00:00One year after police officers of the Special Investigations Unit seized 65 kilograms of cocaine at the Piaquay International Airport cargo area on December 8, 2024, with an estimated street value of $91 million, police have detained two men in relation to that bust.
00:18Investigators say that two men suspected of being connected to the drug find at the Piaquay International Airport were detained by officers in the Western Division following a covert operation.
00:28At the location where the men were held, police also seized 7,005 British pounds, 150 euros and $69,820, with investigations continuing on the Proceeds of Crime Act through the Financial Investigation Bureau.
00:45The two men were charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking connected to that bust when they appeared before Port of Spain High Court North on December 4, 2025, where the charges were laid indictably and both were denied bail.
00:59And in other crime-related news, three men, two of them pensioners, were held up and robbed inside the St. Joseph Public Cemetery on December 2.
01:07Investigators said the victims, ages 70, 65 and 55, were at the cemetery around 11.30 a.m. when three masked men confronted them.
01:16The bandits escaped with more than $1,000 along with cell phones, bags, identification cards and other documents.
01:24The assailants then ran off.
01:27Police have not released any information about why the three men were at the cemetery at the time of the attack.
01:32In another robbery, this one in South Trinidad, police are investigating a home invasion targeting a doubles vendor in Tableland early Thursday morning.
01:39Reports say two vendors and two workers were preparing food at a private residence around 1.30 a.m. when three armed masked men burst in.
01:48The victims were robbed of over $17,000 in jewelry, $500 in cash, cell phones, IDs and bank cards.
01:56The victims were tied up as the men ransacked the house before escaping.
