00:01Are you having any negative thoughts?
00:04Why?
00:05I have my negative thoughts.
00:08Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix is on its way to be
00:10becoming the top grossing R-rated movie of all time.
00:13But it turns out that Jared Leto tried
00:15to shut it down before the film even got off the ground.
00:18Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter's Kim Masters that
00:20when the Oscar-winning actor learned of the Todd Phillips-directed movie,
00:23he not only complained bitterly
00:25to his agents at CAA, who also represent Phillips,
00:28but asked his music manager or
00:30serving Azov to call the leader of Warner's parent company,
00:33with the idea in mind to get the studio to
00:35kill the movie.
00:36Can you introduce me as Joker?
00:38A source in Leto's camp denies that the actor made
00:40that request and Azov declined to comment.
00:43Azov and Leto have since parted ways.
00:45Leto, of course, played the grinning crime lord in 2016's Suicide Squad.

00:55THR previously reported that the 47-year-old star thought Warner Brothers had
01:00strung him along with promises of his own Joker standalone film, only to greenlight the film
01:05The Phillips version with Joaquin Project would be a small movie and,
01:08nervous about its dark tone, greenlit the film.
01:10reluctantly with a small budget that some of the studio were hoping would discourage Phillips from
01:15making it.
01:16Warner Brothers declined to comment.
01:17I didn't know if I even really existed.
01:20But I do.
01:24At this point, sources say
01:25Leto's days as the Joker likely are over.
01:28He will not reprise the role in the upcoming DC movie.
01:30Birds of Prey or James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, due out in 2021.
