More ambulances for Tobago. This from Health Secretary Dr Faith Brebnor as she spoke on a Tobago morning show on Monday.

This comes as the Division of Health announced last Saturday that several ambulances will undergo routine inspections, to ensure no breakdowns during the upcoming holiday season and Tobago's October Carnival. More from Elizabeth Williams.

00:00I am happy to state, though, that the supplier of the ambulances has indicated that we would be getting a couple more soon.
00:07We are not going to get them all because we still need about eight more.
00:11We are not going to get all of them at the same time because, you know, if you get all at the same time,
00:15it means they are going to all come to the end of their life at the same time,
00:19which is what happened with the last set, which we do not want.
00:23So we should be getting an additional two sometime soon, and then we will get some further along the year as we go along.
00:30Dr. Brabner said some ambulances remain in rotation while others are taken to complete their inspections without disrupting emergency services.
00:40She said ensuring the reliability of the emergency fleet is paramount during high demand periods.
00:47We still have the least ambulances that we've been using, so those are still on the road.
00:52And we have the new ambulances that we have.
00:54So we actually have three different kinds of ambulances in route right now.
00:59The old ones that, you know, we still tinker, tinker to make sure that they are there, the least ones and the new ones.
01:06So we do not think that it would affect the way we are able to provide service.
01:11We just need to make sure that we do that to prevent them from going down and prevent the fleet that we have from becoming too small again.
01:19She was also asked about Director of Social Protection Hanif Benjamin, who recently appeared in court on sex charges.
01:27We have taken this situation seriously.
01:30We are doing everything that we can do to ensure that we follow the steps that need to be followed in terms of all of the processes.
01:37And as I said to another media house recently, when we are able to make an announcement, a further announcement about that, we would make a further announcement about that.
01:47We do not want a situation where I speak out of turn and that causes the processes to not happen the way they should be.
01:56But just know that we are doing everything that we can do to ensure that all of our stakeholders are taken care of, to ensure that all of our stakeholders are protected.
02:06And me not speaking is not necessarily because we are not doing anything.
02:10Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
