00:30Thank you for listening.
01:00So let's make the most of this beautiful day, beautiful day.
01:08Since we're together, we might as well say, would you be mine?
01:14Could you be mine?
01:15Won't you be my neighbor?
01:18Won't you please?

01:23Please won't you be my neighbor?
01:28It is a beautiful day.
01:29It doesn't matter what it's like outside.
01:32It can be a beautiful day inside.
01:35Some young neighbors of mine made some drawings of our neighborhood trolley, and I'd like you
01:42to see them.
01:44I want you to see how different people draw the very same thing.
01:50Here are some of them.
01:51There's a trolley.

02:27Another trolley.
02:28How would you draw the trolley?
02:48Since each person is somewhat different from everyone else in the world, each one of us
02:54would draw the trolley in a different way.
02:57Isn't that wonderful?
03:00Have you ever made a drawing of something and given it to someone just because you wanted
03:06to, just because you loved that person?
03:11You know, there are many different ways of saying, I love you.
03:16In fact, I like to think about times when I've seen people showing their love for others.
03:23I love you.
03:25I love you.
03:27I love you.
03:30I love you.
03:32I love you.

04:00I love you.
04:02I love you.
05:36There are many ways to say I love you.
05:43I love you.
05:51Look at these fish.
05:53Oh, it's as if they're dancing.
06:05Taking good care of your pets is a way of saying I love you.
06:10And, of course, taking good care of your friends and yourself, too.
06:16Let's see who's at the door.
06:19Mr. McFeely.
06:24Hi, Mr. McFeely.
06:26I've just completed working on something.
06:30What is it?
06:31I've been working on it ever since I knew you were interested in the arts.
06:35Well, is it something that you've made?
06:37It is a tape.
06:41A videotape?
06:42A videotape?
06:43And you actually made this?
06:44I made it.
06:45I thought you would like to see a lot of different artists all on one tape.
06:50Well, I would.
06:51Do you have time to watch it with me?
06:52I do.
06:53We'll put it in picture picture.
06:54Very good.
06:55Good for you, Mr. McFeely.
06:57I thought you would enjoy it.
06:59What a pleasure.
07:00Well, let's just watch Mr. McFeely's videotape.
07:29Good for you, Mr. McFeely.
07:32Good for you, Mr. McFeely.
07:36I'm sorry.
07:37Good for you, Mr. McFeely.
07:39Hey, Mr. McFeely.
07:41We'll keep going out today.
07:43There's a lot of fun.
07:44I'll be getting it.
07:45We'll just see you later.
07:46I'll wrap it up.
07:47Okay, it's good.
07:48Here, Mr. McFeely.
07:49I'll be playing in a direction.
07:54Well, let's be okay.
07:55I'll be in.
13:28If there's anything you want, if there's anything you need, McFeely's delivery brings it to you here with speed.
13:37Yes, our speedy delivery.
13:39Is a speedy delivery is a speedy delivery.
13:41A speedy delivery.
14:13Delivery to you.
14:15See you around the neighborhood.
14:17Thank you, Mr. McFeely.
14:18You're quite welcome.
14:20You're quite welcome.
14:22You're quite welcome.
14:24You're quite welcome.
14:25Bye-bye.
14:26Congratulations.
14:28Mr. McFeely is a wonderful friend and a wonderful artist.
14:30He's a wonderful artist.
14:31Wasn't that marvelous.
14:32Wasn't that marvelous how he wove together all of those different arts in his film.
14:37Some people surprise us in this life.
14:40I think it's important to look for what people are able to do.
14:48And once you find it, appreciate it.
14:50Let's have some make-believe.
14:52Hey, Charlie.
14:57Last time, we found out that Lady Elaine was hurting people's feelings because her feelings had been hurt.
15:10And when people started saying kind things to her, she started being kind herself.
15:20So now, let's see if everyone's ready for the Royal Arts Festival in the neighborhood of make-believe.
15:30Trolley?
15:31All right.
15:37Oh, yes, Trolley.
15:38It's almost time to begin.
15:41Well, sure, have a look around.
15:44Oh, there's the one Queen Sarah made.
15:47And, oh, there's Prince Tuesdays.
15:49And Daniel made that mobile.
15:51By the way, Trolley, have you seen Lady Elaine?
15:56Well, then I need you to help me find her.
15:59As the saying goes, you can't have an arts festival without the judge.
16:03You go one way, and I'll go this way.
16:06We've got to find her.
16:08Okay, Trolley?
16:09Yes, I tell you, Mayor Maggie, you're a work of art yourself.
16:16Well, I made this smock, and I made this hat, so I'm glad if you think I look artistic.
16:21You surely do.
16:23Um, did you make anything for the festival?
16:25Oh, yes, right here under the cloth.
16:28I was just about to take it to the castle.
16:32What is it?
16:33It's an artistic chair.
16:35A chair?
16:36Mm-hmm.
16:37Want to take its cover off?
16:39Yes.
16:40Yep.
16:41Why, it's beautiful.
16:43Yep.
16:44A festival rocket.
16:46And if you press that button, you'll see something else about it.
16:51That one, that's it.
16:53It rocks by itself.
16:56Yes.
16:57It's for a tiny person who's very tired.
17:02A tiny, tired person.
17:04Correct.
17:05Well, I'm a big person, and I'm not tired, but I still like looking at it.
17:11Okay.
17:12When the festival's over, it'll be yours, Mayor Maggie.
17:16You mean that?
17:18Sure.
17:19I love to give things to people who like them.
17:23You are such a generous person, Corny.
17:26I wish I had something I could give to you.
17:29Just the way your eyes lit up when you saw my chair is gift enough for me.
17:36Excuse me, please.
17:38Oh, Betty Okanak Templeton.
17:40That's my name, and I'm proud of it.
17:42And I'm on a search, as you can probably tell.
17:45What are you searching for?
17:47For your neighbor and my friend, Lady Elaine Fairchild.
17:50You mean Lady Elaine isn't here?
17:52Nobody's seen her since last time.
17:54Oh, I wonder what she's doing.
17:56All she said to me was that she was going to be doing the judging.
18:01Well, I'll keep looking.
18:03You know that's what friends are good for, looking for you when they can't find you.
18:08I always say you never know when your friend might show up and just delight you.
18:12You know what I mean.
18:13Uh, I guess so.
18:15Well, see you all.
18:17Okay, goodbye, Miss Templeton.
18:18Bye, Miss Templeton.
18:19Goodbye.
18:20Uh, isn't that something?
18:23Yes, it is.
18:24Oh.
18:25Sounds as if the king might be arriving.
18:28Yes, well, I'll see you over at the castle.
18:30Uh, will you take the chair to the festival for me?
18:34Of course, Corny.
18:35And thanks again.
18:36Oh, you're welcome.
18:38Uh, yes.
18:39Wonderful.
18:40Oh, is that, uh, Westwood mayor arriving?
18:41Uh.
18:42Correct as usual, King Friday.
18:43Uh, you certainly are fit for a festival, Mayor Maggie.
18:44May I say the same for you, sire?
18:45You may.
18:46Is that little chair you're offering?
18:47Uh, it was made by Cornflake especially, but he wants me to have it after the festival.
18:51Yes.
18:52See how it works?
18:53Oh, look at it, going neck and foot.
18:54Yeah.
18:55Lovely, yes.
18:56Ha-ha-ha.
18:57Ha-ha-ha.
18:58Ha-ha.
18:59It looks like it might be the same.
19:00Yes, sir.
19:01Oh, look at it.
19:02Oh, look at it going neck and foot.
19:04Yeah.
19:05Lovely, yes.
19:06Ha-ha-ha.
19:07Ha-ha-ha.
19:08Ha-ha-ha.
19:09Ha-ha-ha.
19:10Ha-ha.
19:11Ha-ha.
19:12Ha-ha.
19:13Ha-ha-ha.
19:14Ha-ha.
19:15Ha-ha.
19:16Ha-ha.
19:17Ha-ha.
19:18Ha-ha.
19:19Ha-ha.
19:20It looks like it might be for a tiny person.
19:23A tiny, tired person?
19:26Of course.
19:27Hi there, Maggie.
19:28Oh, hello.
19:29The castle looks beautiful.
19:30Yes.
19:31Neighbor Aver, I presume?
19:33Correct, as usual, King Friday.
19:35Uh, do you have your festival entry?
19:38I do, sire.
19:39Do you want it to be demonstrated inside or out?
19:42It makes no difference.
19:44The festival is everywhere today.
19:48As you can see.
19:49Oh, my.
19:50Oh, my.
19:51Averday, Okanak, Templeton, I presume?
19:54I guess one could say correct as usual, King Friday.
19:57Yeah.
19:58Not, of course, correct as always, King Friday.
20:01Yeah.
20:02Because no one, not even a king, is always correct.
20:05I see.
20:06At any rate, I have some good news.
20:08What is it?
20:09What?
20:10I've located Lainey.
20:11She's sorry she's late, but she'll be here with her entry in just a minute.
20:15Wow.
20:16Yes, it is.
20:17Yes, it is.
20:18All right, no need to wonder any longer.
20:22Uh, Lady Elaine Fairchild, I presume?
20:26Of course, Friday.
20:27Now, I want you all to take a look at my masterpiece.
20:32Her masterpiece.
20:33Masterpiece.
20:34Masterpiece.
20:35I do, too.
20:36I do, too.
20:37Oh, look.
20:38Well, well, Fairchild.
20:39Let me help you with that.
20:41Can you help me, Toots?
20:42Oh, thanks.
20:43You're welcome.
20:44Well, there it is.
20:46Oh, look at that.
20:47Oh, my.
20:48It's beautiful, Cousin Mary.
20:50Mary Olive.
20:51I've been working for it for days.
20:53Uh-huh.
20:54I can see that in Hula Mouse.
20:55I see you, Mayor Maggie.
20:56There I am.
20:57And Lady Aberlin.
20:59There you are, neighbor Aber.
21:00It's pictures of everybody here.
21:02All in one.
21:03You're right.
21:04And look how easy it is to find me.
21:07Oh, it surely is, Lady Elaine.
21:10There you go.
21:11We could find you any time, lady.
21:14Well, because of my big nose.
21:16Oh, I didn't say that.
21:18But I did.
21:20All of a sudden, I'm liking my big nose.
21:24It's distinctive.
21:26And what's more, ladies and gentlemen,
21:29as judge of this festival,
21:32I've decided to award that sketch masterpiece of mine
21:38first prize.
21:40First prize?
21:42But Lady Elaine, you haven't seen the other entries.
21:44Well, what else is there?
21:46Well, this tiny rocket by Corny.
21:50Let me see it.
21:52Pretty good.
21:54A first prize for Corny.
21:56Oh.
21:57And the sand sculpture.
21:59What about our Westwood sand sculpture?
22:01Ah, now there.
22:05I look at it with different eyes.
22:07A first prize for Westwood.
22:10A first prize?
22:11A first prize?
22:12How do you do that?
22:13Yes, first prize.
22:15Uh, and my new royal robes?
22:20Oh, a first prize for you, Friday.
22:23I marvel at what I'm hearing right now.
22:26Don't we all?
22:27Yes.
22:28Oh.
22:29And what about our newest entry?
22:30Oh, look!
22:31It's a prolly.
22:32Oh, so beautiful.
22:33Do you like it?
22:34Oh, neighbor, neighbor.
22:35It's wonderful.
22:36Oh, it's six grand.
22:37Look, lady.
22:38That's a grand entry.
22:39Oh, it's a grand entry.
22:41Oh, it's something special, really.
22:54Say, it is a descending trolley.
22:55What do you think?
22:57That is definitely another first prize.
23:01Oh, another first prize.
23:03What do you think?
23:04That is definitely another first prize.
23:07Oh, another first prize?
23:09Okay, now, everybody's waiting in the festival room.
23:13Waiting for the prizes, I bet.
23:15It's hard to wait.
23:17Well, everybody's going to get a first prize from me.
23:21Lady, what's making you so generous, huh?
23:24I guess it's myself, Betty.
23:26I used to hate it, and now I don't.
23:30So that makes things easier all around.
23:34Oh, I guess so.
23:35Good for you, Lady.
23:36And so, ladies and gentlemen, to the RAF room for the rest of the Royal Arts Festival.
23:47Come along inside the table.
23:48All right, we'll see you then.
24:00Yes, this little trolley does look a lot like you.
24:05Oh, everyone else is in the Royal Arts Festival room, and Lady Elaine is giving first prize to everybody.
24:14That's for sure.
24:15Bye for now.
24:16Bye for now.
24:25What was that?
24:26Oh, thank you.
24:32So, Lady Elaine is giving first prizes to everybody, probably because she's feeling so good about herself.
24:41I was just thinking, you and your family and your friends could have your own arts festival and include whatever you like to do, such as drawing, or painting, or dancing, or dressing up, or singing, or cooking.
25:02There are many ways of saying who you are and how you feel, ways that can be so helpful, ways that don't hurt yourself or anybody else.
25:17You know, that's how you can tell when you're grown up inside.
25:21You're sure that what you're planning and doing are things that can be a real help to you and your neighbor.
25:32Mm-hmm.
25:33I'm proud of you.
25:34I'm proud of you.
25:34You know that.
25:35I hope you do.
25:37I'm proud of you.
25:40I'm proud of you.
25:42I hope that you're as proud as I am.
25:46Proud of you.
25:48I'm proud of you.
25:51I hope that you are proud of you, too.
25:56I am.
25:57You might just make your own trolley drawing.
26:06It'll be different from all of these, but it'll be yours, and that's what's important about it.
26:14I like being your television neighbor.
26:16It's such a good feeling to know you're alive.
26:22It's such a happy feeling you're growing inside.
26:26And when you wake up ready to say, I think I'll make a snappy new day.
26:34It's such a good feeling, a very good feeling, the feeling you know that I'll be back when
26:45the week is new, and I'll have more ideas for you, and you'll have things you'll want to
26:55talk about.
26:56I will, too.
26:59Be back next time.
27:01Bye.
27:01Bye.
27:01Bye.
27:04For anyone who would like to know, here's the PBS Neighborhood Online Address.
27:34Bye.
28:04The people who give the money to make Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood
