Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:18The Lord be with you, and with your spirit.
00:21Dear brothers and sisters, today in many churches throughout the world,
00:25we mark what we call annually Red Wednesday, which is a day for us to pray.
00:31We are being invited to pray for persecuted Christians throughout the whole world.
00:36And so I'm offering this votive mass of the Holy Martyrs,
00:40to as the intercession of our brothers and sisters who are already in heaven,
00:45who are there as a result of being killed for the faith,
00:49that they may pray for us and for all the Christians of the world,
00:52especially those who are being persecuted because of their practice of the Christian faith.
00:59I'm also offering this mass for you and your intentions.
01:02Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins,
01:05and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:10You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord, have mercy.
01:15You came to call sinners. Christ, have mercy.
01:17You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us.
01:23Lord, have mercy.
01:25May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
01:29and bring us to everlasting life.
01:32Let us pray.
01:35May the sight of the great number of your holy martyrs gladden us, O Lord,
01:40making our faith stronger,
01:43and bringing us consolation by the prayers of them all.
01:46Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
01:49who lives and reigns with you,
01:51in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
01:53God, forever and ever. Amen.
02:00A reading from the second book of Maccabees.
02:04There were seven brothers who were arrested with their mother.
02:08The king tried to force them to taste pig's flesh,
02:11which the law forbids,
02:13by torturing them with whips and scourges.
02:17The mother was especially admirable and worthy of honour.
02:23Sorry, of honourable remembrance.
02:26For she watched the death of seven sons in the course of a single day,
02:30and endured it resolutely because of her hopes in the Lord.
02:35Indeed, she encouraged each of them in the language of their ancestors.
02:39Filled with noble conviction,
02:42she reinforced her womanly argument with manly courage,
02:46saying to them,
02:48I do not know how you appeared in my womb.
02:51It was not I who endowed you with breath and life.
02:54I had not the shaping of your every part.
02:57It is the creator of the world,
03:00ordaining the process of man's breath,
03:02and presiding over the origin of all things,
03:04who in his mercy will most surely give you back both breath and life,
03:10saying that you now despise your own existence for the sake of his laws.
03:16Antiochus thought he was being ridiculed,
03:19suspecting insult in the tone of her voice,
03:21and as the youngest was still alive,
03:24he appealed to him not with mere words,
03:27but with promises on oath
03:28to make him both rich and happy
03:31if he would abandon the traditions of his ancestors.
03:35He would make him his friend and entrust him in public office.
03:39The young man took no notice at all,
03:42and so the king then appealed to the mother,
03:45urging her to advise the youth to save his life.
03:48After a great deal of urging on his part,
03:51she agreed to try persuasion on her son.
03:53Bending over him,
03:55she fooled the cruel tyrant with these words
03:58uttered in the language of the ancestors.
04:01My son, have pity on me.
04:04I carried you nine months in my womb
04:06and suckled you three years,
04:08fed you and reared you
04:10to the age you are now
04:11and cherished you.
04:13I implore you, my child,
04:15observe heaven and earth,
04:18consider all that is in them,
04:20and acknowledge that God made them out
04:23of what did not exist,
04:25and that mankind comes into being in the same way.
04:29Do not fear this executioner,
04:32but prove yourself worthy of your brothers
04:34and make death welcome,
04:37so that in the day of mercy
04:38I may receive you back in your brother's company.
04:42She had scarcely ended when the young man said,
04:45What are you all waiting for?
04:47I will not comply with the king's ordinance.
04:50I obey the ordinance of the law
04:52given to our ancestors through Moses.
04:55As for you, sir,
04:57who have contrived every kind of evil
04:59against the Hebrews,
05:01you will certainly not escape the hands of God.
05:04Lord, when your glory appears,
05:17my joy will be full.
05:20Lord, hear a cause that is just,
05:22pay heed to my cry.
05:24Turn your ear to my prayer,
05:26no deceit is on my lips.
05:28Lord, when your glory appears,
05:30my joy will be full.
05:33I kept my feet firmly in your paths.
05:36There was no faltering in my steps.
05:39I am here, and I call.
05:41You will hear me, O God.
05:43Turn your ear to me.
05:45Hear my words.
05:47Lord, when your glory appears,
05:49my joy will be full.
05:51Guard me as the apple of your eye.
05:54Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
05:57Ask for me in my justice,
05:59I shall see your face,
06:00and be filled when I awake
06:02with the sight of your glory.
06:05Lord, when your glory appears,
06:07my joy will be full.
06:13Alleluia, alleluia!
06:14I have chosen you from the world,
06:16says the Lord,
06:17to go and bear fruit that will last.
06:19Alleluia!
06:20The Lord be with you.
06:26A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
06:32While the people were listening,
06:34Jesus went on to tell a parable,
06:36because he was near Jerusalem,
06:39and they imagined that the kingdom of God
06:41was going to show itself then and there.
06:44Accordingly, he said,
06:46a man of noble birth
06:47went to a distant country
06:49to be appointed king
06:50and afterwards returned.
06:53He summoned ten of his servants
06:55and gave them ten pounds.
06:58Do business with these,
07:00he told them,
07:01until I get back.
07:04But his compatriots detested him
07:07and sent a delegation
07:08to follow him with this message,
07:10We do not want this man
07:12to be our king.
07:15Now on his return,
07:16having received his appointment as king,
07:19he sent for those servants
07:20to whom he had given the money
07:22to find out what profit each had made.
07:26The first came in and said,
07:27Sir, your one pound has brought in ten.
07:31Well done, my good servant,
07:33he replied.
07:34Since you have proved yourself faithful
07:37in a very small thing,
07:38you shall have the government
07:40of ten cities.
07:42Then came the second and said,
07:45Sir, your one pound has made five.
07:49To this one also he said,
07:51and you shall be in charge of five cities.
07:54Next came the other and said,
07:56Sir, here is your pound.
08:00I put it away safely in a piece of linen
08:03because I was afraid of you.
08:05For you are an exacting man.
08:09You pick up what you have not put down
08:11and reap what you have not sown.
08:14You wicked servant,
08:16he said,
08:16out of your own mouth I condemn you.
08:19So you knew I was an exacting man,
08:21picking up what I have not put down
08:23and reaping what I have not sown.
08:26Then why did you not put my money in the bank?
08:30On my return I could have drawn it out with interest.
08:35And he said to those standing by,
08:37Take the pound from him
08:38and give it to the man who has ten pounds.
08:41And I said to him,
08:43But sir,
08:44he has ten pounds.
08:48I tell you,
08:49to everyone who has will be given more,
08:53but from the man who has not,
08:55even what he has will be taken away.
08:58But as for my enemies who did not want me for their king,
09:03bring them here
09:04and execute them in my presence.
09:08When he had said this,
09:10he went on going up to Jerusalem.
09:15The Gospel of the Lord
09:17he goes on to Jerusalem.
09:18The Gospel of the Lord
09:35the God university
09:38is Since God's nascent.
09:40Yeah.
09:42Gregg.
09:43Let's go.
10:13Great brothers and sisters of my sacrifice,
10:43and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
10:47May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name,
10:52for our good and the good of all his holy church.
10:55Receive, we pray, O Lord, the offerings of your people in honor of the passion of your holy martyrs,
11:02and may the gifts that gave your holy martyrs courage under persecution
11:06make us all true, steadfast in all trials. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
11:13The Lord be with you, and with your spirit lift up your hearts.
11:17We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
11:21It is right and just.
11:23It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks.
11:31Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God.
11:34For you are glorified when your saints are praised.
11:38Their very sufferings are but wonders of your might.
11:42In your mercy you give ardor to their faith.
11:45To their endurance you can firm resolve.
11:47And in their struggle the victory is yours through Christ our Lord.
11:52Therefore, all creatures of heaven and earth, sing a new song in adoration.
11:57And we, with all the hosts of angels, cry out, and without end we acclaim.
12:03Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts,
12:07heaven and earth are full of your glory.
12:10Hosanna in the highest.
12:12Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
12:15Hosanna in the highest.
12:17You are indeed holy, O Lord, a fount of all holiness.
12:24Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the twofold,
12:30so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
12:36At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread.
12:41And giving thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying,
12:45Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
13:15In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice.
13:23And once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
13:27Take this, all of you, and drink from it.
13:29For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new, and eternal covenant,
13:36which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins.
13:41Do this in memory of me.
13:59The mystery of faith.
14:12Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
14:18Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
14:22we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
14:26giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
14:32Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
14:36we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
14:39Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world,
14:42and bring her to the fullness of charity,
14:44together with Leo, our Pope, and Charles, our Bishop, and all the clergy.
14:48Remember, your servant Francis, whom you have called from this world to yourself,
14:54grant that he who was united with your son in a death like his
14:57may also be one with him in his resurrection.
15:02Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
15:07and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
15:12Have mercy on us all, we pray,
15:15that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
15:17with Blessed Joseph, her spouse,
15:20with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
15:25we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life,
15:28and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
15:32Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
15:41in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
15:43all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
15:50At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
15:54Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
15:59Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
16:03Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
16:08as we forgive those who trespass against us.
16:11And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
16:16Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously.
16:20Grant peace in our days,
16:22that by the help of your mercy,
16:24we may be always free from sin
16:26and safe from all distress,
16:28as we await the blessed hope
16:29and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
16:32For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
16:35now and forever, Lord Jesus Christ,
16:38who said to your apostles,
16:39Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
16:42Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church.
16:45And graciously grant her peace and unity
16:48in accordance with your will,
16:49who live and reign forever and ever.
16:52Amen.
16:53The peace of the Lord be with you always.
16:57Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
16:59Peace be with you.
17:10Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
17:13Have mercy on us.
17:14Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
17:18Have mercy on us.

17:22Grant us peace.

18:25I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
