00:00Isometric RPGs hit different. There's something about that top-down view that just pulls you in,
00:04hundreds of hours gone before you even notice. I've lost entire weekends to these games,
00:08and honestly, no regrets. So here's 15 PS5 isometric RPGs that absolutely destroyed my
00:15free time. And yeah, they'll probably destroy yours too.
00:19Look, I'm just gonna say it. Baldur's Gate 3 might be the greatest RPG ever made,
00:24and I don't throw that around lightly. Larian Studios basically looked at everything we
00:28thought was possible in the genre and said, hold my ale. You're shipwrecked, infected with a mind
00:33flayer tadpole that's slowly turning you into a tentacle-faced nightmare, and somehow that's
00:38just the opening hook. The freedom here is absolutely insane. Want to talk your way out
00:43of a fight? Go for it. Want to shove the main villain off a cliff in Act 1? The game just
00:48adapts. I've put over 200 hours into this thing, and I'm still discovering new dialogue options,
00:53new solutions, new ways to completely break encounters in the most satisfying ways possible.
00:58The companions are genuinely some of the best written characters in gaming. Asterion alone
01:03deserves his own spin-off. Combat uses actual D&D 5th edition rules, and if you've never experienced
01:09the joy of landing a critical hit with a paladin smite, you haven't lived. The PS5 version runs
01:14beautifully, and yes, you can play the entire thing in co-op with up to four friends, which
01:19turns it into absolute chaotic brilliance. If you only play one game on this list, make it this one.
01:24Seriously. Before Baldur's Gate 3 existed, this was the gold standard, and honestly,
01:30it still holds up ridiculously well. Divinity. Original sin. Two is what happens when developers
01:36genuinely trust players to figure things out. You're a sorcerer, which sounds cool until you
01:41realize everyone wants you dead for it. The elemental combo system here is chef's kiss. Like, you can
01:46electrify water puddles, set oil on fire, create poison clouds, and then ignite them. Fights turn into these
01:53beautiful disasters where half the battlefield is on fire and somehow you're winning. What really
01:57gets me, though, is the origin characters. Each one has a fully voiced, completely unique storyline.
02:03Playing as Fane, an undead scholar hiding his skeletal face, is a completely different experience
02:08than playing as the Red Prince. An exiled lizard royal with an ego the size of a continent. The writing
02:14is sharp, often genuinely funny, and doesn't hold your hand. You will get stuck. You will wander into areas
02:19way too high level for you, and when you finally crack that impossible fight, nothing else feels
02:25quite like it. The PS5 version is the definitive way to experience this, and four-player co-op
02:30makes it even better. Absolute must-play.
02:33Okay, so here's the thing about Hades. I bought it thinking I'd play for maybe an hour.
02:38That was 150 runs ago. Supergiant Games created something genuinely special here. You're Zagreus,
02:44son of Hades, and you're trying to escape the underworld to find your mother. Simple premise,
02:49right? Except you're going to die. A lot. And every single death matters, because that's when
02:55the story actually progresses. You'll have conversations with Achilles, flirt with both
03:00Thanatos and Magera, pet Cerberus, yes, all three heads, and slowly piece together this incredibly
03:06emotional family drama. The combat is fast, fluid, and feels absolutely incredible on a controller.
03:12Each weapon completely changes how you play, and the boons from the Olympian gods let you build
03:17wildly different runs every time. One run you're a lightning-infused speedy nightmare. The next
03:23you're causing hangover damage with Dionysus and making enemies drunk. The art style is gorgeous,
03:27the voice acting is phenomenal, and the soundtrack? I still listen to it while working. Hades proves
03:32that roguelikes can have incredible narratives without sacrificing that addictive one-more-run
03:37gameplay loop. It's basically perfect. Diablo is back, and Sanctuary has never looked this
03:43terrifyingly beautiful. Diablo 4 takes the series into a darker, grittier direction, and I am absolutely
03:51here for it. Lilith, the daughter of Hatred, has returned, and she's easily one of the most compelling
03:57villains in Blizzard's history. The campaign alone is worth the price of admission, with some genuinely
04:02disturbing questlines that stick with you. But let's be real. You're here for the loot. And oh,
04:07the loot. There's something primal about watching legendary items explode from a boss corpse while
04:12your screen fills with numbers. The five classes all feel distinct and satisfying, though personally?
04:17Necromancer with an army of skeletons is peak gaming. The open world is massive, shared with other
04:23players, and packed with dungeons, world bosses, and random events that keep things fresh. Seasonal content
04:30keeps evolving the game, adding new mechanics and reasons to come back. Yesbot, it's a live service
04:35game with a cash shop. I know, I know, but the core gameplay loop is so satisfying that I keep
04:40returning anyway. On PS5, it looks stunning and runs smooth as butter. If you want that classic kill-loot
04:47upgrade dopamine hit, Diablo 4 delivers in spades. Alright, I need you to trust me on this one,
04:53because Disco Elysium is unlike anything else on this list. Or anywhere else, really. There's no combat?
04:59None. You're a detective who wakes up with the worst hangover in human history. No memory of who
05:04you are and a dead body hanging in the backyard of your hotel? What follows is 40-plus hours of the
05:09best writing in video game history. Your skills are literally parts of your psyche. Your electrochemistry
05:15wants you to do drugs. Your inland empire makes you talk to your necktie. And your authority affects
05:21how intimidating you are. They all have opinions, and they all argue with each other constantly.
05:25It's like having a dozen unreliable narrators in your head at all times. The final cut added full
05:31voice acting for every single line, and it's phenomenal. You can be a superstar cop, a sorry
05:36cop, a communist cop, a fascist cop. The game lets you be genuinely terrible or surprisingly kind.
05:43I've never played anything that made me feel this scene, this called out, this deeply understood.
05:49It's philosophical without being pretentious, heartbreaking without being manipulative. Play it.
05:54Please. It'll change how you think about what games can be.
05:57If you thought Diablo 4 was deep, Path of Exile 2 looks at that depth and laughs maniacally.
06:03This is the ARPG for people who genuinely enjoy spreadsheets. And I mean that as the highest compliment.
06:10Grinding Gear Games has basically rebuilt the original from the ground up, and the result is staggering.
06:16The skill gem system returns, but now it's even more flexible, letting you create builds that feel genuinely yours.
06:22Want to be a witch who summons an army of flaming skulls while also shooting ice projectiles?
06:27Figure out the links and go wild.
06:29The passive skill tree is still that infamous sprawling web of nodes that looks like a conspiracy theorist's wall,
06:36and optimizing it is half the fun.
06:38Combat feels weightier now, more deliberate, with a dodge roll that actually matters.
06:43Boss fights are legitimately challenging, and require you to learn patterns instead of just face-tanking everything.
06:49The best part? It's free to play without being predatory.
06:53Cosmetics only.
06:55The six-act campaign is dark, grim, and packed with lore for those who want it.
06:59If you bounced off the original for being too complex, honestly, this one might not change your mind.
07:04But if you want an ARPG with near-infinite build variety,
07:07and a community that treats theorycrafting like a competitive sport, welcome home.
07:12Owlcat Games said,
07:13What if we made one of the most ambitious CRPGs ever, and then actually did it?
07:18Wrath of the Righteous puts you at the center of a crusade against demonic forces pouring through a wound in reality.
07:24And the scale here is genuinely epic.
07:27We're talking 200 plus hours of content if you want to see everything.
07:30The mythic path system is the star.
07:32You're not just a hero, you become something more.
07:35Angel, demon, lich, trickster, swarm that walks.
07:38Yes, you can literally become a swarm of locusts wearing human skin.
07:42Each path dramatically changes the story, your abilities, and how NPCs react to you.
07:47Combat uses Pathfinder tabletop rules, which means it's complex but incredibly satisfying once it clicks.
07:53You can pause and play tactically or switch to turn-based mode if real-time feels overwhelming.
07:57The companion roster is fantastic.
08:00Darren's sarcastic hedonism alone carried me through some rough dungeons.
08:03Fair warning though, this game is dense.
08:06The crusade management system can feel clunky and some chapters drag.
08:09But when it hits, when you're making impossible moral choices while commanding armies against demon lords,
08:15nothing else comes close.
08:16The PS5 port runs surprisingly well for something this massive.
08:20Absolutely essential for CRPG fans.
08:24Vanilla Ware finally made a tactics game and it's everything I didn't know I needed.
08:27Unicorn Overlord is gorgeous, like, pause the game just to look at the background's gorgeous.
08:34That signature hand-drawn art style makes every battle feel like a painting come to life.
08:38Your prince Alain, leading a liberation army to reclaim your kingdom from an evil empire.
08:43And yes, it's classic fantasy stuff, but the execution is flawless.
08:47Here's what makes it special.
08:49You're not micromanaging every unit's moves.
08:51Instead, you set up tactics beforehand.
08:55If enemy health is below 50%, use this skill.
08:58If facing cavalry, prioritize this attack, then watch your strategies play out in real time.
09:03It's like programming your army's behavior and then seeing if your theory actually works.
09:07Recruitment is addictive because every character has unique abilities that synergize differently.
09:12Building the perfect 5-unit squad and watching them demolish a supposedly difficult encounter?
09:18Pure serotonin.
09:20The overworld exploration, the town liberation, the relationship building.
09:23It all flows together beautifully.
09:25My only complaint is that it can get a bit easy once you crack the system.
09:28But honestly, sometimes it's nice to feel like a tactical genius.
09:32If you love Fire Emblem but want something fresh, this is your game.
09:37Speaking of tactical RPGs, let's talk about one of the greatest ever made.
09:41Tactics Ogre originally released in 1995
09:43and basically invented half the mechanics modern tactics games still use.
09:48This remaster is definitive.
09:50Reorchestrated soundtrack, fully voiced, rebalanced gameplay, and those beautiful updated sprites.
09:56The story follows denim, caught in a brutal ethnic conflict where there are no clean choices.
10:01Early on, you're faced with a decision so morally devastating that I had to put the controller down and think.
10:07This isn't good versus evil, it's survival versus principle.
10:11And the game makes you live with your choices across multiple branching paths.
10:14Combat is deep and unforgiving.
10:17Elevation matters.
10:19Facing matters.
10:20Element affinities matter.
10:21The class system lets you mold units however you want.
10:24But specialization is rewarded.
10:26What really elevates this is the world tarot system.
10:29You can rewind time to any previous battle and make different choices.
10:33Exploring alternate timelines without starting over.
10:35It respects your time while encouraging experimentation.
10:40Yes, it's older design.
10:42Yes, random battles can feel grindy.
10:44But the writing, the political intrigue, the weight of every decision.
10:48Tactics Ogre earned its legendary status.
10:51Play it.
10:52Post-apocalyptic Colorado has never been this darkly hilarious.
10:56Wasteland 3 drops you into a frozen hellscape as a desert ranger trying to save Arizona
11:01by helping a dictator called the Patriarch control his murderous children.
11:05The tone whiplashes between genuinely horrifying and absurdly funny.
11:09Sometimes in the same conversation.
11:11And somehow it works perfectly.
11:12Combat is XCOM-style tactical goodness with a wasteland twist.
11:17Cover matters, positioning matters, and your squad builds determine everything.
11:21Want a team of snipers who never miss?
11:23A melee berserker backed by a flamethrower maniac?
11:25A smooth-talking leader who convinces enemies to surrender?
11:29All viable.
11:30The skill checks and dialogue are constant and meaningful.
11:33High kiss-ass lets you flirt your way out of fights.
11:35High hard-ass intimidates.
11:37And weird science opens bizarre solutions.
11:39Your choices genuinely reshape the world, with factions rising or falling based on your decisions.
11:44The co-op is seamless, too.
11:46A friend can control half your squad while you handle the other, even making separate dialogue choices that affect your shared story.
11:53The humor hits more than it misses.
11:55The soundtrack slaps.
11:57There's a full Reagan cult worshipping at a shrine, and they have their own choir.
12:00Wasteland 3 is proof that CRPGs don't need to be self-serious to be great.
12:04Okay, imagine if Zelda and Dark Souls had a baby, and that baby was raised by an instruction manual from the 80s.
12:11That's tunic.
12:12You're a tiny fox in a green tunic.
12:15Yes, the reference is intentional.
12:17Waking up on a mysterious beach with zero explanation.
12:20And I mean, zero.
12:21The game doesn't tell you anything.
12:23Instead, you find pages of an in-game manual scattered throughout the world.
12:27Written in a fictional language, you slowly learn to decipher.
12:30It's like being a kid again, sharing secrets on the playground because nobody had internet guides.
12:35Combat is stamina-based and surprisingly punishing.
12:38Bosses will end you repeatedly until you learn their patterns.
12:41But here's where tunic becomes something special.
12:43There are secrets layered on secrets.
12:45Things hiding in plain sight that completely recontextualize everything you thought you knew.
12:49I can't say more without spoiling it, but when the puzzle clicks?
12:53When you realize what the game has actually been teaching you?
12:55It's one of the most incredible eureka moments I've ever experienced in gaming.
13:00The isometric presentation is beautiful.
13:02The soundtrack is hauntingly atmospheric.
13:05And that fox is unreasonably adorable.
13:07Tunic respects your intelligence and rewards curiosity like few games ever have.
13:12Go in blind, trust me.
13:14You're a crow.
13:15You work a desk job.
13:17Your job is literally reaping souls.
13:19Death's Door takes this absurd premise and builds one of the tightest action experiences on PS5.
13:24After your assigned soul gets stolen, you're thrown into a world of forgotten gods, weird NPCs, and some of the most satisfying combat in the indie space.
13:34The controls are razor sharp.
13:35Rolling, slashing, and switching between melee and ranged feels effortless.
13:40Every weapon has distinct timing, and learning when to commit versus when to dodge becomes this beautiful dance.
13:45Bosses are creative and challenging without ever feeling cheap.
13:48The urn witch fight alone is worth the price of admission.
13:52But what surprised me most was the writing.
13:54For a game about death and bureaucracy, it's genuinely heartfelt.
13:57The characters you meet are often tragic, clinging to life in ways that hit harder than expected.
14:01There's a pothead who's literally a pot, with a head.
14:05And somehow his storyline made me emotional?
14:07The world is interconnected in that classic Metroidvania way.
14:11Unlocking shortcuts that loop back, finding secrets you missed about hours ago.
14:15It's not a long game, maybe 8 to 10 hours, but it's dense.
14:18No filler, no padding, just pure, polished excellence.
14:22If you loved Hades but want something a bit more melancholic, Death's Door delivers.
14:27Listen, if you've never played Disgaea before, I need to prepare you.
14:30This series does not believe in reasonable numbers.
14:33We're talking millions of damage.
14:35Billions.
14:36Character levels that go to 9,999, and then you reincarnate and do it again.
14:41Disgaea 7 is tactical RPG XS cranked to maximum, and it's glorious.
14:47Set in a demon netherworld that's basically feudal Japan, you follow Fuji,
14:52a mercenary who claims to hate the Bushido code but keeps accidentally being honorable.
14:57The humor is relentlessly anime.
14:59Fourth wall breaks, over-the-top reactions, ridiculous character archetypes.
15:03And if that's not your thing, fair warning.
15:06But mechanically, this is peak Disgaea.
15:09The new jumbification system lets you turn characters into giant kaiju versions that take up the entire map.
15:15You can throw allies into enemies, stack characters into towers,
15:19enter the item world to level up your gear through randomized dungeons.
15:23The postgame is basically where the real game begins, and completionists will lose hundreds of hours here.
15:28It's not for everyone.
15:29The grind is real, the story is silly, and the systems are overwhelming at first.
15:33But if you want a tactics game where you can break the math so hard the numbers stop making sense,
15:39Disgaea 7 is your beautiful, chaotic playground.
15:42In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
15:46And now, finally, a proper CRPG set in that universe.
15:51Rogue Trader puts you in the captain's chair of a dynasty that has a warrant to trade,
15:55explore, and basically do whatever you want in the fringes of imperial space.
15:59The power fantasy here is incredible.
16:02You're not some random soldier.
16:04You're practically royalty, commanding a void ship, making decisions that affect entire planets.
16:09Owlcat brought their Pathfinder experience, and it shows.
16:12Combat is turn-based tactical goodness with all the 40k flavor you'd want.
16:17Space marines, Eldar, psykers unleashing warp powers that might accidentally summon demons.
16:24Oops.
16:24The companion variety is wild.
16:27You've got a sister of battle, a tech priest who's more machine than human,
16:30a world eater who's trying really hard not to murder everyone.
16:33Party composition matters, and so do your relationships.
16:36The conviction system tracks whether you're dogmatic, iconoclast, or heretical,
16:41and it dramatically shapes your story.
16:43Yes, it's buggy.
16:44Owlcat games always are at launch.
16:46But the patches keep coming.
16:48If you've ever wanted to explore the 40k universe with real narrative depth,
16:52to make choices that matter in a setting usually defined by tabletop battles,
16:56Rogue Trader is essential.
16:58The Emperor protects.
17:00But your decisions determine everything else.
17:03Cyberpunk done right.
17:04The Ascent drops you into a neon-drenched corporate hellscape
17:07where megacorporations own everything, including you.
17:11When the biggest corp suddenly collapses,
17:13the arcology descends into chaos,
17:15and you're caught in the middle trying to survive.
17:16This is a twin-stick shooter RPG, and the gunplay feels incredible.
17:21Weapons have real punch.
17:22Shotguns send enemies rag-dolling.
17:24Energy weapons sizzle through armor.
17:26And the feedback on every shot is satisfying as hell.
17:29The cover system adds tactical depth you don't usually see in this genre.
17:33Crouch behind barriers, blind fire over them,
17:35pop up for precision shots.
17:37It makes firefights feel dynamic rather than just circle strafing.
17:41But honestly, the real star is the world itself.
17:44The Ascent group arcology is one of the most detailed environments I've ever explored.
17:48Density everywhere.
17:50NPCs going about their lives.
17:52Advertisements flickering.
17:53Smoke rising from food stalls.
17:55The lighting is absurd.
17:56Photo mode exists, and you will use it constantly.
17:59Loot and augments let you build different play styles.
18:02And co-op for up to four players makes the chaos even better.
18:05It's not the deepest RPG on this list, but as a visual showcase and pure action experience,
18:11The Ascent is absolutely stunning.
18:13If you want cyberpunk vibes without the bugs that plagued other attempts, start here.
18:17And those are 15 isometric RPGs that honestly deserve way more of your time than is probably healthy.
18:23Look, I know your backlog is already crying.
18:25Mine is too.
18:26But these games are worth it.
18:28Drop a comment and let me know which ones you've played or which one you're adding to the list next.

18:36I'll catch you in the next one.
