00:00Motorhead Garage, the program that each week introduces you to and shows you how to install
00:06the latest in exciting and innovative products for your vehicle.
00:10Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:17If you want to improve your performance or your ride off-road, of course that all starts
00:20underneath the vehicle.
00:21And if you're talking parts underneath the vehicle, that is where Randi's Worldwide
00:25comes in.
00:26They've been at it for decades making drivetrains, making suspension parts and a whole lot of
00:31other things.
00:32Well, Zach, you've been there for a while and Randi's really, you guys are off-road enthusiasts.
00:38How did the company start and how has it evolved?
00:41So Randi started a while back.
00:42I know we've been around quite some time and it essentially started out in a single garage
00:49as a drivetrain reselling company, right?
00:52Gradually, that expanded to owning UConn Gear and Axle, USA Standard Gear and Axle.
00:58That's what we refer to as our legacy brands.
01:01And then we've since expanded.
01:03We've gotten into the remand category with Subrota.
01:06We've gotten into suspension heavily, off-road suspension.
01:09So Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Cognito Motorsports, Carly Suspension to name a few.
01:15And then expanded even into a few different categories like trailer hitches and then some
01:18of the overlanding van suspension performance.
01:21So we've got quite a coverage.
01:24So like attracts likes, you have a lot of amazing brands on board.
01:27And how has the business evolved since then?
01:30How much growth have you seen in who you're sending parts to and who's using your stuff?
01:35Yeah, so obviously the drivetrain category for us is the widest spanning, you know, because
01:41you're starting, you're going from performance car all the way to the off-road, you know,
01:46and then everything in between.
01:48Obviously, our suspension brands, the off-road suspension brands were, I think, the largest
01:53growth that we're seeing, especially in the last few years here, is definitely going to
01:56be in the HD truck category.
01:58That is our, right now is our number one growing category, I would say, across the entire organization.
02:05But as far as the line coverage goes, I mean, there's, you would be hard pressed to find
02:09a vehicle that we don't make something for.
02:11Now, there's a lot of places you can get parts out there for your off-road vehicle.
02:14What sets Randy's apart?
02:17So the interesting thing about Randy's and what I like to think makes us a little bit more
02:20special is we, our business model is pretty simple, right?
02:24We've been purchasing businesses that are the top of the line, best in category in the
02:30industry.
02:31And we're just trying to roll them all into one, make it as easy as possible for someone
02:34to go to a one-stop shop and that, and start with, let's start with gearing and then you
02:40can get the most, the best in class HD truck off-road suspension, finish it out with a trailer
02:46hitch and then plenty of other categories in between there.
02:49So not only is the, the line card huge and the product base, a very wide range of products.
02:56We also have a really, really, really experienced staff on the phones.
03:00So if you call up to Randy's and you get one of our inside sales guys, he's going to be able
03:04to tell you exactly what you need.
03:06And that's going to, that's going to range from drivetrain to suspension to, you know,
03:09a trailer hitch to, as I said, a trailer hitch to even finish it off.
03:13So Randy's worldwide is always on the move.
03:16You guys are always progressing and rolling out new products.
03:18So what's some of the hottest stuff you have going right now?
03:20Some of the most exciting ones, obviously there's, there's a lot of innovation and there's
03:24a lot of, the suspension category is a very fast moving market, right?
03:28And there's a lot of innovation going on at all times.
03:31So some of the cooler things right now, I think Icon Vehicle Dynamics, for example, we've
03:35got a new series of shock coming out.
03:38We call it our CDXS, which previously we only had single or slow speed compression dampening
03:43on these shocks.
03:45This is now a slow and a high speed compression dampening shock.
03:47All of our shock absorbers are built in house.
03:49We have a huge, huge line card and they're all available either in kits, a la carte, however
03:56you would want to do it.
03:57A couple other cool things.
03:59Carly suspension.
04:00That's one of our really, really good moving lines.
04:02As I said before, the HD truck market is just killing it right now.
04:06We've got a couple of new shock packages out through those guys.
04:10Our Pathfinder, namely, our Pathfinder suspension system is going to be for the guy that wants
04:15the best all-around performance out of his tow rig, but wants to be able to really press
04:21on that skinny pedal when he's off-road, right?
04:25So that's been a huge seller for us.
04:26It's been doing very, very well and we're really, really pleased with the outcome.
04:30Of course, when everybody gets a Jeep or a truck, they want to go off-roading and that
04:34means taking off the OEM stuff and putting on all the new parts and accessories.
04:39So what do they need to do if they want to make their vehicle more trail ready?
04:42So a couple of good places to start.
04:44Obviously, off-road, the two biggest categories for us are always going to be suspension
04:49and drivetrain.
04:50Typically, the first thing a guy does when he gets his Jeep, he wants to get that super
04:53cool new lift kit and get it sitting up in the air a little bit, but that also comes
04:57with, obviously, you're going to be needing to re-gear it when you go to a larger tire.
05:03So if you give us a shout and just talk us through what you want to do, you know, get
05:08on the phone, tell us what kind of lift you want, tell us what size tires you're going
05:11to and we'll tell you exactly what you need and it comes down to gear ratios, lockers,
05:16wheels, tires, suspension, everything that you're going to need.
05:19Well, if you're talking drivetrain or suspension, wheels and towing, Randy's Worldwide is the
05:24place to go.
05:25They have everything you need, so I want to thank you, Zach, for coming with us and thank
05:30you at home for tuning in to Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
05:33We'll be right back with a whole lot more, so stay tuned.
05:37Coming up, we have a safer and easier way to jack up your vehicle.
05:41Plus, you know, John Gardner's a former teacher of the year in the state of Florida.
05:45He is up next, so stick around and you'll have a chance to learn from the very best.
05:52Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Amsoil, protection
05:58you demand, performance you deserve.
06:01Steel Rubber Products, get your ride sealed with steel.
06:06Better Battery Bolt, you are nuts not to try these bolts.
06:20These are two engine valves.
06:21The big one?
06:22Well, this one's out of a ship.
06:23This other one's out of a daily driver.
06:25Now, the size is different, but the job, well, they have to do the exact same thing.
06:29They have to seal the combustion in the chamber and they got to dissipate a ton of heat.
06:33Welcome to this Amsoil Tech Tip.
06:35We're talking about the valves and making sure they seal properly.
06:39What is a valve?
06:40Well, you can see it right there.
06:41It actually goes in the cylinder head.
06:42We're dealing with the face of that valve right there.
06:44We want it to seal in all that combustion pressure, so the face of it has to be ground
06:49and it has to be perfect.
06:50You can see how to do it right here.
06:52Now, a professional take the valve out and they would take it to what's called a valve
06:55grinding machine.
06:57You want to do a nice valve grinding on it so it seats perfectly.
07:00You can do a 45 to 45 degree angle.
07:03You heard of a three angle valve job.
07:05That could be 15, 30, 65.
07:07There's all different angles to do.
07:08Or you could do a 45, 46, which is an interference angle.
07:12Just follow your manufacturer specification.
07:14That's what we're doing.
07:15We're actually running it back and forth and we're grinding that valve.
07:18Once we got it ground down to the proper angle, well, we still got one more
07:21process we want to do and that's called lapping the valves.
07:25Kind of use a sandpaper here.
07:26It's a liquid.
07:27We're going to put it on the valve right there.
07:29Then we're going to put it into the head and we're actually going to rotate the lapping
07:32tool.
07:33And what is that doing?
07:34Well, it's actually making that perfect mating surface between the valve and the cylinder
07:38head.
07:39And that's huge, Len.
07:40I want to make sure that that thing's sealing because if it's not sealing, we're going
07:43to have a lot of problems.
07:44And you can see there, once you get it down, you're going to go ahead and spin it, pick it up,
07:48and move it, spin it, pick it up and move it.
07:50And that's going to make that perfect seat all the way around that valve.
07:54Why?
07:55Well, we're only talking about a little portion there, Len.
07:57Look at that.
07:58That's touching that cylinder head.
07:59That has to dissipate a massive amount of heat.
08:01How's that going to work?
08:02Well, what ends up happening there, as you know already, is that heat is passing through
08:06into the cylinder head where the oil is actually touching.
08:09We've got oil on the other side of that valve in the valve tray under the valve cover.
08:13And if that heat from that exhaust or that intake valve passes through there and you don't
08:19have a properly formulated oil, what can tend to happen is depositing.
08:23And once deposits form in there, it's like putting a nice, big, fuzzy, warm blanket on
08:27top of it.
08:28And it makes it even worse because the heat grows, the depositing grows.
08:31So use a properly formulated oil to help keep that surface clear and keep that heat transferring
08:37through.
08:38Put that into perspective, man.
08:39Check that out, 1325 degrees Fahrenheit on the stem of this valve right here.
08:44So when that thing's popping up and down, it's going in there, we have to transfer the
08:48heat.
08:49Len, not to mention these valve seals on the other side are getting a big grunt of that
08:52heat and they have to stop the oil from shedding and going down into that cylinder.
08:57What happens if they start to wear out?
08:58Can you help us?
08:59Right.
09:00What happens to them, they end up getting heat cycled so much, they just tend to get
09:03baked and they'll get stiff.
09:05And what can happen is they'll leak.
09:06So what we do is we formulate technology into our high mileage oils that help to soften and
09:11swell those to keep them working even as they accrue miles.
09:15Whether you're a captain of a big ship with a huge valve like this one or your daily driver
09:19with this one, it doesn't make any difference.
09:21They both need proper maintenance.
09:23To find those products to maintain your vehicle, just go to Amsoil.com.
09:36My name's Joel Holley and this is my 1934 Ford Coupe and I'm from Glenpool, Oklahoma.
09:47I was looking for a coupe, I've always been a big fan of coupes and I went and met with
09:51this guy.
09:52His name is Billy Morris and he lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
09:57He could no longer drive it.
09:59Him and his wife really loved this car and he wanted to go to a good home.
10:03The more I got to talking, not only did I fall in love with the car, but I fell in love with
10:07the story behind the car.
10:09One of the biggest things that really just captured my heart is he's a retired veteran.
10:14He served in all four branches of the military and he built prosthetics for wounded warriors.
10:21He built this car on a hope and a dream.
10:24On top of that, he has Parkinson's.
10:26So he did everything to this car, clear down to the paint job.
10:30It's not perfect, but it's near and dear to me.
10:32It has fuel injection on it, heat and air and everything.
10:36So I mean, it's just, it's comfortable to drive.
10:38He saw it about a month after we finished it and everything and he, he was just smiling
10:43from ear to ear.
10:44He was riding around in his little scooter, you know, just smiling and asking questions
10:48and everything.
10:49So he knew it went to a good home.
10:53Hey, Motorheads, before we go to break, I want to tell you that next week, Motorhead
10:58Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products comes to you from the Performance Racing Industry
11:03Show.
11:04All things motor sports and high performance, plus some tech tips for your vehicle at home
11:08and a whole lot more.
11:09In the meantime, there's more Motorhead Garage just around the corner.
11:12Stay tuned.
11:13You are locked into Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products coming to you from the
11:20Mouse Blocker Studio, mouse free for years now, thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
11:26Every year, thousands of car owners find out the same thing.
11:29They find out that mice love warm, cozy and safe engine bays to nest in.
11:33And once they're in there, they start chewing on your car's wiring and insulation.
11:37Now, mice gnaw on anything they can find because their teeth never stop growing and they need
11:41to keep them from growing too long.
11:43Once they start chewing, they can do thousands of dollars in damage.
11:47But you can stop the damage before it starts with Mouse Blocker.
11:51Mouse Blocker uses ultrasonic waves to keep mice and other critters away from your car,
11:55from your truck, your RV, or your boat, and from your garage all together.
11:59You can protect your ride, you can protect your wallet, and you can protect your sanity.
12:04Go to MouseBlocker.com before the mice move in.
12:09I know lots of you have RVs, maybe you love off-roading, well of course you get into trouble
12:13out there or just a simple matter of hitching up your trailer, you're going to want to use
12:17a bottle jack.
12:18There's no way to bring your whole floor jack out with you.
12:20But there's some pitfalls, Richard, that come with using a bottle jack when you're off-roading
12:24your campsite.
12:25Not everything is going to be flat on a vehicle when you want to use it.
12:29So especially if you're trying to jack up from an axle, you know, it's a tubular thing,
12:32it's going to roll off.
12:33Yeah, and this is all you get when you get a bottle jack.
12:35Exactly.
12:36They're great jacks, but this is it.
12:37So in ideal conditions on something flat, you can jack something up easily.
12:41You're on the trail, the side of the road, your campsite, and you've got a metal axle
12:44on top of this, it's going to slide right off.
12:46Exactly.
12:47You guys at Bottle Jack Buddy came up with a solution.
12:49We did.
12:50What's it look like?
12:51How does it work?
12:52Okay, so this is our regular size.
12:53This is our larger size.
12:56What this does is this cradles the axle.
12:58So if you have a solid axle on here, it's not going to roll off the jack.
13:01It's as simple as that, and there's the largest for the larger axle, but it also accommodates
13:05the larger saddle here on the bottle jack.
13:07Yeah, depending on your bottle jack.
13:08Gotcha.
13:09So let's look and take a look at how it'll actually, we can apply it here with this.
13:15And two different sizes here, the axles, it fits perfectly, it'll keep it from sliding
13:19off here.
13:20How do I know this thing's going to last under the weight of my trailer and my vehicle?
13:22Well, we've tested it up to 17,000 pounds.
13:25That'll do?
13:26100% U.S. steel, manufactured in the U.S., 100%.
13:29And designed here as well?
13:30It is.
13:31Got a patented design, yes.
13:32Now how do I know what size axle I have and which Bottle Jack Buddy I'm going to need?
13:35You can get information from the manufacturer, you can also look online, but there's a lot
13:39of different applications.
13:40A lot of vehicles build different axles depending on towing capacity, and as far as the jack, a lot
13:44of Bottle Jacks build two or three different sizes.
13:46So always measure your axle, always measure your Bottle Jack.
13:50What are some of the folks that use the Bottle Jack Buddy telling you some experiences they've
13:53had with it?
13:54We've gotten great experience, the product sells itself, it works really well, and we even
13:58had a guy recently, he had roadside assistance, brand new motor home, he was on the side of
14:02the road for four hours, they never showed up.
14:04And so he actually has this product now, and he's actually been able to use it to change
14:08his own tire, which is really cool.
14:09This is great for off-roaders as we mentioned, and you showed it off first at Overland West
14:13last year.
14:14How was it received there?
14:15So Expedition Portal did an article on it, and it was the top, most innovative product
14:19at Overland Expo West.
14:20Kind of speaks for itself too, and I understand you've been in some magazines as well?
14:23Yep, Men's Journal being one of them as well.
14:25Excellent.
14:26And there's a lot of imitators out there.
14:28How do we know that we're finding the real Bottle Jack Buddy?
14:31So the best thing to do is look for the term Bottle Jack Buddy on the adapter, but also we
14:35have several retailers on our website, BottleJackBuddy.net.
14:38You can also get these on eBay, and if you buy on eBay, you can have them shipped internationally
14:41as well.
14:42eBay does all that.
14:43But we have multiple retailers in multiple states, and you can find them on our website.
14:46And we have the regular and the large.
14:48What are the specs on those?
14:49What are the sizes?
14:50So the regular will cradle up to a three-inch axle, and the large will cradle up to a four-inch
14:55axle.
14:56And these are going to work for anybody.
14:57If they're off-roading, if they're towing a trailer, and now even for a low-profile Bottle
15:01Jack like that, folks with a classic car or something like that?
15:03Exactly.
15:05If you've got an older race car or something like that, you can't fit one of these under
15:06the axle, you can buy jacks like these.
15:08It's a perfect solution for jacking up your vehicle, maybe getting it out of trouble if
15:11you're off-road.
15:12It's the Bottle Jack Buddy.
15:13You can find it at BottleJackBuddy.net.
15:17Look for Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products on social media.
15:21You can also find episodes you might have missed everywhere you stream TV and video.
15:25Still more to come for this week, so stay tuned.
15:31Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Pulsetech Products,
15:36World's Best Battery Charger, Alcan Spring, finest handcrafted leaf springs on the planet,
15:44and by Tailgate Defender, engineered to fold, built to hold, designed for the working man.
15:50All right, Motorheads, hear me out.
15:53Now, you've seen the cell phone seat before, but what if I told you it's gotten even better?
15:57That's one of the most popular items we've ever seen here on the show.
16:01Scott, when you invented the cell phone seat, it was an evolutionary process.
16:04You kept getting feedback and you kept trying it out, and you've done that again, an evolution
16:08through what your customers had to say.
16:10Okay, so how has the cell phone seat gotten even better?
16:13So, great questions.
16:14We had a lot of feedback from our customers.
16:15They love the product, but they mentioned some things that could potentially be better.
16:18Well, we've worked really hard to make some improvements on the device itself.
16:22Not only have we changed the front to make your front navigation buttons more accessible,
16:26we've also included optional foam inserts.
16:29So, some people had a little bit of movement maybe with smaller phones or phones without cases.
16:33Now, we've got these amazing foam inserts that you can easily put into the holder to work for smaller phones
16:39or phones that don't have a case.
16:41We also have modified the base.
16:42So, if you have any type of movement in your cup holder, I mean, because there's, you know,
16:47100 million different combinations of cup holders, of cell phone sizes, plus you have accessories and cases.
16:53So, we have created these foam strips that you can now put around the base of your cell phone seat
16:58to ensure that it fits perfectly and stays secure in your cup holder while you're driving.
17:03Now, that wasn't an exaggeration.
17:04100 million is actually the number Scott came up with using AI to figure out how many different combinations there are.
17:09And this, of all devices out there, there are other options, this fits more than any other.
17:15Why is it so adaptable?
17:16Well, we just made it really universal, right?
17:18It has a flexible set of rings on the base that you can flex from 4 inches down to about 3 inches.
17:23You can even modify these to get down to 2.5 inches if needed, and we have that in our instructions.
17:27We left the top very open to accommodate for larger phones, phones with large cases.
17:33People, I use a wallet case on my phone, so I need a lot of extra room in there.
17:36So, we do have this large opening for those types of phones.
17:39But, of course, a lot of people have very small phones.
17:42I mean, you have the newest phone from iPhone is pretty tiny, right?
17:46So, that's going to have a little bit of movement when you're in the device, which is okay.
17:50You can have a little bit of movement when it's in there, but with the new foam inserts, check that out.
17:56Don't try this at home.
17:57So, now with the new foam inserts, you can actually put those in there and not have any movement on any different type of phone.
18:02Now, I mentioned this is an evolutionary process, and the cell phone seat looks super simple.
18:07But, it was complicated to get this designed exactly the way you wanted it to.
18:11Durability, I know, was also a factor that you thought of when designing this.
18:14Correct.
18:15So, because it's the only single piece of plastic that does everything that the cell phone seat does on the market, it had to be extremely durable.
18:22We're very proud to say this is made in America.
18:24We make this in Frasier, Michigan, out of very strong, durable, you know, American-made plastic.
18:30This is made by American hands.
18:32Again, we put a lot of pride into the strength that we have and the durability.
18:35There is a lifetime warranty on it.
18:36So, hey, if it's five degrees outside and you try to squeeze it into a small cup holder and you crack it, we're going to replace it for you.
18:42Very cool.
18:43And, you have a lot of different options now.
18:45And, there are newer options since the last time we saw you regarding colors and design.
18:48So, let's look at some of what's new from the cell phone seat and the cup holder phone holder, the new version.
18:54That's correct.
18:55So, we've added some new colors including a wolf gray, a canyon beige.
18:57We do have a lot of our original colors and we're very excited to show that we have these new custom colors.
19:02These are hydrographic dipped and you can get anything from the tie-dye to American flag version.
19:08So, people are very excited about those.
19:10And, it's more than you can see here.
19:11If you go to cellphoneseat.com, you can see even more designs.
19:14One of the things I love about the cell phone seat is that you can actually still use your cup holder with that.
19:19And, I think that stands head and shoulders above everything else.
19:22I get in a lot of rental cars.
19:24The cup holder is the only place to put the phone and that renders it useless.
19:28I'm not able to use it for anything else.
19:29Exactly.
19:30You definitely don't want to block your cup holder.
19:31That's the reason I designed this.
19:32You know, when I first had the idea, I was throwing my phone in my cup holder like most people do.
19:36It was bouncing around.
19:37I couldn't really see it.
19:38The idea popped in my head.
19:39We worked for years 3D printing different versions of this to get it just right.
19:43And, the ultimate goal of to make it fit universally in most cup holders without actually blocking the cup holder.
19:50Because, hey, you know, we need our coffee.
19:51We need our water.
19:52You know, we need our protein energy drink.
19:54Whatever the drink of the day is, we need to have access to it.
19:57So, this can be used anywhere there's a cup holder between 3 and 4 inches.
20:00It's going to work in golf carts.
20:01It's going to work in, we've even heard it works in tractors.
20:04It's going to work in your cars.
20:05It's going to work in your trucks.
20:06It's going to work in your boat.
20:07It's even going to work at home in your recliner.
20:09And, it's going to work with more than just phones here.
20:11If you've got a kid maybe with their iPad in the back, you can set that right in there and put it in the cup holder in the car seat and you're good to go.
20:18That's correct.
20:19Now, your kid's back there.
20:20He can watch whatever he likes to watch or play on his iPad and he doesn't even lose spot for his apple juice or his milk.
20:24Now, there are imitators out there.
20:26You can go to other websites and you can find a cheap substitute.
20:28It may look the same, but the design and the quality will not be the same as the cup holder phone holder from Cell Phone Seat.
20:34The only place to get the real deal is CellPhoneSeat.com.
