03:16Mm-hmm
03:16I thought that the sticks
03:18Could fit in the pocket like that
03:19Oh I see
03:20Since there are three sticks
03:25There need to be three pockets
03:27There you go
03:29There it is
03:30Why don't you try it?

04:04Speedy delivery
04:05Speedy delivery to you Mr. McFeely
04:07Thanks very much
04:08You're welcome
04:09See you around the neighborhood
04:10Alright
04:10Goodbye
04:11Goodbye
04:11There's the seat
04:18Here's the easel
04:21And here's the pad of paper
04:28Can you imagine what I'm going to do?
04:33I'm going to draw
04:37I think I'll use crayons
04:39See the crayons I have
04:50Here's some small ones here
04:53And here's some larger ones
04:56Try these
05:01That's a good color
05:08That one's yellow
05:13That one's yellow
05:13Did you ever wonder how crayons were made?
05:29I've often thought about people making crayons
05:32I'll do some more of this later
05:34But I'd like to show you some people making crayons
05:37Let's come along
05:39I have a film of it here
05:41There's the railroad tank car
05:49Which carries the hot wax
05:51And from the tank
05:56It's poured into a kind of big kettle
06:00This is a kind of powder that makes the wax hard
06:08And then after that
06:14People put in the pigment
06:16Which is like colored flower
06:19This pigment is yellow
06:22So it's helping to make yellow crayons
06:25Now all of that hot wax
06:31And hardener
06:32And pigment
06:32Are mixed together
06:34And drained into a pouring bucket
06:36This is a mold
06:43For lots of crayons
06:45Each little hole
06:47Will be filled with the colored wax
06:49See how they pour that in
06:53It's kind of a double bucket
06:55And that colored wax
07:03Is going down into all those holes
07:05And a little later
07:11Each one of those holes
07:12Will show a crayon coming up
07:15The people wait for about five minutes
07:17For the yellow wax to get hard
07:19And then they scrape off the top
07:22Which they'll melt and use again
07:24Now watch the crayons
07:26Come into those crayon collectors
07:28There they are
07:32Look at all those yellow crayons
07:44Handfuls of yellow crayons
07:49Handfuls of yellow crayons
08:04Can you imagine what this machine is for?
08:24You know those things that go around crayons
08:34Those are labels
08:38Yes
08:38So this is a machine that puts labels on the crayons
08:42It's like a ferris wheel
08:53It's like a ferris wheel
08:53It's like a ferris wheel
08:53These crayons have lots of rides
09:06Then people take the crayons
09:22To a collating machine
09:23Where sixteen different colors of crayons
09:28Are put together
09:29Look at all those colors
09:33Beautiful
09:37And each one of them
09:47Is mixed into a little box
09:49So each one of those little boxes
10:00Has sixteen different color crayons in it
10:03More colors
10:25In more little boxes
10:27Make up big boxes of crayons
10:57Many little boxes
11:00Many little boxes are put together
11:02In one big box
11:05Then they're all put into the big shipping box
11:21And then people take those boxes
11:26And then people take those boxes to the stores
11:28Where other people come to buy them
11:30That's how they buy the crayons
11:33Now people make crayons
11:38You saw the yellow crayons being made
11:41Well, of course, they make all different colors
11:45And all different sizes
11:47And shapes
11:48Look at the ends of these
11:51Those are different shapes, you see
11:54And sizes
11:55I think I'll just
11:57Draw something here
11:59Would you like to draw with crayons?
12:06I do
12:07But I'm not very good at it
12:10But it doesn't matter
12:14It's just the fun of doing it
12:16That's important
12:16That's the way I usually draw a house
12:20Have some windows
12:24Have a window down here
12:30Somebody to look for their mom or dad
12:33Coming home from work
12:35And a tree
12:39There's a tree
12:48What about a person over here?
12:51Some hair
13:03Maybe I should use some
13:08Different colors
13:10Now, I wouldn't have made that
13:20And if I'd just been thinking about it
13:22Just pretending about it
13:24It wouldn't be there
13:25You can make believe it happens
13:28Or pretend that something's true
13:30You can wish or hope or contemplate
13:34A thing you'd like to do
13:36But until you start to do it
13:39You will never see it through
13:42Cause the make believe pretending
13:45Just won't do it for you
13:48You've got to do it
13:52Every little bit
13:55You've got to do it
13:57Do it, do it, do it
13:59And when you're through
14:00You can know who did it
14:05Cause you did it
14:06You did it
14:08You did it
14:10That's right
14:12And it feels good to do things
14:14No matter how anybody says it is
14:19Feels good to have made something
14:23Also feels good to make believe
14:26So let's do some of that now too
14:28Make believe is just thinking
14:35Making up things
14:37So let's make believe
14:40That King Friday
14:41Is going to have a drawing contest
14:45That'd be fun, don't you think?
14:48Everybody can draw something
14:50And then send it to King Friday
14:52And he can be the judge
14:53And I imagine he'll have some kind of a surprise
14:57Well, he could be telling Miss Polificate about it
15:01As the trolley goes to the neighborhood of make believe
15:04Alright, trolley
15:05Neighborhood of make believe
15:07And of course the trolley could be of help too
15:17Don't you think that's an excellent idea
15:20That we've been talking about, Miss Polificate?
15:23Oh, I do, King Friday
15:24Because almost everybody can make some kind of drawing
15:27Even the school children, don't you think?
15:30Oh, of course
15:31Oh, almost all children love to use their crayons and paper
15:35To make all sorts of pictures
15:37But I think the pictures for the contest
15:39Should all be drawings of this neighborhood
15:43Well, but you can be sure
15:45That every one of them will be different
15:47It will be a difficult contest to judge
15:50But first of all, I want you to call the teacher
15:53Harriet Elizabeth Cowell
15:54And ask her to come here right away
15:57I wish to discuss this with her
15:58Oh, of course, Your Majesty
16:00Yes
16:00Yeah, hello
16:08This is the school at someplace else
16:11Hello, Miss Cowell
16:12Yes
16:12This is Miss Polificate at the castle
16:14Oh, dear, how are you, dear?
16:17Oh, just fine
16:18Good
16:19I'm calling for King Friday
16:21Well, is everything all right?
16:22Oh, just fine
16:23Good, good
16:24Well, just hold on just a second
16:25Prince Tuesday
16:27Everything's fine
16:29It's your house
16:29In fact, you kids can go on with your reading
16:32And I'll be with you in a minute
16:33Now then, what can I help you with, dear?
16:37Oh, King Friday would like you to come over to the castle right away
16:40He has a wonderful idea
16:42Oh, I couldn't come right now
16:44She says she can't come right now
16:47Why not?
16:48Why not, Harriet?
16:49Well, because I'm teaching and I don't have a teacher's helper
16:52She's teaching and she doesn't have a teacher's helper
16:56Well, couldn't you be the teacher's helper?
16:59Well, I could ask
17:00Good
17:01Uh, Harry, could I be the teacher's helper?
17:04Well, of course, dear
17:05Come right over
17:06You can teach about telephones
17:08Oh, I'll be right over
17:10Good
17:11Sometimes I like to talk on the telephone
17:14So do I
17:16Oh, I do, too
17:17But not for very long
17:19Mm-hmm
17:20Now, students
17:22That was Miss Polificat
17:25And she's coming over to tell you about telephones
17:28While I go see what the king wants
17:29Does Daddy have another big idea?
17:32I guess so
17:33I'll bet it'll be fun
17:34Sometimes grown-ups have fun ideas
17:37And sometimes they don't
17:39That's right
17:40But that's the same with everybody
17:42I guess so
17:43Hi, everyone
17:43Oh, hi, Miss Polificat
17:44Oh, Miss Polificat
17:45I really appreciate your help
17:47And I'll be back as soon as I possibly can
17:49Fine
17:49Okay, then
17:50Goodbye, Miss Polificat
17:51Bye
17:51Bye
17:52Now, friends
17:54I think the very best thing I can tell you about the telephone
17:57Is that when it rings and you pick it up
17:59There's someone on the other end to talk with
18:02Do you know what I mean?
18:03Yeah
18:03Oh, I just love the telephone
18:05Now, I think the very best way
18:07A wonderful idea
18:12A perfectly wonderful idea
18:15Oh, Miss Cow, I presume?
18:20Correct as usual, King Friday
18:22I shall be brief
18:23For I know you have your class, Miss Cow
18:25I'm anxious to hear what you have in mind, sir
18:27I should like to start a drawing contest
18:31A drawing contest?
18:33Yes
18:33Do you like the idea?
18:35Well, not usually, King Friday
18:37What do you mean?
18:39Well, because everyone has different talents
18:41And everyone's drawings are different
18:43So?
18:44So, art contests are impossible to judge
18:47I will be the judge
18:49I will even build a judging stand
18:52Right over there
18:53Oh, right
18:54So long as everyone knows that, you know
18:56They will
18:57And everyone will be able to enjoy the prize
19:00Oh, that's an excellent idea
19:02What is the prize?
19:04It will be a surprise prize
19:07Surprise
19:08Surprise prize?
19:10Surprise prize?
19:11How loyal
19:13Royal
19:13Yes, well, you may tell your students
19:16Well, I shall
19:18And thank you, Your Majesty
19:20Thank you
19:21Oh, incidentally, King Friday
19:22Yes, Miss Cow
19:24What do you want the people to draw?
19:26This neighborhood of make-believe
19:29Oh, well, that should be fun
19:31I expect it to be a very royal contest
19:35Of course, Your Majesty
19:36Farewell, Teacher Cow
19:38Farewell, King Friday
19:40Farewell
19:40So, if somebody calls
19:43And it's the wrong number
19:44You say you're sorry?
19:46That's right, Daniel
19:47But why do you say you're sorry
19:49If it's not your fault?
19:52Oh, you know, I really don't know
19:54Does anyone have an idea?
19:56Maybe you're sorry for yourself
19:58Because you had to answer the phone
20:00And you were playing
20:01Or maybe you are wishing
20:03That somebody special would call
20:06And then it wasn't your friend after all
20:08Could be
20:09You know, I really like you kids
20:11I think I've learned a lot more from you
20:13Than you've learned from me
20:14Oh, we've had a good time
20:15Oh, hi, Miss Cow
20:16Listen, listen
20:17Well, it's interesting news, everybody
20:19What?
20:20King Friday wants to have a contest
20:22And everyone's to draw
20:23The neighborhood of make-believe
20:25Oh, that'll be fun
20:27Yeah
20:27Did he say what the prize is going to be?
20:30Well, he said it would be a surprise prize
20:32I wonder if he'll give away the plane car
20:35I'd like that as a prize
20:37Oh, yes
20:38Well, let's everybody think all the different ways
20:40Of drawing the neighborhood of make-believe, shall we?
20:42Oh, good
20:43You know, Harry, you're a wonderful class
20:44And I've had the best time
20:46Oh, thank you
20:46Uh, what?
20:51Hey
20:52What's going on here, Toots?
20:54Oh, a new contest
20:55Uh, what's the prize?
20:57Well, the king hasn't told anybody yet
21:00Well, I'd better win
21:01Do you always have to win everything, Lady Elaine?
21:05Of course
21:06Now, what do we have to do?
21:08Oh, see the signs back there?
21:10Draw the neighborhood contest
21:12That's what you have to do
21:13Make a drawing of this neighborhood
21:14That's all?
21:15That's it
21:16Huh
21:16Well, I'm gonna win
21:17So that's that
21:19Uh, Lady Elaine?
21:20Yeah?
21:22Did you ever have any brothers or sisters?
21:25Sure
21:26I had a sister, Barbara
21:27Why?
21:28What did you think of her?
21:30Oh, she was always winning everything
21:31She was a drag
21:32Couldn't you win when she was around?
21:35No
21:36She had a corner on everything
21:37But when I grew up
21:39I started doing the winning
21:42But there was a time
21:44When you knew how it felt
21:45Not to win
21:46I'll say
21:47I hated losing all the time
21:50I just hated it
21:51And I still hate it when I lose
21:54And I'm not about to lose
21:56And anyway
21:57People like you better if you win
21:59Who told you that?
22:01I told myself
22:03I'm going to win this prize
22:06And I'm going to take it to my museum
22:08And not show it to anybody
22:10What did you say the prize was?
22:12Well, the king calls it a surprise prize
22:15That's all I know
22:17He might as well hand it over to me right away
22:19Because I am winning
22:21Oh, those children in the school have such great ideas
22:24Are they drawing the neighborhood too?
22:27Well, sure
22:27I guess everyone is
22:29Oh, it should be great fun to see all the different ones
22:31Don't you think?
22:32Yes, so long as I win
22:35You know that
22:38Trolley
22:38Make a drawing of the neighborhood
22:40Oh, don't bother, Trolley
22:42Yours truly's got it in the bag
22:45Lady Elaine's just heard about the contest
22:57And all she's thinking about is winning
22:59Not doing
23:01But winning
23:03It should be the fun of doing it that's important
23:07You could draw your own neighborhood
23:11Or your own neighborhood of make-believe
23:14I think I'll try drawing mine
23:15Neighborhood of make-believe
23:21You can do it with just colors too if you want to
23:24That could be the color for the castle
23:28It's a big place
23:30With a trolley track like that
23:32And
23:35That could be Corny's factory there
23:39And
23:44The tree
23:45Ex and Henrietta's tree
23:47And
23:53Lady Elaine's museum go-round
23:55All those
23:58Pillars
24:01Platypus mound
24:06Daniel's clock
24:14In fact, you could just play with colors
24:17Mix them up
24:19See what they look like together
24:23You ever do that?
24:26What would you put in your drawing?
24:39The best thing is that each person's would be different
24:41You are my friend
24:44You are special
24:45You are my friend
24:47You are special to me
24:50You are the only one like you
24:53Like you, my friend
24:55I like you
24:57In the daytime
24:59In the nighttime
25:01Anytime that you feel's the right time
25:05For a friendship with me, you see
25:09F-R-I-E-N-D
25:12Special
25:12You are my friend
25:15You're special to me
25:18There's only one
25:20In this wonderful world
25:23You
25:24Are
25:26Special
25:27And that's true
25:29You're the only person who is exactly like you
25:32So in a way
25:34You've already won
25:36In this world
25:37Because you're the only one who can be you
25:41The things you do
25:43Are always a little bit different
25:45From anybody else
25:46And that's the way it's supposed to be
25:49You are special
25:54I may do some more drawing myself this evening
26:07I hope you'll try
26:10Draw whatever you like
26:13And show it to the people you love
26:15And ask them if they like to draw too
26:19Sometimes other people will surprise you with things you never knew they could do
26:26It's such a good feeling
26:31To know you're alive
26:33It's such a happy feeling
26:35You're growing inside
26:37And when you wake up
26:39Ready to say
26:41I think I'll make a snappy new day
26:45It's such a good feeling
26:49A very good feeling
26:51The feeling you know
26:53That I'll be back
26:55When the day is new
26:57And I'll have more ideas for you
27:02And you'll have things you'll want to talk about
27:07I will too
