00:00Speaking on the TV6 Morning Edition, Secretary of Finance Petal Ann Roberts says the DHA has begun the process of
00:08reducing outstanding debt to contractors.
00:11Noting that while the task cannot be completed overnight, efforts are already underway to improve that situation.
00:19There is this talk that we are not and we are not and that is not true Maran, I want
00:22to dispel that, that we have been paying.
00:25Up to fiscal 2025, the figure was close to 100 million.
00:29This fiscal, we have already paid 35 million and I intend to settle another 25 million for the rest of
00:38the year.
00:38She also points to tourism as a critical economic driver, expressing hope that future security strategies will better reflect Tobago's
00:48unique circumstances,
00:50following concerns about the impact of the state of emergency on the sector.
00:54Because of where Tobago is positioned, we depend solely on tourism, we depend on the international arrivals
01:02and I'm actually asking the government to kind of look at the way in which we treat with handling the
01:11national security matters in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:15Tobago needs to be, in many regards, treated differently.
01:18Secretary Roberts says modernizing and optimizing Tobago's public service will also be a key priority.
01:27We want to build out the use of digitization, training.
01:32We take it for granted that people know, you know.
01:35People come into the public service and they don't know.
01:38Concentrate on human capital development, digitization.
01:42We want to build out a digitized, intelligent island.
01:46According to Finance Secretary Roberts, the upcoming budget will place special emphasis on greater inclusion of the differently abled,
01:55Tobago's culture, carnival, food security and food sovereignty.
