00:00How does it feel to be here at the Golden Globes for the first time?
00:02It feels amazing. We're starting off the year.
00:04Excitement everywhere.
00:06Listen, I really love a lot of the stuff that's been coming out.
00:08I love a lot of people here, so I'm excited.
00:10What's one movie you saw this year that you especially loved?
00:13Ooh, well, last year, I'm guessing.
00:16I know a lot of people are going to give this answer, but I have to give this answer.
00:19Barbie.
00:20Like, for me, Barbie was so much more than a movie.
00:22It was like a moment.
00:23It was just so validating for so many reasons.
00:25I was just like women.
00:26First of all, women.
00:27Second of all, women.
00:28Third of all, women.
00:28And I was really proud that finally we really had a moment for women to be like,
00:32now can't we tour the spot where we're like,
00:34it doesn't matter what records are being broken.
00:36It doesn't matter.
00:36It's just the norm.
00:38This is, I feel like, going to get us there.
00:402023 was the year of the Barbie movie and such an amazing year for women and entertainment.
00:45How do we bring that energy into 2024?
00:48Listen, I think, I'm going to have to get real, real here.
00:51It's easy to talk a lot about representation.
00:53It's easy to talk about how we want to see different people on screen.
00:56It's another thing to actually execute against it.
00:57There's so many studies that have come out talking about what it actually looks like to have representation,
01:02and we're not executing that completely.
01:03So I think there needs to be more Barbies.
01:05It can't be the exception, the thing that broke the record.
01:07Like, I want to see 10 more movies like that, that have women at the forefront,
01:11have a women director, have complex female characters.
01:14Like, let's walk the walk.
01:15Let's not just talk the talk.
01:16When you're picking projects, do you keep that at front of mind?
01:20I do, and I won't lie.
01:21It's for a gang of reasons.
01:23Sometimes it's hard.
01:24This person doesn't have experience, you know.
01:26This person doesn't get signed off by the network or by what.
01:29I think we just need to keep fighting that fight.
01:32Like, it is not the easiest thing to do because the system was not designed for representation, to be honest.
01:37It's going to be hard work to break that system down, but it's hard work that we need to do.
01:40So in my projects, I definitely do, and it's not always easy.
