00:58She was born in a dirty old town
01:12A little dark rose you couldn't pin down
01:17From the mountains of Moor to the raglan road
01:20They all knew a name though they hadn't been told
01:24Oh, she shared with the angels the spirit of life
01:32Oh, and the people will follow her all day and night
01:40She was sweet, sweet, sweet, upon the fiddler's green
01:42We're in a dancing shoe, she danced with them all the fruits
01:44And took the brazen wood beyond the pale and the gloom
01:47She was igniting dreams of freedom
01:48Used to sing song out right in the middle of the private thing
01:51And give her to wait before the dawning of the day
01:52Breaking all of these years by making notions that her tears of people knew
01:55She will lead them to freedom
01:57She tamed a wild rover despite his fights
02:17After three, four, five, six, seven drunken nights
02:21To be a nation once
02:23To be a nation once again
02:24And then she said
02:25Drums her defenses now dance until the devil's dead
02:29Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
02:33She shared with the angels the spirit of life
02:37Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
02:41And the people will follow her all day and night
02:45She was sweet, sweet, sweet, upon the fiddler's green
02:48We're in a dancing shoe
02:49She led to the rhythm of the bosom to the brazen wood
02:51Beyond the pale and the gloom
02:52She was igniting dreams of freedom
02:53Used to sing song out right in the middle of the crowd
02:56But then they give her to wait before the dawning of the day
02:58Breaking all of these years by making notions that her tears
03:00So people knew she will lead them to freedom
03:02Free from desire
03:19Mind and senses purify
03:21Free from desire
03:23Mind and senses purify
03:25Free from desire
03:27Mind and senses purify
03:29Free from desire
03:31Non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non-non
04:01Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh
04:19Don't leave me, don't, don't, don't
04:22Three, don't, two, three, don't
04:31Thank you very much.
05:01I'm going to play a role in the traditional music,
05:04and I'm going to play a role in electronic music,
05:06and pop, and the other one, the one that's going on.
05:09But that's the new one,
05:11and the one that's going on is freedom.
05:13Well, I'm going to play a role in the next one
05:16in the game, in the play of this music,
05:19with Growery's.
05:31set the business up in uh 99 years ago and developed it first as a hardware and general store
05:39John's son John Joe and his wife Bairdry developed a hospitality business during the 40s and 50s
05:46there would have been a lot of sing songs and uh Kayleys and all of that so there was a musical
05:52presence my cousins Neil John and Ann then had the imagination to establish a purpose-built
05:59music venue in the early 90s
06:06would it be fair to say then that McGrory's has put in a show on the map musically i think it
06:12attracted a caliber of musicians um over the years and continues to do we're the most northerly hotel
06:19in the country we're the most northerly purposeful venue so that gives it an atmosphere and i think
06:24people enjoy that makes it really special but yes being so isolated must bring challenges as well
06:29and i know there's been a lot of difficulties for for venues in ireland all around ireland the last few
06:36years how did you get through all that we stayed the course i think and we were determined to stay
06:40the course obviously the troubles had an impact in terms of that isolation and then things like
06:45brexit uncertainties have a consequence you know you need to be quite resilient to get through all
06:50of that up here you must rely a lot on your local community then and their loyalty as well to the
06:56place very much so i mean people like to socialize people love music i'd see it as a mutual support
07:03system you know i think it's good that McGrory's continues to be what it is you know a kind of
07:10multi-dimensional music hospitality um and then we're very lucky to find ourselves in such an amazing
07:15place yeah it's beautiful john i believe in terms of music this place has seen it all can you tell
07:22me a little bit about the people who've played here over the years oh we've been lucky to have brilliant
07:27performers like alton damien dempsey mary black paul brady the four of us and also then from overseas
07:33we've had you know legends like john martin uh tans van zandt cassandra wilson view farcaturei
07:40femi cootie uh so quite a panoply of amazing people and many return bookings as well people
07:46love to come back again it's a special place and i think the welcome they get is very genuine it's very
07:52danigol um and and i think people respond to the uniqueness of of the environment and the uniqueness
07:57of of of of the place itself
08:11so
08:27so
08:39so
