00:00All right, Jenny.
00:01Three, two, one, go!
00:06Yay!
00:09Perfect!
00:12For me and Dave, every day is a lot of moving parts.
00:16With five growing kids.
00:18No!
00:19Do not go in the house!
00:21All right, quick break up.
00:23Whoa!
00:23Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:25A working farm full of our beloved animals.
00:28Sometimes cows don't do what you want them to.
00:30It's the strangest thing.
00:31I think I have to go in and scoop some poop, too.
00:35A renovation business.
00:37What?
00:39And running two stores in our community of Northwest Arkansas.
00:43I think we did it.
00:44We definitely did it.
00:46We stay pretty busy.
00:48Ah!
00:48And sometimes a little stressed.
00:51God!
00:51Oh, my Lord, David!
00:53But when your job is helping your neighbors transform their lives...
00:58Oh, my God!
00:59By transforming the place they call home...
01:02Oh, my God!
01:05It's so pretty!
01:06Oh!
01:07It's not really work at all.
01:08Just another day in this crazy, beautiful life we call ours.
01:12Oh, my God!
01:13Thank you!
01:14You're doing it!
01:15Ha, ha, ha!
01:28Okay, we're here at the Legs.
01:30They live near us.
01:32And they have this really cute cabin.
01:34And so I'm super excited about this one.
01:36I love a good cabin in the woods.
01:37What's up, guys?
01:38Hey, guys!
01:39Hey!
01:39Hey.
01:39How are you guys?
01:40Good.
01:41Good to see you.
01:42Good to see you.
01:42Thanks for coming.
01:43Yes, of course.
01:44Good to see you.
01:44Good.
01:46What's the deal?
01:47What's happening?
01:47So this is going to be for my parents.
01:49Right?
01:49For my mom and my dad.
01:50They have never seen the inside.
01:51Okay.
01:53It's on trusses, so we just started tearing out all the walls.
01:55Sure.
01:55Only to realize that there was some mold.
01:59Multiple floors.
02:00There's definitely still a squirrel living somewhere in there, too.
02:03You can hear it running back and forth.
02:05Aw.
02:06At what point through this process did you then decide, you know what?
02:09We're going to just go.
02:09Let's make Dave and Ginny deal with this.
02:10Yeah.
02:11I think when Ginny said, what are you going to do with that house?
02:14I thought, well, I think that you should do that.
02:16Yeah.
02:16That was about the point.
02:18Yeah.
02:18I'm Laura, and this is my husband, Matt, and we've been married for 14 years.
02:22We have three kids.
02:23Hadley is 12, Camden K is 9, and Jack is 4.
02:26We have a dog, Max, who's a White Great Pyrenees.
02:29And I looked out one morning, and I saw two Maxes.
02:33I saw two White Great Pyrenees.
02:35And when I started to investigate it, it was actually one of them was Jack, Dave and Ginny's dog, had
02:42wandered over to our farm.
02:44The escape artist.
02:44He kept coming over about every four days, and we got to know Dave and Ginny a little bit better
02:49as they'd come and pick up their dog.
02:51We also have children the same age that enjoy playing together.
02:54So the property that we purchased is around nine acres.
02:58There's two homes on it, one in which our family lives in today, and the other one's going to be
03:02renovated here for Laura's parents.
03:04My dad's a large animal veterinarian in Oklahoma, and my mom is a speech pathologist.
03:09We just thought that would be a really cool opportunity for my parents, Tom and Debbie, to just be across
03:13the land from us, to be able to be in our children's lives daily.
03:17We had ambitions for renovating this house ourselves. When we kind of peeled back the layers, so to speak, it
03:24was clear we were in over our heads.
03:25Ginny came over and visited Laura, and...
03:27She would constantly ask, what are you going to do with the house? So it just seemed like the natural
03:31time now to let Ginny do her magic.
03:33That's super exciting. So you're going to tell us what you want, and we're going to do this without them
03:37having any input.
03:38Right. My mom had zero input on it. She's just...
03:41And she's okay with that.
03:41She's okay. She does not enjoy making decisions.
03:44Okay. Yeah.
03:44She also does not have a vision. So if she saw it right now, she would just see lighting on
03:49fire.
03:49She'd be overwhelmed.
03:50Yeah.
03:50It'd be overwhelming.
03:51Tear down.
03:51There's no way or no.
03:53Tear down. There's no way that this can be revitalized.
03:56Yeah. Okay.
03:56So I don't like the roof.
03:57Okay.
03:58I want to see this porch gone.
04:00We have a very tight budget.
04:01Okay.
04:02So I don't know what kind of porch you can add in.
04:04But at minimum, I want a gable over that door just welcoming and giving it some dimension.
04:11Something to define it.
04:11The door also enters into the kitchen.
04:13And so I'd like to see it moved over.
04:16Okay.
04:16I'm assuming, just looking at this house, we want new windows.
04:20And lots of them.
04:21So we said you have a tight budget. What is the budget?
04:23So the budget's $190.
04:24Okay.
04:25Not $191, Dave.
04:27So you guys started working on this. I see some colors here.
04:31So you tried these. Do you like any of these?
04:33Are these what you were thinking?
04:34So out of the three of these, I would say I liked this one the best.
04:38Yeah, that's pretty.
04:38I liked some green tone.
04:39Yeah. It's really pretty.
04:41It looks good with the stone.
04:42Matt loves the native stone.
04:44Yeah.
04:44Okay.
04:44I love the stone.
04:45I just don't know if we're going to have enough to cover the whole house and to fill in
04:49all of the holes.
04:50Would you be okay with siding?
04:52Yep.
04:52Yeah.
04:53What's the bell from?
04:54Okay.
04:54So this bell is from my grandparents' house.
04:57Aww.
04:58And I grew up going to my grandparents' house multiple times a week.
05:01Aww.
05:02And this bell was out at their property.
05:04And you would ring it to let my grandpa know dinner was ready.
05:07Oh, it's a dinner bell.
05:08And I thought it would be really cool for my mom.
05:10It was her dad.
05:11And I thought my mom would really enjoy it.
05:12Okay.
05:12I have great memories of like ringing it all the time.
05:15I love that.
05:16Okay.
05:16Yeah.
05:16Love the bell.
05:17What about this carport?
05:18Are we keeping this?
05:19So we'd like to add an extension on that side.
05:22We'd like to see a pantry, a laundry room, and a tornado shelter added on over here.
05:27Okay.
05:27Okay.
05:27So I'm doing the math in my head because 190, and we haven't even gone inside.
05:30I'm assuming there's a lot we have to do inside.
05:32Oh, it's terrible.
05:32Everything.
05:33Yeah.
05:34They obviously have done a few remodels themselves and at some point decided, hmm, we're
05:39not doing this.
05:39We're going to pass this off.
05:41So that's a, you know, that's a little bit of a flag as a contractor that you're looking
05:45for.
05:45And then it's just a, it's a small budget.
05:47But there's so much that we have to do.
05:49Oh, this is so nice.
05:51This is so peaceful.
05:52We have the swings out here.
05:53The kids love to be pushed on the swings.
05:55Yes.
05:56While we're out here, they would love to have like some kind of swing out here on the porch.
05:59Okay.
06:00Okay.
06:00So the plan for the exterior is we're going to move the front door.
06:04We'll have all new windows.
06:06Replace the siding.
06:08We'll expand the house to the covered carport.
06:11We'll get a new roof, touch up the landscaping, and hang the dinner bell.
06:18Love it.
06:19All right.
06:19I think that's a great idea.
06:20All right.
06:20Should we go inside?
06:21All right.
06:22Here we go.
06:24Okay.
06:25Wow.
06:26So this is it.
06:27So you guys did all this demo.
06:30You're actually standing in the old bedroom here, and then you can see on the floor where
06:35we removed the wall.
06:36We blew this out to make a wider space for a living room.
06:40We're actually moving the front door.
06:42You wanted to move it to maybe around here.
06:43Move it a little bit over.
06:45So when you walk in, I'd like to see the kitchen have enough space for a table here.
06:50Okay.
06:51And maybe we do like a little walkway out to a pantry and a laundry room.
06:54Okay.
06:55Okay.
06:55So we have a door right here going into those, even the fireplace.
06:59You like the fireplace?
07:00Yes.
07:01Just dressing it up better.
07:01Is there something we can do with the stone?
07:03It's darker in here.
07:04We could do a smear on it or something like that that lightens it up.
07:07Lightens it up.
07:08I'd love for it to be lighter.
07:09I really want the inside to still stay nice and light because we're dealing with short
07:12ceilings, tight space.
07:14Yeah.
07:15So if we have a hallway here, then this would be basically the dining room, and then that
07:19space is the kitchen.
07:20Yes.
07:20So when we push the door over, we'd have a little bit more space for a table to sit here.
07:25Sure.
07:25And maybe just a very small island.
07:27Okay.
07:27Just something else to work with for countertop space.
07:29Yeah.
07:30So we have living room.
07:31We'll have either a slider or French doors to access the porch.
07:35Lots of glass on that wall.
07:37We'll have new flooring, of course.
07:39We will paint.
07:40We're going to change up and move the front door.
07:42We will keep this wood-burning fireplace, but lighten it up so that it fits with the rest
07:48of the aesthetic.
07:48We will have a hallway here to the new, expanded part of the house.
07:53And then you have your kitchen here.
07:54Of course, we will actually add cabinetry, countertops, appliances, all the things to
07:58have a beautiful kitchen here for your family.
08:01Sounds great.
08:02Okay, so should we talk bedrooms?
08:03That'd be great.
08:04So I'm thinking a two-bedroom.
08:06And in our primary, I'd like to go ahead and have you finish that out so my parents could
08:10get in here a little quicker.
08:11Yeah.
08:11But then maybe in the other, to save some money on labor, we just white box that.
08:15And Matt and I come along later and finish it out.
08:17And maybe that bathroom as well.
08:18Oh, okay.
08:19Yeah, that makes sense.
08:20So you get all the plumbing, all the stops, all that kind of stuff on so that you can
08:24just go in.
08:25Get the electrical in.
08:25Perfect.
08:26Anytime a homeowner wants to do some work on some of the rooms, it will save the homeowners
08:32money.
08:33And it's decisions that Jenny and I don't have to make.
08:35But also, they can spend the current budget on everything that needs to take place in the
08:40house.
08:41And we can do the primary bedroom, primary bathroom.
08:43And then when they have the time and they have the money, they can do a phase two and
08:48go back and finish those other spaces that weren't priority.
08:52So it'll be a two-two.
08:53We'll white box one and we'll have you guys do the other.
08:55So it's going to be over here.
08:57Okay.
08:57So this is the primary suite for your parents.
09:00This will be the primary.
09:00Okay.
09:01It'll just be a real cozy space, but adequate.
09:03And then a hanging closet area.
09:04Okay.
09:05So we are putting either a slider or French doors, some way to access the porch.
09:09Do we want to do the same in the bedroom?
09:11I think it'd be awesome.
09:12Yeah.
09:12Do your parents have any preference on anything within this house at all?
09:15You know, I've never asked.
09:17What?
09:18We should call and ask them.
09:19All right.
09:19Let's ask her.
09:20Do you have your phone?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Let's call her.
09:21Yeah, I do.
09:22Okay.
09:23See if they answer.
09:25Hi.
09:26Hello.
09:27Hey, I'm with Dave and Jenny and we're talking about the house.
09:31And they asked what your desires of colors and style would be.
09:35And what are you thinking?
09:36Oh, connection's unstable.
09:38Hey, turn your wifi off.
09:40Oh, there they are.
09:41Yeah.
09:41Yeah.
09:42Okay.
09:43Do you guys have any color preferences for your bedroom?
09:45Oh, no.
09:50Can you hear us?
09:52I can hear you.
09:52Babe, you don't have to yell.
09:53Well, they're not dust.
09:55Do you guys have any color preferences for your bedroom?
09:58Psychologically.
09:59We like warm and inviting.
10:01Yeah, nice dark walls.
10:02Awesome.
10:03Well, we're excited to be working on this and we can't wait for you guys to come up and see
10:07it when it's done.
10:08We're way excited too.
10:09Well, yeah, I'm ready to go today.
10:12Don't come today.
10:13It doesn't look so good right now.
10:14So.
10:15Give us a little time.
10:16All right.
10:17Thanks for your input.
10:18Bye.
10:18Bye.
10:19Okay.
10:20So the plan for the main bedroom is, of course, we'll add the flooring that will match the
10:23rest of the house.
10:24We'll have a closet for storage and we'll go with nice dark moody bedroom.
10:30Great idea.
10:31Okay.
10:32So then let's talk about their bathroom and then we're set.
10:34Yeah.
10:35Okay.
10:35So this will be the new bathroom right here.
10:37The bathroom.
10:38Okay.
10:39So we'll have a door here.
10:40What would you like to see in the bathroom?
10:42Oh, careful.
10:42Is that?
10:43That's a hole.
10:44That's a hole.
10:44Don't fall back.
10:45Be careful.
10:45I love that light right there.
10:47That's pretty.
10:47I'd like to incorporate it somewhere.
10:49Yes.
10:49It's cute.
10:50I think it's really classic.
10:52I do too.
10:52I love that.
10:53All right.
10:53So this will be the bathroom.
10:54Everyone in your shower, a tub.
10:56So in one of the bathrooms, just a shower.
10:59Okay.
10:59Two sinks in the main.
11:00Two sinks in this one.
11:02Okay.
11:02We'll have an entrance from the main bedroom and we'll just make this warm and timeless
11:06and beautiful.
11:07I love it.
11:08Okay.
11:08Well, thank you for doing this.
11:09Yes, absolutely.
11:11All right.
11:11Thanks, thanks, thanks.
11:12Appreciate it.
11:13The budget's really, really tight for really having to touch the entire home.
11:18And that's just a bid not knowing what else we could get into.
11:21What rot, what mold.
11:23We don't know what other issues we are going to uncover.
11:25And that budget is going to dwindle very quickly, but there is potential.
11:29And I think it's going to be a lot of work, but it will definitely be worth it.
11:41Day one at the leg house.
11:43I mean, there was really nothing to clean out.
11:45So, see what we get into on this house.
11:52Hey, babe.
11:52What's up?
11:53Tim.
11:54Hey, hey.
11:54You look excited to be here.
11:55I'm ecstatic.
11:57You got your jorts on today.
11:59Look at the jorts.
11:59I'm ready.
11:59Oh, you can even see your pocket through them.
12:01Is that the new style?
12:02It's got a little design on the pockets, dude.
12:04Yeah.
12:04He said these are from when I was 18.
12:05So, did you got the shoes where they're frayed, too?
12:08Yeah, did you like that?
12:08Okay, guys.
12:09So, let's talk about this.
12:11This porch needs to go.
12:13Do we want to do that today?
12:14The inside's already demoed?
12:16Yeah.
12:16I mean, there's nothing in there.
12:17Yeah.
12:17Why don't we do that?
12:18Why don't we just try to rip this off?
12:19We don't even have to get tools out.
12:20We just rip it off the truck.
12:22I think we can rip this thing off, don't you?
12:24Oh, 100%.
12:25We've never failed before.
12:29Keep going.
12:30Keep going.
12:30Yay!
12:33Perfect.
12:34Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
12:35Go, go, go, go, go.
12:36Go, go, go, go, go, go.
12:40All right.
12:41Hey, you got to move your car out of the way,
12:42while we hook everything up.
12:43Okay, got it.
12:44I'll do that.
12:49So do you think the roof and the deck's going to come,
12:51or do you think just the deck's going to come off?
12:53Could go either way.
12:58It's getting tight.
12:59Not looking very strong.
13:03What happened?
13:04Oh, it pulled underneath?
13:06How did it do that?
13:08It pulled through the whole thing.
13:10It ripped through every single nail.
13:13I would have not thought that possible.
13:16Tie around this.
13:17See if it'll rip that whole post.
13:19Yeah, we can.
13:19Or just go right around the middle.
13:20Yeah.
13:26Oh, God.
13:29This is not going exactly as I had anticipated.
13:33Okay, how about we go around this corner?
13:35Yeah, let's take the post off.
13:37Yeah, see what happens.
13:38I don't think we're giving this house enough credit now.
13:40I don't think so either.
13:41We thought it was about to fall down.
13:42It's not.
13:47You've got to be kidding me.
13:52All right, let's try it one more time.
13:55Oh, my goodness.
13:56You're freaking kidding.
13:57That porch never even needed those posts.
13:59It is very securely strapped in there.
14:04Look at that.
14:05This is one of the most dramatic demos we've ever done.
14:09Hey, you guys get on that end.
14:16Look out!
14:21Look how quick that happened.
14:22Oil?
14:23Should we go look inside?
14:24This is not starting the way I wanted it to.
14:27Let's grab some pry bars and let's get at it.
14:33Okay.
14:33Hey.
14:34Power's off.
14:36Where's Dave?
14:38Right here.
14:38Back there saving the light.
14:39You guys got the porch off.
14:40I'd just like to know that nobody even noticed I left and came back.
14:43You guys even noticed I wasn't here?
14:45Well, we were actually thankful that you weren't here.
14:48It was embarrassing.
14:50It was really embarrassing.
14:51Well, Dave told me to move my car out of the way, so I just figured I should move it
14:55back home for a little while.
14:59Jenny, here's your light.
15:05Dave?
15:06Yeah?
15:06You didn't tell us that you would step holes through the floor back here.
15:10Did you fall through?
15:11Yeah.
15:12I've even been eating salads and trying to lose weight and I blew through the floor.
15:16Oh.
15:16Oh, my.
15:19Oh, no.
15:20Oh, no, though.
15:20You know what that means.
15:21Look at that stuff.
15:21Look at that's rot.
15:23That's just peeling.
15:25That's just completely rotten.
15:26And it's all up under that, too.
15:28Probably just take the saw all the way around the outer walls and peel it all up.
15:31How much is this going to cost?
15:32That's a lot of money.
15:33Probably 10 grand.
15:35I would say keep going for a minute.
15:37There's a lot of issues so far that we're uncovering in this house.
15:40It's just not looking good.
15:41It's not a good start.
15:42This is getting worse and worse.
15:52Okay.
15:53We're here at the legs.
15:54The guys should be inside adding in new floor joists because we had all of the rot that
15:59we found in the flooring.
16:01So we need to install the new joists so that we can then put new flooring in because we
16:06don't have a floor.
16:10Hi.
16:11How's it going?
16:12What's up?
16:13Is this the old stuff?
16:15Is it safe to stand on?
16:16Yeah, but that's actually...
16:16Is it safe to stand on?
16:16Just not where that ladder's at.
16:18Okay.
16:19That's actually somewhat sound.
16:20Uh-huh.
16:21This is a definite hit to the budget for sure.
16:24For real.
16:24I gotta go figure this out where we can save money.
16:27Well, and then we have...
16:28No, if there's more bad news, what?
16:30No, we don't wanna know.
16:31Well, the addition on the side, the ceiling was a foot lower than this so we just had to
16:35tear it all down.
16:36Should we talk to them about that addition?
16:38Like, do I need to ask them?
16:40Because this is costing so much, should we just not do the addition?
16:42The addition is just a laundry room, right?
16:44I mean, the pantry.
16:46Can we go look at that real quick?
16:47Seriously?
16:48Hold on.
16:49There you go.
16:50Alright, I'll be back.
16:51I mean, like, should we talk to them about just leaving this and not doing the addition?
16:56The addition is the square footage.
16:58I know, but...
16:59That's what adds the value to the house.
17:01I know, but it's gonna be an absolute fortune.
17:03That's what I'm saying.
17:05I think we need to ask them.
17:15I think if it were me and I was the legs, I would want the addition at least framed in,
17:21even if it didn't get finished.
17:23But the problem with that is then you have to do the exterior of that.
17:27You can't just have...
17:28I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
17:29It's so much money.
17:30It's not just the inside.
17:32I knew there was rot in this structure when we started in the kitchen, in the bathrooms.
17:37The legs had identified some of that prior to us starting.
17:41But once we got into it, everything needed to be completely pulled out, all new joists put in.
17:47And so, what was going to be a $10,000 demo is now turning into a, I think, probably $20
17:54,000 to $30,000 experience.
17:56This house, we've got to get the whole inside of this structurally sound and ready to go.
18:00Yeah.
18:00So let me just finish up everything in here.
18:03I can get a more definite number on, hey, this is just what we spent.
18:06Let's not call them until we know.
18:07Yeah.
18:08Okay.
18:09It's a lot of work.
18:16See you later, okay?
18:17Bye.
18:18Good girl.
18:20All right, I'm gonna go get these to Dave.
18:21I think he's been working on the porch swing today.
18:24Dave!
18:25Yeah?
18:26Look, our daughter is a horse hoarder, the way you're just a general hoarder.
18:32Look how cute these little horseshoes are.
18:33Clearly, they don't fit Sadie, they're just fun.
18:36How cute is this one?
18:37It's fun.
18:38So I was thinking, Laura's dad is a large animal vet, loves horses.
18:43The legs have miniature horses that they're wanting to move out to this property.
18:46So I was thinking, we get some horseshoes.
18:49There's three grandkids, so you could inlay three of these for the grandkids.
18:54You want them there?
18:54Well, that's what you want.
18:55I could do this, too.
18:56Put them on the front.
18:57But make them out of wood and inlay them.
18:59I think it would actually be cute if you didn't like three on the side like this.
19:02Laura's parents are moving here to be closer to the grandkids.
19:04They love horses.
19:05They have miniature horses.
19:08So we're going to have Dave try to make a horseshoe out of wood that we're going to inlay
19:13into the porch swing that's going to go on the new porch.
19:16Okay.
19:16I have to sand it at some point, but not now.
19:19Okay.
19:21That guy will inlay in there.
19:22I'll trim it to fit.
19:24Let me get a little drill bit and we can drill a few little holes in it.
19:28Yeah, look, it has like, this one has three.
19:38Cute.
19:39And then I can just take, I can inlay it.
19:42Yeah.
19:42And I'll get some little black screws, finished screws.
19:45And then I'll use the screws to set it in there like they're little nails.
19:48Cute.
19:56Hey guys.
19:58Oh, hey.
19:58Hey.
20:00Howdy, howdy.
20:01Okay.
20:01So that's why I called you over.
20:03So I told you we had some issues.
20:05Okay.
20:05We wanted to wait until all of this was fixed before we really got a good sense of what
20:10we're dealing with.
20:11There was rot.
20:12We had to replace everything.
20:15Laura, I think we're probably pushing an extra 10 grand in here on just replacing this entire
20:21floor system.
20:22That's a lot, Dave.
20:23Mm-hmm.
20:24I know.
20:25I mean, I think the biggest question is the only way to really save $10,000 is not to
20:30add the addition.
20:32I think we have to.
20:34Okay.
20:34I think we have to.
20:35Yeah.
20:35I think that, you know, there's several things there that we just don't want to cut
20:38out.
20:39But our child who was so scared of tornadoes has suddenly become not afraid.
20:44So I don't know.
20:46Maybe we talk about that.
20:47Change the shelter or just not do a shelter.
20:49Maybe not do one.
20:51We've done it before where we've done like inch and a quarter plywood and OSB on there.
20:55That's something that we can definitely do that's a lot less money.
20:58Yeah.
20:58And if we have a section without windows.
21:00Yeah.
21:00Maybe that's the pantry.
21:01We make the pantry more secure.
21:04Mm-hmm.
21:05I mean, it's not officially a storm shelter, but it would at least be more secure.
21:07That would save a ton of money.
21:08We're not going to do a certified storm shelter, and we're going to save the money
21:13there to make up for the cost of the floor joists.
21:16Yeah.
21:16Let's get back to work, Finn.
21:17All right.
21:18These unforeseen issues have put us a little behind schedule, but we're moving forward
21:22with the additions with, well, with footings, block, everything.
21:26And so we'll be back on track in no time.
21:29It's time for dinner.
21:33It's anti-climatic.
21:35No.
21:36You're not very good at this.
21:37Terrible.
21:40The bell tolls.
21:43I like it.
21:44The Legg family had this dinner bell on their property.
21:46It actually belonged to Laura's grandfather.
21:48Do you put this on the new roof of the porch?
21:52Do you brace it on the porch?
21:53I think we get some steel and we build like a L.
21:57In the yard.
21:57Or whatever, a U.
21:58Like a little hook.
21:59And then we just mount it in the yard.
22:00Then you can put it wherever you want.
22:01Yeah.
22:02And they mentioned it specifically to us that they wanted to install it at the cabin and
22:07use it again.
22:08Do you think we should replace this rope and make it something else?
22:12Because this rope's a little raggedy.
22:15I'll get some new rope.
22:16Oh, you know what you should get?
22:17What?
22:18They love horses and let their dad get abraded like horse lead.
22:22Oh, that's a really good idea.
22:23I know a lady who makes custom leads.
22:25That's a good idea.
22:26Like a rope?
22:27A horse lead rope?
22:28You want me to cut?
22:29I should probably cut some off.
22:30We're having two different conversations.
22:31Maybe a foot.
22:32I'll cut a foot off.
22:33Alright, I'll get the rope.
22:34Alright.
22:35You're welcome.
22:47So I checked and I found a photo of the same bell and Dave hung it upside down.
22:53So that's why it wasn't working.
22:55It wasn't my fault.
22:56Dave Mars!
22:57Yeah.
22:58Look at this.
22:59This is what the problem is.
23:01You have the bell upside down.
23:06It goes like this.
23:10And it's mounted like that.
23:12And then you ring it.
23:17Look.
23:18It says bell.
23:20Right side up now.
23:22It would have been upside down.
23:23Dave.
23:24Bell.
23:24So I didn't have to build any of this.
23:26All I had to have was a flat post.
23:29Yeah.
23:30Exactly.
23:33It's amazing.
23:37Shoot.
23:37The best part is neither of us noticed that it actually says bell.
23:42It's almost like in 1890 they were printing instructions for morons like me.
23:47This side up is basically what it said.
23:50I would expect you to miss something like that.
23:53But I should have never missed it.
23:54I'm leaving.
23:57You can't even tell it's the same blanks.
24:00Oh, the solar blanks.
24:02It's amazing.
24:03That's so good.
24:04It's so great.
24:13We're here at the leg house.
24:15I mean, we're getting there.
24:16We've got the sidings going up.
24:18I'm sad because we did not have enough stone to wrap the whole house once we replaced these windows and
24:24added on the addition.
24:26So we actually had to remove the stone altogether.
24:29I think the stone was kind of charming, but we're going to still make it charming.
24:32We're going to add charm back in.
24:38So Laura's parents are in town.
24:40Her dad, Tom, is actually a vet.
24:42So he just agreed to stop by and take a look at Sadie.
24:47Charlotte!
24:48Mr. Tom's here.
24:49Oh, okay.
24:50Okay, come on.
24:51Hi, Helen.
24:51Hey, guys!
24:53Hi!
24:53The whole crew's here.
24:54Look.
24:55All right.
24:56Hello.
24:56This is Charlotte.
24:57Hi, Charlotte.
24:58Nice to meet you, Mr. Tom.
24:59I'm Dr. Tom.
25:00Nice to meet you.
25:01Our vet, he's been booked on his farm calls.
25:03And since Charlotte is friends with Laura's daughters, her dad, Tom, offered to come over and help us out.
25:08Sadie!
25:09So you're getting ready to go to some play days.
25:11You need to have her blood tested for the equine infectious anemia.
25:16Charlotte wants to take Sadie in to do some rodeo rides.
25:20And we have to do this test before she's allowed to take her to make sure she's healthy.
25:24Well, she looks really nice.
25:25You take good care of her.
25:26Oh, good.
25:28Well, we got the blood sample.
25:29Okay.
25:30We'll send it to the lab.
25:31Okay.
25:31And the lab will have it done in less than a week.
25:34Okay.
25:34Amazing.
25:35You're quite welcome.
25:36Thank you so much.
25:37Good girl.
25:37All right.
25:38Well, thank you, guys.
25:39Enjoy your visit.
25:40How long are you in town?
25:41A couple days.
25:43Oh, good.
25:43We're anxious for this house to get done so we can stay longer.
25:46Yes.
25:47Yes.
25:47It's been an adventure.
25:49Yeah.
25:50I don't know if Laura's told you.
25:51But we're getting there.
25:52Now we're on the upside.
25:53That's great.
25:53Now it's all up from here.
25:59We are finally seeing noticeable progress at the house.
26:03We are putting in flooring, sheetrock.
26:06I think it will be a really cool finished product, but it's not easy.
26:16All right.
26:17Ready, Shaw?
26:17Yeah.
26:18Okay.
26:18We're here at Christy's place.
26:22They make custom polters.
26:25Okay.
26:25So she's actually going to make us a custom lead rope for the legs dinner bell.
26:32Hi.
26:33Hi.
26:34Hi.
26:34Wow.
26:35Hello.
26:36Come in.
26:37How are you?
26:38Good to see you.
26:38Hi, great.
26:39Nice to see you.
26:39Oh, what is this?
26:41How did you get this?
26:41What is this?
26:42Believe it or not, I had one.
26:43No way.
26:44It's my great grandfather's.
26:46Oh my gosh.
26:46And I think it's the same era.
26:48Yes.
26:48This is just like the bell that the legs have.
26:51So they have a dinner bell from Laura's grandpa.
26:54Okay.
26:55And it has this really old ratty kind of rope on it.
26:57Rope on it.
26:57So I was like, they love horses, they have horses, and they would, I thought it'd be
27:01really fun to do.
27:02Oh, absolutely.
27:02A lead rope to pull the bell.
27:04Absolutely.
27:04So I brought Charlotte to help me pick out.
27:06The color.
27:07The color.
27:08The style.
27:09They have girls in their families.
27:10Okay.
27:11But they also have a boy.
27:12What about this one?
27:13It has like blue and purples.
27:15That one down there.
27:16I do like this one.
27:16Oh, that's cute.
27:17But that's really bright.
27:18Maybe not so bright.
27:19Oh, what about this?
27:21Do you like that?
27:22Okay, I guess you do.
27:23This one I think is nice.
27:24All right.
27:24Okay, so do you think this is going to work?
27:26Yes, I do.
27:27We just...
27:28Yes.
27:29It'll work.
27:29We do this rope.
27:30I love it.
27:31On the end, would you like it rolled like this?
27:34Yeah.
27:34Would you like us to put a piece of leather on the bottom?
27:37You could do that.
27:37You could do that.
27:38Oh, leather.
27:38Like this.
27:39Sure.
27:40Because lead ropes typically have these on the bottom.
27:42If you want it to look like a lead rope, we could put a popper on it.
27:44Yes.
27:45Yes.
27:45So pretty.
27:46You were right, Char.
27:47You were right.
27:48And it would look good with that color, too.
27:50Very pretty.
27:51Okay.
27:51We'll blend with it.
27:53Love it.
27:54I feel like this was super successful.
27:55I think the legs are going to love their bell and their lead rope.
27:58I mean, the best part is the bell is no longer upside down.
28:00So, I mean, win all around.
28:02With just three weeks left in our construction schedule, we're finishing up the exterior of
28:07the leg house with hardscaping and paint.
28:09So, it's going to be a deep green.
28:11It's going to look really natural like a cabin in the woods.
28:13Progress is continuing inside as well, with cabinetry being installed in the kitchen and
28:18bathrooms.
28:20Hey, babe.
28:21Hey, baby.
28:23Well, hey, Banana.
28:24Banana knows where she could find Dolly.
28:26She's been looking everywhere for her.
28:28I keep looking over and expecting to see her sitting in the sawdust, the pile of sawdust,
28:32but no go.
28:34I can't think of a time I ever came out here where she wasn't out here with you.
28:37I know.
28:37She loved it.
28:38But she's in a better place.
28:40We had taken Dolly to the vet.
28:42You know, she went to the vet once a month.
28:43I took her every month.
28:44Yeah.
28:44She got her hip shots.
28:46She got steroid shots for her hips, but it was different.
28:48Her back legs just weren't working anymore.
28:51We brought it to the vet to see if there's anything else we could do because she was
28:54on all sorts of stuff for her arthritis and thought maybe there was something more we
28:59could give her, but there wasn't.
29:03There wasn't.
29:04There wasn't.
29:04There wasn't.
29:04But she did get Hershey Kisses.
29:06She got a lot of chocolate, which was awesome.
29:08The vet said every dog should have chocolate before they go to heaven.
29:12And so we got to feed her Hershey Kisses.
29:14We were all with her.
29:15She felt safe and comfortable and she was eating chocolate.
29:20So, you know, we have her collar.
29:22So I was thinking maybe we could build like a little frame or like a little box and we
29:27could put it up, hang it next to her painting on the wall.
29:29Sure.
29:30Wouldn't that be cute?
29:31Yeah, that would.
29:32Dolly came into Jenny and I's world, our family's world, about 10 years ago.
29:36Yeah.
29:37She was a rescue then.
29:39And, you know, we really didn't know at that time, they said she was 8, 9 years old,
29:44kind of how long she had.
29:46Should I bring out that painting that Nate did of her?
29:49And you could put a little, we need to put a hanging thing on it.
29:52You could hang it next to it.
29:53Yeah.
29:54All right, I'll be right back.
29:55Then she just, you know.
29:57She had a whole second half.
29:58Whole second life.
29:59And she lived large, slept 18 to 20 hours a day.
30:04If you were to ask Dolly the rules for living, they would be sleep and eat whatever.
30:09You find it, you know, a dead animal outside, I'll bring it home.
30:13Isn't that so good?
30:15I can't remember how old he was.
30:16I think this was like three years ago who did this.
30:19I think he was 12.
30:21She was always...
30:22We were very blessed to have her in our family for as long as we did.
30:25She was the best.
30:29You're gonna stay?
30:30Mm-hmm.
30:32Aw.
30:33Her little paw print and her little nose print.
30:36Yeah.
30:39Miss your shoe, huh?
30:41Okay.
30:42So I gotta wire it, so it's just sitting there right now.
30:45Banana now, that's at your height.
30:47You can look at Dolly whenever you want, babe.
30:49What do you think, banana?
30:51Oh, gosh.
30:52Wanna go out?
30:53Let's go outside, come on.
30:55Looks good.
31:03Okay, I think maybe, like, in here feels nice.
31:07So they can see it from the porch.
31:09Hang on.
31:10Yeah, that's cute.
31:11That good?
31:11That's good.
31:13So we've got the post hole digger.
31:16We're gonna install this metal post where we're going to attach the dinner bell from Laura's family.
31:22I wanted it in sight of the front door, but not blocking the view.
31:28That good?
31:29Watch this.
31:30Look at this new tool I just bought.
31:31You ready?
31:38How much do you want it in there?
31:39That's good, I think.
31:40Go check and see if the height's good.
31:41I don't know.
31:41You better get the bell.
31:43So you like this right here?
31:46That's good?
31:46Let me see.
31:47You're gonna go up on the deck and look at it?
31:49Yeah, I think if it's any shorter, it kind of gets lost.
31:51I think it's cute.
31:54I don't know.
31:54I'll just let the top part.
31:56I'll face the rest later.
31:59Jenny, I could be a panger.
32:00Holy cow.
32:01Huh?
32:02I could totally be a panger.
32:10Ma!
32:11Dinner, Daddy!
32:13Ma!
32:13Get on in here!
32:14You like it?
32:15Yeah.
32:16Man, that's the best post hole I've ever done.
32:18Do you guys buy this together?
32:19Yeah.
32:19What house is it being stored at?
32:21Jenny.
32:22Dad always said it only costs 85% more to go first class.
32:25Yeah.
32:25We went first class.
32:26You never fly me first class.
32:28We can't because we bought that post driver.
32:32All right.
32:33Let's go.
32:33Let's go in.
32:33Well, we gotta hang the porch swing.
32:42Okay.
32:43It's coming.
32:45All right.
32:45So, down this hall, this is the addition.
32:49We have nice big room here, big extra spaces for storage.
32:55So, that's gonna be beautiful and just functional, really.
32:58But that's nice down the hall.
33:00Nice, moody, dark bedroom.
33:02So, this is the main bathroom.
33:05Tile still needs to go up.
33:07We have car siding going along the wall.
33:10I have really fun sconce.
33:11This is where I'm gonna hang that old light as well.
33:14Yeah.
33:14This is gonna be cool.
33:16How's the swing?
33:18It's good, babe.
33:19You like it, Jenny?
33:19Oh, it's cute.
33:20We were gonna let you sit in it first just to make sure.
33:23Gee, thanks.
33:23This always reminds me of Jenny when she was on the rope swing.
33:27Mm-hmm.
33:27We don't talk about that.
33:30Ah!
33:31Oh, God, Dave, it's slipping.
33:33It's slipping.
33:34Oh, it is slipping.
33:35But I've learned my lesson.
33:36That's why I don't test these out anymore.
33:40It's cute, though.
33:42Did you see the little horseshoes in it?
33:45Yeah.
33:46Isn't that cute?
33:46That's so cool.
33:47Yeah, it looks good.
33:48I also want to see the dining table.
33:50I saw you brought it.
33:51I did.
33:51Yeah.
33:51You want to help me carry that in, then you can leave?
33:54Yep.
33:56You good?
33:57Yep.
33:58All right.
33:59This table looks good.
34:01Yeah, I built that.
34:03It fits this house perfect.
34:05Oh, it looks so cute.
34:07Oh, I love it.
34:08Three by six.
34:09Yes.
34:09It's so cute.
34:11Yeah, no, it fits perfectly.
34:12And I love the style.
34:14It's very dainty.
34:15Yeah.
34:15It's super cute.
34:15We gotta paint that, too, don't we?
34:17Well, so I was thinking of doing, just filling in all the mortar and making it lighter, but then
34:23maybe doing a light wash on the stone, just because you have all this orange.
34:27All right, man.
34:28We got a lot to do.
34:29Take care of you guys.
34:29All right, bye.
34:30Thanks, Matt.
34:32Things are winding down.
34:34We are getting close to giving this back to the leg family.
34:37Right there.
34:39But we've got last minute projects to finish up in several spaces.
34:44We've come a long way, but we've had a lot of bumps in the road.
34:47And we're racing against the clock now, because Laura's parents are coming to see the house
34:51in less than a week.
34:52I feel like once we bring furniture in here, the art and all of the decor, it will help
34:57to make this home feel like a home.
35:05We are here.
35:06We have finally made it to the end.
35:09We made it.
35:10Oh, man.
35:11This thing's on full throttle, Jenny.
35:12Full throttle.
35:13Look at that.
35:14Okay, okay.
35:15Babe, come on.
35:15We gotta go.
35:17This one.
35:17From the start, we have hit just problem after problem.
35:21I mean, this house has changed completely inside.
35:24I mean, we had to go all the way down to the studs.
35:25There was no floor at one point.
35:27We had to go down to the dirt floor.
35:28Yeah.
35:28We had to take out everything on this house.
35:30This is a brand new house.
35:31But all this doesn't matter.
35:33It's done.
35:33It's so cute.
35:33I love how the fireplace turned out.
35:35Yeah, it turned out really good.
35:37It's really soft.
35:37The whitewashing is good.
35:38The new mantel.
35:39It's very pretty.
35:39I feel like this house, it's going to be something that these grandkids, grandparents, having everyone
35:45close together, there's going to be a lot of memories made in this house.
35:48Yeah, it is.
35:49It's the dream.
35:50Yeah.
35:52Are you guys nervous?
35:54No.
35:54I'm excited, nervous.
35:55I'm excited, nervous.
35:56I'm excited.
35:57We've been wanting to come over and see it so much.
35:59We've talked about it a lot.
36:00Well, I think the kids are super excited about this.
36:04Grandchildren's sleepovers, huh?
36:06Yeah, we'll just send them over.
36:08There we go.
36:09They're there?
36:10Let's go.
36:10Okay.
36:12You can't even tell it's the same place.
36:19Hello.
36:20Hello.
36:22What did you do with the old house?
36:24This is a brand new house, right?
36:28Hi.
36:29Hi.
36:30Oh, my God.
36:30Thank you, Jenny.
36:31I'm so excited.
36:34All right, come on over here.
36:35Come on, let's go.
36:36Let's check it out.
36:36And I don't know if you noticed anything else in the yard.
36:39Yes.
36:40The bell.
36:41The bell.
36:42Oh, yeah.
36:42I love it.
36:43It was fun to ask.
36:44When I was little, I used to sit there and yank on this bell forever.
36:47Aw.
36:48This would make them come in.
36:50Yeah.
36:51Yeah.
36:52So I had a friend, so Christy, a friend who makes horse leads and bridles, she actually
36:56made this.
36:57This is actually a horse lead.
36:58Yeah.
36:58So it kind of tying back into the horse farm and the business.
37:02And you can be out here ringing the bell and the kids can come running.
37:05Yeah.
37:06And then the house.
37:07Okay.
37:07It's a little bit different.
37:09Oh, wow.
37:09So good.
37:10So good.
37:11Great.
37:12That's my color.
37:13Yeah, yeah.
37:14I love it.
37:15And it's very cabin-y, but cozy.
37:17Yeah.
37:17Yeah.
37:18Originally, the bottom half of the house was stone.
37:20We talked about keeping that.
37:21Yeah.
37:21But once we added this little addition, we didn't have enough.
37:23So we got rid of the stone, but we did keep it on the fireplace, which is a nice little
37:28nod to what it was.
37:30Yeah.
37:30I like it without and just the touch up there.
37:32Okay, good.
37:33So good.
37:33Love it.
37:34You ready to go inside?
37:35Beautiful.
37:35Okay.
37:36After you guys.
37:37These look so good.
37:38I like these steps, too.
37:39I'm excited.
37:42Oh, my goodness.
37:44Oh, it's a dream.
37:48I love it.
37:49Oh, the fireplace.
37:49This is great.
37:51Oh, my gosh.
37:52The fireplace.
37:53That's so cool.
37:53Oh, my.
37:55It's amazing.
37:56That's so good.
37:57It's so great.
37:59I did like the stone, of course, because it was original and it was pretty, but I mean,
38:02it was just dark and the grout was really heavy.
38:06And there was, like, orange on the stone, so it really wasn't salvageable.
38:09So we tried to just lighten the grout.
38:10Then I was like, no, we got to whitewash this whole thing.
38:12And then it wasn't enough, so we did another layer.
38:14And now it feels really warm.
38:17You can still have the texture of the stone.
38:18Yes, the texture is white.
38:19But then this white oak mantle.
38:20And, of course, we had to incorporate the horse.
38:22Love it.
38:23And then Dave made this.
38:25Yeah, I built you guys a table that fits the area.
38:27I love it.
38:27It's perfect.
38:28He built it?
38:29Yeah, it's an elm.
38:30Jenny wanted something that looked older.
38:32This is perfect.
38:32I love it.
38:33And then, of course, the kitchen.
38:35The colors are amazing.
38:37That's the first thing I noticed.
38:39Yes.
38:39Like, I could not have dreamt for better colors.
38:42It's so good.
38:43The countertops are amazing.
38:44I like it.
38:45You did such a great job.
38:46This is good.
38:47So good.
38:47You did it.
38:48Oh, thank you.
38:50It's so good.
38:51It's so good.
38:52It's awesome.
38:52It's very cozy.
38:53And the windows are massive.
38:54They're big windows.
38:56That's awesome.
38:57Well, I love the light that comes in.
38:59Yeah.
38:59Yeah.
39:00I mean, he never wants to be indoors anyway.
39:03Yeah.
39:03Yeah, exactly.
39:04See out.
39:05I feel the exact same way.
39:07Yes.
39:07Same.
39:08Okay.
39:08And check out the living room.
39:10This is really pretty.
39:11I love it.
39:12This is great.
39:13This whole space felt tiny when we first started.
39:16Oh, my God.
39:16Remember?
39:17And now I feel like it doesn't feel good.
39:19Yeah.
39:19It feels like a great-sized space, especially for the two of you to enjoy and have the kids
39:24over and do sleepovers, like we said.
39:26So great.
39:27Okay.
39:28Into your bedroom.
39:29Go check it out.
39:29Cool.
39:29Okay.
39:31Oh!
39:33Very cool.
39:34I love that.
39:35It is great.
39:36It's awesome.
39:37It's nice.
39:38It'll make a good sleep.
39:39I love the deep moodiness.
39:41Yes.
39:42Very cozy.
39:42I think it's so great.
39:43Yes, it is.
39:44We brought in some vintage pieces, have the wood, just add some texture in here.
39:50Just a very cozy space.
39:51And of course, most importantly, you've got your doors outside.
39:54So in the morning, you can go right outside.
39:56Yeah.
39:58You also have your new bathroom.
40:00So we're going to get out of your way because it's a little tight, but you go on in.
40:02Go ahead, Debbie.
40:03Oh!
40:04It was...
40:05Oh!
40:06The shower!
40:07I've never got such a reaction out of a bathroom.
40:09It's fantastic.
40:10I love this bathroom.
40:12Oh, I love it.
40:13Nice.
40:14This is huge.
40:15Yeah, the shower is nice.
40:16Yeah.
40:17This is pretty.
40:17Isn't it pretty?
40:18Tons of storage.
40:19You have an extra stack here.
40:22Yeah.
40:22Ginny, is this...
40:23Yeah.
40:24It is.
40:25This is the original light.
40:27Yes!
40:28Yes!
40:29I love that light.
40:30Oh!
40:31That was in the other.
40:32And I just thought it was super cool.
40:33Yes.
40:34It was like the only thing that was worth saving.
40:37It's just perfect.
40:38Super cool.
40:38Okay.
40:39Awesome.
40:39And then we have one more space.
40:41Should we come out here?
40:41Yes.
40:42All right.
40:42Let's go this way.
40:44All right.
40:45After you.
40:47Oh, that is amazing.
40:49I love the room.
40:50Oh!
40:50It's so great.
40:51It's a swing.
40:52Oh, my goodness.
40:54Oh.
40:55I love that.
40:57Oh, look at the cute little horseshoes.
40:59Yay!
40:59Oh, look what happened.
41:01Not for the grandkids, you know, you got to have a...
41:03One for each of them.
41:04One for each of them.
41:05They built this for you.
41:07And we feel like you're going to spend a lot of time here watching the grandkids play.
41:10Yeah, it's a perfect spot to start and end the day.
41:13And really just taking the view.
41:14I mean, this really is just...
41:15Yeah.
41:15This is the spot where you want to be.
41:16Yeah.
41:17Love it.
41:17Yeah.
41:17So great.
41:18All right.
41:19Well, I hope you love it.
41:20Welcome to Arkansas.
41:22Enjoy your grandkids.
41:23Enjoy the space.
41:24So glad you guys get to have them so close by.
41:26Oh, yeah.
41:26Thank you for letting us be a part of this.
41:29There were many times I was not thanking you for letting us be a part of this.
41:33But it ended great.
41:34I can't believe you.
41:35Ah, neighbor.
41:37All right.
41:38All right.
41:39Bye.
41:40Bye, guys.
41:43For my parents to be able to come and have their own space, we're really excited to have them
41:47here.
41:48I can't imagine it being any better.
41:50Seeing it today, it's absolutely the right choice.
41:53It turned this house from an eyesore to an absolute amazing experience and kind of a center point
41:59for our property.
42:00Come in.
42:01Hey.
42:02Hey.
42:03Welcome to our home.
42:04Happy new home.
42:06Jack, what do you think?
42:08Do you like your home?
42:09What do you think?
42:10Isn't that beautiful?
42:11It's different, huh?
42:12It is.
42:13It's going to be awesome.
42:14They're super excited.
42:15We're super excited.
42:16Yeah.
42:16The kids are excited.
42:17It's a win for everybody.
42:18And Mr. Dave made this table.
42:21He did.
42:22Look at this table.
42:22This is out of home.
42:23He did.
42:24This is just beautiful.
42:27And it just, it looks so natural in this, you know, the outdoors.
42:31It's just great.
42:32Did you see the swing?
42:34Isn't that great?
42:35Isn't that awesome?
42:36So, Mr. Dave built this.
42:38And do you notice what he did down here?
42:40He put three horseshoes, one for each of you.
42:42Okay.
42:43Our family is such an important part of our life.
42:47It is our life.
42:48And so to be here and to watch them grow and to be together in such a wonderful space is
42:56just
42:56like a dream come true.
43:01Good boy.
