00:00And it's not just that they won, it's not just that they won the football game, it's
00:03the context, Dib, don't you get it?
00:06It's the context of what happened.
00:08Are you doing Steinematerial?
00:09No, you're looking at a football team that's clearly going through something.
00:16I know people don't like to hear injuries because everybody's got them, Seattle did
00:20too.
00:21But you're looking at a team that's trying to figure it out.
00:25They're trying to figure it out through a ton of adversity.
00:28Much of it is self-made, but here we are.
00:32And to have rookies out there turning the tides on Thursday night football on the road
00:39in the division in a game that you've got to have, I found a little bit inspiring, to
00:43be honest with you.
00:45And so 3-3, yay.
00:47That's not amazing, but like, they're okay.
00:50They're okay.
00:51And so I was thinking about this, because I know the backdrop of everybody's thought
00:55for this season.
00:57Super Bowl or bust.
00:58Kyle, you go to the playoffs or you suck, whatever.
01:02Whatever your thought is on this.
01:04And I started thinking about the fact that it's October 11th, which means Halloween and
01:13my dad's birthday and Thanksgiving and Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and Christmas and a new year.
01:25Diwali.
01:26Diwali.
01:28Let's see, me turning 50.
01:31Oh boy.
01:32A new president, both elected and inaugurated.
01:36In theory.
01:37An inauguration sensation.
01:38It might be.
01:39It could be another storming of the Capitol.
01:45Let's hope not.
01:46But that would happen before what you're talking about.
01:48That too.
01:49My son's going to turn 18.
01:50He's going to be an adult.
01:51We'll find out if he acts like one.
01:52Off you go.
01:53Lovely.
01:54Christy's going to have another birthday.
01:56He's going to be.
01:57Nice.
01:58Well played.
01:59Then the Super Bowl.
02:03Then it's in four months.
02:07Right.
02:08It's a third of the year away.
02:10Are you going to invite Kyle Shanahan to your watch party?
02:13Because he's not going to be there.
02:15He's not going to be busy.
02:16Whoever the 49ers will be in November, December and January has not shown itself yet.
02:24You have to hang in there and work through adversity until you get to a different time.
02:33So I would really love it if we could stop taking every game, every time we watch them
02:38take the field and then running it up against whether or not they're a Super Bowl team.
02:44They're the 49ers.
02:46They have shown you repeatedly through a period of time that they are a contender and they
02:52are okay.
02:53They are okay.
02:54Hey, hey, I'm here to say the Super Bowl is four months away.
03:02That's what last night felt like to me.
03:05Well last night felt like a lot of things and we can all agree that when they were up
03:09by six and Seattle had the ball twice, you had that same feeling and I know you did and
03:15I know I did and I was texting with my father in law who is locked in on all this stuff
03:20and you know, he was having some similar feelings and I talked to my wife who is a elementary
03:27school PE teacher.
03:28I talked to the principal today at one of her schools and he's a P1 listener and he's
03:33locked in as well and we all had that same feeling and the question was, when did you
03:38have that feeling of, oh no, I've seen this movie before?
03:42And it was when, for me it was when they clearly should have had a punt fumble recovery and
03:49they didn't and it's like, oh my God, if they can't get that call, which seemed pretty obvious,
03:56if they can't get that call right and Seattle's going to get the ball, well then God, this
04:01one's starting to feel like Arizona and LA and so I had that feeling of like, oh God,
04:07really?
04:08You're up 23 to three and a kick return for a touchdown, which doesn't happen anymore,
04:13happened.
04:14It's kind of one of those moments that feels like a higher power is just working against
04:19the 49ers.
04:20The football gods, right?
04:21If you want to call it that.
04:22And you play golf and sometimes you hit a drive and it's like, okay, and then it hits
04:26a sprinkler head and it goes left and now you're in the well of a tree and it's like,
04:30okay, now I've got to punch out and sometimes you hit a shot and it hits a branch and you're
04:35in the middle of the fairway.
04:36I hit a hole in one one time, but it was a hole in a tree.
04:39I'm not kidding you.
04:40Nice.
04:41The ball, like it was literally barely bigger than a ball and I found the ball in the tree.
04:45I'm like, that's a good shot right there.
04:47Gotta take a drop.
04:48Sometimes.
04:49Yeah.
04:50Sometimes.
04:51Look, and that's life, right?
04:52You're going to have stuff work against you.
04:54And I think it was the only time because I broke my rule last night.
04:57You know me, the phone goes face down during the games because there's just too much action.
05:01But you texted me.
05:02I know because I was that upset.
05:04I was that upset.
05:05And so I texted the show thread and I said, you better bring your damn ref jersey.
05:09And this is prior to us getting the reasoning that it was some sort of video malfunction
05:15in New York.
05:16Buzz, you better bring your ref shirt to work tomorrow because we need to have a conversation
05:21because you're right.
05:22It felt like this may end up going the wrong way, too.
05:26And this time, the 49ers would rightfully have someone to blame other than themselves.
05:31Because I don't I don't even understand.
05:33Like it is reasonable to assume that if you simply get that call right, it is reasonable
05:39to assume the Niners are at least up by two scores again.
05:44At least.
05:45Yep.
05:46That's a good assumption.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Most likely that they settle for a field goal because that's what they've done more often
05:50than not this year in the red zone.
05:52So yeah.
05:53Better yesterday.
05:54Yeah.
05:55Better.
05:56Better.
05:57Better.
05:58A couple of touchdowns, which was nice.
05:59But yeah.
06:00Twenty six.
06:01Seventeen.
06:02It feels like that would be more likely.
06:03And then, you know, Seattle comes down and does what they do.
06:04But ultimately, that call didn't swing the game, thankfully, because I don't want to
06:08do four hours on the process and the system because maybe just one, we could do a full
06:13hour on it, because for me, the takeaway is, how are we in this spot in twenty twenty
06:20four?
06:21And we can talk about replay across all sports.
06:24But really, this one is the most glaring because you've got the technology and you've got how
06:30many cameras last night in the Amazon game?
06:33Twenty five.
06:34Eight hundred.
06:35Forty two.
06:36Right.
06:37Seven hundred.
06:38I mean, Amazon, if I order right now a product from Amazon, it would be at my house before
06:42I was.
06:43Kyle Shanahan on his conference call today was asked if the league gives the 49ers an
06:47apology for what happened.
06:48Did you hear his answer?
06:50Take a listen to this.
06:51No.
06:52No, you don't get many apologies, but all you have to do once it happens, you got to
06:57move on with your life.
06:58I mean, you don't make it make it better.
07:00I'm just glad that it all worked out and just move on.
07:04You know what the league should do?
07:05I don't want an apology.
07:07Here's what I want.
07:08I want a little gift certificate.
07:10The next time we call and ask to wear white shirts because it's going to be 100 degrees,
07:16you're going to say, yes, that's what you're going to do, league, because you owe us one.
07:21Is that stupid?
07:22Sophomoric?
07:23Petty?
07:24I don't care.
07:25Yes, yes and yes.
07:26But but so is whatever the hell you did last night.
07:28So start handing out gift cards because apologies.
07:32He's right.
07:33Those do nothing for you.
07:34I'd rather have money.
07:35You know, if I'm Jed York, it's like, you know what, NFL, however much you got from
07:39your Amazon deal, free signing bonus or something, just give us how about you give us a million
07:44dollars because whatever you got from Amazon in terms of money is shared from 32 teams.
07:50Give us an extra share because your Amazon deal, it stinks as it pertains to getting
07:56calls right.
07:57Competitive balance, because if this game wasn't on Amazon, I would bet that they would
08:02have had the camera angles available.
08:04But for some reason in the league office, they didn't have the Amazon exclusive feed.
08:10And that's why they weren't able to make the call.
08:12Like is the league office not prime members?
08:15What I still didn't even has anybody done a deeper dive on this?
08:19What does that mean?
08:20The league office didn't have access to what we're all sitting there watching.
08:24Exactly.
08:25How about if they just turn on a television or they don't have an iPad, right?
08:29Or their phone.
08:30You don't even need a good.
08:32This didn't even need to be an HD.
08:34You got two fingers that are flying in an upward direction as the ball goes by.
08:40What is the deeper explanation for why the league couldn't see what every single one
08:44of us had on every device?
08:46I don't understand.
08:48I don't get it.
08:49Well, the deeper explanation is the camera feed that showed the two fingers flying up.
08:55And there was one camera angle, maybe two, I can't remember, but the league didn't have
09:01those cameras fed into their, their officiating epicenter.
09:06And that to me is the biggest issue.
09:07Does their epicenter not on the side just have a TV or like, not only do they not have
09:13a TV, do they not have like an Amazon prime feed?
09:17Yeah.
09:18Do you have Twitter?
09:19Do you have Instagram?
09:21Like honestly, that's why the more we sit here and talk about this, the more mind boggling
09:26it is.
09:27Right.
09:28And I, you're right.
09:29I don't want the whole, we're not going to do that.
09:31We're going to talk about victory Friday.
09:32Yep.
09:33And I, you know, we would love to know what sort of the sense is that you have after that.
09:38Is it relief?
09:39Is it, is it excitement?
09:41Are you still not convinced because the Seattle made a run eight at eight, nine, five, seven,
09:45nine, five 70 George and Eugene.
09:47Hi George.
09:48Thanks for calling Willard and Debs.
09:49Hey, thank you so much for taking the call.
09:54Mark Willard and Debs.
09:55Can I get a squirt?
09:56Squirt.
09:57Dan Dibley here.
09:58Squirt.
09:59It's a throwback.
10:00Excellent.
10:01My friend.
10:02Yeah, that was awesome.
10:03It is.
10:04The throwback is to Bill Walsh and God love him for teaching me how football should be
10:07played because the diners are playing not to lose.
10:10They did it in the Superbowl against Andy Reid.
10:13They're doing it now with not showing all of their plays.
10:16They have four o'clock management as far as being aggressive.
10:20And then they end up with this close game and it would not have been any kind of, you
10:24know, fingertip, whatever you get cheated all the time and calls you lose because the
10:29game was close.
10:30Blow them out.
10:31It's no question.
10:32You're done.
10:33Well, but George, that's easier said than done.
10:34Can I, I'd love to know what specific drive you're talking about where you feel the Norton
10:39Niners were playing not to lose.
10:43The first drive I take the Arizona home game when they started passing the ball the whole
10:47time.
10:48No, no, no.
10:49Let's talk about some, let's talk about last night, George, you were talking about last
10:53night.
10:54Forget, forget the first five games.
10:57In Seattle's instance, at the end of the game, they did drive it to win.
11:01And I was very appreciative of that.
11:02Not trying to lay up for a field goal, but they could have done more as far as positioning
11:08themselves to try for a more extravagant play.
11:12They keep running the mustard and ketchup, you know, get the May one in there.
11:16Let's get the Sriracha.
11:17Come on.
11:18And he holds it back for the end of the year because he doesn't want to show everybody
11:21his hand because he's afraid the big bad, Andy Reid's going to design a defense around
11:25it.
11:26Change it on the fly.
11:27Get, get a stick out there in the dirt, drop a play that's different than what you called.
11:31Make it happen.
11:32Come on.
11:33Well, George, you're certainly allowed your thought.
11:35It's an interesting one though.
11:36Thank you so much for the call.
11:37The mustard and ketchup was pretty good last night and a little bit of mayo.
11:40Yeah, Sriracha.
11:41If you got that kind of a tongue, go for it.
11:42But I, like I, it's all, but once again, fascinating because today's Friday.
11:48On Monday, they did not run the ball enough by Friday when they do run the ball down another
11:56team's throat.
11:57And you'd literally have multiple backs go north of 80 yards on Friday.
12:02Now we need more Sriracha sauce.
12:04And this is kind of my point.
12:05And I'm not even refuting what any of you feel about play calling.
12:09I simply have the belief now that in any 49er game, whatever they do, you all want the other
12:14thing to happen more.
12:16Sure.
12:17Even when they score 36 points and win a game.
12:20And at no point last night, did I feel like the 49ers were overly conservative?
12:26No, not at all.
12:27And I look at, you know, what they did and typical fashion, they got the lead and then
12:31they ran it and then you lost your running back and then you had your backup and then
12:35you had your third stringer who's really your fifth stringer because you don't have Elijah
12:39Mitchell or CMC.
12:41So even though you have your fourth and fifth string running back, you still ran it.
12:46And Isaac Grenda goes for 76 yards when you're trying to salt away the game.
12:50I don't know what we're expecting from Kyle Shanahan.
