him here daring me?
00:12:38What happened, darling?
00:12:39It was easy going out, but now I can't get back in.
00:12:42I think my head must be bigger on this side.
00:12:45Well, it is.
00:12:47But you know what I'm gonna do?
00:12:48I'm gonna make it smaller.
00:12:49You know how?
00:12:50No.
00:12:51How?
00:12:52I'm gonna push your smaller button.
00:12:54Then your head will get smaller, and it'll slide out just as easy as it slid in.
00:12:57You understand, Pippa?
00:12:58I'm gonna push your button now, okay?
00:13:02You ready?
00:13:03Mm-hmm.
00:13:04Close your eyes.
00:13:05Here we go.
00:13:06Beep.
00:13:07Zoom.
00:13:08Okay, your head's getting smaller.
00:13:09Now pull it out before it gets big.
00:13:10There you go.
00:13:11Yay!
00:13:12There you go.
00:13:15No problem.
00:13:16I'm sorry if I called you Wade at bedtime.
00:13:21I saw a head like that when I couldn't get it to come out on my own.
00:13:24I just freaked out.
00:13:25I needed a break anyway.
00:13:27The smaller button, huh?
00:13:31Everyone's got one.
00:13:32Davey Hopewell in transition.
00:13:45He avoids the press.
00:13:47Stockton tries to steal a ball, but he doesn't have a chance.
00:13:50It's Davey Hopewell at the top of the key.
00:13:52Clock running out.
00:13:53Davey Hopewell's the Celtics' only hope.
00:13:55He shakes, he bakes, he...
00:14:02It
00:14:28...
00:14:29...
00:14:31...
00:14:32What part of this global warming play in such storms?
00:14:37Well, the fact is we just don't know.
00:14:39One thing we do know is that the jet stream has taken on a pattern
00:14:42which is very typical for this time of year,
00:14:44although the upper flow is even stronger than usual,
00:14:47helping to account for the terrific strength of this west coast.
00:14:50We'll be back right after this.
00:14:53Folks, come on down to Belfast Hotline this weekend
00:14:56for our annual blowout spectacular.
00:14:58Up to 30% off, lower up to 40% off, and 8 grand politics
00:15:02have been reduced in such as 50%.
00:15:04Folks, we have held this body.
00:15:06We're not prepared to eat or match,
00:15:08but be any legitimate.
00:15:10Mrs. Clare did?
00:15:11No, I do.
00:15:12Are you okay?
00:15:14No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:15:18Mrs. Clarendon?
00:15:41Mrs. Clarendon?
00:15:43It's Davey.
00:15:47Davey Hopewell?
00:16:02Are you alright?
00:16:05Hello? Anybody here?
00:16:35Forget the NBA, Davey. You'll never even play first string in high school. You're slow. You're a dwarf. Why don't you come on in here, Davey? I'll do you a favor. Save you a lot of grief.
00:16:51No! Help! Help! Help! Somebody kill Mrs. Clarigan! Help! Somebody help! Mrs. Clarigan's dead! Help!
00:17:05He's got plenty of smile, boy. I'll give you a whole new idea. He's playing pretty fast. Yep.
00:17:12He shoots. He scores.
00:17:21Help! Please! Help! Somebody help! Somebody please! Get help! Help! Please!
00:17:35David Hopewell! What are you doing, running down the middle of the road, making a spectacle of yourself?
00:17:44Someone killed Mrs. Clarigan. That's nonsense. What are you talking about?
00:17:48There's blood everywhere, and one of her eyes is out!
00:17:51Baby, just calm down. It's on her cheek!
00:17:54Mrs. Kingsbury, you look after him. Give him a hot tea. Better yet, give him some whiskey, if you have any.
00:18:01Are you gonna tell Mike Anderson?
00:18:03Well, not until I've had a look myself. First, there's more than one thing that a town manager can do, you know?
00:18:10If you want help, Robbie Beals...
00:18:12No, that won't be necessary, George. I'll be fine.
00:18:15Careful, Mr. Beals. I think the guy's still in the house.
00:18:18I think the guy's still in the house.
00:18:48I think the guy's still in the house.
00:18:50Here we go.
00:18:51Here he goes.
00:19:00Let's see.
00:19:04Come back.
00:19:08You want to come in?
00:19:19No, I'm fine. Hey, boss, thanks for seeing after my little girl.
00:19:23My pleasure.
00:19:38My pleasure.
00:20:08Daddy, I haven't heard any more than you have.
00:20:16Not the memorial bell, not what the winds were having.
00:20:19It'll be the siren comes to that.
00:20:22Two shorts and one long, that's right.
00:20:28Mike Anderson, of course.
00:20:32Those are the decisions we pay him to make, aren't they, dear?
00:20:35All right. Yeah, I'll say hello to Peter for you.
00:20:40Thanks. Thanks for calling, Betty.
00:20:44Tough day, huh?
00:20:46Betty Soames seems to think we have access to some secret forecast.
00:20:51Some kind of Gene Dixon psychic weather forecast?
00:20:55I guess, yeah.
00:20:58Or has most people in town seen this stuff?
00:21:00If they're not blind, they've seen it.
00:21:02You need to relax, Mike Anderson.
00:21:04How's little Pippa Hatcher?
00:21:07Whoa. That was fast.
00:21:09No secrets on the island.
00:21:11She's fine.
00:21:12She got her head stuck in the stairs.
00:21:16Dad's outside in the car right now.
00:21:18He's doing his homework for the big blow of 89.
00:21:20Ain't that just like Alton and Melinda Hatcher's daughter?
00:21:23Perfect.
00:21:24People know this one's bad, Mike.
00:21:28If they hear the siren, they'll come.
00:21:29You needn't worry about that.
00:21:31Now, you came to look at the emergency shelter set up, didn't you?
00:21:35Thought it might not be a bad idea.
00:21:37We can handle 300 for three days, 150 for a week.
00:21:41If what I'm hearing on the radio's right, we may have to.
00:21:44Anybody here?
00:21:58If you've been injured in an accident, you may have thousands,
00:22:02even tens of thousands of dollars waiting for you.
00:22:07So don't wait.
00:22:08Call now.
00:22:09Pick up the phone and dial 1-800-1.
00:22:12Stick up.
00:22:14That's 1-800-1.
00:22:16Stick up.
00:22:17Get what's coming.
00:22:19Oh, my God.
00:22:20Haven't you been through it?
00:22:32Good?
00:22:34You know it is.
00:22:36How's the supply closet?
00:22:38Full, just like you want it.
00:22:40Concentrates, mostly.
00:22:41Pour the water over the powder and then gag it down.
00:22:44But nobody will starve.
00:22:46You do all this yourself?
00:22:48Me and Pete's sister Tavia.
00:22:49Be discreet, you said.
00:22:51Don't panic anyone.
00:22:53Yeah, that's what I said.
00:22:54So, how many people know we're stocked for World War III?
00:22:59Everyone.
00:22:59All right.
00:23:00All right.

00:31:44What happened to Martha?
00:31:46Just stand back.
00:31:48This is under control.
00:31:50If he moves, shoot him.
00:32:05I, uh...
00:32:06If he shoots, he'll get us both.
00:32:13That thing's still loaded with buckshot.
00:32:16Also, he's still got the safety on.
00:32:24But you remembered to wear gloves.
00:32:40That was good.
00:32:50On your feet.
00:32:51Patch, close the door.
00:33:04Is that wise?
00:33:06I mean, uh...
00:33:07This being a crime scene at all, you think we should leave things the way they are?
00:33:10Leave the door open.
00:33:11The crime scene's gonna be under six feet of fresh powder.
00:33:13Now close the door.
00:33:15Hold on.
00:33:15Hold on.
00:33:15What's your name?
00:33:25Andre Linoj.
00:33:32All right, let's go.
00:33:34I'm sorry I had to call you early, guys.
00:34:00Oh, it's okay.
00:34:02The radio says they're gonna keep the bigger kids out by Machias, at least tonight.
00:34:06They're each is too choppy to send them back by water bus.
00:34:10Mommy, I'm cold.
00:34:12Oh, of course, yeah.
00:34:13Give them up in the car.
00:34:14Are there more?
00:34:15No.
00:34:16Buster and Pip were the last.
00:34:19Pipa!
00:34:21You had quite an adventure today, didn't you?
00:34:23Yeah.
00:34:24Good to see you, Melinda.
00:34:26Take care.
00:34:26You too.
00:34:27Bye.
00:34:27And thank you for being such a good helper today, Buster.
00:34:32Okay.
00:34:34Okay, we'll see you Monday, if the roads are open.
00:34:37Wave a bye, Buster.
00:34:39You drive safely, Angie.
00:34:41Bye-bye.
00:34:42Bye.
00:34:42Bye.
00:34:47Hello?
00:34:48There you are.
00:34:49I've been trying to reach you for almost ten minutes.
00:34:52Well, I've mostly been out on the porch,
00:34:53handing kids over to their parents.
00:34:54I sent them home early.
00:34:56What's up, Katrina?
00:34:56Well, I don't want you to be scared or anything,
00:35:00but we got word that there's been a murder on the island.
00:35:04Old Martha Clarendon.
00:35:06Mike and Hatch just went over there.
00:35:08Wait, wait, wait.
00:35:08Are you sure?
00:35:10Well, I'm not really sure about anything right now.
00:35:13You know, this place has been a madhouse all day.
00:35:16They just went over there,
00:35:17and Mike wanted me to call you
00:35:19just to let you know that everything's under control.
00:35:21Is it?
00:35:23Yeah.
00:35:24Probably.
00:35:24Probably.
00:35:24Probably.
00:35:26Anyway, he just wanted me to call you before anyone else did.
00:35:30So if you see Melinda Hatcher...
00:35:32Um, she just left here with Angie Carver.
00:35:37They're carpooling.
00:35:39You can reach them at home in 15 minutes or so,
00:35:42but you better make that 20.
00:35:45Look, there's no chance that this is, I don't know,
00:35:49some kind of a joke or a prank.
00:35:51You know, Robbie Beals called it in,
00:35:55and he doesn't exactly do humor, you know?
00:35:58Yeah, I know.
00:36:00He said that the person who did this might still be there.
00:36:05And I don't know if Mike would want me to tell you that,
00:36:08but I just...
00:36:09I thought you had the right to know.
00:36:14Molly?
00:36:18I'm coming down to the store.
00:36:19If Mike gets there before I do,
00:36:21you tell him to stay put.
00:36:22I don't think that he'd want you to...
00:36:23Thanks, Kat.
00:36:25Hey, Ralphie, honey.
00:36:28Let's go down to the market and see your daddy, huh?
00:36:30What do you say?
00:36:31Daddy, yay!
00:36:32Yay!
00:36:33Hey, let's get you dressed.
00:36:37What, are you going to put him in there?
00:36:39Not unless you want to get in the back seat with him and babysit.
00:36:42Get in there, mister.
00:36:44Put that down.
00:36:49Remember what I said, Robbie?
00:36:52Hell is repetition.
00:36:54He talks a lot of nonsense.
00:37:03I think he's crazy.
00:37:11How'd he know your name?
00:37:13You tell him?
00:37:13I don't know,
00:37:14but I do know that no sane person
00:37:16would want to hurt Martha Clarendon.
00:37:20All right, I'll...
00:37:21I'll come over to the store with you
00:37:22and help you clear this up.
00:37:24We're going to have to get in touch with the state police.
00:37:26Robbie, I know this goes against your grain,
00:37:28but you're going to have to let me handle this.
00:37:30I am the town manager here,
00:37:32in case you forgot it.
00:37:32Without responsibility.
00:37:33Yeah, so do I.
00:37:35And they're clearly divided in the town charter.
00:37:37Right now, Ursula needs you a lot more over at the town hall
00:37:39than I need you at the constables.
00:37:41Come on, Hatch.
00:37:42Listen here.
00:37:42You'll get the little big for your britches.
00:38:02The store.
00:38:12The store.
00:38:21Yay!
00:38:22Yay is right.
00:38:24Mommy, are you feeling all right?
00:38:37I'm fine, honey.
00:38:54What are we going to do with him?
00:39:03Keep your voice down.
00:39:06We'll have to try and raise the state police barracks in Machias.
00:39:10Probably was right about that much.
00:39:12But what are the chances they'll take him off our hands in this?
00:39:22Hatch.
00:39:24When we were in the hall, I heard the TV on, did you?
00:39:28At first, yeah, the weather.
00:39:30Then the guy must have...
00:39:33It was busted.
00:39:37Busted all the hell and gone.
00:39:39He didn't do it while we were in the hallway, either.
00:39:41You bust a TV picture to him, you make the sound like poof, you know, we would have heard it.
00:39:47Must have been the radio.
00:39:48It must have been the radio.
00:39:54He did it while we were in the hall.
00:40:24Safety off?
00:40:51Yeah.
00:40:52You're up top.
00:41:06Step out.
00:41:07Come right up onto the dock.
00:41:17You're up top.
00:41:31Shoot.
00:41:33You're up top.
00:41:34You're up top.
00:41:35You're up top.
00:41:36You're up top.
00:41:37Shoot.
00:41:38You're up top.
00:41:39You're up top.
00:41:41Must be the cold.
00:41:42You're up top.
00:41:56All right, never mind.
00:41:58Go around and open it from the other side.
00:42:00You want me to leave you out here alone with him?
00:42:03This happens to see Superman hanging out in the alley.
00:42:06Maybe we could bring him around the front?
00:42:08Through the store?
00:42:09With everyone doing their storm shopping?
00:42:11I don't think so.
00:42:12Go on now.
00:42:13Damn.
00:42:15I don't think so.
00:42:27Right over here.
00:42:29I don't think so.
00:42:42Hey, what happened Beals?
00:42:57Is Martha really dead?
00:42:58She's dead, all right.
00:43:05You haven't heard from him?
00:43:06I haven't heard from him.
00:43:12Hatch.
00:43:17Hi, Molly.
00:43:18Where's Mike?
00:43:19Is he all right?
00:43:20He's fine.
00:43:21He's up back with the prisoner.
00:43:22I just have to let him in.
00:43:23Is he a local?
00:43:24More in my life.
00:43:28What are they doing out back?
00:43:31What's going on here?
00:43:38Give me what I want and I'll go away.
00:43:44What is it you want?
00:43:54Mike!
00:43:55Let's go.
00:44:09Uh, Mike!
00:44:10Hurry up.
00:44:11It's freezing out here.
00:44:12Uh, Mike!
00:44:13Hurry up.
00:44:14It's freezing out here.
00:44:15It won't open.
00:44:16It's stuck.
00:44:17Well, did you unlock it?
00:44:19Of course I did.
00:44:21Then whale on it.
00:44:22Then wail on it. It's probably I stuck in the jam.
00:44:30Yeah. Let me.
00:44:45Anderson!
00:44:47You're gonna have to come around and take him into the store.
00:44:49Batch? Yeah? Come around. Alone.
00:44:54Right now.
00:44:58Remember what I said, Mr. Anderson.
00:45:01And when the time comes, we'll talk.
00:45:19Mm-hmm.
00:45:22Stop it.
00:45:24Stop it.
00:45:25Go!
00:45:26Go!
00:45:27Go!
00:45:28Go!
00:45:30Go!

00:45:36Go!
00:45:38Go on.
00:45:58Hold up.
00:46:00Go ahead, Hatch.
00:46:08Uh, Mike wants you folks to, uh, to move back on both sides.
00:46:20No one in aisle, too.
00:46:21Uh, we've got us a bad guy, and we can't bring him in through the back door like we'd like to,
00:46:25so, uh, go ahead, move back and give us some room.
00:46:28Why'd he kill her?
00:46:29How could you just move back, Pete?
00:46:31Mike's been standing out there in the snow, and his feet are pretty cold by now.
00:46:34Also, we'll all feel much better once we, uh, get this guy locked up,
00:46:38so, uh, just move back and, uh, give us a clear way up that second aisle.
00:46:43Yeah.
00:46:46Not one wrong move, Mr. Linoche.
00:46:49You mind me now.
00:46:59Mike?
00:47:08Straight down the aisle.
00:47:19Nowhere else.
00:47:21Come on, let's go.
00:47:22Peter Godso, my favorite seafood wholesaler standing shoulder to shoulder with my favorite politician.
00:47:38How's the fish business?
00:47:39Not so good, is it?
00:47:41Lucky you've got the marijuana business to fall back on.
00:47:44How many bales have you got wrapped up in the warehouse right now?
00:47:47About ten, twenty, forty?
00:47:50Better be sure you've got it wrapped up good, Pete.
00:47:52There's gonna be a hell of a storm surge tonight when the tide comes high.
00:47:55Come on, move!
00:47:57Cat Withers.
00:47:59You're looking well.
00:48:01And why not?
00:48:03It's just an in-office procedure.
00:48:04These days, nothing to it.
00:48:05I don't suppose you've told your folks about it yet, or Billy.
00:48:12Move.
00:48:15Or I'll move you.
00:48:17My advice would be go ahead.
00:48:19What's a little scrape between friends these days?
00:48:26Ralphie?
00:48:29Come on, Ralphie!
00:48:30Come on, Ralphie!
00:48:34Put him down!
00:48:35Or?
00:48:38I know you.
00:48:40You do?
00:48:41You're Ralph Emrick Anderson, and I know something else.
00:48:45What?
00:48:46You've got a fairy saddle on your nose.
00:48:52That's what my daddy calls it.
00:48:55You bet.
00:48:56And speaking of your daddy...
00:49:02Why are you wearing those?
00:49:03Because I choose to.
00:49:08Go on.
00:49:09Go see your dad.
00:49:11Get him out of here!
00:49:11What's happening, Mark?
00:49:13Get him out of here!
00:49:15Don't shoot him, Daddy.
00:49:17He knows about the fairy saddle.
00:49:19I'm not gonna shoot him.
00:49:20Not if he goes where he's supposed to.
00:49:22Hey!
00:49:23Hey!
00:49:24What do you know about Katrina?
00:49:25How do you know about that?
00:49:27Get away from her!
00:49:29This man's a killer.
00:49:31Stay out of his way, Billy Songz.
00:49:33Stay out of mine, too.
00:49:36Also, clean yourself up.
00:49:41Billy?
00:49:41Leave me alone.
00:49:49Before he gets too self-righteous, Katrina, ask him how well he knows Jenna Freeman.
00:49:56What do you know about my sister?
00:49:58That horses aren't all she enjoys riding when the weather's hot.
00:50:02Right, Billy?
00:50:03Billy?
00:50:07Keep away from this man!
00:50:09All of you!
00:50:09I don't like the sound of that.
00:50:23Move, Mr. Liner.
00:50:27Put your hands up and grab the bars.
00:50:33Now spread your legs.
00:50:35Wider.
00:50:35I'm gonna pat you down.
00:50:41If you move, my good friend Alton Hatcher's gonna save us all a lot of trouble.
00:50:50Don't even twitch, Mr. Linoche.
00:50:53You put your filthy hands on my son.
00:50:57So don't you so much as twitch.
00:51:00Please.
00:51:27All right.
00:51:42Where's your wallet?
00:51:47Where's your wallet, huh?
00:51:49What?
00:51:50Mike, take it easy.
00:51:51Look, I put his hands on my son.
00:51:59Put his face right on my son's face.
00:52:01Kiss my son's nose.
00:52:03Don't you tell me to take it easy.
00:52:07Where's your wallet, sir?
00:52:10Where's your wallet?
00:52:11Mike, where's your bank card?
00:52:13Mike, where's your blood donor card?
00:52:14Mike, where's your discount card from value?
00:52:16Mike, what's the limit you called to get here?
00:52:19Huh?
00:52:20Answer me.
00:52:21Where's your wallet?
00:52:23Where's your wallet?
00:52:24Stop it.
00:52:26Stop it.
00:52:27Mike, what are you doing?
00:52:30Mike.
00:52:44Take your boots off.
00:52:46I'll have to let go of the bars to do that.
00:52:49They lace up.
00:52:56If you move, you're never going to have constipation problems again.
00:53:03Kick them off.
00:53:04I have nothing.
00:53:20I'll put them on by the desk.
00:53:22Step into the cell, Ms. Solnurge.
00:53:35You move slowly.
00:53:37Keep your hands where I can see them.
00:53:38I have no idea.
00:53:40Yeah.
00:53:41I'm kidding.
00:53:43I'll have to let you down.
00:53:44I'll have to let go of the bar.
00:53:46Let me get up.
00:53:47I'll have to let go of the car.
00:53:54Let me get up.
00:53:55You don't think it'll hold you?
00:54:15It'll hold you.
00:54:25I swear, Micah, he wouldn't budge.
00:54:50Don't touch that!
00:54:52Did you check to see if he has any identification on him?
00:54:55I want you out of here.
00:54:58I want to tell you something, Anderson.
00:55:00Your sense of humor is entirely not funny.
00:55:02I don't have the time or patience for this.
00:55:04Now, you get out or I'll throw you out.
00:55:06Come town meeting, we're maybe going to have a change in law enforcement on Little Tall.
00:55:11Well, town meeting's a march.
00:55:13This is February. Now, get the hell out!
00:55:15Well, I, uh, think I handle that pretty well, don't you?
00:55:29Uh, like a diplomat.
00:55:31All right.
00:55:39I gotta go tell Molly.
00:55:40You gonna leave me alone in here with him?
00:55:44You try to raise the state police, Machias.
00:55:47And, uh, you keep away from him.
00:55:50I should say you could count on that.
00:55:51Come back.
00:56:05Are you there?
00:56:07Do you read me, Machias?
00:56:08Yes.
00:56:12We've lost contact with the mainland.
00:56:14Peter Godzow.
00:56:25Peter.
00:56:26Mike.
00:56:28Mike, now, what that fella said, that speaks crock of stuff I ever heard.
00:56:32Yeah.
00:56:32Look, uh, I want you to go on back there with Hatch.
00:56:35We're gonna watch this guy.
00:56:36We're gonna do it with the buddy system.
00:56:37Sure.
00:56:38Okay, you bet.
00:56:41I feel I have to close this door, folks.
00:56:43Uh, you're welcome to take what you've got.
00:56:45I trust you all to settle up after the storm's over.
00:56:47But right now, I've got a prisoner to deal with.
00:56:49Did that man really kill poor old Martha?
00:56:53In time, we'll have the whole story, but not now.
00:56:56Now, please, Del, all of you, please, just help me do my job.
00:57:02Uh, I want a few of you men to hang around for a couple minutes.
00:57:06Uh, Kirk Freeman, Jack Carver, Sonny Brodigan, uh, Johnny Harriman, Billy.
00:57:11Uh, Robbie.
00:57:15Matthias, this is Alton Hatcher on Littletown.
00:57:18We have a police emergency here.
00:57:20Do you read, uh, Matthias?
00:57:21Uh, come on back.
00:57:24Matthias, this is, this is Alton Hatcher, channel 190.
00:57:28Do you read?
00:57:28They don't.
00:57:30You lost your good antenna off the roof.
00:57:32Try the phone.
00:57:33We better take the truck.
00:57:42We won't get 300 yards in the car.
00:57:44I've never seen it come down so hard and fast.
00:57:46Hey, Billy, would you give Molly a hand with the car seat?
00:57:49Sure.
00:57:49I'll take the, uh, Island Services truck.
00:57:51We'll get somebody.
00:57:52Give me a lift.
00:57:53I'll get things squared away.
00:57:54Now, uh, gotta go back to, uh, Martha's.
00:57:58Just long enough to get it secure.
00:58:00Be careful.
00:58:05No?
00:58:08It was a long shot.
00:58:13You don't really have, uh, a load of Panama Red out there behind your lobster traps, do you, Pete?
00:58:22Mommy, the island won't blow away, will it?
00:58:24No.
00:58:25No, honey, of course not.
00:58:30Come on, honey.
00:58:36Mike was right.
00:58:38You'd never make it in your car.
00:58:39Drive safe, Molly.
00:58:41Thanks, Billy.
00:58:44I'll be home soon.
00:58:45We'll be home soon.
00:58:58We'll be home soon.
01:00:01Oh, damn.
01:00:13Hey, look at him.
01:00:14What?
01:00:18What?
01:00:20I, uh...
01:00:21Nothing.
01:00:26You've been smoking a little bit too much of what you've been selling there, Pete.
01:00:29Hey, shut up, Hatch.
01:00:31You don't talk about what you don't understand.
01:00:33Hey, Pete.
01:00:59But, um...
01:01:00How's that a line there?
01:01:03Yeah.
01:01:07Way out.
01:01:08What are you looking at?
01:01:25You're gonna be all right?
01:01:39I can give you a lift home.
01:01:42It's the wrong direction.
01:01:44I'm only six hours as down as you well know.
01:01:46Don't bevy me.
01:01:50Hey, come on.
01:01:50Let's get the other one.
01:01:57Mike!
01:01:59Do you have any idea of why he came here?
01:02:02Why he wanted to kill Martha?
01:02:04Nope.
01:02:04Why don't you go on home, Tess?
01:02:08I'll lock up.
01:02:09Everything okay?
01:02:27Everything okay.
01:02:28I couldn't raise the state police in Machias.
01:02:30Couldn't raise anybody.
01:02:32Well, that doesn't really surprise me.
01:02:33All right, here's the duty roster, Hatch.
01:02:36You and Peter till 8 p.m.
01:02:38Kirk and Jack, 8 p.m. to midnight.
01:02:40Robbie and Sonny, midnight to 4 a.m.
01:02:42Billy Soames and Johnny Harriman, 4 a.m. till 8 in the morning.
01:02:45After that, we'll, uh, figure something else out.

01:03:05Later on, we're gonna have that talk you wanted, sir.
01:03:09Hey, Mike, uh, what do we do with him if, uh, Arsalan and Robbie blow the town whistle and bring everybody in?
01:03:16Can't very well put him in the con of the town hall basement with a blanket and a cup of chowder.
01:03:20I don't know.
01:03:21Stay here with him, I guess.
01:03:22What, blow away if he blows away?

01:11:54Alp.
01:11:55Of course it is.

01:13:51I'll take it.
01:13:57Okay, Tess.
01:14:00It's getting pretty bad over there.
01:14:02I'm sure she had a head.
01:14:04Have you got her prescriptions with you?
01:14:08Sign in, everyone.
01:14:09We have to know who's here, so please sign in before you go downstairs.
01:14:13What could he say?
01:14:14Hell, everybody in out of Casco Bay knows that Peter Godsell wholesale's nine-pound spot for every pound of lobster.
01:14:20Can't say I blame him.
01:14:23House full of women to spot.
01:14:25The question is, Robbie, how'd that fella know?
01:14:29Oh, likely in business together.
01:14:32Why would a fella want to kill a hamless old lady like Martha Clampton unless he's high on drugs?
01:14:36You tell me that, Judge Kirby.
01:14:38That doesn't explain how he could know that Cat Withers was up in Derry for an abortion.
01:14:43Are there any more blankets?
01:14:46Robbie Beals, Henry Bright?
01:14:47You boys think you could go downstairs and bring up some more blankets out of that back storeroom,
01:14:52or aren't you far enough along with your politicking yet?
01:14:57What's the matter, Ursula?
01:15:00All this a little too much for you, dear?
01:15:02Robbie, don't you think it's about time to blow the whistle and bring them in?
01:15:06Looks like enough of them have come in on their own.
01:15:08The rest can ride it out just fine.
01:15:11This is a bunch of foolishness, as far as I'm concerned.
01:15:14Do you think our grandmothers and grandfathers got together at town hall when it stormed,
01:15:19like a bunch of cave people scared of the lightning?
01:15:21No, they used the Methodist church.
01:15:24I got a picture I could show you, Stormer 27.
01:15:27You can point out your granddad in it if you want.
01:15:30Looks like he's stirring a pot of soup.
01:15:32Nice to know there was at least one fella in your family knew how to pitch in.
01:15:37Come on, Robbie.
01:15:44Sign in before you go downstairs, folks.
01:15:48Room not for everybody, but we need to know who we have.
01:15:54Hey, Ursula.
01:15:56Have you seen Mike?
01:15:57No, but I'll be able to catch his car radio if he calls in.
01:16:00It's not good for much else tonight anyway.
01:16:03Hey, take off your coat. Pitch in.
01:16:05How's it going?
01:16:06Oh, we're having a ball.
