Yellowcard joins Klein/Ally Show at 'Almost Acoustic Christmas' 2025.
Transcript
00:00We'll be taking to the rotating stage at 625 this evening for those of you that are making your way to the forum.
00:08Lots to talk about with you guys because even though you've been a band for, I don't know, a few decades,
00:13it feels like this has been the biggest year of your band. Does it feel that way for you as well?
00:16You're not wrong. Say it again.
00:19It is the biggest year in the history of Yellow Card.
00:21How? How is that? We don't really know.
00:24Did you do it?
00:25Yes, we did.
00:25You helped. You certainly helped.
00:27We did play a lot of the songs.
00:28Yes, we are very much in the midst of the biggest and best moment of our career, for sure.
00:36We're playing the biggest shows we've ever played.
00:39Made a record with Travis Barker.
00:41I know him.
00:43Got our first number one single of our whole career.
00:46We just don't even know.
00:47He's showing off.
00:47Don't even know. Thank you.
00:49What a year in review.
00:50Is this a time where you kind of huddle up and say,
00:54hey, let's take stock of what happened in 2025 and then make some resolutions for 2026.
01:00Do you do resolutions as a band?
01:02We didn't really do that for Yellow Card.
01:04We were already booked for 26.
01:05We're ready to go.
01:06I know.
01:06You announced a new tour.
01:07New tour.
01:09We had two new tours.
01:10To not get too heady on the rock and roll radio station,
01:13but I think in the past we would let ourselves get a little ahead of ourselves.
01:18And one of the things we're trying to stay conscious of now is just being present, you know,
01:23and being here and now and really not taking anything for granted
01:27and appreciating kind of each thing that's happening as it happens.
01:31And in that way, there's just more amazing things keep happening and keep coming, you know.
01:35So we have a huge 26 planned with New Found Glory at Plain White Tees.
01:40We just announced our tour with them.
01:41Great tour.
01:42We're also going to Australia.
01:45We're going to Australia with Good Charlotte.
01:46Yes.
01:47Which we're very excited about.
01:48What's so crazy is that as watching your band from the outside,
01:52a fan from the Ocean Avenue days to the present,
01:54you guys actually went through a time where you legitimately broke up as a band,
01:57not in some sort of a PR way where you go, like, let's say we're breaking up
02:00and then we'll get back together and sell a bunch of merch at a reunion.
02:03But you actually called it quits and you thought there would never be another
02:05Yellow Card show album ever again.
02:08And then because you made it somehow work, look at what has happened.
02:11And I think all of us can apply that to our lives, right?
02:14Yes.
02:15Makes me emotional.
02:16Yeah.
02:17To your point of it not kind of being a PR stunt when people ask about it,
02:22we dissolved the company from a legal standpoint.
02:26That's just so much paperwork.
02:27It was over.
02:28We donated all the gear out of our storage unit to music schools.
02:31You know, we were done.
02:33And it was one show in Chicago at Riot Fest in 22 brought us back together to kind of test the waters.
02:41And it was one of the most incredible nights of our career.
02:44And just we knew we had to figure out a way to heal and keep going.
02:49And for everyone out here, that's why.
02:52And we appreciate it.
02:54It's not about us.
02:55Well, Ryan, I know you said, though, that from when Ocean Avenue first came out,
02:58you felt instant pressure.
03:00And mental health, that must have taken just a toll on just the amount of,
03:03it felt like every direction was hitting you guys going,
03:05we need more, we need better, we need bigger.
03:07Yep.
03:07And now, in 2025, I guess it all happened.
03:11Well, you get better results when you know what mental health is.
03:16You know, that helps to understand what it is.
03:18And when we were 23, 24, we didn't know what any of that was
03:22or why we were under the stress and anxiety we were, you know.
03:26So I think we're just in a better place mentally, collectively.
03:30I think, you know, we have a very common goal and focus to be here for each other
03:35and our families and make the best music we can make for our fans.
03:40And it's not about us now.
03:42It's about us all together, you know, you guys and us.
03:46And it's just a special time to be in this band.
03:49How has performing changed over the years?
03:51Because I feel like now you can perform for a group and you look out
03:54and you see baggy jeans and crop tops and chunky sneakers
03:57and you're like, wow, nothing is different from 20 years ago.
04:00Everything's back.
04:01I am wearing baggy jeans right now.
04:03The same pair from 20 years ago.
04:05Is there anyone that you're excited to see either backstage or onstage tonight?
04:09Some people, some bands that you haven't seen in a while
04:11and be like, oh, man, Rise again.
04:13It's haven't seen you since Warm Tour.
04:14Yes, definitely, definitely Rise.
04:16We also, we played in Chicago a couple nights ago with Third Eye Blind.
04:19And last summer, last summer, we had the opportunity to tour the U.S.
04:26direct support for Third Eye Blind.
04:28And that band, you know, the self-titled Third Eye Blind record came out when we were 17 years old.
04:34I mean, what a life-changing, earth-shattering pop rock album to have as a teenager in your life.
04:42And so huge influence on our band.
04:44While, you know, we don't share genres per se,
04:48but just their sense of melody and songwriting was a huge influence on all of us.
04:53And so what an honor to get to play with them.
04:56And here we are playing with them, you know, two nights, two shows in a row here this week.
05:00So very excited to see Third Eye Blind in the forum in L.A.
05:04I mean, what a show.
05:05What a night.
05:06We're going to get Better Days, which is your first number one hit ever.
05:10We'll get that on K-Rock in just a moment.
05:12But before we do that, what is one strange thing we would find in your dressing room here at the forum today?
05:18There's an eyeliner hidden under the sink that his wife brought.
05:21All right.
05:22It's not mine.
05:23It's not mine.
05:24Yes.
05:24It's his wife's.
05:25That's what they all say.
05:25That's what they say.
05:27Better Days is more than just the number one song.
05:29It's symbolic of all of the things that have happened.
05:30What do you want to tell us about this specific song before we put it on K-Rock?
05:33I mean, it's just, it's about a lot of what we've been talking about here.
05:36You know, it's, it's about forgiveness and kindness and, and staying positive and looking, you know, looking forward without expectations.
05:46Just kind of being grateful for what you have and hope, you know, believing that that's going to, that's going to give you positive results in your life.
05:54And, I mean, look at it.
05:55Look at what's happening for us.
05:56It's proof.
05:57It's proof that it works.
05:59You know that.
05:59Yellow card will be taken to the stage at 625 tonight.
06:03I'm sure they will all be out there.
06:04We cannot thank you enough for the relationship.
06:06Please get Better Days on K-Rock right now.
06:08And, yellow card, thanks for stopping by the live broadcast.
06:11Thank you, guys.
06:12We love you.
