00:00We haven't talked a whole lot of Warriors lately.
00:04Sure, LeBron, but Warriors.
00:09And I think it's a fun moment to kind of check in on these NBA finals
00:14and sort of how they're making Warrior fans feel.
00:18I know that after Game 1, Spurs-Oklahoma City, you remember that game.
00:25Epic game, Wemby goes crazy, overtime, all of that stuff.
00:30And a lot of us came in the next day and we're thinking to ourselves,
00:35okay, that's what the Warriors are up against.
00:38And so maybe we extend that conversation,
00:41but this is not the finals that we thought we were going to get.
00:47Wasn't the betting favorite at the start of the NBA playoffs
00:51probably Thunder and Boston?
00:54I suppose.
00:55Wasn't it?
00:56I'd have to look at the exact odds of the East.
00:58It feels to me like it's super split because, you know, Boston,
01:01they did it without some key guys,
01:04and they were a little bit of a paper tiger.
01:05Detroit was the one seed, 60 wins.
01:09Frank Isola came on with Steini and Goo earlier and said
01:11he had the Knicks from the beginning of the year
01:14as the team that would advance.
01:16So I think you're right about the Thunder, clear favorite there,
01:19but the East, I'll have to check.
01:22Randy is saying that, yes, it was the Boston Celtics.
01:25So this is not what we thought that I feel like Obi-Wan Kenobi right now.
01:31These are not the teams you were looking for.
01:33Anyway, this was not the matchup that we thought we were going to get.
01:37So, okay, Warrior fans, kind of how does it make you feel about this offseason,
01:45which is coming up on us pretty quick here.
01:49I think the whole Warrior conversation kind of fell into a little bit of a malaise,
01:54and for good reason, but we're 13 days from the draft,
01:57and then as soon as the draft happens, we're basically a week out from July 4th
02:03and the free agency blitz, so whatever it is these Warriors are going to do,
02:09they're about to do it, whatever the hell it is,
02:12and how aggressive would you like them to get,
02:15and how old versus how young would you like them to get?
02:20Well, you'd like him to get younger, but I don't know how you can go about that
02:24unless you start to deal some of your older guys,
02:28and Jimmy Butler is a contract that you could look to trade.
02:32Draymond Green could be in a sign-and-trade.
02:34I don't think either of those things is going to happen.
02:36So, yeah, Al Horford, you bring him back, you're older.
02:39You don't bring him back, you can get younger.
02:41So there's some moves on the edges, I think, that you can make to get younger.
02:45Isn't that up to him?
02:46To Horford?
02:47Yeah, I think he's got an option.
02:49He's got a player option?
02:50I think so.
02:51Am I right on that, Grandy?
02:52Horford's a player option, right?
02:55Horford can play if he wants to play.
02:57I don't think the Warriors can just knock him off of the books if he wants to play.
03:01Okay, and so...
03:02But anyway, but go ahead.
03:04No, that kind of plays right into my point,
03:06which is I don't even think it's a question of can you get younger
03:09or can you get older, will you stay older?
03:12I think that you're going to be older just based on Steph, Draymond, Jimmy,
03:16and if Al opts in, and he'll be 41, I think, next year or 40,
03:20you're going to be older.
03:21Like, you can draft a young guy, maybe two.
03:24Look, there are more reports that came out today with regard to the Warriors.
03:29Legitimate interest was the phrase that pays today.
03:33That came from Mark Stein and Jake Fisher.
03:36These are very legitimate, topped-in reports.
03:40But what was uncomfortable about it for me, the legitimate interest in LeBron James
03:45was written about clearly from the Warriors, not from LeBron.
03:52And so it's being sort of thrown out there like it's going to be a pitch.
03:57It's going to be a pitch to LeBron,
03:59and they're going to offer that he can still kind of live in L.A. part-time
04:03and commute back and forth and all of these things.
04:07And it was just like, oh, here we go again where it looks like the Warriors
04:11are in sort of the beggar spot in order to bring—
04:15Not the dunker spot.
04:16Not the dunker spot.
04:17This is the beggar spot to bring in a big name.
04:20And so there's a little bit of discomfort there, I would say.
04:24And even that report suggested that the Lakers are still very much the clear favorite
04:29to keep LeBron.
04:30But I think that Cleveland, that idea, at least according to reports,
04:34is starting to fade away.
04:35And the Warriors are quickly becoming the only other option
04:40outside of the Lakers for LeBron's services.
04:45If that's the big offseason move, how are you feeling about it?
04:49Like, I really am personally in that spot where when we watch these finals,
04:55I don't think about the Warriors, actually.
04:58I think about the Warriors because I'm a Warriors fan.
05:00But I don't think about it with regard to the finals.
05:05I've sort of arrived at a spot.
05:07I know a lot of people hate this.
05:08But, for example, when the San Francisco Giants season started,
05:13if we had said, make the playoffs, everyone would have been like,
05:17then that's great, that's a successful season.
05:19Nobody said anything about advancing through the playoffs.
05:23I'm not going to transfer that fully over to the Warriors
05:27because making the playoffs in the NBA is a lot easier
05:30than it is in Major League Baseball.
05:34But the idea of good basketball, a fun season, making the playoffs,
05:42maneuvering through there, giving yourself a chance,
05:45and then arriving at that phrase that Steph has used, meaningful basketball,
05:50that's my barometer now.
05:52That's my barometer for the Golden State Warriors,
05:54which is part of why I've been thumbs up on the idea of not two timelines,
05:59but young and old if needed.
06:01You can be young and old, but most likely your best players will be old.
06:05And, you know, you can throw pods as a younger guy into the mix,
06:08and I don't know if Moody can make it back this year.
06:11But other than that, your young players,
06:13Guy Santos is not one of your five best players.
06:16If you come back with just what you have and Jimmy gets healthy,
06:20Draymond, Steph, and Jimmy are your three best players,
06:22and they're all north of 36.
06:24I believe Jimmy is older than Draymond, and Draymond's at that same age,
06:28and Steph will be 39 in March.
06:30So you can be old and young, but likely your best players will be old.
06:34Then your next group will be young,
06:35and then maybe you'll have another group of, you know,
06:38Will Richard young and up-and-coming and your draft pick
06:41and maybe your other draft pick.
06:42So you can be young and old, but you're still going to be relying on the old.
06:46And so I'm with you as far as, like, changing the thermostat.
06:50You're not going to be able to dial it all the way up to,
06:53yeah, we're going to add this and this and that,
06:54and we're going to be championship.
06:56I don't think that that's how you should look at it.
06:59So if you want to bring in LeBron, you're a better team.
07:03I don't think that you're good enough to make real, real noise,
07:06but that sure would be fun for a year.
07:08It would be fun, and I get it.
07:10You know, this fan base has tasted all of the things that you can taste in life,
07:15so fun.
07:17Like, it's not going to activate everybody.
07:19But here's one question I want, and this is actually another.
07:22This is on my list of reasons why I was in favor of the idea of LeBron to the Warriors
07:28this offseason.
07:29Sell me on an alternative.
07:32I'll wait.
07:33Well, the alternative is not tear it down, but, you know,
07:37you bring back Chris Stapps for less and bring back Melton for less and just try to run it back.
07:42Run it back off a team that went 37 and 45.
07:45Run it back?
07:46Well, your alternative is big swing or moves around the edges or tear it down,
07:52which you're not going to do.
07:54Yeah, like, ooh, I don't like that phrase at all.
07:57What, tear it down?
07:59Run it back?
08:00Well, you're asking what the options are, and I don't think the,
08:04like, you can make a big move for Trey Murphy, right,
08:06and you can give up draft capital.
08:08I don't even know if you can.
08:09I mean, that's not a big move.
08:12That's a medium to large move.
08:14That's a good move.
08:15It's a good move.
08:15Good player.
08:16Like, the big move to me is Kawhi LeBron Giannis.
08:19Those are, like, the big headline, big moves.
08:22Maybe there's other players out there.
08:24Anthony Davis, no thank you.
08:26Or other guys who make a lot and have really popular names.
08:30So, yeah, there's other big moves you could try to make.
08:33All right.
08:34I wonder if we've arrived at this spot yet, because I sure have.
08:38I'd like to actually admit to it right now on the air,
08:41and you can hold me to this all summer.
08:45I am done talking about Giannis.
08:52The Warriors are not in the running for Giannis Attentacompo
08:56in any way, shape, or form, nor should they be.
09:00The Warriors are not getting Giannis.
09:05They don't have the horses to get him.
09:08He doesn't want to come here.
09:10Every report I've seen suggests that he badly wants to stay in the East.
09:16There was a report a few weeks ago that said,
09:18not keen on sort of being second fiddle to Steph.
09:23I don't even know what the hell it is that the Warriors would give up.
09:28I mean, I think we've made it clear, at least my stance,
09:31on giving up four first-rounders when all your good players are over 35.
09:37Giannis' conversation's over.
09:39So just remove that.
09:41I better not.
09:42I mean, until something happens.
09:44It's over.
09:44It's never over.
09:45It's going to happen this month.
09:46Yeah, and when he goes somewhere else, then it'll be over.
09:50In the meantime, I agree with you as far as the likelihood,
09:52but some people would rather do a lot to get Giannis than do a little and get LeBron.
09:58That's for sure.
09:59I'm not even – that's fine.
10:00Some people would rather do that.
10:02Some people vote right wing and some people vote left wing.
10:06It doesn't matter to me what out there some people want.
10:10Like, to me, this is absolute and total reality.
10:13And if you read the tea leaves, you can see it.
10:16The Warriors are not involved in this anymore.
10:19And I'm willing to have a big old fried egg on my forehead if I'm wrong on this,
10:24but I do not see any way, shape, or form that that is possible.
10:29The Kawhi thing, I don't like it.
10:34I don't like it.
10:35They're still trying to figure that contract thing out.
10:38I don't even know how that's going to go.
10:41I don't hear or see any buzz on that either.
10:44Could the Warriors be lying in the weeds on something completely different
10:47that we haven't thought of?
10:49Maybe.
10:49And that sounds potentially interesting to me.
10:53But beyond that, LeBron James, to me, if you're big game hunting –
11:01Right.
11:02That's the biggest game.
11:03That's the goat.
11:04Self-described goat.
11:05I think that's it.
11:07I think that's it.
11:09And for those of you who don't like that idea, boy, I'm all ears.
11:14Because that's the one thing that I would love to see move forward
11:18in the LeBron conversation.
11:21Because a lot of you do sound like – and I know you deal with this all the time –
11:25You sound like the little kid at the dinner table when the dinner is –
11:28I don't like that idea.
11:30I don't yike it.
11:31Then what do you want?
11:34You asked for ravioli.
11:35I gave you ravioli.
11:36Don't tell me you don't yike it.
11:38There you go.
11:38You want a star and you want some sizzle?
11:41I'm giving you a star and some sizzle.
11:43What do you want?
11:44If you don't want LeBron and if you will join planet Earth that Giannis is not happening,
11:54then what's the next move?
11:56Because, boy, I'm just talking for me now.
11:59I hate the phrase run it back right now.
12:04Oh, visceral reaction.
12:06Run it back?
12:07They won't.
12:08Of course they can't.
12:10I mean, they're allowed to.
12:11They're allowed to, yes.
12:12Right now, on Calci, the Warriors have a 2% chance of landing Giannis Antetokounmpo,
12:1810th highest percentage, Miami, 54%.
12:21Yeah, Miami.
12:23Miami, and then a bunch of other teams in the East.
12:25Boston, New York, then Portland.
12:27The 2% bet is a bad one.
12:28It's a bad one.
12:30I, boy.
12:32Oof.
