00:05Well, I haven't killed you yet.
00:08Mel Gibson is stepping behind the camera to direct Lethal Weapon 5,
00:11which will likely be the final installment of the action franchise.
00:14Richard Donner, who directed all the previous Lethal Weapon movies,
00:17had been developing a fifth film on and off for years,
00:20but the project was put in limbo when the director died in July at age 91.
00:24Gibson revealed that he was taking over while speaking at an experience with event in London.
00:28According to London's The Sun, Gibson said of Donner,
00:31he was developing the screenplay and he got pretty far along with it.
00:34He said to me one day, listen kid, if I kick the bucket, you will do it.
00:38And I said, shut up.
00:39Gibson continued, he did indeed pass away, but he did ask me to do it,
00:43and at the time, I didn't say anything.
00:44He said it to his wife and to the studio and the producer,
00:47so I will be directing the fifth one.
00:49The first Lethal Weapon was released in 1987
00:51and was one of the first studio movies to establish Gibson as a Hollywood star.
