00:00Let's just jump right into probably the biggest storyline, at least this week.
00:05That would be with the Indianapolis Colts and Phil Rivers at 44 years old being signed at a Tyrant Pro Football Hall of Fame.
00:13That can wait, but the Colts needing to push towards the playoffs.
00:18What are your expectations for him this week?
00:20Yeah, you got to wait five years.
00:22That's right.
00:23Yeah.
00:23So, all right, let's explain kind of where the Colts were at.
00:26So, they were left no choice.
00:28I mean, they called – it wasn't just Rivers, as I understand.
00:31They called some guys who had retired recently.
00:33But Rivers said, yes, he's been staying in shape coaching high school football.
00:38Yes, he just turned 44 earlier this week.
00:40But my understanding is he looked really good in practice.
00:43It was obvious he's ready to go.
00:44They had to see it first on the practice squad.
00:46And he took the majority of the first team reps as the week went along.
00:50So, the approach will always be, no matter who the quarterback is,
00:53it starts with the run game with Jonathan Taylor.
00:55Whereas, Tom, in years past, Taylor was not as effective, had injury.
01:00So, they couldn't do what they really want to do.
01:02But it really – with Shane Steichen, is now starting with a run game
01:05because it does help out, in this case, Phillip Rivers.
01:08Without Braden Smith, the right tackle, that's a concern.
01:11Now, here's going to be the approach, though, for Seattle and Mike McDonald,
01:15the head coach who also calls the plays.
01:18They're going to look early on and see if they get home with the regular pressure.
01:22If not, they're going to come after Phillip Rivers.
01:24Why? Lack of mobility.
01:2644 years old.
01:28Last time he played in a game in the National Football League was,
01:31I believe, January 5th, 2021, where they were in the playoffs.
01:36So, they're going to get after him.
01:38And they're going to make it crazy.
01:39I mean, they're going to want to make Rivers move because he can't move, Tom.
01:43That's the thing with Phillip Rivers.
01:45It was never about his arm strength.
01:46It's about his mobility.
01:48And they're going to test it.
01:49So, I get why the line is what it is.
01:51We haven't seen this guy play in nearly five years.
01:54And it just makes sense.
01:56It would be hard for me to take the Colts here and the big number, but understand something.
02:04Phillip Rivers knows how to play this game.
02:06He'll manage it as well as he can.
02:08And they were not going to go to Riley Leonard.
02:11The simple fact is he's a third-string quarterback for a reason.
02:14They're just going to take their chances.
02:15In a game, Tom, they desperately need to win.
02:18Cap, I do want to just talk quickly.
02:22Did they call up anybody?
02:25I know you said they made calls.
02:27But we've seen, like, Cam Newton come out and say that it was a slap in his face that they didn't ask him.
02:32I mean, you would think they would opt for more of a mobile type of quarterback, especially knowing how prototypical and just, you know, immobile Phillip Rivers is.
02:42Yeah, oh, no.
02:44They looked at – it's not the first time that Chris Ballard has done this, if you remember.
02:50When Andrew Luck suddenly retired and they made the trade for Jacoby Brissett, who's still playing now.
02:55He's starting for the Cardinals.
02:56They looked at a number of quarterbacks and, you know, what direction they went that time with Brissett.
03:04And then, you know, what Phillip Rivers did in 2020.
03:06Oh, by the way, Rivers does have experience with Michael Pittman in 2020.
03:10So, that does matter.
03:12If you're looking at props, if you're looking at receiving props, they did have some chemistry.
03:20So, that's one thing.
03:20He does have experience.
03:21I know it's been five years, but they do have some experience.
