A local police officer is among three T&T nationals arrested by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.

They have been charged in New York for firearms and cocaine related offences.

00:00According to the United States Embassy, an operation conducted by its personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration DEA Vetted Unit,
00:09assisted by the TNT Police Service Special Investigations Unit and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit,
00:15led to the arrests of three TNT nationals.
00:18Provisional arrest warrants were successfully executed on Raphael Joseph, Michael McSween and Clevon Passade.
00:26The embassy points out that Joseph is an active-duty police officer serving in the TTPS.
00:32The three men have been charged in the Eastern District of New York for conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States and firearms offenses.
00:42The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the DEA in 2024, which was supported by the DEA New York Field Division.
00:50Commenting on the arrests, U.S. Embassy Charged Affairs Dr. Jennifer Nidhar Diotis says,
00:56This was a great example of bilateral cooperation between our two countries and a significant blow to not only drug and firearms trafficking,
01:05but also against public corruption with the arrest of the police officer.
01:09The outstanding cooperation between the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Vetted Unit and SIU and TOQU
01:16shows the multiplier power of agencies of both our great countries working together.
01:22Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Alyssa Guevara calls the joint operation a reflection of strength of the TTPS's international partnerships
01:31and a commitment to accountability at every level of the police service.
01:36Guevara says,
01:37I can confirm that close collaboration with the United States law enforcement authorities
01:42has resulted in the successful arrest of a TTPS member who is now awaiting deportation.
01:49The TTPS remains resolute in upholding the highest standards of integrity,
01:54and we will continue to work with our global counterparts
01:57to ensure that anyone who betrays the public trust is brought to justice.
