National evening forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good evening. It's a case of rain or showers for most of us this weekend.
00:05We've got some very unsettled weather indeed and that's all due to low pressure.
00:09Very big area of low pressure out to the north and west bringing wet weather, windy weather,
00:14a brief drier interlude Saturday night into Sunday but the next band will move in through Sunday afternoon.
00:21We've got our first band of rain actually moving in through this evening across many northern areas.
00:26After a fairly dry day here, the rain will arrive, bringing a risk of snow over the Grampians
00:31but for most of us it's going to be a case of rain.
00:35Some of these showers behind the main band will be quite heavy and blustery, particularly across southern coast.
00:41There's a risk of hail in these too, so it's going to be pretty unpleasant.
00:45Drier actually across many eastern areas but the strength of the winds and the amount of cloud
00:49mean that temperatures will be well above freezing for most of us, just away from the very far northwest of Scotland.
00:56So a mild but damp start to the weekend and the winds will continue to be fairly strong
01:01across many southwestern areas as well as these risk of very heavy blustery downpours.
01:07Now there will be some dry weather around on Saturday, particularly across parts of eastern Scotland,
01:11northeastern England actually in the afternoon and Northern Ireland getting away with a fairly dry day,
01:16especially considering the rain you would have seen through this evening.
01:20Now the one piece of good news with all this rain and cloud is that it's fairly mild.
01:24Highs of around 12 degrees across southwestern areas but with the strength of the winds you won't feel the benefit of this.
01:30But in any dry weather across eastern and northeastern areas it will feel slightly better than today.
01:36Now into Saturday afternoon and evening it does turn much drier.
01:40We've got a ridge of high pressure just building in just for a time.
01:43So some clear skies will develop, a risk of some mist and fog around as well, particularly over the hills and mountains.
01:49And under those clear skies temperatures will fall away a little bit lower than the past couple of nights.
01:54We'll see temperatures down into freezing across some northeastern areas.
01:58But across the west notice temperatures actually up in double digits to start the day on Sunday,
02:0311 degrees with a batch of rain moving in for the day on Sunday.
02:08Now we'll stay dry ahead of this band of rain.
02:10The cloud could take a while to clear and it will turn quite hazy if you do see the sunshine quite quickly.
02:15Now this band of rain will move through fairly quickly, the heaviest patch of rain at least.
02:20But there will be a legacy of cloud left behind across many southern and western areas.
02:25And it will feel very mild with all that cloud around 14 degrees across parts of Devon and Cornwall
02:31as well as parts of the south coast of England.
02:33So it's going to be quite a different feel through Sunday afternoon for the south and west.
02:38Now that's not the end of the rain.
02:40It does look like we will see some potentially disruptive winds and rain through Tuesday.
02:46So please stay tuned throughout this weekend.
