In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:18
The Lord be with you, and with your spirit.
00:21
Dear brothers and sisters, today in many churches throughout the world,
00:25
we mark what we call annually Red Wednesday, which is a day for us to pray.
00:31
We are being invited to pray for persecuted Christians throughout the whole world.
00:36
And so I'm offering this votive mass of the Holy Martyrs,
00:40
to as the intercession of our brothers and sisters who are already in heaven,
00:45
who are there as a result of being killed for the faith,
00:49
that they may pray for us and for all the Christians of the world,
00:52
especially those who are being persecuted because of their practice of the Christian faith.
00:59
I'm also offering this mass for you and your intentions.
01:02
Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins,
01:05
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:10
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord, have mercy.
01:15
You came to call sinners. Christ, have mercy.
01:17
You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us.
01:23
Lord, have mercy.
01:25
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
01:29
and bring us to everlasting life.
01:32
Let us pray.
01:35
May the sight of the great number of your holy martyrs gladden us, O Lord,
01:40
making our faith stronger,
01:43
and bringing us consolation by the prayers of them all.
01:46
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
01:49
who lives and reigns with you,
01:51
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
01:53
God, forever and ever. Amen.
02:00
A reading from the second book of Maccabees.
02:04
There were seven brothers who were arrested with their mother.
02:08
The king tried to force them to taste pig's flesh,
02:11
which the law forbids,
02:13
by torturing them with whips and scourges.
02:17
The mother was especially admirable and worthy of honour.
02:23
Sorry, of honourable remembrance.
02:26
For she watched the death of seven sons in the course of a single day,
02:30
and endured it resolutely because of her hopes in the Lord.
02:35
Indeed, she encouraged each of them in the language of their ancestors.
02:39
Filled with noble conviction,
02:42
she reinforced her womanly argument with manly courage,
02:46
saying to them,
02:48
I do not know how you appeared in my womb.
02:51
It was not I who endowed you with breath and life.
02:54
I had not the shaping of your every part.
02:57
It is the creator of the world,
03:00
ordaining the process of man's breath,
03:02
and presiding over the origin of all things,
03:04
who in his mercy will most surely give you back both breath and life,
03:10
saying that you now despise your own existence for the sake of his laws.
03:16
Antiochus thought he was being ridiculed,
03:19
suspecting insult in the tone of her voice,
03:21
and as the youngest was still alive,
03:24
he appealed to him not with mere words,
03:27
but with promises on oath
03:28
to make him both rich and happy
03:31
if he would abandon the traditions of his ancestors.
03:35
He would make him his friend and entrust him in public office.
03:39
The young man took no notice at all,
03:42
and so the king then appealed to the mother,
03:45
urging her to advise the youth to save his life.
03:48
After a great deal of urging on his part,
03:51
she agreed to try persuasion on her son.
03:53
Bending over him,
03:55
she fooled the cruel tyrant with these words
03:58
uttered in the language of the ancestors.
04:01
My son, have pity on me.
04:04
I carried you nine months in my womb
04:06
and suckled you three years,
04:08
fed you and reared you
04:10
to the age you are now
04:11
and cherished you.
04:13
I implore you, my child,
04:15
observe heaven and earth,
04:18
consider all that is in them,
04:20
and acknowledge that God made them out
04:23
of what did not exist,
04:25
and that mankind comes into being in the same way.
04:29
Do not fear this executioner,
04:32
but prove yourself worthy of your brothers
04:34
and make death welcome,
04:37
so that in the day of mercy
04:38
I may receive you back in your brother's company.
04:42
She had scarcely ended when the young man said,
04:45
What are you all waiting for?
04:47
I will not comply with the king's ordinance.
04:50
I obey the ordinance of the law
04:52
given to our ancestors through Moses.
04:55
As for you, sir,
04:57
who have contrived every kind of evil
04:59
against the Hebrews,
05:01
you will certainly not escape the hands of God.
05:04
Lord, when your glory appears,
05:17
my joy will be full.
05:20
Lord, hear a cause that is just,
05:22
pay heed to my cry.
05:24
Turn your ear to my prayer,
05:26
no deceit is on my lips.
05:28
Lord, when your glory appears,
05:30
my joy will be full.
05:33
I kept my feet firmly in your paths.
05:36
There was no faltering in my steps.
05:39
I am here, and I call.
05:41
You will hear me, O God.
05:43
Turn your ear to me.
05:45
Hear my words.
05:47
Lord, when your glory appears,
05:49
my joy will be full.
05:51
Guard me as the apple of your eye.
05:54
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
05:57
Ask for me in my justice,
05:59
I shall see your face,
06:00
and be filled when I awake
06:02
with the sight of your glory.
06:05
Lord, when your glory appears,
06:07
my joy will be full.
06:13
Alleluia, alleluia!
06:14
I have chosen you from the world,
06:16
says the Lord,
06:17
to go and bear fruit that will last.
06:19
Alleluia!
06:20
The Lord be with you.
06:26
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
06:32
While the people were listening,
06:34
Jesus went on to tell a parable,
06:36
because he was near Jerusalem,
06:39
and they imagined that the kingdom of God
06:41
was going to show itself then and there.
06:44
Accordingly, he said,
06:46
a man of noble birth
06:47
went to a distant country
06:49
to be appointed king
06:50
and afterwards returned.
06:53
He summoned ten of his servants
06:55
and gave them ten pounds.
06:58
Do business with these,
07:00
he told them,
07:01
until I get back.
07:04
But his compatriots detested him
07:07
and sent a delegation
07:08
to follow him with this message,
07:10
We do not want this man
07:12
to be our king.
07:15
Now on his return,
07:16
having received his appointment as king,
07:19
he sent for those servants
07:20
to whom he had given the money
07:22
to find out what profit each had made.
07:26
The first came in and said,
07:27
Sir, your one pound has brought in ten.
07:31
Well done, my good servant,
07:33
he replied.
07:34
Since you have proved yourself faithful
07:37
in a very small thing,
07:38
you shall have the government
07:40
of ten cities.
07:42
Then came the second and said,
07:45
Sir, your one pound has made five.
07:49
To this one also he said,
07:51
and you shall be in charge of five cities.
07:54
Next came the other and said,
07:56
Sir, here is your pound.
08:00
I put it away safely in a piece of linen
08:03
because I was afraid of you.
08:05
For you are an exacting man.
08:09
You pick up what you have not put down
08:11
and reap what you have not sown.
08:14
You wicked servant,
08:16
he said,
08:16
out of your own mouth I condemn you.
08:19
So you knew I was an exacting man,
08:21
picking up what I have not put down
08:23
and reaping what I have not sown.
08:26
Then why did you not put my money in the bank?
08:30
On my return I could have drawn it out with interest.
08:35
And he said to those standing by,
08:37
Take the pound from him
08:38
and give it to the man who has ten pounds.
08:41
And I said to him,
08:43
But sir,
08:44
he has ten pounds.
08:48
I tell you,
08:49
to everyone who has will be given more,
08:53
but from the man who has not,
08:55
even what he has will be taken away.
08:58
But as for my enemies who did not want me for their king,
09:03
bring them here
09:04
and execute them in my presence.
09:08
When he had said this,
09:10
he went on going up to Jerusalem.
09:15
The Gospel of the Lord
09:17
he goes on to Jerusalem.
09:18
The Gospel of the Lord
09:35
the God university
09:38
is Since God's nascent.
09:40
Yeah.
09:42
Gregg.
09:43
Let's go.
10:13
Great brothers and sisters of my sacrifice,
10:43
and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
10:47
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name,
10:52
for our good and the good of all his holy church.
10:55
Receive, we pray, O Lord, the offerings of your people in honor of the passion of your holy martyrs,
11:02
and may the gifts that gave your holy martyrs courage under persecution
11:06
make us all true, steadfast in all trials. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
11:13
The Lord be with you, and with your spirit lift up your hearts.
11:17
We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
11:21
It is right and just.
11:23
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks.
11:31
Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God.
11:34
For you are glorified when your saints are praised.
11:38
Their very sufferings are but wonders of your might.
11:42
In your mercy you give ardor to their faith.
11:45
To their endurance you can firm resolve.
11:47
And in their struggle the victory is yours through Christ our Lord.
11:52
Therefore, all creatures of heaven and earth, sing a new song in adoration.
11:57
And we, with all the hosts of angels, cry out, and without end we acclaim.
12:03
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts,
12:07
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
12:10
Hosanna in the highest.
12:12
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
12:15
Hosanna in the highest.
12:17
You are indeed holy, O Lord, a fount of all holiness.
12:24
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the twofold,
12:30
so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
12:36
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread.
12:41
And giving thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying,
12:45
Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
13:15
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice.
13:23
And once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
13:27
Take this, all of you, and drink from it.
13:29
For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new, and eternal covenant,
13:36
which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins.
13:41
Do this in memory of me.
13:59
The mystery of faith.
14:12
Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
14:18
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
14:22
we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
14:26
giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
14:32
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
14:36
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
14:39
Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world,
14:42
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
14:44
together with Leo, our Pope, and Charles, our Bishop, and all the clergy.
14:48
Remember, your servant Francis, whom you have called from this world to yourself,
14:54
grant that he who was united with your son in a death like his
14:57
may also be one with him in his resurrection.
15:02
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
15:07
and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
15:12
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
15:15
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
15:17
with Blessed Joseph, her spouse,
15:20
with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
15:25
we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life,
15:28
and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
15:32
Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
15:41
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
15:43
all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
15:50
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
15:54
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
15:59
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
16:03
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
16:08
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
16:11
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
16:16
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously.
16:20
Grant peace in our days,
16:22
that by the help of your mercy,
16:24
we may be always free from sin
16:26
and safe from all distress,
16:28
as we await the blessed hope
16:29
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
16:32
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
16:35
now and forever, Lord Jesus Christ,
16:38
who said to your apostles,
16:39
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
16:42
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church.
16:45
And graciously grant her peace and unity
16:48
in accordance with your will,
16:49
who live and reign forever and ever.
16:52
Amen.
16:53
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
16:57
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
16:59
Peace be with you.
17:10
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
17:13
Have mercy on us.
17:14
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
17:18
Have mercy on us.
17:20
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
17:22
Grant us peace.
17:23
Lord, let me take away the sins of the honored y telling of all that amen
17:32
in the midst of theiedo.
17:33
And we'll be taking the sins of the holy body.
17:33
Thank you so much.
17:34
And we'll be relaxing for this.
17:36
Amen.
17:37
Beiant.
17:38

Amen.
17:52
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
18:08
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
18:11
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
18:19
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
18:25
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
18:30
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, commonly, spiritually into my heart,
18:35
I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you.
18:41
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
18:47
Let us pray.
18:49
Preserve in us your gift, O Lord, and may what we have received at your hands
18:56
for the commemoration of all your blessed martyrs bring us salvation and peace.
19:02
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
19:06
Friends, thank you for your prayerful company today as we celebrate Red Wednesday,
19:11
even during this online Mass.
19:13
Let's continue to pray for each other and for each other's intentions.
19:17
The Lord be with you.
19:19
May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
19:24
Amen.
19:25
Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
