02:12a ball. There's going to be a lot of fun for all. Everybody's having fun. Everybody's
02:18number one. Everybody's writing the show. Thanks for the new lyrics, Susan. If you want
02:24a copy of our new song, it's on a Zoom card. Write to Zoom and we'll send you one.
02:30Write to Zoom and we'll send you one. If Chris and Lavelle were one thing, what a lovely
02:44corral that would be.
02:52We have a new version of musical chairs. Louise Yates of East Orange, New Jersey, sends us
02:58the rules. See if you can guess them while we play.
03:01Okay. There was a tiny, tiny little house, no bigger than four inches, and it was on this
03:07lily pad. It was in a huge pond. Okay. And there was a boy who used to go to the pond every
03:15day and he used to swim in the pond. And one day he was swimming among the lily pads and
03:22he bumped into this lily pad to have the house. And no one before had ever seen this house.
03:28And in this house, these tiny, tiny little people that were so small you could barely
03:33even see them. However, this boy had magical powers. And so he could see these little people.
03:38And all, and then all of a sudden, oh, okay. Out of nowhere popped out a monster. And that monster always used to say two certain words. And, and then.
04:04This monster got really mad for looking at his playhouse with the play dolls in it. And he said, this is my playhouse and nobody touches it. And then.
04:23And the monster said, I don't want you touching this house again. And then.
04:41I went the other way. I went the other way. I went the other way. So did I. And then the monster died.
04:50Everybody got to move out a little bit.
04:58And so. And so. And so the monster died. And then came.
05:05And then the monster died. So the monster came. And he died. And then.
05:21And a little people. And a little people. And a little people grew up to be monsters. And then.
05:35Ow.
05:39There's one to go.
05:51My name is Tony Carpino.
06:13I live with my older brother Armando.
06:17And my older sister Josephine.
06:19And my twin brother Carmelo.
06:21And my twin brother Carmelo.
06:21And my twin brother Carmelo.
06:21And my twin brother Carmelo.
06:23And my twin brother Carmelo.
06:24We don't live with our parents at all.
06:35It's just us four kids.
06:45And I was born in Italy.
06:46All my family was born there.
06:52My parents were up there.
06:54Lived there.
06:55And were married there.
06:59When I was around seven.
07:01My mother died.
07:02We all moved over to the United States.
07:06My brother and I lived with my father.
07:09But we had problems with him.
07:11And moved to my brother's and sister's house.
07:13In Italy the way we lived was totally different.
07:20It was really scary coming to a country for the first time.
07:24I really missed my friends and family in Italy.
07:28When we came over we didn't speak one word of English.
07:31Then I started learning English, you know.
07:34Learned my first couple of words and things.
07:36So I just got easy as time went on.
07:38I mean there's a lot of things we missed from Italy.
07:46We're still glad to be here.
07:52Armando works at the stop and shout.
07:55What are you doing?
07:56What's going on, Jerry?
07:57Want to help?
07:58Armando wants us to learn a lot.
08:00He's always sort of teaching us things.
08:02Want another to rap?
08:04You think you can do it?
08:05No.
08:05Armando's like a brother and a father to me.
08:18Right?
08:20That's to be nice.
08:21If I have a problem with something, I treat him like a father.
08:24I like doing this.
08:25I like this.
08:26Yeah, but most of the time when we go do things together, I treat him like a brother.
08:31You think you're going to be as good as I am?
08:33You told me that day.
08:34I don't know.
08:35I'm sure you will.
08:36All right, I'm going to go try him, all right?
08:38You can rap.
08:38Okay.
08:41All right, that's the last one out there.
08:43See you later, I think.
08:44Okay, I'll stick it.
08:45Make sure you buy the stuff for the seller, all right?
08:47Okay, for tonight?
08:48Okay.
08:48See you later.
08:49I'll see.
08:49All right, I'll see.
08:49All right, I'll see you later.
09:19So, me and Kamala learned how to work together and to compromise.
09:25So, if we want to do different things, he won't go his way and I'll go my way.
09:29We just try to talk it out which one's the best.
09:33You can't open it with your hand.
09:34You need a finger.
09:35Let me see that.
09:41All right, I won't open it.
09:42There it goes.
09:43So, what are we going to do tonight?
09:45Go play baseball?
09:47I don't know if we'll be able to fit more stuff in here.
09:49It looks good.
09:50Where I lived in Italy, it was a small town.
10:00Everybody knew each other and everybody helped each other.
10:03It was all one big family.
10:09If you needed something, you know, you would ask somebody else and they'd give it to you.
10:11People over here don't know each other too much.
10:23Like, if you go a block away, you can know nobody.
10:27Maybe that's one of the reasons why our family over here is so close.
10:30I don't know.
10:54Maybe I spent a few more like this.
10:56I don't know.
11:00My aunt and uncle and cousins live nearby.
11:13They came over from Italy too.
11:20We had a lot of problems and a lot of difficulties at first.
11:24I think the only main thing they got us through was we had a lot of patience.
11:27But we all have different chores.
11:30If we do everything we're supposed to do, we all stay together.
11:43If Ron and Jennifer were one thing, what a lovely Ronifer that would be.
11:49Welcome to Zoom News and Weather, presenting important issues from around the country, straight from you.
12:07Today, our reporters have news from New Jersey, Illinois, and New York.
12:13Take it away, reporters.
12:14Thank you, Chris.
12:15In Tonawanda, New York, Stacy Ray and Lisa Aloisio are upset.
12:23They say, quote,
12:25We have a problem.
12:27It's our parents.
12:28Our moms will let us go back and beat boys up.
12:32Our fathers won't.
12:34We are tomboys and really don't like our fathers holding us back from fighting boys.
12:39We are frustrated.
12:41Unquote.
12:41Ron?
12:42Thank you, Al.
12:44And in Libertyville, Illinois, Peter Phillips reports,
12:48I wrote to the President of the United States.
12:51All he wrote back was,
12:53Dear Peter, the President enjoys hearing from you.
12:56He didn't even answer any of my questions.
12:59None.
13:00I don't think it's fair.
13:01Just because I'm a kid doesn't mean I don't know anything.
13:05Karen?
13:06Thank you, Ron.
13:07Well, Ward Geyer in Paramus, New Jersey, has a very good question for all kids.
13:13He asks, quote,
13:15How old would you like to be and why?
13:18Unquote.
13:18Back to you, Chris.
13:20Thank you, Karen.
13:22Ward, we have some answers to those very questions, don't we, Accardio?
13:26Indeed we do, Chris.
13:28Today's weather is whether you would like to be a child or an adult.
13:32Here are what Zoom viewers around the country had to say.
13:36Child or adult?
13:41I don't know.
13:42I guess I'd rather be an adult because you've got so much more privileges.
13:48Because if you're a kid, you get people bossing you around.
13:50If you're an adult, you get to do the bossing around.
13:52An adult?
13:54Because I think an adult, you'd be more sophisticated and you know more what you'd still be learning in life.
14:01I'd rather be an adult because I would like to be a professional baseball player.
14:09I'd rather be an adult because you can help yourself.
14:11If you're a child, you need somebody to help you.
14:16Well, I don't know.
14:17A child because you get more fun, like riding a bike or skateboarding.
14:21I'd rather be a child because, I don't know, like there's so many more responsibilities when you're an adult and everything.
14:27And like you get a lot of free, you get to be so free when you're a kid.
14:30I'd rather be a child because I'm having fun at it.
14:33And that's today's Zoom news and weather.
14:36What's happening in your town?
14:38Send your letter to Zoom, Box 350, Boston, Mass., 02134.
14:45This is a poem written by me, and it's called Adolescence.
14:49Have I come to adolescence?
14:51After all, I'm 12.
14:53I have a crush on every boy I meet, almost.
14:56Have I come to adolescence?
14:58I argue with my mother almost once a day.
15:01I have a couple pimples, but they're not there anymore.
15:04Have I come to adolescence?
15:06I worry about clothes.
15:08I have a crush on every boy I meet, almost.
15:11Have I come to adolescence?
15:13Have I?
15:13My name is Theodore Devil.
15:35I've been doing some good deeds lately, and frankly, I'm kind of discouraged with myself.
15:39May I help you across the street, madame?
15:48Oh, you little devil.
15:49Right this way.
15:51Thanks a lot, devil.
15:52It was my pleasure.
15:55Did you hear that Martha was 10 pounds left for me?
15:57Yeah, and she gained it all back this week.
15:59She still looks pretty corny and hot, man.
16:00Yeah, I know.
16:02I saw Marge at the pool, and she's stuck.
16:03Hand over that lollipop, kid.
16:11Taking candy from a baby, you ought to be ashamed.
16:14Oh, take the crummy lollipop.
16:17What kind of devil are you going around doing good deeds?
16:20Here you go, kid.
16:21Did you see that?
16:32I've been doing so many good deeds lately.
16:34I don't know what's happening to me.
16:36I'm losing all my devilinity.
16:38I'm just no bad anymore.
16:41Oh, my horn fell off.
16:43Oh, and there goes my other one.
16:46It's so embarrassing.
16:48I'm falling apart at the seams.
16:50I look like a devil, but I don't act like it.
16:57Looks like I'm all washed up.
17:09If Nell and Karen were one thing,
17:12what a lovely Nelloran that would be.
17:20Diane Cheeses of Balder, New York, wrote us a letter,
17:27and this is what it says.
17:29Dear Zoom, this problem might happen to other boys and girls.
17:32Recently, my mother got remarried,
17:34and we moved to Long Island from Flatbush, Brooklyn.
17:37How do you think it feels to move to a strange neighborhood
17:39and get a new family all at once?
17:42I didn't know how putting two families together would work out.
17:45I was a bit scared.
17:46I had never known my father and had never had a brother.
17:49Would we fight?
17:50Would my new stepfather yell at me?
17:52Then there was a new school and new friends
17:54and even new aunts, uncles, and cousins.
17:57Would we all like the same things to do or even eat?
18:00Yes, I was worried.
18:01But I found out it can all work out if you try hard.
18:05We all get along, although we have all had to make many changes.
18:08I've discovered that I like family living.
18:11My mom doesn't work anymore.
18:13I get along with my new brother within reason.
18:15And having a new dad is nice.
18:17I'm even learning how to live in the country
18:19with the squirrels and the birds.
18:21How would other boys and girls feel?
18:27I think it would be hard.
18:29I mean, you're so used to living one way
18:31and then all of a sudden you have to change.
18:33Yeah, and my prayers are divorced.
18:36And, like, my father's up on the Cape
18:37and my mother was here.
18:38I live with my mother.
18:40And, I don't know, it's all, it's different.
18:42You know, like, staying with each other.
18:44I mean, different people.
18:45Yeah, it's, like, my mother divorced my father.
18:48I said I have a new stepfather.
18:49But at first, like, I couldn't call,
18:51I had a call by his name, Pedro.
18:54It's Pedro, right?
18:55But now, like, I can talk, I can talk to him.
18:58Yeah, you feel comfortable.
18:59In a manner, yeah.
19:00Now, because he's been with us almost for years, I think.
19:03I think it would be hard to call my new father, dad.
19:06Because you think of your other father and you say,
19:08well, maybe he would feel bad if I started calling him dad.
19:10Oh, yeah, that's the problem with my father.
19:12It's hard.
19:13He really, he likes the guy, right?
19:16But it's something that he can't really,
19:19he'll say it in front of me,
19:20but deep down I can know that, you know,
19:21he really, I have to be with him more than, I don't know.
19:24Like, sometimes my dad, my real dad in Canada would ask me,
19:27do you kiss him?
19:30And I would say, yeah.
19:31Yeah.
19:32I mean, you know, he's my stepfather and stuff.
19:34Yeah, I think the father would sort of get jealous
19:35because he knows that you're his kid,
19:37except you're living with another dad.
19:39Yeah, he doesn't want you to feel,
19:41well, he's her father, she can call him dad,
19:43you know, and everything else,
19:44and feel that the kid isn't wanted by the other,
19:47the real parent.
19:48Yeah, my father married, my father married again,
19:53and then, you know, he has a son,
19:54so I got this 10-month-old brother,
19:56and it's really different.
19:56It's hard to call him, call her, you know, mom or anything,
19:59but every once in a while, you know, it just pops out, mom.
20:03No, I would think, like, my parents aren't divorced,
20:06but I would think if they got divorced and they married again
20:08and they married someone,
20:09and I was living with them who had a kid,
20:11I think it would be so hard to move in with a new kid
20:14and just suddenly live with a new kid you've never heard of.
20:16I think that sometimes if you want, you know,
20:19if your brother was, you were mad at your brother,
20:21you'd think, oh, why'd this whole thing have to happen?
20:23And it's a lot harder because if I had to have another sister,
20:27another brother, or, you know, I got,
20:29my parents got divorced and stuff,
20:31I think if I was mad at them,
20:33oh, this is so stupid and all this,
20:34and why can't it just be like the old days?
20:36You know what, I think the hottest thing
20:38of having a stepfather, stepmother
20:41is giving them a card on Christmas or a different day
20:45It's really hard for me to write him,
20:50oh, I love you and everything,
20:52but I do it, but when I do it, I'll just split.
20:57I think the parents would be more nervous than the kids,
21:00especially the guy who's new to the family.
21:04He would be so nervous.
21:05Yeah, because he'd want to, yeah,
21:07he'd want to please the kids,
21:09and he wouldn't want them to get a bad impression at the start,
21:11so then they wouldn't like him.
21:13Like them.
21:13Like, you know what I always got at the beginning,
21:16and then, like, he'd be, sorry,
21:18then he'd be scared to, you know,
21:20he got mad at the kid,
21:21he'd go, well, you did such and such,
21:23and then he'd say, man, should I spank this kid or not?
21:26Should I give him a good whack?
21:27Yeah, but then they might get really mad at them,
21:30but then afterwards, they think,
21:31why did I do this?
21:32Because they're really nervous that they might hate him.
21:34Do you know what I don't like is, like,
21:35you know how you ever, like,
21:37your mother comes up to you,
21:38don't do that, because, you know.
21:39Even though it feels bad.
21:40Yeah, it makes you stepfather.
21:42And, you know, it's really bad,
21:44because, like, when your mother,
21:45when your stepfather has arguments or something,
21:48it'll make you feel bad.
21:50I say, oh, what's going to become, you know.
21:51And you're the one who's the main purpose,
21:54because, you know,
21:55they don't want to tell you right off or nothing.
21:57I think it's a lot worse than the parents,
21:58even though you may think it isn't.
22:00I don't really know,
22:01but I would think it would be a lot worse than the parents,
22:03because if, say, you'd get in a bad mood,
22:06and then you'd say,
22:07oh, I'm really mad that all this happened,
22:09and then the parents would say,
22:11they'd feel so bad, but they...
22:14We have a whole life ahead of us every day.
22:16Yeah, I know.
22:17And some of them don't.
22:18If parents get into the worst,
22:19I think one of the worst things they can do
22:20is have the kid decide who they want to live with.
22:23Yeah, that's what parents ask me.
22:23Because I think either way,
22:24they're going to have hard feelings.
22:26Maybe it's good for some kids,
22:29but I don't think you should do it when,
22:30first of all, when they're too young.
22:32And second of all,
22:32I'm not so sure you should do it,
22:33because it hurts either parent,
22:35either way.
22:36I think it's such a hard decision on the kid.
22:38My mother, my mother went,
22:40first thing she did was that we had a little discussion,
22:44me and my sister, my mother.
22:46She said, well, kids, I like this man,
22:50and I'm planning to marry him,
22:52but if you don't like him or anything,
22:55well, you know, I don't have to get married.
22:56And me and my sister said, you know,
22:58why should we spoil him?
23:00Yeah, my mother's had enough problems too.
23:02So we said, it's all right, you know.
23:04I can imagine.
23:06Even though it'd be hard to get used to it,
23:07but I can imagine.
23:09What's that girl's name?
23:10Diane.
23:11Diane.
23:12She's walking down the street
23:13with a new brother or sister.
23:15Everybody say, she, her brother or sister,
23:18they move with her,
23:20and she's walking down the street
23:21with this girl or this boy following her.
23:24And I said, who's that behind you?
23:25Who's that following?
23:27That's my new brother.
23:28You got a new brother?
23:30How fast can he grow?
23:32Hey, you have a new kid in the block, aren't you?
23:59Yeah.
24:00What's your name?
24:01Hey, my name's Chris.
24:03Oh, how do you do, Chris?
24:04I'm one.
24:05Huh?
24:06Oh, come on, I'll show you how.
24:10You stick out your heart and hand
24:13to every woman, kid, and man.
24:16You shake it up and down
24:18with a how do you do?
24:21On our sidewalk, on our street,
24:24everybody that you meet,
24:26well, you shake it up and down
24:29with a how do you do.
24:30How do you do?
24:30How do you do?
24:31How do you do?
24:31How do you do?
24:32How do you do?
24:33Do-dee-do.
24:34How do you do?
24:35Do-dee-do-dee-do.
24:36How's your dad?
24:38How's your mama?
