00:00This shows people worldwide, which is what I was hoping the whole time, that this cannot and will
00:06not stand. Rose McGowan is suing Harvey Weinstein over what's cited as a diabolical effort to
00:11silence sexual assault victims. The actress sued Weinstein with her lawyers and a private
00:16intelligence agency, Black Cube, in California federal court on Wednesday. McGowan's claims
00:21against Weinstein include racketeering, violations of the federal wiretap act,
00:25invasion of privacy, fraud and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
00:30The opening sentence of the complaint reads,
00:32This case is about a diabolical and illegal effort by one of America's most powerful men
00:37and his representatives to silence sexual assault victims. And it's about the courageous
00:41women and journalists who persisted to reveal the truth.
00:44She further alleges in the complaint that when Weinstein learned that she planned to
00:48describe an alleged 1997 rape, his team tried to steal her unpublished book, attempted to buy
00:54her silence and when she refused, began a campaign to undermine her reputation so no one
00:59would believe her, including she claims planting drugs on her. However, Weinstein's
01:03lawyer Phyllis Kuferstein sent The Hollywood Reporter a statement in response to the
01:07complaint, which reads in part,
01:09Once and for all, Rose McGowan will be shown to be what she is, a publicity seeker looking for money.
01:14From the moment she sought a multi-million-dollar payout in return for not making these baseless
01:19allegations, which we rejected, we knew that she was waiting for an opportune time to begin this.
