00:00Uncle Luke, I'm going to ask you about government involvement.
00:03In your opinion, do you think government needs to be involved in college sports?
00:10Right now, because of the landscape of it, you've got to create some legislation.
00:18But at the same time, it has to be done with both sides being represented.
00:25Right now, the players are not represented because they don't have a union.
00:29You know, only people being represented is the schools.
00:33I mean, when you see Nick Saban go to Capitol Hill, when you see the conference commissioners go to Capitol
00:40Hill,
00:41the NCAA go to Capitol Hill, you don't see anybody representing the players.
00:45And so that is one of the reasons why I know it's so very important to get me into Congress
00:52is because I know as a high school coach, you know, and as a person who has been a part
01:00of NIL
01:01when it first started up, I understand the good and the bad and the things that, you know,
01:08people need to implement when it comes to if there's going to be some laws that are going to be
01:13created.
01:13And so I know I would be there representing the players, but at the same time represents stability for everybody.
01:21Do you think NIL has been good for college sports, Uncle Luke?
01:27I think it's been great for college sports.
01:30I think it's, I mean, hey, look, when you played and when Jerome Brown played and everybody is making money.
01:36At the end of the day, when you look at it, you know, some people think that it's a bad
01:40thing.
01:40But when you look at it, you go into the stadium, there's millions and millions of dollars being made.
01:46TV contracts, money at the box office, the parking, everything, the tailgating and all that.
01:53And the jerseys being sold and for a player not to be able to reap the benefits of that, that
02:00is asinine.
02:02And so that's how, you know, we're here right now.
02:05You know, players need to be compensated because everybody else is being compensated.
02:10You got these video games that are making billions of dollars, you know, off of players,
02:15and they've never been able to get compensated.
02:17So I'm happy that it's happening.
02:19But then there needs to be some structure to it to also, you know, with no structure, then it's a
02:25wild, wild west.
02:26But this whole thing of them running to Capitol Hill is really about Miami.
02:32At the end of the day, Dan, it's about Miami.
02:35They never expected Miami, a team out of the ACC, to be able to play ball the way we're playing
02:42ball,
02:43to be able to have the money, the resources, and this beautiful South Florida weather and this backdrop.
02:48That's our facilities.
02:50They never thought for one minute that we would have enough resources, money, to compete with the Big Ten and
02:57the SEC.
02:59That's what this comes down to because the long ball, these guys were going to get ready to have a
03:05two-conference situation.
03:06If you were not in the conference, they were going to leave us over here in the Ivy League, ACC.
03:11But we came to compete with money and we came to compete with players.
03:17And players want to be here in Miami at the end of the day.
03:20And so they can't take that.
03:22So now they've got to pivot and they don't know where they're going.
03:26Luthor, do you think Miami's back?
03:28And before you answer that, every time somebody asks me that question, I always say this.
03:33When you stop asking me that question, then I'll know we're back.
03:36But do you think we're heading in the right direction, the University of Miami with Mario Cristobal?
03:43Oh, we're definitely heading in the right direction.
03:45I mean, he said six years.
03:46He said, give me six years.
03:48I'll bring this program back to, you know, to the national spotlight.
03:54We're in the national spotlight.
03:56We're not back until we win a national championship, in my opinion.
04:00He's doing an excellent job.
04:02And, you know, I was calling for him to give a pay raise, you know, before when he went to
04:06the playoffs.
04:07Because I just know he's doing the right thing and he's doing a great job.
04:11And he's going to continue doing a good job.

04:25And right now, there are only seven African-American head football coaches at those power programs.
04:31And if you look at it, there's not one African-American coach in the Southeastern Conference.
04:37How can we change this?
04:40I mean, it's sad because, you know, at the end of the day, let's face it, you know, majority is

04:51I mean, let's face it.
04:53Jimmy Sexton represents all the top coaches.
04:58Jimmy Sexton can be a person that will go and he can be a person that can go and push
05:05coaches.
05:07I mean, it's a person that can go and orient itpower.
05:08Not even though why it is going to hurt your coach as a partner.
