00:00It is 106.7 KROQ, KROQ, American Holiday.
00:07I'm here with Stephen Jenkins for Third Eye Blind.
00:09Hello, my friend.
00:11It's so nice to be back with you.
00:11We were already talking about your outfit.
00:12Has everybody already talked to the whole thing?
00:14They don't know.
00:14The people listening don't know about it.
00:16It's Hugh Hefner Christmas.
00:17Yes, indeed.
00:18It's really a vibe.
00:19I approve.
00:20Thank you very much.
00:21You were telling me about I did a liner for you about driving through the night.
00:26Yes, you did.
00:27Megan Holiday is still driving through the night.
00:29The drive goes on.
00:30The drive goes on forever.
00:32Megan Holiday in the Endless Night.
00:34There it is.
00:35There's your new one.
00:36Just put them next to each other.
00:37And my best friend is right there, and we were listening to it on the way over,
00:40and we are obsessed with it.
00:42Hello, best friend.
00:43So I can't wait to pull that clip and keep it forever.
00:45Speaking of pulling, I'm glad that I pulled you for an interview.
00:48I'm glad this worked out.
00:49You never know how it's going to go.
00:50I feel like you're in charge of the interview here.
00:53I yield.
00:54But here's the thing is you've played a lot of our Acoustic Christmases in years past.
01:00We love you.
01:01I've played more than a few.
01:02Yes, you have.
01:03And I was wondering, because you brought up a great memory before we went live,
01:08and I would love for you to share that.
01:09I was telling you about the very first Acoustic Christmas I played.
01:13I was walking out on stage, and this girl was wearing this big, black, fake fur coat.
01:18And I go, give us your coat, in some fake British accent.
01:23And she loans me her coat.
01:24And I go walking out on stage on it, and I start strutting around.
01:28And I look over to my right, and David Bowie is standing there with this sort of bemused look on his face.
01:33And it's the thin white dude.
01:35And so all of this swagger that I had just melted right on the floor.
01:38And I'm like, oh, okay, I mean, I'm here as long as it's okay with you.
01:43Oh, my God.
01:44No one can out-swag David Bowie ever.
01:46I was completely, completely lost.
01:48Did you talk to him?
01:49It was a great feeling.
01:49It's something, like, I carry with me from, did I talk to him?
01:53Yeah.
01:53Oh, no, I didn't talk to him.
01:55Yeah, I know.
01:55It's too scary.
01:55I couldn't do it.
01:56Yeah.
01:57But still, it was quite a moment.
01:59I don't even know what I would do if I had ever gotten to see David Bowie in real life.
02:02It's one of those moments where you just go, is this really happening right now?
02:05Yeah, I turned into a puddle right there on stage.
02:06Yeah, I love it.
02:07And then, yeah, I got it back together eventually.
02:11But that's, yeah, that's my very first memory of K-Rock Acoustic Christmas.
02:17And there have been, you just keep asking us back and you keep playing our band.
02:22I know.
02:22Since then, we've never been out of rotation.
02:25Third Eye Blind has been on rotation ever since.
02:27So when you ask us to come play with it, we're down to come play with it.
02:31And I think, I think we're the only band out here tonight who does not have a current, like, new album that we're...
02:42Yes, this is true, which is, I wanted to ask you, are you working on this stuff?
02:46Yes, I am.
02:47I'm trying to finish the lyrics, but Third Eye Blind lyrics, there's too many of them.
02:50I wish I could write less.
02:52But I have to write too many lyrics and I'm in the process of writing too many lyrics.
02:56As soon as I do, then we'll have a new Third Eye Blind record.
03:00Oh my God.
03:01Obviously, we'd love to come back.
03:03I'm so excited.
03:04I've been such a fan for a long time.
03:06In my opinion, your self-titled album is one of my all-time favorite albums.
03:11It is perfect in its entirety.
03:13I'm very excited to hear the new stuff that you've got going on.
03:16And I want to ask you, because, you know, mental health is such an important thing in this day and age, right?
03:21So what do you do to just take care of the space in between your ears?
03:25Oh, I was thinking about that.
03:26A lot of people who I really admire kind of have something bordering on nervous breakdowns.
03:39And how do you take care of it?
03:45I think we just got to hold on to each other and buck up because we're in the middle of a really rough ride right now
03:51and just kind of acknowledge it and just try to find a couple people you can actually physically hug and hold on to.
03:57Yes.
03:57That's the best advice I have.
03:59And stay hydrated.
04:00Yes.
04:01Yeah.
04:01Live your life in alignment with, you know, being ready for a struggle.
04:05For a long road and a long night drive.
04:08Electrolytes, baby.
04:09Yeah.
04:09Megan Holiday.
04:10I just love saying that.
04:11You tell that story.
04:13You tell the story.
04:13People don't even know what I'm talking about.
04:15Really quickly, we were at the hotel.
04:18This was, I don't know, 2018 or something.
04:20We met you backstage in the Pumpkins dressing room and then we all went over to the hotel.
04:25We're hanging out.
04:26And then I grabbed you and you go, hey, will you make me a drop for the radio so that I could play it?
04:31And then you took my phone and that's when you talked about how you're like, you're listening to Megan Holiday.
04:35You're driving through the night.
04:37Don't turn this show off.
04:38You were just saying all this stuff and it was so hilarious and amazing.
04:41Why am I always in the Smashing Pumpkins dressing room?
04:44That is a great question, Stephen.
04:46They're vegans.
04:47That is a great, yeah, he was eating like a quinoa bowl.
04:49And she's eating like a bowl of kale.
04:51And kale.
04:51Of kale.
04:52And quinoa, yeah.
04:53I know, and makeup, full makeup.
04:55Full makeup.
04:55Mm-hmm.
04:56Billy just eats Christmas kale.
04:58Yeah.
04:58No dressing.
04:59Just chomps it down.
05:00Just raw, yeah.
05:01Picture of health.
05:02Raw dogging, you know.
05:03Well, okay, Stephen Jenkins, thank you so much for coming by.
05:06Hey, have you seen The Paradox?
05:07Because I have to go.
05:08Oh, yeah.
05:08I want to go see them play right now.
05:09Go and see them right now.
05:10They're going to play right now.
05:11Yes.
05:12All of you, what?
05:14Oh, okay.
05:15They're just about to start.
05:16Okay, well, maybe.
05:17I'm hearing you saying they're just about to start and I didn't just miss them.
05:20All right.
05:21Stephen Jenkins.
