At The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, Retta tells THR on the red carpet about the women who inspire her, why she hasn’t seen ‘Barbie’, and more.

00:00How does it feel to be here this morning honoring powerful women?
00:03It's early, but it's lovely.
00:06It is early.
00:08I'm very impressed by women who are red carpet ready at this hour.
00:15What time did you have to get up to get red carpet ready?
00:18My alarm was set for 6 and I stayed in bed until 6.30.
00:23I mean, yeah, it's early, but we're here. We're having a breakfast.
00:26We are here. We made it.
00:30Who are some women in entertainment that inspire you?
00:33Oh, gosh. Shonda Rhimes.
00:37My good friend, America Ferreira.
00:40I love women who keep moving.
00:45I feel like I get so exhausted and I am amazed by people who power through.
00:53And anyone who's able to stay focused, because I think I might be a little ADD,
01:00I'm impressed.
01:02It's been a huge year for women in entertainment, from Barbie to Beyonce.
01:07What's your take on the way that women have just dominated the industry this year?
01:10I kind of feel like it's nothing new.
01:16It's just we finally decided to put some focus on it, you know?
01:22And with the explosion of social media and then people having followers and people seeing
01:28how many followers these women have, they realize the impact.
01:34And they realize, oh, there's money to be made in films about women and films with women.
01:39So I just feel like they finally noticed.
01:45Speaking of films about women and with women, what's one female-led TV show or movie that you love?
01:50You know what I'm liking right now?
01:55My friend, Shenola Hampton, is in Found.
01:58So I've been enjoying that.
02:01And then movies.
02:02I haven't seen a movie in so long.
02:07I don't know.
02:07I mean, there's Barbie.
02:09There's so many.
02:09I haven't seen Barbie yet.
02:11I haven't seen Barbie yet.
02:11You need to.
02:12Yeah, I want to.
02:13And I'm going to.
02:14But I want to see it in the theater.
02:16And I've been so afraid of getting sick.
02:17So I haven't gone out.
