00:00You put a radar in place, nothing we can do about that.
00:03But at the same time, my only concern about the radar really is,
00:09have we now opened a $5 box in a sense where from Point Tobago becomes the target.
00:16Mr. McLean said with the Venezuela U.S. crisis,
00:20tourism numbers in Tobago have suffered a major blow.
00:23The problem, if I go back three months,
00:26when we had 76% occupancy at the hotel for the Christmas into the New Year period,
00:34three weeks ago, we were down to 42%.
00:38So since this Venezuela U.S.A. crisis has started,
00:43occupancy in Tobago has been a drastic drop.
00:46He said there have been cancellations throughout hotels and guest houses across Tobago.
00:53There's been quite a number of cancellations.
00:55We have gone from 76% over the Christmas into the New Year period three months ago,
01:03the 42% three weeks ago.
01:07So right away, that's a 24%, 34% decrease.
01:12We have gotten a small uptick since three weeks ago, and we're up to 58%, I believe.
01:22But bookings have definitely slowed down again.
01:25Where they had started to increase, they've slowed right back down.
01:28And we are getting reports of the same from various operators in Tobago.
01:33Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
