Authorities in Maharashtra’s Beed district have intensified patrols and launched targeted operations after a surge in robberies and bag-snatching incidents along the Solapur–Dhule highway, especially between Pachod and Yedshi.
According to officials, groups of robbers have been stopping passenger vehicles, threatening commuters, and stealing luggage, prompting police to issue safety advisories to travellers.
A video of one such highway robbery has gone viral on social media, with users claiming it was recorded last month on National Highway 52 near Beed. The footage, reportedly captured from a bus-mounted camera, shows five to six bike-borne men trailing the vehicle. One of them climbs onto another’s shoulder and manages to board the rear of the moving bus. He is seen opening the luggage compartment, pulling out bags, and throwing them onto the road. He later jumps off when the driver slows down after sensing something suspicious.
Police stated that similar crimes have been reported recently in Beed and neighbouring areas, leading to increased night patrols and trap deployments. Alerts have also been circulated via local WhatsApp groups to warn the public and coordinate with police units across the region.
Hotel and lodge owners along the highway have been instructed to ensure functional CCTV systems and share relevant footage promptly. Food vendors and accommodation providers have been asked to cooperate with the investigation. Contact details of key police personnel have been distributed to establishments for quicker communication.
Authorities have also launched awareness campaigns, putting up posters and issuing guidelines urging travellers to avoid halting on the highway at night. Police say heightened surveillance and community participation are helping in efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits while maintaining strict vigilance along the route.
