00:00these are the kinds of circumstances that sort of, you know,
00:05they paint the road that all of these teams are on,
00:08no different than all of our lives.
00:09Like, there are circumstances that are involved.
00:11So this schedule, I'm just fascinated by it, the 49er schedule,
00:17and whether or not it was actually as easy as we all crack it up to be.
00:22I would say no, but it's still also, like, we could look at the teams they did play,
00:27and we're like, oh, there's some nice teams on there that we didn't think were going to be all that nice.
00:31They also, though, the schedule outside of their division mates,
00:36which is a big deal, not to be understated, but outside of that,
00:40they avoid all of those other big dogs.
00:44So that's the best part of the schedule.
00:45There's no trips to Green Bay, no trips to Detroit, no trips to Philly.
00:50Nobody's got to go to Denver.
00:51Nobody's got to go to Buffalo.
00:53Nobody's got to go to New England.
00:55There's none of that.
00:55There's none of that on the schedule.
00:57It turns out going to Houston was a hell of a lot harder than we realized.
01:00If you remember that game, the Niners looked like it, and we ripped them for it.
01:04And now we're like, oh, everybody looks like that against the Texans defense.
01:08I didn't realize that Mahomes and Josh Allen were both going to look like absolute crap against that team also,
01:15because they both have, just in the last three weeks.
01:18I mean, Mahomes had, what, three picks?
01:21Yeah.
01:21And Josh Allen was sacked, what, nine times?
01:25And neither one of them got to 20 points?
01:27Do I have that right?
01:28That's right.
01:29And they've given up the fewest points in all of the NFL.
01:32So you go there and you struggle.
01:34Okay.
01:35I get that.
01:36But you also went to Cleveland, and I thought it was a scheduled loss, and it was week 13 without a buy,
01:41and you went against another very good defense, but you got the job done.
01:45And some of the schedule stuff is when you play these various teams.
01:49And, you know, you played Cleveland when they were going to Shadour.
01:53It was kind of early Shadour, and I thought that he looked better this past week.
01:57He looked better the week after that.
01:59And he's starting to slowly look better and better.
02:01But, yeah, you went up against Cleveland without much of an offensive attack.
02:07And so, yeah, you benefited by that.
02:10And, you know, you went to Tampa, and you faced a Tampa team that was mostly healthy.
02:15You faced New Orleans back when they had pre-Shuck, when they had Rattler.
02:20And New Orleans is terrible anyway.
02:22But I do think that all of these things, schedule-wise, spot-wise, they do matter.
02:27But the Niners' schedules turned out to be tougher than what we thought going into the year.
02:32Yeah, for sure.
02:32No doubt about it.
02:33I want to answer this one, too, because, again, as we sort of talk about what are your playoff expectations for the 49ers now?
02:41And, yes, they still need to make the playoffs.
02:43But what I'm kind of like, man, what I'm drunk on right now is how sort of realistic the division and the one seed feel like.
02:55I didn't think I would feel that way at any point.
02:58And I still find it to be unlikely.
03:00I think winning four more in a row, you've already won three in a row, like, I don't know, man.
03:04It feels like there's going to be a dead duck in there somewhere.
03:07I don't know if it's the Bears, Seattle, whatever.
03:10But with Tennessee coming next and Indy losing their quarterback, it's certainly realistic to think that the Niners at least might be 11-4 a couple of weeks from now.
03:21And someone texted in Boxer and Gerson, work injury attorney's text line, and said,
03:25I think the Rams' loss would have to be to Seattle for the Niners to beat them in a tiebreaker.
03:30Well, I got good news for you.
03:32No, that is not true.
03:33If the Rams lose one more game and the Niners were to win out in their schedule, the San Francisco 49ers will be NFC West champions by virtue of the fact that they would have the same record and the same division record.
03:50They would both be 5-1, even if the Rams beat Seattle but lose to Detroit.
03:55But then we go to conference record where the Rams have three losses and the Niners only have two.
04:00It's already a done deal, and you can thank the Philadelphia Eagles for that because that was, and the Carolina Panthers, because those were the other two conference losses.
04:12The 49ers' only other conference loss was to Tampa, and therefore the Niners, yes, one more Rams loss, and the Niners control the West with their own play.
04:24It's a huge ask, but I don't think it sounds as crazy today as it did a few weeks ago.
04:31No, even like two days ago or even yesterday because of what, I mean, Philadelphia loses again, and so that kind of takes them down a peg.
04:39And now they have five losses, so they're not going to be even in that four-loss mix if the Niners do run the table.
04:45The only other one for the 1-C would be Green Bay, Green Bay 9-3-1, but they go to Denver, they go to Chicago, they've got Baltimore, and then at Minnesota.
04:56They've got three road games of the last four.
04:58And those are all games, too, even Minnesota and Baltimore.
05:00Minnesota, I mean.
05:01No, but those are games.
05:02That's a division road game.
05:03Divisional, for sure.
05:04That's a game.
05:05Rivalry, I get that.
05:06But, you know, for me, it's more about the next two weeks where the Rams have Detroit at home and at Seattle.
05:12And I would bet that they lose one of those two, even if they don't, okay, then you've got at Atlanta and then Arizona at home.
05:20So if you want to still think about winning the division, you need the Rams to lose one of these next two.
05:26The San Francisco 49ers are tiebreaker juggernauts.
05:30Absolute tiebreaker juggernauts because they're 9-4, but two of their losses came to the AFC South.
05:35Yep.
05:36So they are absolute tiebreaker juggernauts.
05:39A 4-1 division record, an 8-2 conference record.
05:43Bottom line, if they win these next four games, that is all it takes.
05:49One Rams loss.
05:52And the Niners will either be the one or the two seed.
05:55Right.
05:55Right.
05:56And I say that as if it's like, oh, the next four games, yeah, you just win them.
06:00Just win the table.
06:00That's going to be super hard.
06:02Super hard.
06:03But, again, those first two games look super winnable, and then you're at home, primetime action, Chicago Bears, and then, man, if that Seahawks game, if that ends up what we think it might, like that game, could, I would imagine, be, because isn't Chicago Sunday night football?
06:23Aren't the Bears and Niners, isn't that a Sunday nighter?
06:25And that last week, they leave the schedule totally open.
06:29Right.
06:30For flexes.
06:31They haven't scheduled a Sunday nighter yet.
06:33Yes, it is Sunday night.
06:34Niners Bears.
06:35And the Niners-Seahawks absolutely could be Sunday night two weeks in a row.
06:39It absolutely could be.
06:41So, woo.
06:43Yeah.
06:44Those two games are going to be a hot ticket, man, if the Niners can just navigate Tennessee and Indy.
06:49I mean, navigate Tennessee.
06:51You'll navigate Tennessee.
06:52If you can't beat Tennessee and you're favored by 12-and-a-half, then all of this, like, air we've been putting out there on the air is just worthless.
07:00If you can't beat Tennessee at home, off a bye, favored by 12-and-a-hook, like, forget the spread.
07:07And the pick, by the way, is not in.
07:09Your boy's on the ropes.
07:11Yeah, you took another one.
07:13But I went with you last night, sorry.
07:15I make fun of you less because I went with you.
07:19Right, but.
07:19Then I was thrilled to be wrong.
07:21Fade, fade, fade.
07:22Yeah, baby.
07:23It might actually be a fade season.
07:26I don't want to ride him.
07:27Fade, fade, fade.
07:28Yeah, that's Lucas from yesterday.
07:30But, yeah.
07:31The holiday season.
07:32It's the fade, the dimmer season.
07:35Fade, the dimmer.
07:36Fade, the dimmer.
07:38So, yeah.
07:38And you get to that spot.
07:40If you can't beat Tennessee, forget the 12-and-a-half, but if you can't win this game, well, then what are we even talking about?
07:46No, that's totally fair.
07:47That's totally fair.
07:47No, this is.
07:48Just fire everyone.
07:49Yeah, I don't want to be one of these, you know, don't accuse me of being a jinx or whatever.
07:55The Niners are not losing on Sunday.
07:57What are we talking about?
07:58What are we doing?
08:00They're not losing that football game.
08:02So, there's that.
08:03The Indy one, I still like, I don't know, quizzical look because they're still, it's a road game.
08:10Monday night football, they're going to be a home dog on Monday night.
08:13I don't know who's quarterback in that game.
08:17Phillip Rivers just got signed to the team.
08:19Crazy.
08:2044-year-old grandpa.
08:24He's a grandpa.
08:25He's a grandpa.
08:26It's official.
08:26It's grandpa, daddy.
08:27He's 44, and he's a Colt.
08:29And I'm looking at the line, the future line is Niners minus six.
08:33I mean, that's a big, I mean, that's a big home dog.
08:36Yeah, it's a big number.
08:38So, all right, 888-957-957.
08:41I want to throw this at you, too, since you did it to me all NBA season.
08:45Okay.
08:45I'm going to do it to you right back.
08:48If I set the over-under on Niners playoff wins this year at a half, you're going over-under.
08:58I'm going over.
08:59Really?
09:00I'm going over.
09:01You're going over.
09:02I'm going over, and it, yeah, cuckoo-sh.
09:04Oh, that's unfortunate.
09:05Fade, fade, fade.
09:06Exactly.
09:07It's because of the reality of where they are.
09:11So, even if they don't win the division, and let's just assume they don't, because the Rams
09:15have a game lead on them, and the Rams can go 3-1, and the Niners can go 3-1, and then
09:22the Niners would be, you know, 12-5, and the Rams would be 13-4.
09:27They would be the five seed.
09:28Okay.
09:28I don't think that the Niners will be any worse than the five seed based on who they
09:32play.
09:32So, you're the five, and now you have to go out and you have to play the four.
09:36And the four, right now, is either Tampa or Carolina.
09:40It could possibly be Philadelphia if they slide all the way, I mean, further back.
09:46And so, if it's Philly, I'm more worried, but if it's at Tampa or at Carolina in the
09:52first round, I think the Niners might be favored on the road.
09:56So, I'm going to take the Niners over a half a playoff win.
09:59Cuckoo-sh.
10:00I am going to, I don't know, maybe surprise you here.
10:04Oh, boy.
10:05No, I'm going to take the under.
10:06And that's just so like you to be negative.
10:10Well, I don't really like the teams around here.
10:13Mark, you out here sound like a hater, my brother.
10:15Do you have to be such a homer?
10:17I'm going to take the under for multiple reasons.
10:19Number one, it's just a person talking, and therefore, I'm allowed to change my mind.
10:23I'm allowed to change my mind.
10:25Wow.
10:26But think of this now.
10:28I still think that there's a lot to prove.
10:31There's a lot to prove.
10:33Don't, like, I'm excited in this moment.
10:37These things that we're talking about are on the table for them.
10:41But let's pull apart this three-game win streak that they're on with Brock Purdy back.
10:47Like a good cinnamon roll.
10:49You defeated the Cardinals, the Panthers, and the Browns.
10:52I know that somehow the standings tell me that Carolina's at least an okay team.
10:58They beat the Rams.
10:59I do not think they're good.
11:00Yes, they beat the Rams at home.
11:02I do not think they're good.
11:04And in that game, Brock Purdy threw three interceptions, and the defense was next level,
11:10and Jair Brown saved his bacon.
11:12So there was that.
11:14The Arizona game was a weird one.
11:16You came out.
11:17You scored a bunch of points.
11:19But Jacoby Brissett completed, like, 413 passes, and he kind of came out of there feeling weird.
11:26This is a weird football game.
11:28Cardinals made some mistakes.
11:29And then the other one is Cleveland, which I'm impressed through defense and weather with the way the 49ers performed.
11:35But you're still playing a bad team with a quarterback making his second career start.
11:41So let's not get overly drunk.
11:45This is two or three drinks.
11:47Not eight.
11:48Like, let's not get too drunk on what the 49ers are doing right now.
11:54So for me to believe that they are either going to, A, go capture the division,
12:00or, B, upset a really good team on the road in the playoffs, I'm not there yet.
12:08It's still a young defense that still needs to show that they can stop a good quarterback.
12:16A good quarterback.
12:18It's Shadur Sanders and Bryce Young, that's nice.
12:21But do it to Sam Darnold and Caleb Williams, and then I'll change my tune.
12:27I just think that when you look at, it might be Carolina, again, it might be Tampa.
12:32It could be.
12:33It could be.
12:34And I know that Baker got you the first time, but that was a different Tampa team than what you have now.
12:38And you had a devastating injury in the middle of that game, early in that game,
12:42which kind of cast a pall over the whole team.
12:45And I do think that the way this team is now, the defense has been awesome against, you're right, bad offenses.
12:52But the offense now, I think, is ready to hum, and you've got the O-line all intact,
12:57and you've got Kittles healthy and all the rest of it.
13:00I do think you're more built to go out to Tampa and win a road game.
13:04So, Tampa on the road, you can win.
13:07Carolina, I believe it.
13:10Chicago, if it happens to be them, I believe you can win that game as well.
13:14And if you look at the Shanahan record as a head coach in his history,
13:19he's actually better on the road than he is at home.
13:22I mean, he's had a great run in terms of doing some things on the road and in the playoffs and all of that.
13:30And look, we can go back a few weeks.
13:32It doesn't really make sense here because the Niners were different then.
13:35Mac Jones was playing, and the offensive line had people going in and out.
13:39But if I do look at the last three times they had to go against quote-unquote playoff teams, they lost.
13:46They lost.
13:47They lost to Tampa.
13:48They lost to Houston.
13:49They lost to the Rams.
13:50And Matt Stafford, I'm racking my brain.
13:54I can't even remember an incompletion.
13:56Was there an incompletion in that game?
13:57Because it didn't feel like it.
14:00So, that was a while ago.
14:02I believe the Niners are getting better and getting healthier.
14:06But before I get on the, I think we're going to win playoff games.
14:10I think we're going to go on a run.
14:13I'm hopeful of that.
14:14I don't think that.
14:16Not yet.
14:17That's all.
14:18That's just where I'm at.
14:18Yeah, and that's fine.
14:19I mean, I only think that because of the matchup that you might be looking at.
14:23And even if you go worst-case scenario, which even if they're the seventh seed and you go out there and you take on the two seed, which I don't even know if that'd be Green Bay at this point.
14:34Yeah.
14:34It might be Chicago.
14:35Could be.
14:36The Rams are probably on the inside track to be the one.
14:38But even if you have to go to Green Bay, there's something about this Packer team and Jordan Love that I'm not totally sold on.
14:46Yeah, they're not.
14:47Nobody's perfect.
14:48There's nobody, you know.
14:49I mean, the Rams sometimes look the closest.
14:52But they're not perfect.
14:54They're not perfect.
14:55They lost a couple of weeks ago.
14:56Niners beat them earlier in the year.
14:58Yep.
14:58They know each other really, really well.
15:01Let's go to Dave in the city.
15:02Hi, Dave.
15:03Thank you for calling Willard and Debs.
15:04What's up?
15:06Hey, good afternoon, fellas.
15:07I just want to say we cannot let this up coming this weekend.
15:12But Shanahan's record coming off of a bye is absolutely godly, so I don't see that coming.
15:17We absolutely have the chance to, you know, fight for our own destiny.
15:22I guess the Seahawks at the end because I honestly think that the Lions are going to upset the Rams this weekend.
15:27You can lock it in.
15:28Yeah.
15:29But for – I think so.
15:33Dave, do you want to say kukush?
15:35Do you want to say kukush, Dave?
15:38I want to say kukush and I want to say kukum.
15:41I love it.
15:42Our guy over there in Miami.
15:44Well done, David.
15:45You're a good listener, Dave.
15:47Keep going.
15:48Kukum.
15:48But I do want to say what have we really hung our hats on on offense.
15:54I think it's going to be this year that we're going to be in a bunch of shootouts.
15:58And our defense is going to be at the point where we bend as hard as we can not to break.
16:03And, you know, our defense has to kind of just be there to the very end.
16:08And I think Brock is going to really start showing out and, you know, get us on a run and get us hot to go to the playoffs.
16:16Dave, thanks, man.
16:17Number one, baby.
16:18Here we come.
16:18Okay, Dave, thanks.
16:19Appreciate it, man.
16:20I will say this about this Rams-Lions matchup that's coming up this weekend.
16:27I do remember a few things.
16:28Number one, Lions have a big rest advantage.
16:31They played last Thursday.
16:32Yep.
16:33Look at you.
16:34Number two, the Lions will be beyond desperate.
16:40And so, do they have what it takes?
16:43Maybe not.
16:44You know, like that's really hard.
16:46They got to go.
16:46But you got to fast track, dome kind of a game between the Rams and Lions.
16:52Like the first thing I want to tell everybody is start your fantasy players.
16:55Like, wow.
16:57Wow.
16:57That Rams-Lions game is perfection for fantasy football this time of year.
17:03So I should start Jameer Gibbs?
17:03Is that what you're saying?
17:05All right.
17:06Go ahead and cut that so I can remember it.
17:08Start Gibbs.
17:09I want you to, hopefully you got Amon Roth, you got a quarterback.
