A call is being made for Tobago to do better in the maintenance and management of its tourism sector. The appeal follows a report of a fire hazard on board a reef tour vessel operating within the Buccoo Reef Marine Park. The matter was raised by visitors who arrived aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Sky, which docked at the Scarborough Port on Monday. The incident has since been reported to the cruise line's head office in Florida. More in this report by Elizabeth Williams.

00:00Of course, you've seen the photo, with that rag holding the hose in that container, it's a fire hazard.
00:10TV6 News was provided with photographic evidence of a fire hazard on board a reef tow vessel on Monday at the Buku Reef Marine Park in Tobago.
00:20According to Mr. Carvalho, a series of additional concerns at Pigeon Point were also formally reported to the Norwegian Sky Cruise Liner.
00:32At Tobago, we got a whole, from the same ship here, a whole series of issues at Pigeon Point. So we are trying to deal with that.
00:41Mr. Carvalho said there must be quality control management and monitoring.
00:47Every time I raise concern from the cruise lines, it comes about, it comes across to the people of Tobago.
00:56Even in Trinidad, Mr. Carvalho is a miserable person. You follow? Even in meetings.
01:03Oh, he talking again. Oh, what he want again. But that attitude must change.
01:08Because, remember, we're speaking on behalf of the cruise line. And when we get correspondence and queries from the cruise lines, we have to follow up.
01:19Carvalho said it is his intention to meet with newly re-elected Assemblymember and Tourism Secretary Zerisha Hackett to address the concerns that have reached his desk.
01:31We are working towards meeting the new Secretary for Tourism in Tobago. That is on our agenda. It's just that we have a lot of back-to-back cruise ships right now.
01:40And Carnival is on our hands, so we have a Carnival ship coming here for five days. Plus, we have other ships on that.
01:45So, we have that on our agenda to meet with the new Secretary of Tourism to highlight most of these things.
01:52Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
01:54And we'll see you next time.
