00:00The owner of this Ford Raptor uses it like every other Ford owned Raptor.
00:09He tears it up on the street, and like every other Raptor owner, he wishes this truck had
00:13the power of a V8.
00:14So we're gonna show you how to give your Ford 3.5 liter F-150 that V8 feel and then some.
00:23Welcome to Truck U. So today, we've got this F-150 Raptor out.
00:28What year is this?
00:29I think it's like a Gen 2.
00:31Okay.
00:32The first ones came with the V8, then this was kind of downgraded, so to speak, to the
00:36V6 with the twin turbos, and now you can get ones with a V8 in the third gen, but it's
00:41gonna cost you an arm and a leg to get that R on the backside of it for that extra horsepower.
00:45So basically, what we want to look at today with this one in the shop, we want to address
00:49that horsepower issue, and also this thing is loud.
00:53We want to almost make it like selectable obnoxiousness, right?
00:57I've got a solution for that.
00:59All right.
01:00So we will handle that too, and then the brakes too.
01:01I got a closed course right around the corner I marked off for us.
01:04Maybe we can have a little experiment with.
01:05Bruno's closed course that way.
01:06See, right there.
01:07All right.
01:08So we'll establish a little, like a little baseline, right?
01:10All right.
01:17All right.
01:18Pretty good.
01:19Yeah, I got a little, broke the tires loose a little bit there.
01:21Had a little tire chatter, and then got a little skate around on a wet course, but, you
01:24know, it gives us something to dial work with, you know what I mean?
01:26Yeah.
01:27That's pretty good.
01:28That's a pretty good start.
01:29It wasn't bad.
01:30I'm not gonna kid you.
01:31Get to work.
01:32You know, I'm not gonna lie to you, that was a fun ride out there, and it's already
01:37powerful enough.
01:38So to think that we're gonna add even more-
01:39It's never powerful enough.
01:40Let's just be honest.
01:41I don't know, dude.
01:42I mean, we were ripping it out there.
01:43So to think we're gonna add more, it's kind of cool.
01:45It's kind of cool.
01:46I like it.
01:47I mean, you know, basically with this truck as it sits, it's 450 horsepower, right?
01:50Everything is in place that's good, but we're just gonna make it better.
01:53We got an entire kit from Edelbrock, and that is basically gonna just bolt right in, nice
01:57and easy, and make all the changes.
01:59So essentially what we're doing is taking the turbos and making them better, right?
02:01The thing is, it's not just the turbos, it's the entire package, right?
02:05And that's where Edelbrock comes into play, because they give you all the parts and pieces
02:08you need to make it all work together, and that removes the guesswork for you.
02:15So like Bruno said a couple of minutes ago, we have to access through the fender, right?
02:30So you get it up on the lift, take off the wheel and tire, the inner fender wheel comes
02:33out, and then you can start going after the bolts and the clips.
02:36So up top, one little clip, and then there's kind of a series of bolts.
02:39There's three there, another one there.
02:40And then as you get real tight in here, way down there, there's one.
02:44That's the trickiest one to get to.
02:46But with a combination of extensions, you can get that out with no problem.
02:49So now we're at the point where everything's loosened up, we just have to do some finagling.
02:53That's my industry jargon.
02:55So start shaking it.
02:58Oh, man.
03:03All right.
03:07Boom.
03:08Just like that.
03:09Nothing to it.
03:10There you go.
03:12So after a little bit of finagling and one small cut in this finger, we got everything
03:19out of the truck.
03:20And this is what's going back in.
03:22It's a complete system from Edelbrock.
03:23And here's what I think is so cool about this, because Edelbrock's been around for almost
03:2790 years, right?
03:28It's a name everybody knows and everybody trusts.
03:31And now that name that we all trust is in the forced induction world.
03:34Yeah.
03:35And they're making a huge impact.
03:36They've got right here to upgrade this Raptor.
03:39And it all comes down to having all the pieces of the parts working together.
03:42So it is compliant, which is huge, as well as it makes more power and is efficient.
03:46And it's not going to damage the engine.
03:48So the heart of any turbo system is going to be the turbochargers, right?
03:51Well, you look at the new ones you've got right here.
03:53They're Garrett turbochargers in this kit.
03:55But just a simple thing, the compressor wheel, the opening here versus the opening here,
04:00it's a much bigger wheel, going to make a lot more boost and do so more efficiently.
04:04But now that you're making more boost, you've got to get it into the engine, right?
04:07And do it in a cool way in terms of the temperatures.
04:10Well, you've got an upgraded intercooler.
04:12So this is going to allow you to have cooler inlet temperatures, as well as less pressure
04:16drop, which means it's going to be more efficient.
04:18It's going to go through these charge tubes and it's got all the fittings and parts and pieces
04:22to bolt it all into place.
04:23And the key is having the right tune up to make it all work and that you simply plug
04:27it into the OBD2 port and you're going to have the right tune for this whole setup.
04:30Yeah.
04:31So this is a voltage amplifier for the fuel pump, which is controlled by that.
04:35Now you think about it, the whole idea to make more horsepower is cram more fuel down
04:38in there, right?
04:39But you've got to make it burn.
04:40So that is what's going to just basically kind of control that fuel pump because you're
04:43cramming all that air in there, you're cramming all that fuel in there.
04:45You want to keep the ratios the same for the performance.
04:48So we've got everything we need to make this all happen.
04:50It's just about about bolting it all in.
04:52So what we're looking at here is going to be about 150 horsepower gain, which is huge.
04:56But believe it or not, this is just like stage one.
04:58They offer like a stage three kit, which is even more so incredible than this.
05:02So it's just about, this is a base plane for us.
05:05I think 600 horsepower is plenty to begin with.
05:07And if you want to get a little nuts, you got, you can step it up a notch and they got
05:11something for you as well.
05:12Well, it's practical is what it is, you know?
05:15So if you want to, dude, since this is, this is kind of all you, right, I'll go to the
05:18other side and start getting that other one out of the way if you want to.
05:20I mean, I might need a hand at some point, right?
05:22Well, that's fine, dude.
05:22You're fine.
05:23I'm going to get a band-aid.
05:24Band-aid, yeah.
05:26Right.
05:27Okay.
05:28All right.
05:31All right.
05:36All right.
05:53So the intake stuff is back in place, I just need to kind of lock everything down.
06:10We need to go to break, and then when we come back, we'll be working on some breaks.
06:23Hey, welcome back to Truck U. We are continuing to work on our Raptor here today.
06:27We took a fast truck, and we made it even faster.
06:30Brand new turbo kit on this thing. It's going to take it from 450 horsepower to over 600.
06:35The thing is, when you've got a fast vehicle, you've got to get it stopped, right?
06:38And you've got to have the right product to do so.
06:40So we turned to the guys at B-Pro Auto for brakes.
06:43We've got to talk about pads, rotors, and calipers.
06:46You know, the whole thing is, is you want to use a quality product on a high-end vehicle like this.
06:50Now, you can take it down to your dealership, and they're going to charge you an arm and a leg, not only for the parts, but for the labor.
06:56I can handle the labor with Matt, but you've got to have the right part to work with.
06:59That's one of the nice things about B-Pro Auto is the fact that they're OE-backed.
07:03So all their products are held to the same standards in terms of testing and overall development.
07:08They're 100% matched for your vehicle to match that same quality product that you would get from your original equipment manufacturer.
07:14Now, the rotors themselves, 100% designed exactly like the OE's in terms of weight, fit, dimension, and their computer mill balance.
07:22So they're going to be perfect and get rid of any kind of additional vibration.
07:25Now, you pair them with the calipers right here that are, again, OE 100% spec'd out with that cool zinc coating.
07:33It's going to look good for a long time and avoid corrosion.
07:35Now, it's just a matter of getting the old caliper off and start putting the new stuff on.
07:39Do you know where your in-keeping filter is at?
07:58Most people don't, and the reason why is because they're told on a certain interval they're supposed to change it out,
08:03and they're like, ah, forget it, because they get the sticker shock when the dealership tells them what it costs to have it done.
08:08Well, if you get the right part, you're going to get the right filtration like you can from an OE-backed part like this in-cabin air filter from B-Pro Auto.
08:15But you can do it yourself and save a bunch of money and not have that sticker shock for an overpriced filter.
08:20Now, if you're looking for where it is, a lot of times it's under your glove compartment.
08:23All you have to do is check your manual.
08:25But the whole idea behind it is to give you a better air quality inside the cab of your truck.
08:29Now, if you're one of those people who has allergies, it's a huge thing because it filters out dust and pollen and other things that will aggravate your allergies.
08:37It also could hurt your overall ventilation system because a clogged filter doesn't let air properly circulate.
08:43Again, example, if your windshield is always fogging up, you probably need to go ahead and change out that filter.
08:48Alright, the last order of business underneath the hood is installing this new battery we got from B-Pro Auto.
09:17So, the nice thing about it, they offer a 24-month free replacement.
09:23I'll get this locked down and hooked up.
09:26And then we're going to do a little work underneath this truck to protect a few things that I want to make sure stay there.
09:31Since we've got the truck up in the air, it's a great time to take a look at a couple cool products that we got from Automotive Security Group because we want to address a problem that a lot of people are having nationwide.
09:46And that is theft because we know there's a lot of guys out there, thieves, and they're highly motivated.
09:50They don't want to go get a normal job.
09:51They want to steal your stuff.
09:52You know, the thing is, you've got a very expensive vehicle like this, right?
09:54So, it's got a bullseye in its back right away.
09:57People are going to target it and say, hey, man, it's a nice vehicle.
09:59I'm going to steal that kettle converter.
10:00That's going to be about $4,000.
10:02It's going to cost you if they do.
10:03And they get their spare tire out of this thing.
10:05That's about $2,000.
10:06That's money you're out, the time you're spent being down getting it fixed.
10:10And it is a major headache.
10:11Here's the biggest problem is, somebody gets your spare tire, you may not know it, until three months down the road, you're out with the family coming home from the movies, boom, you pop a tire and you go to change it and you're like, oh, where did it go, right?
10:22So, we want to keep that from happening.
10:24And one of the ways we do that is with this.
10:26This is the spare shield.
10:27So, basically how it works, for the visual purposes, let's say this is your spare wheel in the back and this is the ground, right?
10:33This little thing right here, you would lower your tire down and kind of suspend that.
10:37And then you want to access the cable.
10:38And this is a two-part little system that we'll show you, and that goes over the cable and then, whoop, you tighten it back up.
10:43So, now there's no going in there and cutting this cable.
10:46And, essentially, you can't get in there if you're wanting to steal the tire.
10:49Right.
10:49Now, that's good for about 95% of the SUVs and trucks out there.
10:53If you're one of the guys who has a spare tire in the back, like a Jeep, right, they've got options for you as well.
10:58This bolts right up to the back of the door, the wheel goes over it, and now it gets locked on, a lock that you can't drill through or knock off, and it's going to protect that wheel and tire.
11:06The Jeeps, Broncos, Defenders, and some of them have backup cameras, and some of them don't.
11:10They've got options for either one.
11:12So, now let's talk about protecting that catalytic converter.
11:14And the way that we're going to do that is with a two-piece system.
11:17You've got this fire-retardant material right here, and that's going to work along with this cable.
11:21And it's a very simple idea of just wrapping it up.
11:23You know, the thing is, catalytic converters, I mean, these guys go in, and they're going to do a volume in a night, right?
11:28It's a numbers game for them.
11:29They'll go underneath your vehicle with a battery-powered Sawzall or grinder.
11:33They'll knock them off in literally like 15 seconds.
11:35That's how fast they can get through them.
11:36With something like this, they're going to crawl underneath it, see this device on here, and say,
11:40you know what, this is too much of a headache.
11:41I'm moving on to the next one.
11:43It's too much time, too much effort, too much risk for them to get caught by sitting underneath your vehicle trying to get this device off.
11:48It's a cost-effective way to keep you from getting your stuff stolen and keep your family safe.
11:59I've got the first cable on and in place, and it already looks more secure.
12:15If you think about it, I've got three more cables in there to wrap around this thing.
12:18It's going to look like a spider web by the time I'm done with it.
12:21Nobody's going to want to mess with this.
12:24So the spare shield is now installed, and this spare tire is now safe and secure.
12:29Now, the toolkit you're looking at right here, this, just so you know, comes from your OEM manufacturer as part of your spare tire kit.
12:35In this case, it's Ford.
12:36One of the things that Ford does, though, which is really nice, they supply this plug lock for access here to the crankshaft portal,
12:42which is all part of that spare tire kit.
12:44Now, if your vehicle doesn't come with one, make sure you check out the guys at Automotive Security Group because they've got options for that as well.
12:50All right, we're going to take a break.
12:51When we come back, we've got more work to do on this truck.
12:53It's all about the exhaust.
12:59I really like this truck, this 1997 Chevrolet work truck.
13:09It is just basic.
13:11You know what I mean?
13:11It's got manual locks, manual windows.
13:14The front sits a little bit low, and they put some nicer wheels and tires on it, and that's about it.
13:18Now, some people might look at this with a microscope and go, oh, there's some scratches and dings around there.
13:23Look, I don't even want to bother with them.
13:26That's what we're going to handle today, though.
13:27This is nice and easy.
13:28Let's take a look at this.
13:29The issue, anybody that's got a vehicle with a couple years on it, you can relate to this.
13:33The issue on the side of this door, right, there's a whole bunch of these little dings, and there's a couple other ones that correspond up here.
13:40So we would just want to make it a little bit more special and get rid of some of these, and there's an easy way to do that, and we're going to do that with the Duplicolor Scratch Fix All-in-One.
13:48It's probably the easiest way to fix these little issues.
13:52So before we get started, the most important thing we need to do is find a paint code.
13:56Now, on a lot of vehicles, the paint code's right here on the door.
14:00Of course, this one had to be a little bit different, and we chased it down.
14:03It's on the inside of that glove box on the bottom.
14:05There's a sticker.
14:06That paint code was 8624.
14:08So we take that paint code, and we go to Duplicolor's website, and we kind of cross-reference that, or we go into our local automotive retailer, and they will most likely have catalogs there, and we can look for it there, or you talk to the person working behind the counter.
14:22So we got the surface good and clean with the foaming prep spray, and now we're ready to use the Scratch Fix All-in-One.
14:26But let's talk about why that's called the Scratch Fix All-in-One, because this literally has everything we need to fix minor chips, scratches, and nicks, all with one little unit.
14:36So right here, you've got your fiberglass abrasive tip, and that is designed to go in there and remove any debris or rust and get that area nice and clean.
14:44This is your pen applicator for really fine, like a scratch that's aligned like this right here.
14:51That would be perfect.
14:52So I'm almost guaranteeing we're going to use that right there.
14:55Below that, we've got our brush right there for bigger nicks or scratches.
14:59And then once we're done and those all dry, we can hit it up with the clear coat, which is right down here once it dries.
15:06And so once it does, you can apply the clear coat, which is what we just did a couple of minutes ago.
15:10And if you stand back a couple feet, this door looks totally different than it did not too long ago, and that is great.
15:16If you've got a bigger project, like you've got to paint a fender or a whole door or something like that, that is where the perfect match comes in.
15:23Same principle, get your paint code to make sure you get the OEM matching paint, and you'll be fine with that.
15:27But another thing I want to leave you with, keep in mind, DupliColor just opened up 1,500 additional colors in the ScratchFix All-in-One,
15:36and you can special order those at your local automotive retailer.
15:39So for more information about that special order program or any DupliColor products, be sure to check out their website.
15:54Welcome back to Truck U.
15:55One thing that we, along with everybody in the surrounding buildings, noticed when this truck arrived is that it's loud, right?
16:02And we thought that was pretty cool, but of course that was during the daytime.
16:04So what we thought we would do is install this system from Valvetronic, and it is going to make everybody happy.
16:10Yeah, you know, it gives you the best of both worlds because you can be loud and proud when you want to be and also quiet when you have to be, unfortunately.
16:17You know, and the way it does it is it has a valve here that when you hit a button, it allows you to bypass the muffler or utilize the muffler.
16:24The cool thing, too, is it's new valving inside the Valtronics mufflers, and where it uses the same outlet no matter if you're bypassing or not.
16:31This way, you're not going to get an annoying drone either way, and exhaust gases are going to exit the vehicle and not end up inside the cab.
16:37I will say this.
16:38As the father of a son who got conservatively probably a half a dozen or so tickets for loud exhaust, this would have been a great thing to have a couple of years ago in his truck.
16:47All right, watch this.
16:48This is pretty cool.
16:48This is cool.
16:49And the cool thing is with the touch of a button from the remote control, you can go ahead and power this thing up through that little box, and via vacuum, it opens up the bypass, and there you're bypassing the muffler.
17:02And as you get that nice, loud sound, and you hit the button again, it closes it off.
17:07I like it.
17:08Cool.
17:08All right.
17:08Old mufflers out of the way.
17:10Let's go ahead and start getting these in.
17:13Now we can take a look at how the Valtronics system is going to fit up in here, right?
17:16Because we got two coming in, two going out.
17:19Right.
17:19Right.
17:20We have to try to stack them just right so they all fit.
17:22Yeah, we do.
17:23Plus, that's a two and a half, and that is a three.
17:26So, basically, you've got a couple different configurations with these that you can get, a couple different opening size options, and layout options, too.
17:32Like, this is the single all the way through.
17:33Like, boom, one in, one out.
17:35But we got other options as well.
17:36Yeah, you know, you can go.
17:37There's, you know, one in, two out, two in, one out.
17:39I mean, there's all different kind of, you know, ways you can go, and also different sizes, too.
17:43So, what we're going to have to do is use an adapter going from the two and a half inch to the three, and then we're already three out.
17:48Yeah, so, basically, where was that?
17:50Oh, this is, I had it right there.
17:52Right.
17:52So, that's going to go there.
17:54Right.
17:54That's going to go there.
17:56And then I'll just need one more pipe to do right next to it.
17:59All right.
18:00Hold that real quick.
18:00I'm going to come over and weld it.
18:01You got that?
18:02You good?
18:02I got it.
18:02Yeah, take your time.
18:03Go get it all set up.
18:04All right.
18:04Let me get this set up.
18:05We'll be here in about 20 minutes.
18:18Hot Shot Secret Diesel Winter Rescue is an alcohol-free, powerful emergency solution designed for vehicles that are going to be operating in freezing conditions.
18:29It's going to do a couple different things.
18:30First of all, it's going to thaw out any gelled diesel fuel that you might have, and it's going to thaw out any water or ice that's in your fuel lines or in your filter.
18:39That way, your fuel system will get flowing again and keep your vehicle on the road.
18:42If your fuel is gelled in the tank, simply pour Diesel Winter Rescue right into it.
18:48For gelled fuel filters, remove the filter and add a 50-50 mix of Diesel Winter Rescue and diesel fuel.
18:53Wait a few minutes, then start your engine.
18:56You can avoid expensive tows and downtime by keeping a bottle in your vehicle all winter long.
19:01You can prevent cold weather issues before they start by using Hot Shot Secret's EDT Plus Winter Defense as your everyday winter fuel treatment.
19:09You can get everything you need right here to wash and detail your vehicle and do it the right way with Suburbia Suds Mega Suds Bundle.
19:18The Mega Suds Bundle comes with everything you need to get started, including the shampoo, wheel cleaner, detailer, all the necessary brushes and towels, the bucket, and their amazing suck-up drying towel.
19:28Now, the Suburbia Suds Suck-Up Drying Towel is a luxury, edgeless, double-sided, twist-piled drying towel, and this thing can absorb over seven times its own weight in water, which is really cool, and it also means that it can easily dry a whole vehicle or even more.
19:44The best part is you save a ton of money by bundling with the Mega Suds Bundle, and all orders over $100 get free shipping.
19:58Wow, man, that's a huge difference.
20:04It is.
20:05It's so much quieter with that new Valtronics exhaust on this thing.
20:07We can actually have a conversation.
20:09Right.
20:09Like, gentlemen.
20:10It's nice.
20:10But then when we want to be a little unruly, we can go do that, too.
20:14We can do that, too.
20:15Yep.
20:15Just a simple adjustment.
20:16All right.
20:17So I dig that.
20:18Flip of a switch, and we can get loud and proud, and I like it.
20:21Now it's time to kind of get the payoff.
20:22You know, we put the work in.
20:23I can tell you right now, the sound is a whole lot quieter, but you know what?
20:28I think we can also get a little rumble going, too, which is nice.
20:31We have the best of both worlds now.
20:32That is cool.
20:33I do like that, and I'm going to do a brake check here.
20:37No, hold on.
20:37Yeah.
20:38I'm not getting too crazy, because it looks like it sprinkled a little bit earlier, so.
20:42Oh.
20:44Nice.
20:44How was the feel of the pedal?
20:46The pedal feels great.
20:47Yeah.
20:47Yeah.
20:48But other than that, I think the dude's going to be happy with this.
20:51He should, man.
20:51Everything he wanted, we delivered, as always.
20:54So now he's got the power of the V8.
20:57It's a good size.
20:58But with better gas mileage.
20:59All right.
21:00You ready?
21:02Close course racing.
21:05Oh, yeah.
21:05Oh, yeah, baby.
21:06Okay.
21:07Dude, we cut our time almost in half.
21:09All right.
21:10Maybe I was at you a little bit, but it definitely got there a little bit quicker.
21:12Don't you think?
21:13Yeah.
21:14Yeah.
21:14I can tell.
21:15I mean, it's hard because we are spinning the wheels, and you've got to do your own track
21:18control to hold this thing, but that's a good problem to have.
21:20It is a good problem to have.
21:21It's fun.
21:23Like, my legs tighten up a little bit.
21:28A very productive day.
21:29We've got a truck that was fast.
21:31We made it even faster just because.
21:33If nothing else, it's a lot of fun.
21:34It really is.
21:35Cool.
21:36All right.
21:36You ready to head back to the shop?
21:37All right, man.
21:37That's all the time we've got today for Truck U.
21:39We'll see you guys next time.
21:40See ya.
21:41We'll see you.
21:53We'll see you next time.
