00:00Harvey Weinstein has been given his guilty sentence.
00:04Issued by Supreme Court Judge James Burke on Wednesday morning, the disgraced movie
00:08mogul was sentenced to 23 years in a New York State prison.
00:12Specifically for his conviction on the first-degree count of criminal sexual act,
00:16Weinstein was given 20 years in prison plus five years of supervised release.
00:20On the other convicted charge, third-degree rape, he was given three years in prison.
00:25Weinstein was convicted on February 24 based on the emotional testimony of two
00:29primary victims. Weinstein's attorney, Donna Rattuno, called the sentencing obscene in a
00:34press conference outside the courthouse, saying in part,
00:37"...that number was obnoxious. There are murderers who will get out of court faster
00:41than Harvey Weinstein will. That number spoke to the pressure of movements in the public.
00:46That number did not speak to the evidence that came out in trial."
00:49Before his sentence was issued, Rattuno told the judge that Weinstein should get a shorter
00:53sentence citing his long list of illnesses.
00:56"...Mr. Weinstein has a multitude of medical issues. There are lists of things that are
00:59physically wrong with him and are serious. Mr. Weinstein has a history of heart disease
01:04in his family. This is a situation that the loss of freedom will affect his ability to get
01:08the type of medical care he will need for the list of issues he's dealing with."
01:12Rattuno added that Weinstein's team will likely file an appeal, which she previewed in July.
01:16Judge Burke also informed Weinstein that he will be formally registered as a sex offender.
01:21Outside the courthouse, attorney Gloria Allred, who represents several of Weinstein's
01:25accusers, held up a sign that read,
01:27"...this is what justice looks like. 20 plus 3 years."
01:30In response to the sentencing, Tina Chen, president and CEO of the Time's Up Foundation,
01:35issued the following statement, which reads in part,
01:38"...we remain in solidarity with the more than 100 survivors who suffered abuse,
01:42harassment and rape at the hands of Harvey Weinstein.
01:45The trauma of sexual assault and harassment is lifelong.
01:48We can only hope that today's sentence brings all of the survivors of Harvey Weinstein
01:52some measure of peace."
01:54Meanwhile, the silence breakers, a group of 24 Weinstein accusers that includes Ashley Judd,
01:59Lauren Sivan, Rosanna Arquette and Rose McGowan, said in their statement,
02:03"...Harvey Weinstein's legacy will always be that he's a convicted rapist.
02:07He is going to jail, but no amount of jail time will repair the lives he ruined,
02:11the careers he destroyed or the damage he has caused."
02:14The sentencing ends Weinstein's New York trial, which began on January 6th.
02:18However, he still faces four charges in Los Angeles County.
