07 December - National morning forecast presented by Tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Good morning. After a wet start to December, it's going to be a soggy Sunday for many of us,
00:05with further rain spreading north-easterwards across the UK today.
00:09It's already a damp start across more southern and western parts of the UK,
00:12with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, and that rain is going to continue to spread its way
00:16north-easterwards across the UK through the course of today.
00:19The rain always heaviest and most persistent across more north-western areas.
00:22Northern Ireland will see some 25mm of rain or more through the course of today,
00:26and that rain will continue to spread its way into Scotland by this afternoon.
00:30So potentially some surface water on the roads, perhaps leave yourself some extra time for your journeys today.
00:35Otherwise, it will turn a little bit drier across parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west
00:40as we go through this afternoon with some late sunshine.
00:43But here it will turn increasingly windy as we go towards the afternoon,
00:47perhaps even coastal gales across south-western parts of England later today.
00:51But the south-westly winds really bring in much milder air, even milder than yesterday,
00:56so highs of 13 or 14 degrees Celsius in places.
00:59A little bit chilly, though, further north, where that rain is most persistent.
01:02So after a cold start, no better than 8 or 9 Celsius across parts of Scotland.
01:07And into this evening, the rain continues to make its way further north,
01:10so even Shetland and Orkney will see some rain this evening.
01:13Gradually, though, most places will turn drier, and there will be some clear periods around for a time overnight.
01:19But then we see this next band of fairly heavy showers pushing eastwards as we go into the early hours of Monday morning.
01:26It will stay quite breezy overnight as well, and so therefore the temperatures are not going to fall very much at all.
01:31In actual fact, they'll probably stay in double figures in some towns and cities in the south.
01:35A tad chillier further north, but any frost will be very isolated and limited to the Scottish glens.
01:41Now, for most of us, Monday will be a much brighter day compared to on Sunday.
01:45There'll be some sunny spells at times. You'll still need to watch out for a few showers,
01:49and we could actually see some longer spells of rain, perhaps, across more central parts of Scotland.
01:53And generally speaking, it'll be western and northern parts of the UK that are most prone to seeing a few scattered heavy downpours on Monday.
02:01Quite blustery winds as well, but in the sunshine, it won't feel too bad in the south,
02:05with temperatures once again quite a bit above the average for early December.
02:10But generally in the south, it will start to turn cloudier as we go towards the afternoon and evening.
02:16And that sets the scene as we go into Monday night and into Tuesday.
02:19We are keeping very close eyes on this development out towards the west.
02:23A deep area of low pressure could start to move towards the UK as we go through Monday and into Tuesday.
02:29And look at these isobars. They really pop out of the area of low pressure as we move into Tuesday.
02:33So it's going to turn increasingly windy. We've already got a rainfall warning in place across south Wales and south-west England
02:39for Monday night and into Tuesday. But there'll also be, potentially in some parts of the UK, some very strong winds.
02:45So something to really keep a close eye on and stay tuned to the forecasts if you do have plans over the next few days.
02:51There could be some severe weather, particularly on Monday night and into Tuesday.
02:54There could be some severe weather, any rainfall sheets.
