00:00Motorhead Garage, the program that each week introduces you to and shows you how to install
00:06the latest in exciting and innovative products for your vehicle.
00:10Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:17And our friends from Car Capsule are here.
00:19This is their Paint Pro Station and it's so big we decided to bring the entire production
00:23in here.
00:24Now you've seen Car Capsule and you've seen Phil before.
00:26They've got their original bubble and they have their showcase models as well.
00:31This Paint Pro Station is new, Phil.
00:33You unveiled this at the SEMA show.
00:34Now how was it received by all the folks there?
00:36It was outstanding.
00:37Besides winning a new product award, the crowds were there but everyone was attracted to it.
00:43We worked on it for years and we listened to our customers and all the problems they had
00:47with them, we corrected in this.
00:50There's a lot of new features in this and on our Paint Proof Zone app.
00:53And let's talk about that.
00:54SEMA liked it enough to call it the best new product but you've really taken the best
00:58of what's already been out there.
00:59Stuff you've made and you've seen other stuff in the industry.
01:02If you know our showcases, we have the inflatable frame.
01:04And most of the products we make now have inflatable frames but it's a sealed frame.
01:08So there's nothing running in here right now.
01:11And this is not going to collapse.
01:13This blew up in under 10 minutes but the best thing is you're painting, something doesn't
01:17trip over a cord.
01:18Don't blow a breaker, a GFI blow and the thing collapse.
01:20That's a major thing right there.
01:22So we check the box and solve the problem there.
01:25The other thing we do is we use a heavy duty floor and we use replaceable inner walls.
01:31These inner panels, you see we got it up on this side and this side we don't.
01:34They just put up with Velcro.
01:36And if you get a lot of paint on these, you just take them off, blast them off in a pressure
01:40washer.
01:41Worst case is you get another set, you've still got clean walls where you can see in.
01:46And you've got D-rings and Velcro placed all around too.
01:48Right.
01:49We put the D-rings on the top so if someone wants to put some tie wire or a strap across
01:52and hang small parts, this airframe will hold it because you saw how strong this thing
01:57is.
01:58I mean, a 12-inch tube, I'm a big guy, I cannot bend that tube.
02:01An 8-inch is hard enough but a 12-inch, you're not going to bend it.
02:04It's very, very strong and durable.
02:06You mentioned the walls here, they are super heavy duty.
02:10So these are something you're going to want to clean and one thing you didn't mention,
02:13if you just say, oh I can just pressure wash the inside, well what happens to the water
02:16at that point?
02:17Yeah, so that's the problem with the other ones, you know, the water would get in that
02:19tube and then you're trying to clean that up and dry that.
02:22Well, we solved that because if you did pressure wash it while it's all in here, which you can
02:27do that, but the best thing is just take them off, lay them on the ground outside, pressure
02:31wash them off, put them back up, then you have no water trapped in the tube.
02:34You put it away, you got no mold, no mildew.
02:37And tons of light here coming in through, especially important to painters.
02:40And every painter has their own way to, no I want lights at the bottom, I want lights
02:44here.
02:45Well, you just put the lights where you want them on the outside and you get the light
02:48where you need it.
02:49And if you need a different vehicle that comes in, you're painting small parts, you just
02:53move the lighting around and you get it.
02:55But with this clear top, it's a big difference to get ambient light in here.
02:59We know it's easy to set up.
03:01We know that the ventilation is great.
03:03But what about durability?
03:04That's probably the first thing people are thinking when they see an inflatable paint booth.
03:07So if this is heavy duty PVC, this is not a material, this is not a fabric.
03:12So this is a sealed membrane and this is 0.60, this is very thick stuff.
03:18You're going to leave this earth and this will still be around.
03:21You may get a rip in the side or something, but it's easier repairable.
03:25The other thing we didn't mention is with our blower system is if you notice it's quiet
03:28in here.
03:30So when you get ready to paint, you just pull out our remote control and you hit this and
03:36then in seconds you've energized that and you've got fresh air moving in here and now
03:41you're done, you want it off, just turn it off.
03:43So you don't have that noise in the shop continually blowing because a lot of guys that buy this,
03:47they're not just painters, ceramic coating, detailers.
03:51Guys use this in their shop to put their car back together in a clean environment while
03:55the shop's out there welding and grinding it away.
03:57And so you need fresh air, you just turn it on and you like that, you've got fresh air.
04:01You talk about the durability and one last thing, the zippers, that's not a small piece.
04:06No, so you know, we don't do cheap.
04:09We use a special zipper made by us, by YKK, YKK is a premium zipper on planet earth.
04:14The zipper's made specifically for us and you saw how easy that zipper flowed when you
04:19open the door and that's a critical thing too.
04:21You don't want that thing bound up or taking more time to unzip a door.
04:26You got done painting your car and now you've got to keep it safe, how do you do it?
04:30Simple.
04:31What started it off?
04:32The showcase.
04:33So the showcase, drive in just like this, much smaller for your car, we make them in different
04:37sizes.
04:38Continuous air flow, continuous air change is going to give you a condensation-free
04:42environment.
04:43No dust, no dirt, no mold, no mildew, and no rodents.
04:47The vibration and frequency of our fan and power supply keeps the rodents away.
04:51So we check all the boxes, whether you're storing in a conditioned space, a non-conditioned,
04:55a farm building, a warehouse, you're covered in our showcase.
04:59Car Capsule has you covered.
05:00From painting your car to keeping it safe for life, go to carcapsule.com to find all of this
05:05and a whole lot more.
05:07Just ahead, clean your car's interior the right way.
05:10Also, keep mice from damaging your wiring and insulation and costing you a fortune.
05:15We'll show you how when Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products returns.
05:24Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Amsoil.
05:30Protection you demand, performance you deserve.
05:33No Rubber Products, get your ride sealed with steel.
05:38And by DeadScent, start treating your nose to better days.
05:44If you've got a motorcycle or maybe a classic car that sits around for a long time, maybe
05:48your daily driver is sitting out where mice can get to it.
05:51And mice love the wiring in cars.
05:53They love to find a cozy place.
05:55And when they get in their mat, they can cause thousands of dollars of damage.
05:57So you created Mouse Blocker, which protects your vehicle.
06:01We'll talk about the other things on this table, but first, I want to talk about something
06:04new.
06:05You're always listening to your customers.
06:06So what have they been asking for?
06:08We have stuff for cars.
06:10We have stuff for shops now.
06:12We have stuff for warehouses, lawnmowers, tractors, everything in between.
06:16We didn't have something for outside.
06:19So that's where we came up with the Mouse Blocker 360.
06:22So you're talking carports or maybe an RV or something like that?
06:26Exactly.
06:27You can place it under an RV now, under a camper, under a boat, in a carport.
06:33It's water resistant.
06:34It gets rained on.
06:35It's okay.
06:36And it can sit in the center there because you've got speakers all the way around.
06:40And how does it work?
06:41It goes all the way around.
06:42Long power cord now, so you can set it way underneath, whatever it is.
06:48This projects whisper quiet sounds, but heavy vibrations that disrupt the rodent's central
06:54nervous system.
06:55It makes it uncomfortable for them to be there.
06:58So again, the 360 keeps them out of the area, but this is the original Mouse Blocker here.
07:03This actually goes in the vehicle.
07:04So let's talk about how those work and how they work together.
07:05So what happens is if we only use this, sometimes inside the vehicle becomes a safe bubble in
07:12a violent space.
07:13So step one, yeah, we always recommend making that safe bubble violent and then the space
07:20around it, very uncomfortable.
07:23So they're designed really well to work together.
07:25And that goes with the Mouse Blocker 1000.
07:27That was our original large space unit and again, up to a thousand square feet.
07:32So a simple two-car garage, one of those coupled with the Mouse Blocker Pros keeps them moving.
07:39In today's vehicles, there's tons of wiring harnesses and engine covers and safe places
07:43for them to hide.
07:45But they're in there because it's warm, it's safe, and they're away from their predators.
07:50But they're also, they're aggravated because they're teething all the time, like a baby
07:55or a puppy.
07:56So they're looking for anything to chew on.
07:59Harnesses are everywhere, cause big, big problems.
08:03And what is, you know, some of the folks you're talking to that have RVs and maybe motorcycles,
08:07what kind of damage are we talking about here?
08:08What can a mouse do?
08:09Oh my gosh.
08:10I mean, is it, if they get into an RV or into a car, it's thousands of dollars.
08:16I mean, in some cases, it could be totaled, especially if you don't catch it quick enough,
08:22is that the rodents now multiply and then they're, they'll infest a space.
08:28Recap a little bit here.
08:29You have the Mouse Blocker Pro, which was the original Mouse Blocker, and those go inside
08:32the vehicle.
08:33So you've got two different versions of it.
08:35What's the difference?
08:36Yeah.
08:37So here's our 12-volt version.
08:38This is for your daily or weekly driver.
08:40So wires right to the battery, turns on automatically when you shut the vehicle off to protect the
08:46car.
08:47Long-term storage, something like this here that's sitting for a while.
08:51We have a plug-in version of it.
08:53Just plug it into an extension cord, a power outlet to protect that vehicle.
08:57So during the weeks where you're not, or during the winter when you're not driving your Corvette,
09:01you put it in there and look at the lights away.
09:02Exactly.
09:03What can a person hear when this is in their car?
09:04Great question.
09:05We're actually audible to many humans because we've maxed out the intensity, and these also
09:11include our proprietary eviction mode.
09:13So at 115 decibels, this is a serious deterrent.
09:18To us, it sounds like a little squeak, or almost like a little siren that you'll hear.
09:23But it's nice because then you know it's working when you walk past the vehicle.
09:27So then you work out from the inside of the vehicle, you want to protect your garage or
09:30your space.
09:31That's when you want to go to the 1000 here, and that's for indoor use.
09:34And then of course now we have the 360.
09:37And it's not just for carports and garages.
09:40Where are people using this?
09:41Basements, attics, barns, under mobile homes, under a boat, in RV parks, these are whisper
09:49quiet too.
09:50So it's not going to bother people.
09:53And I can just hear people out there saying, well, you know, I don't have a problem with
09:56mice.
09:57Why do I need a mouse block?
09:58Well, see, that's the thing.
10:00When you have a problem with mice, and now it's a big problem.
10:03And it's way harder to evict than it is to deter.
10:07And this is simple insurance.
10:08Well, Matt said it perfectly.
10:09It's a lot easier to deter mice than to evict them.
10:13Get the mouse blocker.
10:14Go to mouseblocker.com.
10:15John and Len are waiting in the wings to bring you another AMSOIL tech tip.
10:20And that is next on Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
10:23You are locked into Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products coming to you from
10:33the Mouse Blocker Studio.
10:35Mouse free for years now, thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
10:38Eric Dibner is an automotive technician and he knows how much damage mice can do if they
10:43get under your hood.
10:44So I've used bore scopes to find mice nets inside panels so I don't have to take the
10:52whole car apart.
10:53You know what I mean?
10:54So you start seeing weird codes or open circuits or shorts or you name it.
11:01You have to ask yourself, if you see mice, is it from them?
11:05Now you gotta start searching.
11:07It's huge.
11:09So, Eric recommends Mouse Blocker to all of his customers.
11:12He says it's a simple insurance policy that costs way less than having to repair damage
11:16to your wiring and insulation.
11:19Take advice from the experts.
11:20Go to mouseblocker.com.
11:22Get Mouse Blocker to protect what you love.
11:33Now this van came into the shop a while back and as you can see, it is nasty.
11:37I mean, the floor was dirty, the upholstery, all the plastic, the dash, everything about
11:43this van screams nasty.
11:45No worries.
11:46If you have a car like that or even if it's not as bad as that, Amsoil now has a line of
11:51car care products and have you covered.
11:53Don't worry about it.
11:54We're gonna start with the interior today.
11:56And Len, I got the lemon scent, light lemon scent and I can tell you, it smells good but
12:01it's not overpowering.
12:02Amsoil is great with oils.
12:04Now this, this is great.
12:06Yeah.
12:07You know, we want to be a one-stop shop and that means working with interiors and taking
12:13care of your vehicle, not just under the hood from a maintenance and lubrication standpoint,
12:16but also from an exterior interior cleaning standpoint as well.
12:19And we approach this the same way that we approach most things.
12:23We want to build something that's right.
12:24That's going to do the job reliably.
12:26That's going to give you some results that make the customers happy.
12:29Yeah.
12:30And tell me a little bit about it.
12:31It says here multi-surface use.
12:32I got a lot of things going on inside that car.
12:34I got the lemon scent.
12:36What about the protection and, you know, trapping odors and stuff like that?
12:39This, this product itself is designed to, it's not designed to just shine up the surface.
12:44This will go in and clean.
12:45It'll help lift dirt.
12:46It's going to leave the surface looking like it was when it's new.
12:49It's not going to put one of those artificial shiny slippery surfaces in there.
12:52It just lifts the dirt off, cleans it away, gives you some protection, and in your case, leaves behind a little bit of scent.
12:58Well, I know it works because we had that nasty van in the shop, Len, and we took it and we made it look like brand new.
13:03Check this out.
13:04Oh, there's our nasty van.
13:05All the debris in the front and the back, everything, man.
13:08The seats and the plastic.
13:10Boy, once we got done, though, it looked like new.
13:12Of course, we replaced the carpet.
13:14It was so shot we had to replace it.
13:15But look at the seats.
13:16Look at all the plastic.
13:17Look at the difference before and after shot.
13:20Absolutely amazing.
13:21And the good news is we got 90-day UV protection in there as well, so that van's like new.
13:26Now, if you've got a van or a car or anything that needs some interior cleaning, all you have to do is visit amsoil.com.
13:41My name is Mark Sturtevant, and this is my 67 Camaro.
13:51It was originally a drag car up in New Hampshire that my son brought home.
13:56It was pretty close to being ready for the junkyard when I rescued it, and that seems to be a bad habit of mine, rescuing unwanted cars.
14:06It keeps me out of trouble.
14:08I built the engine.
14:09It was the spare engine for my race car, and we put it into this car.
14:13The engine is a 350, 30 over.
14:16It's got a comp cams, big mother cam in it, roller rockers, Muncie four-speed.
14:22It's got a 12-volt posi with 355 gears in it, four-wheel disc brakes.
14:28It's quite a lot of fun to drive.
14:30It's a very unique year.
14:32It's the only year with a wing window.
14:34It's the only year that doesn't have side marker lights.
14:37My understanding is that Camaros are going to be obsolete after the end of this year.
14:43So, this is the first one, and I wish I could afford to buy one of the last ones.
14:48Henry Ford was known for perfecting the assembly line and making cars more affordable.
14:53But what was the first mass-produced car in the United States?
14:58You'll have to go all the way back to 1901 to Olds Motor Works.
15:03Ransom Eli Olds rolled out the curved Dash Olds.
15:07Only 425 were built, and they cost between $250 and $850.
15:14Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products is all about bringing you the latest and
15:18greatest aftermarket stuff for your vehicle, and there's still more in store.
15:22Stay tuned.
15:23Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by AP Laser, leading
15:34the way.
15:35Alcan Spring, finest handcrafted leaf springs on the planet.
15:41And by Tribotex, run longer, stronger, and cleaner with Nanotech.
15:47Now, this may look like a regular work truck.
15:51Oh, but it is not.
15:52It's actually a test bed for a lot of high-performance parts, and it comes to us courtesy of AFP.
15:58Now, tell me, Richard, how did your story in performance parts get started?
16:03I was at a truck meet, and really common for racing four-wheel drive trucks is you put limiting
16:10straps on the front end to keep it from picking up.
16:12And so I did that, and I was riding with a friend of mine, and he told me I had the worst
16:16riding truck he's ever been in.
16:18And so I took that to heart, so as soon as I got back home, I started working on a kit
16:22that I could do in my garage to bolt on a set of coil-over shocks to help with the ride,
16:26but still maintain the performance that I needed.
16:28So that evolved into these kits, which are essentially just bolt-on.
16:31Right.
16:32So they're all laser-cut, three-eighths or quarter-inch steel.
16:35There's no welding required.
16:36They allow you to bolt on a set of coil-overs from the 99 to 2018 GM trucks, which include
16:42the Silverados, Sierras, Tahos, Suburbans, Escalades from 99 and up.
16:47And what are some of the advantages of going to the coil-over system?
16:50One, it's a better shock, and so typically adjustable, so you can make it as firm or as soft as you like.
16:56Second thing is the springs are very easy to change, so if you want a really firm ride for handling
17:02or a really soft ride for drag performance, it's really easy to do and fully customizable.
17:07Another area that's really your bread and butter here are these motor mounts.
17:10Now, tell me what comes stock as far as motor mounts go on these trucks.
17:13So the stock motor mounts are usually made of rubber, especially in the 07 to 13 trucks.
17:18They're actually, it's a rubber shell filled with fluid.
17:21The problem is those wear out very quickly, and it's a very high replacement item,
17:25and so I make a replacement for that, which would be my poly motor mounts,
17:30and also make a solid version for that, and I have a lifetime warranty on these, lifetime guarantee.
17:35I've actually never had one fail, all the way up to 1,500 horsepower trucks.
17:39How often are folks changing motor mounts on trucks?
17:41I've had stories from customers that they say they change them every couple months,
17:46and as soon as guys are finished replacing their fourth, fifth, or sixth set of motor mounts,
17:50they finally hit the button and say, I want yours because I know I'll never have to replace them.
17:54Now, what's the difference between the poly mount and the solid mount there?
17:57So the poly mounts ride on a hard poly bushing like this with the center tubing,
18:02whereas the solid mount is just that, it's a solid chunk of steel,
18:06which there's absolutely nothing here to ever break or wear out,
18:09but both of them are very strong.
18:11I've never had any version of my mounts break,
18:13and usually I recommend the poly mounts for street driven vehicles.
18:17They're a little bit more forgiving, a little bit easier to install,
18:20but if you're a hardcore racer and you have hard mounted turbos, for instance,
18:24you'll probably want to go with a solid mount to keep your exhaust pipe from flexing.
18:28What kind of vibration am I going to feel with the poly mounts?
18:30Very minimal. I know poly mounts have sort of a bad reputation,
18:34but the only time you might be able to tell is a cold start at idle.
18:37Once it warms up or once you're driving around, it feels just like factory.
18:40Cool. And you've got the black here and, of course, the raw one here.
18:44What are my color options from you?
18:46Typically, the options are either I can paint it black.
18:49These are steel, so if they're not painted or powder coated, they will rust.
18:53If you want to do powder coating or painting yourself, I'm glad to ship it to you raw.
18:57I also have powder coating capabilities if you want a custom color that I can do as well.
19:01Speaking of custom here, this is a great-looking aluminum piece.
19:04Now tell me what I am looking at here.
19:06So this is a bracket for the TruCool 40,000-pound transmission cooler
19:10that's really popular in these trucks.
19:12This is an easy bracket to mount on the factory hood support that centers up the bracket,
19:17and it just makes it look better and makes it easy.
19:19Another great-looking aluminum piece right here.
19:21Looks familiar. Instrument cluster there.
19:23So this is a dash bezel piece specifically for the 99-06 trucks.
19:28I have two large gauges with four small ones cut here,
19:31but I also make a version you can use the new Holley digital dash,
19:35and any type of design you want, I can cut.
19:38I even made one that a guy wanted just plain switches all the way across.
19:41Didn't want any gauges, he just wanted switches.
19:43So you can do a custom job there.
19:44And another place where you can do some great custom work here is on your seat mounts.
19:47Absolutely. So when I was first building this truck, I wanted to put nicer seats in there
19:52because the stock ones were wore out.
19:53But there wasn't an easy way to do that,
19:55and so I came up with some aftermarket mounts like this
19:59where it's easy to bolt in a lot of the popular brand seats like Corbeau, Brahm, Sparco,
20:04and really I can make anything fit.
20:06Kirky's work also, really popular.
20:08Now the seat mounts look great, but what are some of the other advantages besides that?
20:12So when you get far enough into racing where you start to need a four or five point racing harness,
20:17you want a good, safe way to install that.
20:19And what most guys have done before is they will go to Home Depot,
20:23get some angle iron, weld it to their stock seat brackets,
20:25but that ends up being very heavy and not necessarily the safest thing to do.
20:29So my seat brackets take care of all that for you.
20:31They're usually lighter than the homemade version,
20:34plus I can customize the side to look like whatever design you want,
20:38any text, any design, I can usually make it work.
20:40And it also has very secure mounting points for a racing harness.
20:44Well if you're building one of these trucks from 1999 and up,
20:47Atomic FP is sure to have something for you.
